Mac Pro 2008 8 core 2.8 GHz versus Mac Pro 2009 8 core 2.26 GHz

I'm trying to decide if its worth selling my current MP 2008 with 8 core 2.8GHz 16Gig machine to get
a Mac Pro 2009 with 8 core 2.26 GHz 8 Gig systems. I have a chance to buy a 2009 MP that has 2 years left
on AppleCare but would still need another 8 gigs of RAM. My 2008 MP does what I want as a developer (I don't use it for
graphics) but warranty expires in 7 months. Based on reviews, discussions, etc. They both are about the same in speed but
I like that the 2009 is newer and with more warranty however my 2008 is a real workhorse, has NEVER let me down and
the thought of going to another system and reinstalling everything does not motivate me. As for price, I might get the same
money for my 2008 MP as it would cost me to get the 2009 MP. So the question is, is the 2009 a "better system" to get
or is the 2008 MP more stable? I hear that Hyper-Threading on the Nahelam's are not all that they are craked up to be so if I had
to switch OFF HT then I would actually loose speed on the 2009 even if it uses DD3 RAM a better bus etc..
Your thoughts?
Thanks.

I'll venture that your problem here is that you're using two very different versions of Mac OS X.  The USB adapter has been useful to me when making big downloads or while using other networks, but it might not be your case.
Here's what I would advise, though it may be less than stellar:  Copy the files you need into folders and move them through a USB flash drive or using that external hard drive of yours. (Could the format be the reason your MBA can't see it?). Some stuff like calendars and contacts can be exported too. At least in Lion, I haven't used Tiger in a while.
    Good luck.

  • MacBook Pro i5 2.4 Ghz versus MacBook Pro Core 2 Duo 3.06 Ghz???

Re: MacBook Pro i5 2.4 Ghz vs. MacBook Pro Core 2 Duo 3.06 Ghz
    Hello,
I am new to CS5 / Photoshop (& Apple!) and am looking forward to diving in. However I am about to purchase either a used MacBook Pro Core 2 Duo 3.06 Ghz or the MacBook Pro i5 2.4 Ghz. Can anyone provide me with information as performance differences I may see between the 2 processors using CS5 for photo/video editing? I appreciate any insight!
The MacBook Pro Core 2 Duo 3.06 Ghz has been upgraded to 8GB of RAM, has the no glare screen, and a 750GB Hardrive. The new i5 I would buy is the lower end model. Less RAM and smaller HD, however they are obviously upgradeable in the future. It also would not have the no glare screen.
My biggest question is around performance of the the CPUs on Photoshop, etc ...??? That being said, there is a $300 difference and is the new machine worth it in performance???
    Appreciate your help!

If you're going to do serious Photoshopping, then more ram is better. But, without knowing the price differences, I'll be honest, go for the i5 version, it'll work better for you. It'll cost you about $120 to upgrade the RAM to 8GB (go to any reputable online dealer or Amazon). It'll cost you about $110 to upgrade to 1TB internal HDD. Both upgrade are user friendly and do not harm the warranty of the new MBP.
So, for $230 in upgrades, you'll have similar specs as the used one, but a much faster performing processor. Unless the Core 2 Duo is MUCH cheaper, I'd buy new, then immediately upgrade. I have the i7 processor, I did the upgrades, and whenever I turn on the Core 2 Duo, it feels like I'm using an abacus. OK, not that bad, but the difference on video encoding and photoshop/Aperture is huge.

  • Macbook Pro 2008 15 2.5 8600 vs Macbook Pro 2.4 320m

I am wondering what the performance differences will be between a 2008 MBP 15 and 2010 MBP 13. The older one has a dedicated 8600 video card and the MBP has a video chip that shares memory. Any and all information appreciated. I use the machine for normal home use, Photoshop Elements, Second Life
    Thanks

    Hi Big I,
    Here's some good information - http://www.notebookcheck.net
    Review for the 320M - http://www.notebookcheck.net/NVIDIA-GeForce-320M.28701.0.html
    Review for the 8600M GT - http://www.notebookcheck.net/NVIDIA-GeForce-8600M-GT.3986.0.html
They appear to be pretty close and I'd say for what you use the machine, both are perfectly capable of handling those three tasks.

