Mac Pro App crashes while looking for server that no longer exists

PROBLEM:
Motion crashes every time I try to launch. Before it crashes, a window appears with the message: "Looking for "G4MDD"--which is my old G4 machine.
BACKGROUND:
I kept my old G4MDD networked to my MacPro Intel machine for a while during my hardware migration due to Motion app instabilities I was experiencing.
Finally, with Motion v2.1.2, I was able to run Motion on my MacPro reliably.
I disconnected G4MDD from the network, deploying it to another building, dedicated to other non-FCP purposes.
I have not been able to launch Motion 2 on the MacPro since. It goes out looking for G4MDD, then crashes every time.
REMEDIES I'VE TRIED:
Everything Apple suggests on the Motion troubleshooting page, including re-install of the app following all instructions meticulously.
QUESTIONS TO GROUP:
1) Is there some server-related preference file I can try trashing?
2) Any other suggestions?

The location should be /Users/your name/Pictures. You can change this by holding down the option or alt key (the ones immediately to the left or right of the cmd keys either side of the spacebar) whilst clicking on the iPhoto application icon in your dock and making an informed choice from the options you see.
By default iPhoto creates an iPhoto Library (the folder where all your data in iPhoto is stored) in the /Users/your name/Pictures folder. It seems that in the past you must have selected an externally or network attached volume named TOSHIBA as the location for the iPhoto Library instead using the instructions I've given you. All you have to do is revert it back to the location you now want.

  • HT200160 mac keeps trying to connect to a server that no longer exists

every so often throughout the day, i'll get a error dialong telling me that my mac can't connect to a server because it no longer exists. This server was my old machine that has since been renamed on the network.
i don't want it to connect, i also don't want it to ask to connect. how do i find out why it's trying to connect, and how do i end this madness?

Boot in safe mode as directed here:
    Starting up in Safe Mode
Log in and see whether you still have the problem. If you don't, it's caused by one of your login items or a system modification that loads at startup or login.
If the problem isn't resolved that way, other possible causes are references in the iPhoto, iTunes, or iMovie library pointing to the server, and bookmarks in the Preview application
See iMovie Troubleshooting: Connection Failed, Server Does Not Exist.

The panic was caused by the MAXPower device or its software, maybe with help from one or more of the other third-party system modifications you've installed.
First check the manufacturer's website for an update. If there is none, or if it doesn't help, I suggest you remove the device, back up all data, and then remove the software according to the manufacturer's instructions. Reboot and see whether there's an improvement. If there isn't, post another panic report.

  • IMac is trying to connect to a server that no longer exist on my network.

iMac is trying to connect to a server that no longer exist on my network - I am looking for a solution to stop the error messages showing up. For instance, I have a contact in the address book that I need to change his picture and when I try to do that, for some reason, the server where the pics were stored appears as unavailble. The error message is not going away until the aplication is being closed.
    Appreciate any feedbacks.
    Thanks.

    Back up all data.
    1. If you use iCloud, uncheck the box marked Contacts in the iCloud preference pane. Press return to confirm, or click Keep on Mac in the dialog that opens.
    2. From the list of groups on the left side of the Contacts window, select All On My Mac. If that group doesn't exist or is empty, skip this step. Otherwise, from the menu bar, select
File ▹ Export ▹ Export vCard
Save the exported contacts to the Desktop.
    3. Quit Contacts. Triple-click the text on the line below to select it, then copy it to the Clipboard (command-C):
    ~/Library/Application Support/AddressBook
    In the Finder, select
    Go ▹ Go to Folder
from the menu bar, paste into the box that opens (command-V), and press return.
A Finder window will open with a folder selected. Move the selected folder to the Desktop, leaving the window open for now.
    4. Launch Contacts. Your contacts will be gone. If you took Step 2, then from the menu bar, select
    File ▹ Import
and import from the file you exported. Your contacts will reappear.
    5. Re-enable Contacts in the iCloud preference pane, if you disabled it. Test. If the issue is resolved, delete the AddressBook folder and the vCard file on the Desktop and close the open folder window.
Otherwise, quit Contacts again and put the AddressBook folder back where it was, overwriting the newer one that will have been created in its place. Post your results.

