Mac power PC G5 Version 10.4.1 and Wi-Fi device pairing

I am trying to use a Wi-Fi device for internet access with this Mac (long story as to why) and can't install because it says I can't run it on this version of Mac (10.4.1). Is this true? Does this Mac have capability to pair with such a device?

What is 'fine wireless support'?
My ISP has merged with another company and to access my internet plan (MBB), they sent a new SIM and Internet Key Modem to access the new network etc... The system requirements for that product were 10.5 or higher (I did stipulate my version 10.4.1 but was sent it anyway; my previous Internet Key Modem became obsolete after the merger). When that didn't work (as I knew it probably wouldn't), they sent me a 'Pocket Wi-Fi Pro' device and the support worker said it should work. However I'm pretty sure 10.5 is minimum system requirements: the advice in the instruction manual/user guide only says that I need a device with Wi-Fi capability. Further, under a heading "Advanced Configuration using a cable", it reads 'To perform advanced configuration of the device browse to an online dashboard (gives an address) from a Mac OS X running 10.5 (Intel), 10.6 or 10.7 (all with latest updates).
I am not sure if I can update from Tiger 10.4 with this Mac? If not I may simply, but expensively, have to get a new Mac? I don't want to purchase Leopard(?) 10.5 if it can't work on this Mac.
Thanks.

Get more information about your computer. Go to the Apple in the upper left corner of any window, then  "About This Mac".  Write down what it says about "version"and report that here.  Now continue to "More Info..."  Copy and paste the information here, but omit the serial number and Hardware UUID (if present).
If you have a PPC Mac you cannot sync your idevice without a newer computer.  See the end of this post for options.
If it says you have an Intel Mac you can upgrade to Snow Leopard, but check system requirements first:
    Snow Leopard 10.6 Technical Requirements - http://support.apple.com/kb/SP575
You can buy Snow Leopard at:
Snow Leopard disc source - http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573Z/A/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard
After installing run the updater to 10.6.8, then upgrade iTunes.

Options if you cannot upgrade:  iTunes Store purchases can already be downloaded directly. Use iTunes Match to put non-Store music in iCloud, then download to your device from there.  Backup your device directly to  iCloud over a wireless connection.  Photos can be downloaded from the Camera Roll using iPhoto or Image Capture.

  • My mac OS X is version 10.5.8 and I have ilife '11 and if I try to open it "iLife '11 is not compatible with your version of mac OS X" "it requires 10.6.3 or Later" What should I do?

My mac OS X is version 10.5.8 and I have bought  iLife '11 and if I try to open/install it says "iLife '11 is not compatible with your version of mac OS X" and
    "it requires 10.6.3 or Later"
    What should I do?

Buy a Snow Leopard 10.6 retail disk and upgrade? $29.
Or call iTunes, tell them what happened, and ask if it would be at all possible for them to issue you a refund & reverse the sale.

    Hi Johnfromglenver,
There are no Mac drivers for the HP Officejet K60 printer. Therefore it is not compatible with the Mac operating systems. Please call our technical support at 800-474-6836. If you live outside the US/Canada Region please click the link below to get the support number for your region. http://www.hp.com/cgi-bin/hpsupport/index.pl. There may be other solutions that could work for you.

  • HT1338 Am I obsolete?? My Mac OS X is version 10.5.8, and it says it is up to date.

My MacBook OS X is version 10.5.8, and it says it is up to date. How can I upgrade to a more current release? The only thing I can find out there in Mountain Lion and it looks like I can't get there from here!

The way to obtain OS X 10.6 is to call your country Apple online store, which in the US is 800-MY-APPLE. Note, in the US at least, your local Apple store will not carry 10.6.
OS X 10.6 has these requirements, which you should review.

Click here, install the DVD, run Software Update, open the Mac App Store, and try purchasing Mountain Lion. If you get told it's incompatible, phone the online Apple Store and order a download code for Lion.

  • Is a Mac Power PC (not Intel) on OSX 10.5.8 compatible with FF4?

I have a Mac Power PC G5 (i.e. pre Intel) and I am using OSX 10.5.8. My current Firefox is 3.6.24 and they tell I should upgrade, I guess to FF 4, but tech. spec. recommends Mac Intel. Is a Power PC compatible with FF4? Thanks

No, Firefox 3.6.x. is the last version of Firefox from Mozilla for PPC Mac's.
    For older Macs that aren't supported in Firefox 4+ versions, try TenFourFox for PowerPC's running Mac 10.4.11 & 10.5.8 . <br />

  • Adobe flash player 11.7 exists for mac power PC?