Please describe the problem in as much relevant detail as possible. The "etrecheck" fad hasn't made that step any less necessary. The usual results of posting etrecheck output on this site without a full description of the problem are very poor.
The many "failed" warnings that etrecheck sometimes spews mean nothing. Those warnings are not a reason to reinstall the OS, or to do anything else at all. They should be ignored.
The better your description of the problem, the better the chance of a solution.
For example, if the computer is slow, which specific actions are slow? Is it slow all the time, or only sometimes? What changes did you make, if any, just before it became slow? Have you seen any alerts or error messages? Have you done anything to try to fix it? Most importantly, do you have a current backup of all data? If the answer to the last question is "no," back up now. Ask if you need guidance. Do nothing else until you have a backup.

  • Apple Mac Pro 2008 dual 2.8ghz quad core

    Hey guys,
Ive got a real brain teaser. I have a apple mac pro 2008 dual 2.8ghz quad core that wont boot.
The leds on the memory test good its all tested in another mac and working well.
The 9 leds are reading as follows 2nd led lit yellow. Led 9,8,7 Green- which from my research is good.
Ive also reset the cmos battery and vram, nothing.
Pulled the memory and video card and re-seated them also nothing.
The last thing i tryed was shut the computer down sit for 30 seconds then held alt and got the install mac os screen not a hard drive option.
Which leads me to think its not seeing the hard drive?
    Any suggestions?

    Starts up with fans
    Makes the apple chime
The chime is generated in software when the first portion of the power-on self test has passed.Your Mac is working and has enough working RAM memory to start up.
You still may have problems with drives, the software on those drives, or your graphics card.
    apple logo comes up
The dark gray Apple is loaded by the ROM boot loader in the first blob of software (before the file system is initialized). Its presence indicates your Mac can get some stuff off a Hard Drive, and seeing it indicates your graphic card can display something in a primitive way.
with spinning gear and just sits there for hours
It is stuck booting up something. Verbose Mode (hold Command-V at startup) will show you the parade of messages. The last five will tell you what happened.

  • Mac Pro 2008 - upgrade to 2010 model or not?

I have a Mac Pro 2008 2.8 gHz with 12GB RAM. I'm not running Premiere Pro CS5 which is great and seems to love RAM and processor speed. I also recently got a CUDA card to take advantage of it's GPU acceleration.
My question is: Should I get a new Mac Pro 2010, 6, 8, 12 core or just upgrade my RAM to say, 24GB and perhaps get some SSDs (maybe even in a RAID 0) as my boot drive.
The RAM upgrade will be in the $650 range, SSDs could be at least that. I'll need RAM anyway for a new model as my old RAM isn't compatible.
Getting a new model could set me back $5000 (or more) when it's all loaded.
I'm also a little disappointed in the 2010 Mac Pros, for example my 2008 Mac pro was a no-brainer, but now I'm ambivalent about this upgrade to 2010, thinking there may be new models out this year that fill in all the holes. I kind of feel like the 2010 Mac Pro upgrade was a little like the Final Cut Pro 7 upgrade, it was a stop gap because Apple needed to do something. I could be wrong about this though.
I know this is kind of a difficult question to answer, but if you have any opinions, please feel free to lend any advice.

    Mid-range Xeon roadmap:
Socket LGA1356, a direct replacement for the current Socket LGA1366. The parts here are 6-core and 8-core Sandy Bridge single-socket and dual-socket capable but mid-range positioned Sandy Bridge Xeon - and, ultimately, Core i7 - parts with up to 20MB of L3 cache, three DDR3-1600 memory channels just like the existing LGA1366 Westmeres with one memory speed grade higher, and 24 PCIe v3 lanes on-chip.
The single external QPI v2 link runs at up to 8 gigatransfers/sec, or 32GB/sec bidirectional bandwidth, a 25 per cent speed up over the current generation, but also feeding a third more cores on each socket.

Intel is set to replace its current high-end socket, LGA1366, when it releases its new 8-cores processors in the Late 2011. This socket is expected to be released alongside Sandy Bridge-EX in Q3 2011, and will support 4 memory channels as well as 40× PCIe 3.0 lanes.

  • Mac Pro 2008 or iMac 27 i7 ? Which to choose?

