Mac Pro cannot netboot

Hello everyone.
We have a Tiger Server. With the existing nbi that we use for netbooting Intel Macs the Mac Pro cannot boot. Also the model is not available in the Model Property Filtering tab. Do we need a separate mbi for the MacPro, or we just have to wait for a Server OS update?
Thanks in advance

One person was able to create a NetBoot image capable of starting up a Mac Pro by using the Mac Pro's installation disks. If you are using a NetBoot image based on a previous version of Mac OS X, it will not start up a Mac Pro.

  • Mac pro cannot boot after upgrade to 10.8.3

My Mac Pro cannot boot after upgrade to 10.8.3. Anything firmware I can reset or how should I do.
I am using a early 2008 Mac Pro

Can you boot into safe mode? http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1455
If not, how about Recovery? http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4718
If you can, run Disk Utlity and repair the disk. You can try rebooting normally, but I would just reinstall after quitting Disk Utility.

  • Mac Pro cannot connect to WiFi... connection timeout error

I have an early 2008 Mac Pro desktop running 10.7.2.  I have it connected to the Internet via copper, but it is also part of my internal wireless network.  I am consistently getting "could not join [network].  A connection timeout occurred.  This is a recent issue, and I've made no system changes that I can remember that would have caused this.
My wireless network is an airport extreme and several airport expresses.  I have several devices connected to it, including iPads, iPhones, an iMac, etc.  All of the others are performing well.
I have rebooted my system.  I have rebooted the network.  I have gone into the genius bar and given them remote control of my system as it is running at home.  No luck.  The genius bar recommended trying booting from the install CD (I did burn one).  I did that, and I also booted from an older (3 months or so) Super Duper bootable backup.  It should be noted that the Super Duper drive was from a previous install of Snow Leopard.  When I changed to Lion I did so with a clean install on a SSD.  All of the boot options (SSD, CD, Super Duper Snow Leopard) give the same problem - timeout error.
I will say that the Super Duper boot and the CD boot find my two wireless networks immediately (1 is primary, the 2nd is guest).  When booting into SSD, I notice that they system seem to struggle to find both networks quickly and consistently.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.  The Genius Bar seems stumped, and a Google search on "could not join a connection timeout occurred" seems to indicate that this is happening to a bunch of folks.  Thanks in advance.

Try "Assist Me" which is located in System Preferences > Network.

  • Mac Pro Cannot Connect to Netopia Cayman 3346 Router

I have 2 Macs and 2 Windows Machine at home all connected via an ethernet usb hub to a Cayman 3346 Netopia router. None of the Macs or PCs have any trouble connecting to the internet. However, I just got a new Mac Pro and anytime I start up the machine with ethernet plugged in it just hangs. If I start up without ethernet plugged in it starts up fine (it is connecting via DHCP though I have tried it with a fixed IP address, as well - same results). If I then plug in ethernet after the startup, I am able to connect briefly to the internet but then any network action causes the Mac to hang. I'm using 10.4.8. Does anyone else have this happening or any ideas on how to fix this. I have taken the Mac Pro to my office and connected via ethernet with no issues so it does appear it has soemthign to do with my router and the Mac Pro specifically. Grateful for any help.

Is your system looking for a server on startup?
Do you have IPv6 off/manual/automatic? I'd turn it off.
There use to be a problem with not having the primary and secondary domain name servers (which your router picks up) needing to be manually entered in the Network control panel.

  • MacBook (not Pro) cannot NetBoot

Seem to have problem to boot up a MacBook with a netboot image. The image (10.4.6) is booting up fine any MacBook Pro, iMac and MacMini computer, but when trying to boot MacBook something is wrong with the display.
Also, in the Tiger Server, the model filtering tab in the Server Admin does not contain the MacBook. Only the iMac, the MacMini and the MacBook Pro.
Does anyone knows what are the files (display drivers?) needed for the MacBook to work?
    Thanks in advance

Something changed it appears in Server 10.4 and using System Image utility.
The previous version of server, 10.3, the NetBoot image that is created is only a few hundred MB in size. Now the install image is embedded in the .nbi folder in the Library folder under NetBootSP0 and can weigh in at over 4 GB. I have one image that is HUGE, 30 GB.
Does this mean we can delete the original disk image of our Main or perfect Macs? Do we need both images to save server space? I thought the install image was a minimal disk image that the computer uses to boot from and not the entire disk image.
    Any thoughts?

  • 10.5.8 mac pro cannot restore from time machine backup

    Hey there,
I've had a mac volume die on me so I ordered the 10.5.8 cds from Apple.  I installed the OS on a new hard drive and trying to migrate from time machine backup and the backup failed to move both my user and application settings.  I've tried using the migration assistant, this also fails and doesnt show me the correct volumes in TM.  Please help!

