Mac pro charger green then turns red computer won't come on

I connect my charger to computer light green then immediately turns to red and computer tries to come up but cuts off.  What could be the problem?
Do I need another charger?

Option click the battery icon in the menu bar to check the condition of the battery.
If it says "Normal", try to reset SMC.
Reset SMC.     http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964
Choose the method for:
"Resetting SMC on portables with a battery you should not remove on your own".
If this does not help, you may have to take the MBP and the charger to the Apple store to have it checked out.
Best.

  • For some reason when I shut down my computer then turn it back on, it comes back directly into my account, bypassing having to enter a password to get into my account.  This works in direct conflict with the parental controls I've got set up.  Any ideas?

Thank you so much for the quick response to my question.  I tested your directions and it works!!  Thank you.  I would never have figured that out.  I knew I had to go into System Preferences but would not have guessed that I needed to have Automatic Login set to off.

    Try option/command/R
Don't press it until you hear the chime, don't release it until you see recovery loading, don't press other random combinations unless you know what they do.

I use my own color profiles from Photoshop CS6/Mac Pro - how do I turn of Epson Artisan 837 printer color management?

Choose Photoshop Manages Color in the CS6 print dialogue. At the top, click the Print Settings button and disable any color management settings for the printer.
Edit: Correction, that's CS6 in Snow Leopard. In Mountain Lion, if you check the print settings, color management for the printer should automatically be disabled when using Photoshop Manages Color.

Should I buy airport express, extreme or time capsule?  I have my new Mac Pro. 2 iPhones, 2 iPads , and grandchildren who come with their devices.  I live in a two-level house.

A Time Capsule is an AirPort Extreme with a built in hard drive to allow your Mac(s) to back up automatically, so it's a logical choice if you need a wireless router and back up capabilities for your Macs
The AIrPort Extreme has a bit better antenna arrangement than an AirPort Express, so it would be a good choice for a two level house.
Depending on the location of the "main" wireless router, you may find that you still need to add an extender or two in other parts of the house for full, fast wireless coverage. The AirPort Express is a good choice for this duty.

My iPhone 4S shut off with a 62% battery life and hasn't came back on yet. I've charged it and all it just won't come back on at all. Is this a common problem? Is this covered under my 1 year warranty?

    No it is not common.
    Most have no issues.
Have you tried basics from the manual?  Restart, reset, restore?
The warranty covers defects.  If the iphone is defective, then they would replace it.

  • Mac Pro (2008) clicks then does not turn on?

So I have a Mac Pro 3,1 it has been off for several weeks since I upgraded to a newer system, and I was keeping around as a backup, also it has several HDDs in it.  I went to turn it on today and to my dismay, when I hit the power button, I hear a click come from the power supply, the usual noise, and then a few seconds later it clicks off.  I cannot find anything online about this,
the only thing I could fine was here
    https://support.apple.com/kb/TS1367
which let me to try to reset the SMC here
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964
which did nothing, I had already done those steps and tried different cables.  I am totally at a loss here, and Apple Car expired on this machine over a year ago, does anyone know whats going on?

  • Mac Pro 1,1 (2006) turns on when plugged in, won't boot

I've been battling with this problem for a few days now.
On my Mac Pro 2006 1,1 the cursor froze one day while I was using the computer.  Stupidly, I waited a few minutes for it to respond and then forced the power off.  Since then, the computer powers on, and it chimes and shows the apple boot logo, but no loading circle as it normally should if it were loading OS X.  I tried leaving it on for an hour or so, with no avail.  It seems that my PC keyboard which I have plugged in via USB (I also tried a second PC keyboard, so it's not the keyboard itself) does not seem to be recognized in this state.  I've tried SMC reset, both by turning off the machine, unplugging, pressing the power key for 15  seconds, replugging and waiting 5 seconds to start the machine, and then pressing the internal button on the motherboard, no luck there.  The strange thing is that the Mac Pro will start itself up right when plugged in, when it's been unplugged for a while, even after the SMC reset.
I've tried all of the possible keyboard key combinations I can find, and I'm convinced that the USB ports aren't working.
    Any help is greatly appreciated!

    Hi ..
Boot from your install disc while holding down the C key.
That way you can access the Disk Utility app to repair the startup disk and reinstall OS X.

  • Mac Pro Charger

My charger is plugged into my computer, but my computer seems to only recognize it intermittently. I'm afraid that it'll stop charging completely, or I won't be able to get power when I need it. Advice?

I would first recommend resetting the System Management Controller (or "SMC") to rule it out as a possible cause. The System Management Controller is responsible for certain tasks inside of your computer, such as charging the battery and controlling the power adapter.
To reset the SMC on a MacBook Pro (Early 2009 and later, with a non-removable battery):
    Shut down the computer.
Plug in the MagSafe power adapter to a power source, connecting it to the Mac if its not already connected.
On the built-in keyboard, press the (left side) Shift-Control-Option keys and the power button at the same time.
Release all the keys and the power button at the same time.
Press the power button to turn on the computer.
To reset the SMC on a MacBook Pro (Late 2008 and earlier, with a removable battery):
    Shut down the computer.
Disconnect the MagSafe power adapter from the computer, if it's connected.
    Remove the battery.
Press and hold the power button for 5 seconds.
    Release the power button.
Reconnect the battery and MagSafe power adapter.
Press the power button to turn on the computer.
For more information on the System Management Controller ("SMC"), please see http://support.apple.com/kb/ht3964.
Failing that, I would recommend taking your MacBook Pro along with the power adapter into the Genius Bar at an Apple Store (if one is available in your area) and explain the situation to them, chances are they will be able to test the computer with another power adapter to see if it's the power adapter or if something is happening with the MacBook Pro itself.
Alternatively, you could contact an Apple Authorized Service Provider if an Apple Store is not available in your area and they would be able to further troubleshoot the issue with you.
Hope that helps and have a great day.