I am looking to upgrade to a faster Mac from my current Macbook Pro and decided either on an iMac 27 inch i7 2.8 GHz 8 Gigs RAM 4870 Video card or buy a used Mac Pro 2008 with 2 x 2.8GHz 4 Core (8 core total) with 10 Gigs RAM and an 8800GT video card.
Both come to almost the same price. Problem is I don't know which to get. The system will be used mainly for software development, running windows 7 and linux as Virtual Machine, some light gaming, and music (sampling, etc)
I love the iMac's LED screen and the i7 certainly is fast but love the Mac Pro's expandability in terms of hard drives and memory and I would use it on my 30 inch LCD. That said, would I ever go past the Mac Pro's configuration of 2 TB's of drives (maybe) and more than 10 Gigs RAM (don't know)? You're stuck with the iMac in terms of hard drives forced to add slow external cases.
The Mac Pro is over 2 years old at this point but I know the Mac Pro is a work horse and the iMac has had issues.
Anyone have an opinion on this? Might it be worth saving some more cash (although would take another 6 months) and getting a 2009 Mac Pro?
    Let me know...

Asked a lot and the new iMac makes it look better, but not for triple boot unless you stict to VMs most of the time. The freedom of having alternate OSs on their own drives and such.
AppleInsider gave the high end iMac makes sense if you go that route, and if you would need a monitor as well?
Barefeats has posted a number of tests of the iMacs
    http://www.barefeats.com
Even the 2009 $2149 4-core is no slouch and easier to find and work with.
At that price, you are close to the 2010. So wait another 36 hrs.

You can write to Apple with the serial number and they can tell you exactly when your MacPro (as opposed to Mac Book Pro) was manufactured.
And in the Apple menu > about this Mac >  more info > there should be sufficient detail to narrow it down.

  • Mac Pro 2008 always crash after sleep and after first start

    Hello, new in the forum,
2 years ago, I replaced the main disk of a Mac Pro 2008 for a SSD Samsung 470 256 Go.
Until then, it always crashed 1 or 5 minutes after sleep mode (which I didn't used much), and not always 10 to 15 minutes after the first start of the day.
No matter if I was working on it or not… Suitcase installed or not (no font problem here). Rest of the day was fine (if no sleep !).
The difference of speed was so big and "good" that I dealed with it. I though that the Mac Pro was a little old for the SSD technology, and that Apple would fix it, with chance…
    2 weeks ago, I installed Maverick :
I got crashs during the work flow too. I needed to re-start 3 times at least… Re-start without extension was ok (or not), re-start, crash, re-start without extension, restart ok. I used Onyx, did PRAM too. And sometimes, I needed to re-install Maverick or even to do a clean-install !
So I suspected the Samsung 470 for all (sleep and work crashs) and replaced it for a Samsung 840 Pro 512 Go.
And the Mac Pro returned to Mountain Lion.
Not really better : no crash one day (yeeeees!) and crash after the first start the next day (nooooo!). Every time I tested sleep mode, it crashed.
    My system :
    Mac Pro 3.1 - 2,8 GHz - Quad
Mountain Lion, 10 Go ram DDR2, ATI Radeon HD 2600 XT, 30' cinema display.
Adobe CS5 alone (minimal install) with Onyx to repair after each crash.
Could it be the video card, the mother board, the age of the boy ?
    Thanks a lot !
    Christophe S

    Edit !
I said that Finder and apps were blocked after 10 seconds (without extension).
But it was to clic on Launchpad that blocked all, and 5 minutes later it works again.
I did clic again on Launchpad, it blocked and 2 minutes later it appeared full screen but with rainbow circle, and quit.
    - Restarted with extensions. Kernel panic!
    - Restarted the mac and the grey screen with Apple blocked, without any mouse this time. 15 minutes later, still blocked.
    - Forced restart without extension. Here are the reports of Kernel Panic and EtreCheck:

  • What Wifi Cards Do Mac Pro 2008 model use???

Hello all, just got my first mac pro ,I usually deal with PC's so this is new for me I wanted to ask which type of cards would I need to get my mac pro blue tooth and wifi compatible and I want to know which is the best graphics card available for this machine , please let me know thanks!!!
    Essentials
    Family: Mac Pro
    Codename: ?

