Mac Pro 5,1 10600 or 10600E RAM?

Hello!
I have my Mac Pro.(Mid 2010 2.8GHz Quad Core)
Is there a difference between RAM 10600 or 10600E?
Does this?
http://www.ebay.com/itm/12GB-3X4GB-DDR3-PC3-10600-1333MHZ-128X8-240PIN-ECC-HYNIX -CHIP-W13RX12GH-/170861066599?pt=US_Memory_RAM_&hash=item27c81cf967#ht_4711wt_92 2
Thank you very much for your help. In Turkey!

The biggest official Kingston part is KTA-MP1333/8g which is a single 8GB module.
For 16GB modules the main criteria are that
It must be registered memory - not buffered, this is more because there aren't any 16GB buffered DIMMS
You cannot mix registered and buffered so any other existing memory left fitted must also be registered, as it happens you are supposed to not mix 16GB with smaller sizes anyway
It should be 1333Mhz DDR3 although in theory 1066Mhz DDR3 would work, again I don't believe there are any 16GB 1066Mhz DIMMS
It should be ECC (error correcting)
CL9
The presence of a Thermal Sensor is apparently not compulsory, i.e. memory without it will work in a Mac Pro.
I have not used any 16GB DIMMS myself but other than OWC as per the link provided by Illaass, the following might be suitable
KVR13R9D4K4/64i - this is a kit of 4 x 16GB and this article has a post from someone who says they worked for them http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=1493588
If you can find a kit of 2 x 16GB of the same type then logically they should also work, they would probably be KVR13R9D4K2/32i. As a reminder to do 64GB or more you need dual processors. The single processor model Mac Pro 2010 is limited to 48GB.

  • New Mac Pro - some questions about setup and RAM

After debating between iMac and Mac Pro, I decided on a refurb SINGLE 2.8 quad-core Mac Pro.
Somewhere in these discussions (can't find it now) I thought I saw recommendations to zero out the hard drive and re-install the system when it arrives. Is this necessary?
Also, I plan to use the single processor savings to buy RAM. When I go to the Crucial site, they have a choice of RAM for 4-core or 8-core. Mine is only 4-core, but would I choose the 8-core option to get the correct RAM for 2008 models?
In general, when it comes to buying and installing RAM, should I follow the 8-core directions? Will having a single processor change anything to do with upgrades or expansion?
Thanks. Hope I didn't ask too much in one post.

No, that really isn't necessary. If you were prepping a new bare drive that had never been used or you were installing OS X on a drive that had once been used for Windows, then zeroing the drive is quite appropriate.
All the Mac Pros use the same type of RAM. The Late 2008 models use the faster PC2-6400 800 MHz RAM, but the other specs are the same - ECC, Fully buffered, heat sink. The RAM and installation is the same regardless of cores.
RAM should be installed minimally in matched pairs, optimally in matched quads. The following illustrations show how it should be installed:

  • HELP - Mac Pro Running Very Slow (After Additional RAM Installed)

I have recently upgraded my Mac Pro (2007) and increased the original memory up to 10 GB 667 MHz DDR2-F8-DIMM.
I also added an optical disk drive as the original would not play some of the newer DVDs/DVRs. Believe me, I'm not much of a do-it-your-selfer, but was encouraged by How-To DVDs on the net on how to install memory and the optical drive.
I am using Mac OS 10.5.8 and the original processor is 2 x 3 GHz Dual-Core Intel Xeon.
Just when I thought all was well, over the last few weeks my MAC has been getting slower and slower. Now, whenever I re-start or shut down, the Mac can take upwards of 5 minutes to come up. It hangs on the blue screen for what seems to be an eternity. Now whenever I use Safari or Firefox, the rainbow wheel spins and spins and this did not happen much before my "upgrade".
If someone would be kind enough to walk me through or educate me on how/why this is happening, I would be very grateful!
    Sincerely,
    Don

Did you try with just the new RAM? what was it, and you added.... 4 x2GB?
    Riser A: 2-2-512-512
    Riser B: 2-2-512-512
The ideal balance is symmetrical sets of four.
Clone your system and run Disk Warrior, reformat your fastest drive for system, and restore with SuperDuper. Or try starting over with clean install, would be useful as an emergency and backup, especially as it seems possibly overdue for some maintenance.
Make sure you have 30-40% free on disk drive, and add more if you haven't to separate scratch and data from system.
Run AHT and something like Memtest or Rember. Memtest you can run 40 concurrently each in its own Terminal window makes it go fast for even 5 cycles.

