I can't update my software because software update tells me I'm not connected to the internet... if that's true how am I able to ask this question?... Can anyone tell me what's going on and what I need to do to correct this?
If you have a slow connection speed, update will not download.
Are you using broadband and are you close to the modem? -
Hello everyone, like most people on this site, I am having difficulties understanding and fixing my Macbook Pro. About a month ago my computer screen went black, the computer was unresponsive, and it started making a beeping noise. I restarted the computer, and it seemed to have fixed itself. 6 days ago, I put my laptop into it's case with some papers, went home (about 30 min. after putting laptop into case), and opened my bag. My computer's fans were on, the computer was really hot, and when I opened the computer, the screen was black and unresponsive. I turned it off, let it cool down, turned it back on, started to stream a video on Hulu, and about ten minutes after, the screen went black again and the computer was unresponsive. Now everytime I turn it on after about ten to fifteen minutes the screen will go black, the computer will become unresponsive, and I have to shut it off. The weird thing though is that everytime I restart my computer, when I reopen my account, my computer acts as if nothing has happened, and everything I had opened or unsaved is still there without autosave saving the documents. The screen also goes black and the computer becomes unresposive when I move the computer around. I get a lot of pop-up ads and other crap on my computer when I am on the internet. I don't know if one of those pop-up websites might have given me a virus or may be the cause of this problem. I don't now what is wrong with my computer or how to fix it, but if anyone has any advice, I WOULD GREATLY APPRECIATE IT!!!!!!! Thank you very much!!!
-- Sincerely, A very confused, scared, and hopless Macbok OwnerTo get rid of "pop-up ads and other crap on my computer when I am on the internet", click on Safari in the Menu bar, and select Preferences. Next select Extensions. Delete all of them. Restart Safari.
The first step in addressing the black screen is an SMC reset.
Shut down the computer.
Plug in the MagSafe power adapter to a power source, connecting it to the Mac if its not already connected.
On the built-in keyboard, press the (left side) Shift-Control-Option keys and the power button at the same time.
Release all the keys and the power button at the same time.
Press the power button to turn on the computer.
Note: The LED on the MagSafe power adapter may change states or temporarily turn off when you reset the SMC.

I am trying to update my apps but I am receiving an invalid address box. Can anyone tell me what is going on with this box? I put my correct info in and the box continues to pop up.
There are a number of threads about it - it looks like Apple recently updated their address validation. Some people have recorded success by :
ensuring that their iTunes account address is exactly the same as appears on their credit card bill
putting something in the second line of the address (including just copying the first line)
expanding abbreviations e.g. St to Street, Ave to Avenue etc (or conversely abbreviating)
putting apartment or suite number on the second address line -
I have mac os x10.4.11 Tiger , i tried to update and after I did that when I tried to use itunes, but it doesn't open.. can anyone tell me what I have to do to fix this ??
Hello,
Leopard requirements/10.5.x...
* Mac computer with an Intel, PowerPC G5, or PowerPC G4 (867MHz or faster) processor
minimum system requirements
* 512MB of memory (I say 1.5GB for PPC at least, 2-3GB minimum for IntelMacs)
* DVD drive for installation
* 9GB of available disk space (I say 30GB at least)
Classic/OS9 Apps no longer supported.
Trouble is Apple no longer sells it, check eBay & such for the Retail version, not the Gray Discs...
http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_nkw=mac+os+x+leopard+retail+10.5
There are workarounds if the 867MHz CPU is the only hangup...
http://sourceforge.net/projects/leopardassist/

So we know more about it...
At the Apple Icon at top left>About this Mac, report the version of OSX from that window, then click on More Info, then click on Hardware> and report this upto but not including the Serial#...

I have a Mac Pro 4,1 quad core intel Xeon running mac OSX 10.6.8 and I have just moved studios and now need to use the Internet wirelessly but there's no airport facilities on this model can anyone tell me what model of airport card I would need for this mac
Instead of getting a wireless card for the Mac Pro, you might want to consider getting an 802.11ac wireless bridge device that would enable you to connect more than one device to it by Ethernet cable and to eventually take advantage of the faster 802.11ac wireless standard.

