Mac pro 10.9.2 wifi snafu

Macpro 4.1 Updated to 10.9.2 now no wifi, clicking on the antennae icon just gets me spinning pizzas of pain.
have tried some fixes mentioned here such as deleting bluetooth prefs.. oddly i could not see a prefs file for BT
anyway. thanks a bunch apple

I found the Embed (in the object's Properties pane) command and set the value as "Numerals" shortly after my post. That worked. Thank you for the confirmation. I am a novice in day 2 of trying to learn Flash, did not find a reference to embedding the text in any of the on-line forums.

  • How can I set up my Mac Pro so that my wife and I can use our separate iTunes accounts? I keep getting an error message that the computer is already associated with an Apple ID even though the two accounts are associated with separate log ins!

I'm getting very confused with setting up multiple user accounts on my Mac Pro for my wife and I. We each have a separate iTunes account, and we want to keep our music libraries seaprate. I've set up two user accounts on the Mac Pro and I have my iTunes authorised and logged into my user account on my user account. Under my wifes user account (i.e. a separate log in on the computer) I'm trying to set up her iTunes account, but I can't download or play anything from the cloud - it just says "This computer is already associated with another iTunes Account" and tells me that if I 'transfer' then I won't be able to use the other one for 90 days! This is really annoying as my wife can't access music she has purchased on her iTunes account on the home machine. We're not trying to do anything dodgy, just access our music on our own accounts on separate log ins on the same machine. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks!

Hi Allan, thanks for that. I've already set up a log in for my wife and that is all working fine. The problem is that when she logs in and opens iTunes and trys to associate her library with her iTunes account she gets the error message "This computer is already associated with another iTunes account". Whilst this is true, the computer is associated with my iTunes account under my separate log in, which should have nothing to do with hers. If she transfers the association to her account it will lock me out of my content on my log in for 90 days - I'm trying to work out how to associate each of the log in accounts with a separate iTunes account so we can access our music independently of one another without locking each other out. Hope that makes sense!

  • I have an older model Mac Pro that isn't WIFI: how do I update it?

I have an older model of Mac Pro — the MacPro 1,1 — that isn’t wifi capable.a wifi network.
How do I update it to a connect it wirelessly to my router?
Would a PCIe card work?   If so, what would be the best sort?Should I, instead, get the relevant Airport base station?
    Any help would be appreciated

Since the early Intel-based Mac Pro tower was available in a heavily customized version
with many extras as a BTO, and also lesser optioned models, the parts may be harder
to come by now after this passage of time, than when the MacPro1.1 first arrived.
Wi-Fi:    Optional AirPort Extreme card (802.11a/b/g/n)
Bluetooth:    Optional Bluetooth 2.0 + EDR
Modem:    Optional Apple USB Modem (MA034Z/A)
    Fibre Channel:  Optional (MA462G/A, MA465G/A)
Internal RAID:   Optional Mac Pro RAID Card with 256 MB cache & 72-hour cache battery backup
An internal Wi-Fi or BT component likely had an external antenna such as the last model
PowerMac G5 with a similar all-metal aluminum case, as that does resist radio waves...
The answer for issues with last model PPC G5 aluminum, was an external antenna.
Not sure what model or part numbers were involved in any of the BTO or dealer installed options.
So if you use an expansion card idea, note the metal case of the early MacPro may block it.
You could use an Apple Express, and use it via Ethernet cable, to extend a network to MacPro.
PS: The two linked PCI card adapters are not familiar to me, nor are the complexities of this
series of early MacPro; other than they do have similar issues with wireless due to metal case.
    Good luck & happy computing!

Some info at the above link on various wifi upgrades. If you are having USB issues, maybe the Asus PCIe card would be worth considering. Otherwise, I'd suggest one of their USB adapters (I have two).

  • Mac Pro 2013 internet (ethernet/wifi) lag on load

    Hi,
Anyone has a lag with the new Mac Pro 2013 using Safari to surf the web, on WIFI and/or ethernet, when loading a page?
Meaning the blue bar on the link that loads after you hit enter.
The page lags to load for 2-5 sec before loading all at once.
I consulted Apple support, we tried all of this:
    - plug directly in modem
    - test on other devices the internet
    - tried on Firefox
    - loaded in safe mode
    - loaded in recovery mode local
    - loaded in recovery mode web
    - reseted the following folders:
    A) System library folder
    Input method
    Internet plugins
    Scripting addition
    Preferences/system configuration
    B) User library folder
    Preferences, com.apple.safari.plist
    C) System preferences
    System pref menu, startup item
    Still not fixed.
    Anyone has that issue?