  • Which MAC Pro graphics card and how much RAM for FCE HD usage?

I plan on purchasing a MAC Pro afer MacWorld Expo next month. Any recommendations for a specific graphics card that would complement my usage of Final Cut Express HD 3.5?
Also, should I increase my RAM? I currently use 2 gb of RAM on my G4. Will I see greater productivity if I bump it up to 4gb of RAM on the MAC Pro or will 2gb suffice which I had planned to increase it to from the standard 1gb supplied?
    PowerMAC G4 dual 1.42ghz Mac OS X (10.4.7) 2gb RAM, 3-LaCie FW800 external drives
    PowerMAC G4 dual 1.42ghz   Mac OS X (10.4.7)   2gb RAM, 3-LaCie FW800 external drives

Any of the graphics cards that Apple sells for the Mac Pro will be fine. Personally, I'd suggest choosing one with at least 128MB video RAM, 256MB would be better.
2GB RAM in your Mac Pro will be more than enough for general purpose video editing. Going to 4GB will give you more oomph for RealTime effects and somewhat for rendering but you won't see a big difference in regard to capturing or general editing in the timeline.

  • Mid 2010 Mac Pro boot camp recognizing 1.86GB RAM

I have a mid 2010 Mac Pro w/ 6GB RAM and a dedicated video card. Win7 32-bit is boot camped on it. I know 32-bit Windows can only use 3.75GB of RAM. However, this Mac Pro is only seeing 1.86GB.
Since this is Win7, no boot.ini is available for /3GB switch and editbcd /set increaseuserva 3072 did nothing, even after clearing out the variable and resetting it to 3072.
I came across a post saying UEFI/BIOS for Mac Pros cannot see more than 1.86GB RAM in a Windows 32-bit environment. Is this true? It was only the one post and I forgot where I saw it.  If not,  how do I resolve this issue? If not, that's fine. I can format and install Win7 64-bit if needed. I want to confirm 64-bit Win7 will recognize more than 1.86GB of RAM. Any input?
    Thank you.

64 bit Windows will see and use all your ram.

  • Mac Pro 8 Core (2008) Hard Drive & Ram questions

    Hi there,
I recently purchased a Mac Pro 8 Core 2008 Model with 2Gb ram and 320Gb Hard Drive (Got a great deal on it... paid $1,500.00 for it!!). I bought this computer exclusively for audio production work. I know I can upgrade up to 32GB of ram if I wanted to however, I have heard that the system won't recognize 32GB ram when running 32bit OS & Applications. I use Ableton Live 8.2 (32bit capable) and Logic Studio 9 (32bit & 64bit capable).. what is the highest amount of ram I should upgrade to without overkilling it? In other words... what is the highest amount of ram I can upgrade to that I will actually notice the difference and that the system will actually use @ 32bit?
Second question is regarding hard drives... I need at least 320GB for OS and core applications and at least 1 TB for storage... what is the most efficient, fastest and least expensive to upgrade the storage on this machine?
I really appreciate your comments on this one.

Someone with Mac Pro, but on OS X 10.6 Install forum, like some, has full suites of CS5, FCP and others, and had run out of space literally on 150GB boot drive.
Apps like iDVD tech note recommended the boot drive have 24GB of free space (unfragmented for best burn performance) to burn dual layer.
X-Plane can go anywhere but uses almost 60GB for full world support.
My rule of thumb is 50% free on boot drive to avoid fragmenting free space such that it causes problems and there is always good performance overall as well as for read/writes.
To say someone doesn't need xyz when maybe they rre right, and to argue with their own math?
OS X does not support TRIM or I'd see if you can go with 120GB SSD. One way to slim down boot drive of course, maybe you have, maybe not,
Move all the data and media files possible off the boot drive can save 100GB and improve I/O at the same time.
Move the entire home account folder (the above leaves a smaller 1GB home library only on boot drive) which really isn't totally necessary but nice for some.
WD Black Caviar 2TB $170 is fast and nice or $89 for 1TB (if you think you need A, then get 2 x as much storage).
2008s don't use 8GB DIMMs and 32GB is as far as they go.
ATI 5770/5870 or even Quadro 4000 graphics
did it come with a 4870? or 8800GT?