My imac will not load after I enter my password. The only thing I get is the arrow from my mouse on top of a blank white screen. Can anyone tell me what this is? I've restarted and turned off several times. I left it on in this state for 8 hours hoping it would reload and work. No luck.
Hello KCC4ME,
You may try booting your Mac in Safe Boot, as it can resolve many issues that may prevent a successful login.
OS X: What is Safe Boot, Safe Mode?
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1564
If a Safe Boot allows you to successfully log in, you may have issues with one or more login itmes (while the following article is labelled as a Mavericks article, it is viable for earlier versions of the Mac OS, as well).
OS X Mavericks: If you think you have incompatible login items

Transferred backed-up data from external hard disk to new hard drive on my MacBook Pro which seemed to be successful. I now find that some (or maybe all) old emails have been resent. Can anyone tell me what has happened?
Greetings,
I've never seen this issue, and I handle many iPads, of all versions. WiFi issues are generally local to the WiFi router - they are not all of the same quality, range, immunity to interference, etc. You have distance, building construction, and the biggie - interference.
At home, I use Apple routers, and have no issues with any of my WiFi enabled devices, computers, mobile devices, etc - even the lowly PeeCees. I have locations where I have Juniper Networks, as well as Aruba, and a few Netgears - all of them work as they should.
The cheaper routers, Linksys, D-Link, Seimens home units, and many other no name devices have caused issues of various kinds, and even connectivity.
I have no idea what Starbucks uses, but I always have a good connection, and I go there nearly every morning and get some work done, as well as play.
You could try changing channels, 2.4 to 5 Gigs, changing locations of the router. I have had to do all of these at one time or another over the many years that I have been a Network Engineer.
Good Luck - Cheers,
M. -
Itunes document manager pro will not open a document with .cwk extension. It will catch the document then error message states that it cannot open document. Can anyone tell me what Im doing wrong?
Forgive my ignorance but I have never hear of iTunes Document Manager Pro. If you mean Document Manager Pro, i was able to find that. Back to your problem, have you tried opening one of those files in the iOS iWorks apps? Form the quick read that I did about this, .cwk files can be opened by Pages, Numbers or Keynote, depending on what type of document that it is and those files can be read by Document Manager Pro, after properly saving them. I don't see that you can go directly from the .cwk file in Document Manager Pro without converting them first.
I took a very quick look at the app, so I may be a missing something about its capability. -
. Can anyone tell me what the problem is?
I have had the same issue since day 1 of the ios5 installation. I always hit "Cancel" and then the iPad eventually shows up again in iTunes. Then a few hours later, I get the same message again. Annoying, but I've not found a way around it.

I'm trying to update my iPad but it says I don't have enough available storage. But I have more than enough can anyone tell me what the problem is?
Well, we can't as we don't know what you consider as "more than enough". The built is quite heavy (like it can be 800mb) then it needs to be extracted to be installed before everything unneeded gets deleted...

Can anyone tell me how to read a crash report?
I can not find anywhere on how to read a crash report. Can anyone tell me? The only tutorial I have found is located here, but it pay-for subscription only.
For some reason I a lot of my applications are crashing. A lot of the applications are 3rd party, but today two Apple applications crashed...Preview and iPhoto.
The only thing I can attribute to these crashes is my uninstallation of Garage Band using Deinstaller. I uninstalled all GarageBand*.pkg files in my /Library/Receipts/ folder.
Here are my two recent crash reports: iPhoto Preview
Any help would be much appreciated!I used Pacifist to replace what the Product
Specialist was the corrupt file and I am still
crashing applications...specifically BLT. Click here to view crash report. I have
never had a problem with BLT, so I don't know why its
just now starting to crash.
I redownloaded the
application and have notified the Developer
requesting assistance. I think it's a system issue
because it happens in multiple user
accounts.
The crash report refers
consistently to 0x9294d120 which is at the top of the
crashed thread. This thread refers to a
com.apple.Foundation file causing the
problem. I can not locate this file anywhere
within my system or the 10.4.6 Combo
update.....anyone have any suggestions after
reviewing the crash report?
Here is a technical guide concerning the Crash Report:
http://developer.apple.com/technotes/tn2004/tn2123.html
and here is a guide for Crash reporting:
http://developer.apple.com/bugreporter/bugreportingguide.html
Apple, of course doesn't have to support third-party products, so it's best to contact the third party with regards the issue. There are simple things you can check like the installation, hardware incompatibilities... etc, but I assume you have done this from reading the earlier verbiage in the thread.