    Max Resolution: all resolutions supported
    Video Out: DVI (dual link)
    Networking
    Modem: optional external 56 kbps
    Ethernet: 2x 10/100/1000Base-T
Airport Extreme: optional  <<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<which one i search and keep getting the G5 one, can I use that one on this?
    Bluetooth: optional 2.0+EDR

For video either the ATI HD 5770 or the ATI HD 5870 from Apple will work fine in your Mac Pro however you will not be able to take full advantage of the 5870 so it may be a waste. I use the 5770 with great results.
For Bluetooth I use the Belkin mini bluetooth adapter and it works great is is very small.
If you want the actual Apple Internal bluetooth card.
For the WiFi I use the original Apple WiFi cards but even a USB one thats Mac compatible will work fine.

  • Mac Pro 2008 with 8800 GT, hard freezes with screen savers/OpenGL. You too?

I have been experiencing random intermittent hard crashes of my "early 2008" model 8-core Mac Pro. Now I have finally found an easy reproducible test case (see below), and hope others will try it and post the results. This is a video-driver related crash that I have now duplicated with two different video cards.
The symptom is that my screen randomly freezes. The mouse moves, but there's no way to use the Mac[1]. Holding the Power button to force the Mac to shutdown is the only way out.
Usually, this occurs when I get to my office in the morning, or after the gym. That's because the screen saver is running. I found that the screensaver, other OpenGL/3D type applications, are what triggers this bug.
The bug seems to be with the graphics driver. Immediately before the freeze, messages like this are printed in the system log:
    Mar 26 18:34:14 Mac-Pro kernel[0]: NVChannel(GL): Graphics channel exception!
    status = 0xffff info32 = 0xd = GR: SW Notify Error
    Mar 26 18:34:14 Mac-Pro kernel[0]: 0000000c
    Mar 26 18:34:14 Mac-Pro kernel[0]: 00200000 0000502d 00000470 00000000
    Mar 26 18:34:14 Mac-Pro kernel[0]: 00000482 000002ac 00000003 00000003
    Mar 26 18:34:14 Mac-Pro kernel[0]: 00000000 00000000 01be0003
    Mar 26 18:34:14 Mac-Pro kernel[0]: NVChannel(GL): Graphics channel exception!
    status = 0xffff info32 = 0x3 = Fifo: Unknown Method Error
    Mar 26 18:34:14 Mac-Pro kernel[0]: 0000000b
    Mar 26 18:34:14 Mac-Pro kernel[0]: NVChannel(GL): Graphics channel exception!
    status = 0xffff info32 = 0x3 = Fifo: Unknown Method Error
Other errors like these also appear (the actual log output volume is too large for this forum):
    Mar 26 21:15:15 Mac-Pro kernel[0]: NVChannel(GL): Graphics channel exception! status = 0xffff info32 = 0x6 = Fifo: Parse Error
    Mar 26 18:34:14 Mac-Pro kernel[0]: NVChannel(GL): Graphics channel exception! status = 0xffff info32 = 0xd = GR: SW Notify Error
Anyway, finally I found on another thread about a similar issue[2], a recommendation to run Folding@Home program to trigger the freeze. They were talking about another Mac model, but sure enough, it triggers my problem every time. I downloaded the client[3], installed it, and then launched the app which gets put in the Applications folder. It doesn't even finish bouncing once in the dock before the Mac Pro freezes.
This is not a bug specific to Folding@Home; juding from the log messages and the effect, this is exactly the same crash that is intermittently triggered by the default Mac OS X screensavers (I use Arabesque, but I think any OpenGL screen saver does it). It's just that running Folding@Home is an easier way to trigger the bug than leaving your screensaver running for hours.
So, that is pretty unfortunate, right? I mean, not only can my new Mac Pro not sleep without losing all unsaved data (yes, I have the reboot-instead-of-wake problem[4], too, but that is another issue...) but it also crashes at random whenever the screen saver runs for a while, or somebody uses OpenGL programs. I have set my machine to never use the screen saver, but still.
So, first and foremost, my question for other 2008 Mac Pro owners with the 8800 video card is: does your Mac puke all over itself when you launch Folding@Home?
I just found it a little bit hard to believe that every Mac owner of the most expensive new Mac and the higher end video card will have these crashes. It could be, but it seemed far-fetched. So I tried some troubleshooting:
    a
1.) I considered that I had a bad video card, so I got another GeForce 8800 GT and installed that. Still crashed.
2.) I disconnected my second monitor, and tried it with only one monitor. Still crashed.
3.) I booted from the pristine boot disk my Mac shipped with (10.5.1). Still crashed.
4.) I reduced the resolution on my 30" Cinema display to 800x600. Still crashed.
5.) Just to stave off the usual chorus of "try zapping your PRAM" posts, I zapped the PRAM. Of course, this did nothing (I don't think this has really fixed a problem since the 1990s...). Anyway, it still crashed.
6.) In doing all these tests, I disconnected all USB/FireWire peripherals.
7.) My Mac is totally up-to-date with Software Update as of Thu, Mar 27, 2008. Mac OS X 10.5.2.
I don't want to return this Mac to Apple; it is wicked fast and that really helps me with my work. But, the frequent crashing really is a productivity-killer.
So: does every 2008 Mac Pro owner with an 8800 GT have this problem?
(Note: there are lots of similar problems with other Macs and the new Mac OS X 10.5... I hope to specifically address this particular model and crash in this thread.)
If not, I will go to the next extreme step: pulling out some of my RAM. I have 12GB of RAM, and it all seems to work fine, no parity errors or anything. But I know sometimes problems don't happen unless there's "too much" RAM, "too high" resolution, and so on. But I would like to hear from others before I go banging on my precious DIMMs and riser cards.
    Thanks for any information!
The next step will be to determine if this is just another unfortunate defect that affects ALL 2088 Mac Pros (in which case I would want to keep my fast Mac and wait for fixed drivers), or if perhaps just a subset of them have defective video cards that cause the driver to crash in this way (in which case I would want a replacement).
    ---------- NOTES: ----------
[1]: I can connect via SSH on the command line to the Mac. However, the GUI environment seems borked; opening apps or trying to gracefully quit them via AppleScript either does not work or really hard freezes everything, such that SSH no longer works either.
[2]: A similar (but perhaps different) issue affecting notebooks is discussed here, and there are some people with Mac Pros, too: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=6786960
[3]: The Folding @ Home client, which can be used to trigger this bug, can be gotten here: http://folding.stanford.edu/English/Download
[4]: The severe defect affecting many (most?) 2008 Mac Pro machines' ability to sleep without losing data is discussed in this other thread: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1353551