I have a Mac Power PC with leopard 10.5.5 and I need Adobe Flash Player 11.7.

Not really possible, but there may be a workaround:
You can check here:  http://www.adobe.com/products/flash/about/  to see which version you should install for your Mac and OS. Note that version 10,1,102,64 is the last version available to PPC Mac users*. The latest version,10.3.183.23 or later, is for Intel Macs only running Tiger or Leopard, as Adobe no longer support the PPC platform. Version 11.4.402.265 is for Snow Leopard onwards.
    * Unhelpfully, if you want the last version for PPC Macs, you need to go here:  http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/142/tn_14266.html  and scroll down to 'Archived Versions/Older Archives'. Flash Player 10.1.102.64 is the one you download. More information here:  http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/838/cpsid_83808.html
You should first uninstall any previous version of Flash Player, using the uninstaller from here (make sure you use the correct one!):
    http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/909/cpsid_90906.html
and also that you follow the instructions closely, such as closing ALL applications first before installing. You must also carry out a permission repair after installing anything from Adobe.
(If you are running a PPC Mac with Flash Player 10.1.102.64 and are having problems with watching videos on FaceBook or other sites, try the following solution which fools the site into thinking that you are running the version 11.5.502.55:)
Download this http://scriptogr.am/nordkril/post/adobe-flash-11.5-for-powerpc to your desktop, unzip it, and replace the current Flash Player plug-in which is in your main/Library/Internet Plug-Ins folder, (not the user Library). Save the old one just in case this one doesn't work.

  • Backup iTunes playlists on Mac Power PC G4, OS 10.4.11to Lacie Starck external hard drive

I have a Mac Power PC G4, OS 10.4.11, and have recently bought my first external hard drive, a LaCie Starck.
I have my iTunes seperated into convenient playlists: is it just a matter of creating a script for each individual playlist in Intego Backup Assistant (I don't have Intego Backup Manager Pro); and If so, is it best to click on 'click to choose source' or 'drag a volume, a folder or a file' in the Backup Assistant window ? Or is there a better, or easier, way of doing it ?

*Firefox 4 versions and later do not run on a PowerPC Mac.
*Firefox 4 and later require at least OS X 10.5 and an Intel Mac.
    * http://www.mozilla.com/firefox/5.0/system-requirements/
For an unofficial Firefox 4 compatible version (TenFourFox) that runs on PowerPC Macs with OS X 10.4.11 or OS X 10.5.8 you can look at:

Firefox 3.6.x (Mac OS X 10.4 and later) can be found here:

Firefox 4 requires at least OS X 10.5 and an Intel Mac. There is a third party version of Firefox 4 that runs on OS X 10.4/10.5 and PPC Macs, for details see http://www.floodgap.com/software/tenfourfox

Be sure to Uninstall Flash Player you have now first before Installing the 10.1 vs.

You already have the software installed that you need if you have 10.8.2.
If AirPort Utility cannot find the Express, that is another matter. More software is not needed. More troublehooting is needed.
Power up the Express for a full minute
Hold in the reset button on the Express for 7-8 seconds and release
Allow a full minute for the Express to restart
Click the AirPort icon at the top of the Mac's screen
Look for a heading of New AirPort Base Station
Just below that, click on AirPort Express
    What happens?

Firstly, what is the source of the 10.6.4 disc? Is it the original installation disc for your MacBook, or one 'borrowed' from another computer?
It isn't the retail version, because that's 10.6.3.
Assuming it's the correct disc (i.e. the one that shipped with your Mac), you need to boot from it again.
    OK the language page.
From the installer screen, ignore the continue button, go to the menu bar and choose Disk Utility from the Utilities menu.
In DU, select your internal drive in the sidebar (the top item with the makers name and serial no.).
Run Repair Disk. If that comes up as disk OK, click the partition tab. Select the partiton from the drop-down above the graphic; 1 partiton is all you need.
Go to the options button and ensure that the partition scheme is GUID and the file system to Mac OS Extended (Journalled). Name the partiton (usually Macintosh HD), click Apply.
When the Macintosh HD volume appears below the drive name, quit DU and see if you can then install.
If the screen after the language screen doesn't show the menu bar, it may be necessary to use another Mac to do the job with the MB in Firewire Target Disc Mode. If it won't boot in TDM, or the MB doesn't have FireWire then it's getting very difficult.