Apple IDs generally don't stop existing. If you mean that you have changed your email address, what you need to do is update your Apple ID to the new email.  Start here:

When I try to start iDVD it goes out to look for media on a shared drive that no longer exists... How can I make iDVD forget about that drive?

    Hi
I would start with - trashing the iDVD Preference file
    iDVD pref file resides.
    Mac Hard Disk (start-up HD)/Users/"Your account"/Library/Preferences
    and is named. com.apple.iDVD.plist
While iDVD is NOT RUNNING - move this file out to desk-top.
    Now restart iDVD.

  • Mac/iPhoto trying to connect to an old server that no longer exists

    I have a MacBook Air, running OS X 10.7.5
Because I was running out of space and set up an AFP connection to a NAS.  The NAS is now dead and gone, but in certain situations the Mac tries to connect
    1. In MS Office, if I have the ClipArt/Shape/etc browser open, it tries to connect to the server - is a PITA but I can live with it
    2. In iPhoto, it constantly tries to connect, particularly if I am using the slideshow feature - Has rendered iPhoto unusable.
The iPhoto situation is that I perhaps foolishly connected to a photo folder on the NAS share and iPhoto imported a bunch of pictures from there.  Now that the server is offline, it constantly looks for them and tells me that it can't connect.
I can still see the thumbnails but obviously it cannot access the full files. I don't know exactly which folders are NAS pictures and which are not
I've found some similar topics but not a satisfactory answer.
How can I stop this message - how can I stop the Mac from trying to connect to a server that is never going to be there?

The location should be /Users/your name/Pictures. You can change this by holding down the option or alt key (the ones immediately to the left or right of the cmd keys either side of the spacebar) whilst clicking on the iPhoto application icon in your dock and making an informed choice from the options you see.

  • TS3249 How can I delete an iMovie file reference to a server that no longer exists?

I am using iMovie 11 and used to have a NAS that I've removed. Whenever I open iMovie, i get a prompt stating that the NAS server (name) no longer exists.  I thought I had moved all my project files to an external hard drive but I must have missed one.  I've tried deleting the com.apple.iMovieApp.plist file but this didn't stop the prompt.  The prompt happens every 5 seconds or so until I close iMovie.
Is there a way to reassociate the missing file to my iMovie project?  When I clip on the "missing source clip" in the preview window, I cannot change the properties of the clip to reassociate it to the correct location.
    I am running OS X lion v 10.7.4, iMovie 9.0.8.

Yeah, this is quite late. Here's how I think you can do it. Run Show Package Contents on the .rcproject file. Find the file simply called "Project". Make a backup copy, and then open it with TextWrangler or similar program*. Search for the path in the file, fix it, and save. Try it in iMovie again. (The version I have is 9.0.4).
    * TextWrangler allows you to edit binary XML files, which is what Project is. I'm sure there are other programs that can do the same. This one is free.

  • Photoshop and Firefox looking for volume that no longer exits

A few months ago, I migrated from my dying MacBook G4 to a new Intel-based one. Since then, when I start Photoshop Elements or Firefox on the new MacBook, the application tries to access the hard drive on my old MacBook (Photoshop does this just once at startup; Firefox does this repeatedly, in patterns that I could not quite figure out yet). Unless I keep the old MacBook running on the network, the application hangs while it searches for the hard drive, and eventually displays the usual "Connection failed -- The server may not exist or it is not operational at this time. Check the server name or IP address and your network connection and try again" message. For Firefox, this is often several times in a row, so the application hangs for several minutes.
Naturally, I have reinstalled both applications as cleanly as I could, trashing every associated file I could find. The fact that the problem occurs for both of them suggests to me that the problem is elsewhere: both probably access the same Apple component, but I do not know which.
    Any suggestion is appreciated.

You miss understood they meant perhaps you could find someone here who had an extra license they would be willing to sell you, even if they did not use those exact words.
If your iMac supports CS4 it would cost you the same thing more then likely.
BTW legal or illegal if you used someone else's cross grade install it would be a waste of time as your windows serial number will not work on the Mac version. The $20 fee for the cross grade is for the Mac serial number which you can only get from Adobe but they do not sell it anymore.
Illegal or not it would not work, the support meant perhaps you could buy a Mac license for CS2 or 3 if someone wanted to part with their license for some reason.
Do yourself a favor upgrade to CS 4 if your iMac supports it and if not upgrade your iMac as well. You will be much happier, much more productive and it will prove more profitable.