Hello guys, thank you for the replies.
I do have more data at this point.
ujeezy: Those posts on MacNN and others like them did give some clues.
Jon BWFC: I think you are (partly) right that it's (partly) an issue with the driver. But I have confirmed with a fair degree of certainty in my case that it is a hardware issue too, likely with the video card and not the Mac Pro itself.
cmcom: I think it sounds like you problem is different than the one we're talking about (although who knows, the driver could be causing that too). The freeze we are seeing locks up the whole Mac, and no application crash report is produced.
I had another GeForce 8800 card, so I went through some exhaustive troubleshooting. I tested each card, installed in each of the 16x slots, booting from either my normal 10.5.2 boot disk or a clone of the pristine virgin system disk that shipped with the Mac, and tried to see if the Mac would crash.
Unfortunately this was harder than it seems, because:
a.) both my GeForce 8800 cards appear to be defective, but in different ways (see [1] and [2] below)
b.) In my testing, I thought I was seeing the crash sometimes, but later I discovered that there are different ways to make the Mac crash like this. That is, there are bugs in Mac OS X 10.5.x (probably in the NVIDIA driver) that cause similar crashes, and these bugs occur on all Mac Pro units and even other Mac models, without any hardware defects. Unfortunately, the Folding@home exercises one such bug.[3]
So the upshot is, all those times I was using Folding@home to test this issue were bogus, because Folding@home crashes any Mac Pro with the NVIDIA card, and crashes MacBook Pro machines with NVIDIA chips as well.
Argh! So I had to retest. It took a couple of days but I found another reliable way to crash my Mac Pro, more quickly than just leaving the screensaver on for a day or two: run this OpenGL virtual fish tank simulator[4] for 2-3 minutes. Unlike the Folding@home test, this did not crash any of my other Macs, and after exhaustive testing I found that it ONLY crashed the Mac Pro with one of the GeForce 880 cards installed, and not the other one. This was regardless of what slot it was installed in or what boot disk was used.
Whew! So, I concluded that indeed, there is a hardware defect in one of my GeForce 8800 cards which causes the machine to lock up. [2]
What made this problem much harder to deal with was the fact that Mac OS X (specifically the graphics driver parts of the OS, perhaps NVIDIA-specific) crashes with these same symptoms in other cases too. Like when you run Folding@home, or in some of these cases people are talking about with their MacBook Pro machines.
So, when there is a bona-fide hardware defect, it is really hard to isolate. (It took me like four days.)
The thing is, the defective NVIDIA card that crashes the Mac[2] was a REPLACEMENT card for the 8800 card that shipped with my Mac. I called Apple about the video artifacts I was seeing and they replaced the card.
I am now running the original card (and suffering the ugly video artifacts, but no crashes). At my own expense, I ordered an ATI card (the RADEON HD 2600 XT) and I will install that.
I hope someday to have my Mac work without graphics glitches or crashes. For now, operating (mostly) without crashes will have to do.
The original problem with this Mac continues, though: the video doesn't work correctly; it starts displaying visual artifacts after 1-72 hours of use[1]. That could either be because:
a.) a hardware defect in that video card
    b.) a software problem with the driver/OS
c.) a hardware defect in the Mac itself
I strongly suspect A, but hopefully my buying a different card and testing with that will help further isolate what is wrong.
I am marking this thread "solved" because the specific issue I originally posted about has been resolved: the GeForce 8800 card causing the crashes is defective, and using another card fixes that issue.
[1]: The original GeForce 8800 card that shipped with my Mac Pro exhibited annoying-but-not-deadly video artifacts, which can be seen here: http://masonmark.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/04/bogusvideoartifacts.jpg
[2]: Apple replaced the video card, and that is when my deadly video-corruption-plus-frozen-Mac crash problem began. A screenshot example of that problem can be seen here: http://masonmark.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/04/crashedmac_pro_akashitball.jpg
[3]: The red herring in this case was the Mac OS X bug (seemingly specific to NVIDIA-equipped Macs including Mac Pro and MacBook Pro) that causes a very similar full system crash. This bug can easily be triggered by running the Folding@home version "6.10beta2" demo application. That is a serious bug, and since my employer is a Mac software company I reported this bug to Apple via the official channel. It is Apple bug number 5830772.
[4]: The OpenGL fish tank simulator I found, which would trigger the system crash caused by my defective 8800 video card (but would not crash any other Mac, or crash my Mac Pro with the other 8800 video card installed) can be found at: http://uri.cat/software/Fish/

