Mac Pro and 1080 LCD projector
I have had little success getting a Hi Def LCD projector to display correct resolution from a MacPro simultaneously running a 23" display from the video card. The Projector displays an extremely pixelated image, while the 23" Apple Display reduces its screen size to a very low resolution. What am I doing wrong? Thanks...
My first thought would be to add the Radeon 2600, it does work in 2007 models running Leopard. And the cost is acceptable.
As long as the X1900 is fine, no need to swap out for the newer 3870 just yet.

i have two monitors set up, a viewsonic vp191b and a vp930b lcd, connected via both dvi ports on the mac pro. the vp930b when the computer goes to sleep cycles on and off with the input message. if i put the mac pro to sleep via the menu sleep command, the last graphic/image on that monitor flashes on and off until i power the unit off, then it cycles on and off with the input message.
the problem is, the mac pro is not letting the display enter full low power mode and is sending some kind of signal still causing a cycle. the monitor works fine on other computers, the G5 i had pervious, and others i test. i tried switching ports and re-routing the cables, same result, the vp930b is still not allowed to enter full low power mode and starts an endless cycle of the monitor going from low power mode back the input mode. i reset the pram yet again and it still occurs. i tested the dvi cable and dvi port of the monitor on a macbook pro, the only other intel mac i have and it worked perfect. i can only conclude my macpro is either defective or incompatible with my viewsonic vp930b lcd display. anyone else using a viewsonic vp930b lcd display with a macpro 2.66. holidays suck when you are having tech issues.i tried that. it is only the one display, if i switch ports on the card, it still only does it to the same monitor. since it does not do it when the computer is off or starting up, the second monitor 2 port does not come on until the the login screen is near, and flashes an image on the screen, i know it is somewhere in the hardware or software. the mac pro is sending some signal to the vp930b still when it should not be. i know the displays and mac pro communicate with each other via the dvi link, so it is unique to this display.

Is my mac pro and visio 42' tv compatible?
I am trying to use my 42"Visio LCD as a monitor on my mac pro and I am having no success. Are they compatible? If they are any help would be appreciated on making it work. They are connected with a DVI-d to HDMI cable.
Set the TV to the input you connected the HDMI cable to.
On your computer, if you open the Displays preferences and do not see an Arrangement tab (or there is an Arrangement tab that shows only a single monitor) then there is something physically wrong with your connection. Try clicking Detect Displays just to see if the computer can now sense the presence of the connection.
If you do have an Arrangement tab, and it shows two screens, then click Gather Windows to bring the TV's Displays preferences on to your main screen if the TV is not yet showing an image. Set the proper resolution (probably 720p, 1080i, or 1080p). Set the refresh rate (probably 60Hz) if that preference is shown. You should see a picture at this point. I recommend turning off mirrored displays if it is enabled.
You may have to play with the underscan/overscan settings on your TV and the displays prefs for the TV if the picture is too small or larger for the TV screen.
When using a DVI connection for the video you need to handle the audio separately since audio is not passed through DVI. You could connect your stereo audio out to your TV (3.5 mm stereo jack for the compter to usually RCA jacks on the TV).
And if running Lion, do not run in Lion full screen mode. -
I have photoshop C6 on my MAC Pro and want to install it on my new MAC desktop. I sent the files with AirDrop but photoshop wont open I get an error message that it cant find the Library. Any thoughts?

i have a long-existing iPhone 4s with one apple id and started a job where I received a macbook with another apple id. how do i get my phone to sync with the Mac Pro and secondly how do i get my music on there?
No not bothered about sycing apps etc it is all about calendars and maybe notes. IN terms of how its done I just want it the easiest way and preferably so that if an entry is made on one calendar then it populates the other.
Thgius is beacuse I have my work diary on outlok, which I then link with my ical. I want to make sure that information is then shared with her.

IPhone not showing in iTunes on Mac Pro, and BLOWS keyboard on two Macs!
I have an extremely annoying issue since I upgraded my original iPhone to 2.0 and 2.1:
- I've got an iPhone (8GB, first gen) with 2.1 firmware
- Mac Pro early 2008
- Aluminium Keyboard (standard)
- iTunes 8
Whenever I attach my iPhone, the keyboard goes dead. Totally. Only way to re-animate it is by unplugging the iPhone and wait 5 seconds, then re-plug the keyboard. This is on a newly created Admin account on the Mac Pro and the iPhone that has been through a total factory reset back to 2.1 today...
And a newly re-installed iTunes 8 on (all computers).
Note my iPhone is no longer recognized in iPhoto or Aperture or iTunes on the Mac Pro either.
However, the iPhone works fine on a Mac Book Pro (newest model).
It does show up and sync on an iMac Intel 2.0 GHy, but kicks the Aluminum keyboard on that machine as well...
What is going on??
I will have to double-post this in iTunes and iPhone section, apologies in advance, but this is just too ridiculous... someone must have an answer to this. At least an explanation. I have been through every single USB port on my Mac Pro.
Apple "Genius" in Apple Store Regent Street recommended an archive & install of Leopard 10.5.x. Yeah right. I am working on this machine, I have not got time for that silly idea...