    Hi,
    Thank you for the reply.
I do not see a difference with this, it lags regardless:
"When trying to access a website via its DNS name, such as www.apple.com, there may be a delay that ranges from several seconds up to several minutes before the page loads at normal speed, depending on the operating system version and configuration. However, if you access the website's numerical IP address, such as http://17.149.160.49, the page loads immediately."
Still directly plugged in modem, I see the DNS by default under NETWORK/ETHERNET/ADVANCED are the ones from the ISP.
I typed the 3 DNS manually, saved, rebooted. Still doing it.
Same problem with Google IPv4 and IPv6 public DNS.
I might remind you I do not have this issue on my iMac beside it which is under Snow Leopard.
All other devices are fast. Even download on the Mac Pro is fast.
Booting under Safe Mode, Recovery Mode (local and web) did not help. That means with a clean instance of Safari from a completely different partition.

  • Mac Pro cannot connect to WiFi... connection timeout error

I have an early 2008 Mac Pro desktop running 10.7.2.  I have it connected to the Internet via copper, but it is also part of my internal wireless network.  I am consistently getting "could not join [network].  A connection timeout occurred.  This is a recent issue, and I've made no system changes that I can remember that would have caused this.
My wireless network is an airport extreme and several airport expresses.  I have several devices connected to it, including iPads, iPhones, an iMac, etc.  All of the others are performing well.
I have rebooted my system.  I have rebooted the network.  I have gone into the genius bar and given them remote control of my system as it is running at home.  No luck.  The genius bar recommended trying booting from the install CD (I did burn one).  I did that, and I also booted from an older (3 months or so) Super Duper bootable backup.  It should be noted that the Super Duper drive was from a previous install of Snow Leopard.  When I changed to Lion I did so with a clean install on a SSD.  All of the boot options (SSD, CD, Super Duper Snow Leopard) give the same problem - timeout error.
I will say that the Super Duper boot and the CD boot find my two wireless networks immediately (1 is primary, the 2nd is guest).  When booting into SSD, I notice that they system seem to struggle to find both networks quickly and consistently.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.  The Genius Bar seems stumped, and a Google search on "could not join a connection timeout occurred" seems to indicate that this is happening to a bunch of folks.  Thanks in advance.

Try "Assist Me" which is located in System Preferences > Network.

  • How can Mac Pro (late 2013) create a WiFi network for Mac Books to connect to internet?

I am moving my Mac-Pro (late 2013) to a garden office.  I have an ethernet cable to connect it to the house network.  I also have a Mac Book Air which will only connect to a network by WiFi.  I can use this Mac-Pro to create a WiFi network and the MacBook can talk to the Mac Pro over this WiFi network.  But the Mac Book does not see the local network let alone the Internet, both of which are seen on the Mac Pro.
Is there a way that I can connect the created WiFi network to one of the two Ethernet cards in the Mac Pro?
    Or what?
    Tim

    I have half cracked it.
For some reason the first step it to turn internet sharing off.
Then internet sharing can be configured and the wireless network set up and given a password.
Then, and then only, turn internet sharing back on and turn WiFi ON.  All this is on the Mac-Pro (late 2013).
Now the Mac Air sees the new network and can log on and connect to the WAN internet locations, at least via Safari.
BUT if I use Finder on the Air, it will connect to the Mac Pro but it will not display what is on its disc. Though I can do screen sharing.  Odd.
Also Air-Drop has stopped working, so there is no means of transferring files between the Pro and the Air.
I am going away now for a few days and will revisit this on my return.
    Thanks for your help.

For video either the ATI HD 5770 or the ATI HD 5870 from Apple will work fine in your Mac Pro however you will not be able to take full advantage of the 5870 so it may be a waste. I use the 5770 with great results.
For Bluetooth I use the Belkin mini bluetooth adapter and it works great is is very small.
If you want the actual Apple Internal bluetooth card.
For the WiFi I use the original Apple WiFi cards but even a USB one thats Mac compatible will work fine.