  • OpenGL being disabled. (MacBook Pro 2008, Mac OS 10.9)

I opened a file I had been working on yesterday on a different Mac, and got the error message: "3D functionality is currently disabled due to OpenGL being disabled." I am currently using MacBook Pro (2008), running Mac OS 10.9, using PhotoShop CC. I've already looked at Ps Preferences>Performance and I see this. (see attachment)
How can this be solved? Thank you.

This is not a new post, but I can't find how to start a new thread.  I'm hopeful that someone will see it and suggest a remedy for my OpenGL not being fully functional.
I'm using a Mac Pro, 16GB dual processor machine in OS X (10.7.5) with a Radeon (Mac Edition) 32 mb AGP Vesrion graphics card.  I suspect that I may be experiencing the same problem as  Anna (above).

I searched a lot but did not get any results . I have upgraded my xcode to xcode 5.0.2  which is bug free as compare to xcode 5. Please help I m struggling with this problem a lot.

Was it installed before? Does it show up in Software Update?
Do other updates show up there (realizing that Lion is not getting all the updates anymore as it is no longer being supported).

  • Speeding up LR on a Mac Pro 2008

    Hi,
I have a Mac Pro 2008 with only 4 cores and simple graphics card.
The rendering of previews has become pretty slow (could be due to the large size of the catalog).
Also I noticed that even displaying a preview that had already been created before takes very long time. This could be because the preview cache is full.
I already moved the catalog onto the fastest SSD on the market without great improvement.
Now I wonder if I could speed up lightroom by attaching powerful graphics card with eg. 192 cores.
Has anybody experience with this? Will it boost LR's performance or not?
    Thanks.
    Marc

    Hi,
a better graphic card does not improve speed. Just cpu and 8gm ram work.
LR renders the displayed image on the screen if you are in develop mode. So, more resolution decreases lr speed :-(