Alrighty, here we go - today I FINALLY made successful progress WITHOUT having to re-install my entire system...
I figured it was very weird that my iPod Mini would work fine on my Mac Pro USB ports, as all other small devices did too, but that the iPhone (first gen) would simply not trigger any reaction whatsoever.
The iPhone could be ruled out from being the funny one as it was instantly recognized on Macs in the Apple Shop. As I really did not feel I had time to archive & install and whatnot on my work machine, and the fact that I always thought my Mac Pro should have a few more (USB) ports, I researched suitable internal USB expansion boards.
After reading up about it, I decided to get this one: *Sonnet Allegro Express USB* - this card installs in seconds - you simply sht down your Mac Pro, pull the mains plug, take off the side door, unscrew the two thumbscrews holding the blind plates towards the back, take out one of the blinds, push the card in carefully but all the way in, re-attach the blind-holding plate and fire up your machine.
I plugged my regular iPhone dock into the back, pushed in my iPhone, and was instantly greeted by the short humming of the iPhone! Starting iTunes, the iPhone popped up in the side bar again - my precious iPhone is back alive and happy to sync contents!
Very happy to finally have found a solution.
If anyone tries this, I really hope it works as good for you as it did for me - if it doesn't, then for about $50 you've at least got those extra four USB ports on the back of your Mac Pro you always wanted

I have moved from a G5 Powermac to an Intel Mac Pro and selectively porting over items from a backup hard drive.
How can I access and use documents and drawings created on the PC based computer ?Clarisworks, you need Appleworks, which will only work with Mac OS X10.6.8 or earlier. See this tip if you must go newer. Mac Pros with newer hardware configuration than July 20, 2011 can't use Mac OS X 10.6.8 or earlier without this tip and then it would be Mac OS X Server. I'm not sure if the new black Mac Pro supports that configuration or not.
iPhoto, there is an iPhoto for all versions of Mac OS X.
iTunes, there is an iTunes for all versions of Mac OS X. Note with iTunes versions 11 and later, which are needed for syncing with iOS 7 or or later, you will lose coverflow, if you liked that feature. Sadly you can't run an older version of iTunes from within Mac OS X 10.9 or later.

But I also have a lot of Blu Ray disks.
I am going to load windows 7 via Boot Camp for other reasns. After that is done, and even with an external Blu Ray player, is it still not possible to play Blu ray movies?

i install windows 7 on my mac pro. and participate in windows 7 to 50gb 2 disk. but now i cannot enter my mac. only windows is appearing what should i do. when try enter my mac want me to format rest of the disk. how can i reinstall my mac?
If you use Windows program to partition the Hard Drive, the Apple partition gets destroyed.
Windows does not understand it is a guest on your Mac, and throws garabge wherever it pleases. -
I had an HP laptop. Just bought a Mac Pro and want to get my music and photos moved over. Can't I just open my I tunes in my new laptop and then connect my Iphone or I pod and sync my music into my I tunes?

You will need to boot from some alternate boot device to accomplish this, if you did not initialize the drive before installing it.
If you have another Mac, you may be able to use FireWire target disk mode.
If your MacBook has a DVD reader and you have a Mac OS X Installer/Utilities DVD, such as the one that shipped with it, you can boot from that DVD, answer only the "what Language" question, and wait a quarter minute for the MenuBar to be drawn. Then examine the Utilities menu or the Installer menu and Find Disk Utility. -
Cannot Complete Installation of Vista with Mac Pro and Boot Camp
I only have one hard drive with my Mac Pro, and I partitioned the drive into two sections with boot camp and restarted with my Vista 64 bit Ultimate CD.
I have tried formatting the partition with Vista and it still gives me the dreaded error message of "windows is unable to find a system volume that meets its criteria". I've tried deleting the partition during installation, and making a new partition with Vista, reformatting, then restarting the computer. Same message.
I don't know what to do. I've tried like mad searching for topics like this one here, but every one of them deals with installing vista on a second dedicated hard drive on the Mac Pro. I only have one. How do I get this to work?

Several things to do:
Run OS-X Disk utility and repair the disk if necessary, and file permissions.
Be sure your HD has the GUID partition scheme and if it has SMART that it's OK
Zap the PRAM
Be sure you are logged in as administrator when creating the BC partition and starting the installation of Windows from Leopard
When I installed Vista Ultimate 64-bit, I was using BootCamp beta, 1.2 or 1.3. I created the partition with BootCamp Assistant.app as you did. It's a 60GB partition that I formatted with NTFS with BC.
After starting the install in Tiger, I then simply inserted the Vista 64-bit DVD and that was it.
It just installed.
Ditto with XP-Pro on my other MBP. Zero problems with BC. It was also done with a beta, BC1.0.
I have never installed Windows using Leopard. When I updated to Leopard from Tiger nothing changed, but there seem to be more problems with Leopard and BC2.0 than there were with Tiger and the beta versions.
There are no requirements about legality until after the OS is installed, so that's a moot point.
There are some install DVDs that are in ISO format and they won't work, but it seems that yours is working but not finding a suitable volume.
You might try reformatting the BC partition with BootCamp assistant as FAt32 and seeing if that works, but you are limited to 32GB if you do that, but it would be a good test. Vista should then format it into NTFS.
Be sure that your Leopard OS is fully backed up because stuff happens when you keep fooling around with partitions.