  • 2009 Mac Pro Won't Boot after adding RAM (Crash-Keeps rebooting)

So I recently added new RAM that I purchased from OWC into my Mac Pro 4,1. It kept rebooting over and over and it gives me this error screen when it does. It doesn't get past the boot screen. I've since removed the RAM and replaced it with my old sticks (I discovered that the new sticks were the wrong speed 1333MHz vs 1066MHz). Still nothing.
This is incredibly urgent. Does anyone have any insight?

The hexadecimal stuff all over the screen is NOT a RAM panic. It is complaining about a USB problem and a caldigit driver.
The box near the center of the screen is saying you have the modules installed in the wrong slots.
Take it slow and simple. Install one module in the lowest-numbered slot on each side and work your way up on the RAM modules. You want to end up with the biggest modules in the lowest-numberd slots.
Remove all your USB devices for now to avoid that kernel panic.

  • Upgrading? 3 year-old Mac Pro 3.1 with 8 GB RAM

I have a 3-year old Mac Pro (model 3.1) with 8 GB RAM and 2 Quad Core Intel Xeon processors. The RAM consists of 8 x 1 GB 800 MHz DDR2 FB-DIMM
    Two questions:
    1) I need tp upgrade my RAM to 16 GB or more to run a new software (memory intensive application). I'm wondering if it's worthwhile to upgrade this system for ~$500 or just buy a new system with newer components. Also, whether the system can effectively use 16 GB of memory
    2) Recently my Mac Pro has been very slow and jittery e.g. when I switch between applications.  I've already tried things like cleaning up the hard drive / repairing disk permissions with little improvement. The only other thing I can think of doing is wiping the system clean and reinstalling everything. I'm wondering if anyone has had a similar experience, and if there is asomething to do to prevent this from happening in the future.
    Thanks!
    -H

you can max out at 32GB
An SSD can make a difference also
Hang in for what/when/if the MacPro6,1
    Memory bandwidth OWC
I would add 4 x 4GB to get to 20GB and see how that goes.
Upgrade the hard drive: SSD or 10K WD VR 600GB or something.
Off load your home media data and such to another drive, and go for a lean-mean OS/Apps only boot drive.

  • HELP !! I have a Mac Pro Quad dual 2.66 with Ram disfunction juntion

ok I woke up this morning after putting my mac to sleep last evening and went to power up to find the light blinking and no start up. I then looked into it and pulled a bunch of Ram figured out that something is going on with my risers, but the risers are working with both original 2 gig chips on the top riser slot and thats it nothing is working otherwise so I basically went from 10gb of Ram to 4gb. I tested both of the original ram chips in the top riser slot on both risers and they work. but only in the top slot. So i am left thinking the logic board is not working correctly or something but I am not sure. I am tech savvy but new to the mac pro with this setup. Any suggestions?

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
You have an Early 2008 Mac Pro. You have the specs that your Mac Pro needs for more memory > https://support.apple.com/kb/HT4433#4 As you can read, that computer should have come with 2 GB of memory.
You can buy memory at OWC or Crucial > http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/memory/Mac-Pro-Memory#800-memory Those sell compatible memory with all Macs. You can use another memory, but you can be sure that the memory that these brands sell are compatible

  • Hi I have just aquired a Mac Pro 2006, Dual Xeon 266, 3Gb RAM 360GB HD, I have tried to add another 2TB HD but for some reason it is not identified properly and will not erase

I have spoken to Apple tech, who suggested upgrading to Snow Leopard, but reading through the tech specs I believe my Mac Pro can support Lion OS, any thoughts on this matter?  I also added a 2Tb HD, which 10.4.1 the current OS on the machine, does not recognize properly.  Will Snow Leopard solve this problem? Or will I have to remove the 360Gb HD and Format/erase the 2T disk and set it up as the new Boot disk?  JackTar1957

  • Which model of Mac Pro Tower can take 64BG RAM?

    Hi everyone,
Been searching and going around in circles to find the true answer to this so I figured I'd just make this post.
EXACTLY which models of Mac Pro Tower can take 64GB of RAM. Looking on websites like OWC and asking people and I'm getting conflicting information and getting confused.
    THANKS!

    1. Yes.
    2. Yes; Apple doesn’t update its specifications when higher capacity RAM becomes available. A few models require more recent firmware versions and/or OSes installed to reach the actual limit.