  • IOS calender app crashes while looking at specific month.

Hi together, since yesterday my iOS calender app is crashing when i try to open the month of march 2013. I mean it does not crash like i am waiting endless times to load and nothing happens. It crashes really really hard, like it wants to say "**** you Year 2013 - and March in particular!" Now my question: Is there any way to destroy my ipad in a most efficient way? I don't want the little parts spilled all over the house. Thank you very much for your efforts.
    Kind Regards

    Hi King_Penguin,
thank you very much for your answer, i really appreciate it. But you tried to solve the iOS calender app problem, but i really don't want to solve this problem. I could now rant about how someone ***** up a calender app (every year) or that i don't want to do some ridiculous tasks to maintain a calender application, but that was not my intention. I really just wanna know if there is an efficient way to destroy the ipad. So please don't take this as an offense and i hope your answer helps anyone who wants to solve the problem. I am sure it does.
    Kind Regards

    Altenbach,
    Thanks for the quick reply.
Yes, the time stamp of this error coincides with the crash.  I guess I assumed that it caused the crash because I see about 20-25 instances of it in the Event Viewer.  Immediately before these errors appear there are two instances of the NI Configuration Manager with the Description saying "Opening configuration database".
This only happened on time and I have not been able to reproduce it again.
I'll need to explain to my customer why this Error has appeared so many times in the Event Viewer, and also how I can get it to not happen again.  Do you have any suggestions?  Once I isolate this error and prevent it from happening again then I can monitor the computer for future crashes.
    Thanks.

  • Apps still use an e-mail that no longer exist for updates

Several years ago I created an apple ID in itunes.  Now that e-mail does not exist. Recently, an apple support rep walked me through the process of changing my apple id to my current e-mail address.  Everything is working great except for updates.  My iphone & ipad shows apps that need to be updated, but when I try to update them, it gives me the old e-mail address and doesn't let me change it.  So I try to put in my old password that should match but it doesn't...because the apple i.d. and the e-mail address doesn't exist anymore.
So my question is this...How do I update apps that were purchased through an apple i.d. that still exists but is now associated with a different e-mail?  It won't let me change to the new e-mail.  I've tried everything.

I am having the same issue- all of my paid apps (magazine subscriptions) will not update with my REVISED (not new) apple ID- it keeps showing the one I changed it from when I go to update....

  • Just wondering if I'm looking for something that doesn't exist - can firefox automatically close the "print-preview" window after printing?

I'm using the addon in my firefox toolbar to print preview website data then append to a pdf file. Sometimes I am distracted, then can't remember if I've gone through the process and printed/appended the page to the file. It would be helpful if there was a way that the print preview window would close after printing thereby confirming that the process has completed. Thanks in advance.

    Thanks for your reply.
I'm running different versions of firefox on different computers. I'm aware of the upgrade procedures. Same issue in later versions as well.
The add-on is called "Print Preview Button 0.5" by sindre-wimberger which I obtained through the "Search Mozilla Support"
However, that's not really relevant - to bring this back to basics the same situation occurs if you do <File> <Print Preview> then print the document. The print preview screen remains until manually closed. Perhaps there is a setting in "about:config"? Does anyone know if this is so? There is an entry "print.whileinprintpreview" but not sure what setting does here. Suspect if set to "False" then you probably wouldn't be able to print from "Print Preview" screen.
    Thanks.

  • How do you 'Unbind' a machine from a server that no longer exists?

I have a particular problem at work, a server was loaned for our dev group to investigate a problem, we loaned an iMac to them for this work. However, the server was returned without the loaned iMac being removed from the server binding.
I need to be able to remove this binding as the machine still shows the menubar icon that it is integrated with OD.
I have tried forced unbinding but the icon persists.

are you talking about the mobile homesync icon in the menu bar? that will persist as long as the account is still a portable home — regardless of whether the machine is bound to the server.
to remove it, you can choose not to show it on the menu bar (uncheck the box in system prefs -> accounts or just command-drag it off the bar).
to remove the portable home (and thus the homesync icon), delete the account. if you need the data, you'll need to move the home folder (mv to rename is fine); delete the account; rename the old home folder; add the new local account, using the old home; then ensure permissions are correct on the old home folder.