What have you done to repair and rebuild the directory of your old drives?
One word of caution is that Alsoft Disk Warrior is/was not (not sure latest version) to deal with the huge size of some TimeMachine backup volumes which as Ricks said, are complex and prone to failures.
I wanted to see how it would work to have one TM drive for dailys, another for just run once a week, and system clone before any updates. Plus a small handy emergency only boot drive volume (40GB).
So you are stuck with 10.5.8 due to cost of software applilcation upgrades? and with Lion there is no support for old PowerPC, no Rosetta to run and support those. And then ML coming soon which seems to drop support for pre-2008s.
Metadata is trash as in temp cache and in a smart backup - like CCC and such - would never be backed up or shouldn't be - they should be deleted and is one case and use for things like CCleaner to be run (until Safari and Chrome do job limited age and size of disk caches).
Caches and temp files and logs can be source of problems.
SyncServices - 10.5.x started using that and that would get messed up at least when I looked at it 10.5.2+ era.
I'd dual boot SL and 10.5.8
10.5.x came out 4.5 yrs ago. In that time I upgraded boot drive couple times, formatted/initialized when it came out and again a year later 10.5.6 and then with 10.6.0 or about once a year to clone, erase, restore.
You used your backup drive for two years.
Originally hoped that it would be easy and possible to clone TM backup drives for safety and so you coudl take a good set with a year of data on it and instead of start over, take it and make a copy for archive your files. A good file history.
There are programs that add to and help manage and allow the user to look at and choose backup sets from different points in time.  I take it you can't do that.
I would invest in more backup drives, internal and external, while try to build a new solid footing and foundation - so you can install, clone, do more modifications and installs and updates, so you never have to redo.
With backup clones you would never have to worry about reinstalls or lost files. CCC will with a large enough volume also allow archive of file changes. TM is probably good - for those that didn't and dont' like to backup.
I would hope though have seen enough errors, but you are using the initial TM backup program which has had three more OS versions and 3 yrs since to improve form 10.5.8 (came out June '09).

    Go to Adobe's website.

  • Cannot send email from 3 accounts Mac Pro

My brand new Mac Pro cannot send email using Gmail, Shaw, or iCloud.  At times I can send a simple test message, other times I cannot send.  It seems the more data in the email, it for sure cannot be sent.  The sent messages get stuck in the Out Box.  Full green lights, no red lights in the connection diagnostics window.  Any help in this regard will be much appreciated.

thank you for your reply, I did this with the same problem.  Turns out that I went to FAQ section and went to the "Sharing" section of "system preferences"  and changed my computer name by removing all spaces and apostrophe where it lists my computer name under Mac Book Pro, and problem solved.

  • My mac pro laptop cannot access the internet which is cable thru airport extreme any suggestions

My Mac pro cannot access the internet cable but is connected to wi fi thru airport extreme. my apple desktop works fine on the system and sits next to my laptop. any suggestions

"I have an ethernet cable in port 1 on my computer. That is configured manually to access ther office network."
Do you have a "real" IP address or a private (192.168.x.x, 10.x.x.x, 172.x.x.x) IP address?
"The wireless router was connected to the company server only for the purpose of getting me online through Airport because I couldn't access it using an ethernet connection"
Could not access it because their network security blocked you by intent, or had some unknown technical difficulty?
Unless you are blocked by intent or ommission (if they have to explicitly allow your machine) I can think of no technical reason why your wired connection should not both get you on their network and on the internet in general. You should not need to be dual homed (though dual homing should work as well).
Please answer the questions above when you can - I think solving the wired LAN issue will be easier if you are not being intentionally blocked.

  • I paid for lion because my 2006 mac pro will not run anything newer (arbitrary decision by apple). Downloaded it, but nothing happened. App Store now says i've already downloaded it, so I can't try again. App store also says lion isn't available in usa.

I found out that an 06 mac pro cannot be updated to anything more recent than lion. They guys at the local shop told me this after they tried to update it for me so I could run logic pro 9 in 64 bit mode. I bought lion. Waited two days for the emails. Spent hours following the instructions which sounded so simple until you try them. Finally I found the "redeem" button that was hidden because the size of my safari window was too small to show it and there was no bar at the bottom to scroll over. Without googling "how do you find the app store" and "how do you find quick links" I never would have figured it out. I only mention this so that others may learn from my mistakes. Finally I downloaded lion, supposedly, but nothing happened. There is no indication that anything downloaded, other than the fact that when I try to download it again, it says it's already been downloaded. I spent four hundred bucks at the shop updating, plus whatever they charged me for lion, and I've still got snow leopard and logic pro running at 32 bits. I'm pretty sure nobody can help me, but could you please arrange for the return of my time?

You can go to "Purchases" tab and check again.
If OS X Lion is still not downloading, try at a different network environment.
By the way, Mac Pro (2006) with a newer graphics card runs Mavericks perfectly with modifications in the installer.
It's not allowed to be discussed here, but you can simply google how to do it.

  • Mid 2010 Mac Pro boot camp recognizing 1.86GB RAM

I have a mid 2010 Mac Pro w/ 6GB RAM and a dedicated video card. Win7 32-bit is boot camped on it. I know 32-bit Windows can only use 3.75GB of RAM. However, this Mac Pro is only seeing 1.86GB.
Since this is Win7, no boot.ini is available for /3GB switch and editbcd /set increaseuserva 3072 did nothing, even after clearing out the variable and resetting it to 3072.
I came across a post saying UEFI/BIOS for Mac Pros cannot see more than 1.86GB RAM in a Windows 32-bit environment. Is this true? It was only the one post and I forgot where I saw it.  If not,  how do I resolve this issue? If not, that's fine. I can format and install Win7 64-bit if needed. I want to confirm 64-bit Win7 will recognize more than 1.86GB of RAM. Any input?
    Thank you.