  • Limited In Establishing an A/V  Connection Using New 2008 Mac Pro 8-Core

I will apologize in advance for the long and complicated story that follows.
I purchased this 8-core Mac Pro two weeks ago. I installed all software fresh on the Mac Pro and transferred no data from an iMac I had previously been using. The Mac Pro was running fine and I was able to have a video iChat with one of my friends across town who has a mid-2007 iMac with no difficulty. I had initially set up my Mac Pro with file sharing turned on so that I could exchange files with my wife who took possession of my mid-2007 iMac. A few days went by and my wife decided to turn off file sharing on my Mac Pro. Suddenly my Mac Pro would not boot at all, showing the spinning black pinwheel and the silver screen with the Apple logo for more than 30 minutes. I tried to repair permissions on the Mac HD, but I got a red error message that the permissions could not be repaired. Interestingly enough Verify Disk ran and report no problems with the Mac HD.
At this point I did a full erase of the Mac HD, and did a complete restore from Time Machine. After a few minor changes like having to reimport my e-mail, my Mac Pro seemed to be working fine again. However, today I received a iChat video invitation from my friend across town, and when I responded, I soon got a "failure to establish communication" message. I then tried to establish a video chat with my friend. After watching the spinning black wheel in the iChat dialog (which had good video), I soon got the same message. He also got this message on his end. We were able to establish Text Message communication through iChat, but we could not establish either video or audio. My friend's Mac was working fine in iChat because he had just been iChatting using video with one of his friends. The problem thus was firmly on my end.
At this point, I tried to video iChat from my Mac Pro with my wife in the next room on her iMac. It worked perfectly and we had both good audio and video. However, every time I attempted to iChat with my friend across town with, I always soon received the message that the connection could not be made bacause my friend had not responded, which of course, he had.
I deleted all of my user preferences related to iChat (four if I recall correctly) but this did not help.
In summary, I have limited use of video iChatting from my Mac Pro only with my wife next door on her iMac. Incidentally, I went over to her iMac, logged on, and instantly had a video iChat going with my friend across town.
I have just spent 3 hours on the phone with Apple Suport and went through several layers of tech support. In the end, their only recommendation was to do a complete erase and reinstallation of the OS. I am not willing, at least at this time, to do this since I have every one of Apple's Pro software applications (FCS2, Aperture, Logic PRo 8 Studio, etc.) installed on this machine and it takes a long time to reinstall all that software.
I would be extremely grateful for any suggestions that anyone may have.
    Tom

I finally solved this problem by doing three things. I do not know which of the three really solved the problem, but one of them did. Since this is a new Mac Pro the weekly and monthly maintenance routines had not been run. I ran them using a widget called Maintidigit. Second, I reinstalled iChat directly from the Leopard install disk. Third, I rebooted my cable modem (Road Runner) and then I rebooted my Buffalo Router and while power was off to the Buffalo Router, I unplugged and then plugged in all cables to it. I then plugged in the power cable. Video iChatting with my friend across town worked perfectly with no error messages after these three changes.

  • How do I connect a Maverick imac and a snow leopard mac pro file sharing

I am trying to connect an imac running Maverick,  and an older mac pro 1,1 running snow leopard.  The mac pro does not have airport.  I have tried connecting using my wireless router:  mac pro ethernet conencted and wifi with imac, but I either cannot connect or it takes forever.  I need a more reliable solution.  I bought an airport card for the mac pro. I hurt my foot, and am laid up, and have to access the massive files on the mac pro and external drives with the imac.  They are about 75 feet apart.  The imac uses the wirteless router just fine, which is next to the mac pro.  Which is the better solution,  buying a long enough eitehrnet cable, and direct connect, or install the airport card and connect using airport?  One more concern, I noticed my neighbor has  a mac, and his mac keeps showing up on the network as a lockede but selectable mac.  I am concerned about my security.  Which is best, and what is the sequence to set it up?  I can see that a step by step process with proper sequence and settings is critical to get tis to work.  Thanks for any help.

How are you currently trying to connect? The easiest method for setting up across operating systems would be to connect using AFP, the standard protocol Macs use to share files over a network (though, SMB2 is now the default method in Mavericks). Are you attempting to simply transfer data from one machine to the other, or set up a local network between these machines? If it is the former, the easiest method may be to use an external HDD to copy data from one machine and then transfer it to the other.
    See below for AFP:
Mac Basics: File Sharing - Support - Apple
    And a youtube video:
Mac 10.6 OS X Tutorial - File Sharing -AFP FTP and SMBS - Video ...
One more concern, I noticed my neighbor has  a mac, and his mac keeps showing up on the network as a lockede but selectable mac.
This is normal. You would need to explicitly grant your neighbor access to your machine for him to access anything on the machine, just as you need to do the same with your own computer you are attempting to connect.

  • 8 core Mac Pro vs DVD Studio Pro 3

Bought a used copy of DVD Studio Pro 3 and installed it on my 8 core Mac Pro (Leopard). Downloaded and installed all available updates, but the program "unexpectedly" quits every time I try to use it. I use the same version at work on a G5 and love it. I don't want or need the entire Final Cut Studio, but 3 just won't run on my Mac Pro. Any theories as to why? My wife thinks that the software is just too old (2004) to run on a nice shiny Mac Pro.

Per usual, your wife is correct!

WiFi signals get stronger the closer the machine is to the router and the less interference/blocking of the signal like via walls with metal in them or of thick concrete.
Since the signal emanates outwards in a sphere, your supposed to place the wireless router in a central location in the building so it covers all areas.
The power of the router also has a affect, if your router is old or something not that powerful like a Airport Express, it doesn't have the ability to filter out other signals or enough punch to get through walls etc. or cover a large area as effectively.
If you buy/have a powerful router of newer make and have issues where there is metal in the walls or thick concrete, then you can buy something like OpenMesh and by using Ethernet cables from the back of the router, extend the WiFi signal into other rooms and areas past the blockage.