64 bit Windows will see and use all your ram.

  • Can i install gtx titan on mac pro*

can i install gtx titan on mac pro* help please
    Thanks

    that card does not have:
    • EFI firmware to show a picture under Mac OS X
    • at most two 6-pin aux power cables (the card has one 6 and one 8-pin, and requires BOTH which the Mac Pro cannot accomodate)
Without substantial modification it will not work under Mac OS X.

  • Lost connection to wireless network on Mac Pro

My network infrastructure at home is as follows:
An Airport Extreme links to my DSL modem.
One Mac Pro is connected to the Airport Extreme via Ethernet.
One Airport Express extends the wireless network.
Another Mac Pro connects to the extended wireless network.
One Airport Express is used for Airtunes.
There are also a PS3 and an Xbox 360 in the wireless network.
Since this morning the "wireless" Mac Pro cannot see the wireless network anymore. I did not change any notwork settings and my wireless network is still saved as preferred network. Airport in OSX just cannot see it. However, I can see our neighbors' networks, so I assume Airport is working in the Mac. Upon login I get a dialog box prompting me to select a wireless network. My own network is not listed.
All Airport base stations have a green light and show up as working fine in the Airport Utility on the "wired" Mac.
When I use my iPod touch in the room with the "wireless" I can log into the wireless network without any problems. When I unplug the Airport Express station extending the network, the iPod's connection is much weaker or even breaks off. Thus I assume the network is fine and the base stations are indeed working properly.
I did not change anything in the hardware or software configuration. So I am flabbergasted as to what caused the loss of connectivity.
Any ideas, what I could try to get the "wireless" Mac connected again?
The pearls of wisdom from the Mac community are highly appreciated.
    Cheers,
    Mustrum

I've spent some time with AppleCare on this issue. They had me trash some preferences files, then run the Disk Utility to "Repair Disk Permissions" on my hard drive. They said this should fix it if it's a software issue, but if not then it's an Airport hardware issue, and I should take my MacBook to the Apple Store for repair.
    FOLLOW THESE STEPS
1 - Trash these prefs files from your Library:
    - com.apple.airport.preferences.plist
    - NetworkInterfaces.plist
    - preferences.plist
    2 - Restart computer.
3 - Go to your Network Preferences and define a new location. Then click on the little gear icon to "Set Service Order" and put Airport at the top. Click Apply.
4 - Open Disk Utility and select your hard drive. Click on the button that says "Repair Disk Permissions". You'll see some warnings etc.
This should work for both Tiger and Leopard. I upgraded over the weekend.

  • New Mac Pro USB Problems!

It seems the new Mac Pro cannot recognize certain devices.  Such as my Access Virus Ti synthesizer-  users cannot get the Mac to recognize the USB connection from the Virus.  Please help.  I'm losing my mind after 7 hours trying to figure it out and the only indication is that the USB ports on the new mac are possibly incompatible...  Please tell me I can still use my $3000 instrument with my new $4500 mac pro which i just bought SPECIFICALLY to use with this VIrus Ti synthesizer!
Link to Virus Ti user forums showing other people with the same problemhttp://www.virus.info/forum/index.php/Thread/5522-MacPro-trashcan-and-TI-Anyone- got-it-working/?postID=28004&highlight=trash%2Bcan#post28004

From what you said it appears that the synthesizer is not compatible. That would be a problem for the synthesizer manufacturer to resolve.

  • Mac Pro won't recognize airport card or existing network

I have a 2007 Macbook in the house with an old Belkin MIMO router. the wireless netwrok works fine. In fact, my son waltzes in and says "hey what's the wireless password?" and logs on INSTANTLY on his Macbook Pro.  Now we have a (desktop) Mac Pro with a new Airport Extreme card, and the Mac Pro cannot find the network - it's only 5 feet away. The name of the network does not appear where the network names should populate. We've typed it, and the WPA password in 100 times, and nothing, justs keeps asking the same question. Filling in PPPOE info doesn't work either.
NOTE: We do NOT have the airport extreme base at this house. We simply want the Mac Pro to FIND the existing network (Belkin wireless router and good old Airport on the 2007 Macbook so the Mac Pro can get on the internet wirelessly.
Anyone have any ideas? Is the bios just not recognizing the new Airport Extreme card? How should it be configured?
    Thank you!

There are four tiny black wires inside, three of which must be correctly connected to the AirPort card before you have any hope of connection over wireless.
Stay away from PPPoE unless you have been told by your ISP that there is no other possible way to log on to the internet.
    Turn OFF IPv6 if possible.
If the card is functioning, you get an Airport/WiFi pane in System Preferences > Network. You will also see it in System Profiler.
