Mac pro finder relaunch by itself when running CS2

Hi, I got my Mac Pro running on Leopard Jan this year. Not long it starts to have issues.
When I am in the midst of doing work cs2, the program suddenly shuts down abruptly, leaving a blue screen for abt ten secs and the other programs (eg. itunes and msn messenger) also shuts down as well. It is as if the finder relaunch automatically but suddenly.
I called applecare but they are not sure whether there's a problem with my OS or hardware.
Anyone can please advise me, I'm exasperated

First of all, I finally figured out that when you write
"com", you mean
computer. :/
Second, I told you in post #1:
CS2 is not supported by Adobe under Leopard. There will be no patches or updates for any version earlier than CS3.
I guess you didn't believe me. :/
Third, you are right. You cannot revert to Tiger because your
"com" won't support it.
In order for an application to run in the native Mac-Intel environment, it has to be written for that CPU. CS2 cannot run natively on a Mac-Intel machine because it was written for PPC Macintosh computers so it needs to run in a software emulation mode called Rosetta. That's the difference between running natively and running in an emulation mode that emulates a pre-Intel PowerMac chip (PPC).

    Thank you!
You are still under warranty.  Call Apple Care. Make sure you get a case number as all repairs have an additional 90 days of warranty.
#1 - You have 14 days from the date of purchase to return your computer with no questions asked.
#2 - You have 90 days of FREE phone tech support.
#3 - You have the standard one year Apple warranty.
#4 - If you've purchased an AppleCare Protection Plan, your warranty last for 3 years.   You can obtain AppleCare anytime up to the first year of the purchase of your computer.
Take FULL advantage of your warranty.  Posting on a message board should be done as a last resort and if you are out of warranty or Apple Care has expired.

Will not show up in safe mode, will not show when started from Windows 7 DVD.
I suspect the Mac update wiped out my PC video drivers but can not think of a way to re-install?
Can see the PC volume from Mac side with files.
I've looked at all the online solutions so far and have tried most of them without success. Please help!

    EDIT: RESOLVED
For anyone else who finds their way here like I did, this link did it for me: https://forums.geforce.com/default/topic/527599/windows-8-issues-solved-please-r ead-if-you-39-re-having-black-screen-and-or-flickering-/
Specifically, the posts by Dunsany and valkyr did the trick.  I booted in safe mode, uninstalled and deleted the Nvidia driver, disabled automatic driver installation, and restarted normally.  I then manually downloaded and installed the previous Nvidia driver for my graphics card (which at the time of this writing was 335.23, rather than the latest which was 337.88), and everything is now bueno!
Two hiccoughs along the way: First, when I tried to uninstall the Nvidia driver the first time, when I restarted I got the login screen (which was a good sign), but it quickly went black again.  I powered down, restarted in safe mode again, and repeated the uninstallation process, and it worked the second time.  Second, when I started the manual install of the 335.23 driver, the computer played a sound similar to the one for disconnecting a USB device, and the screen went black.  I'd seen a lot about trying to increase the brightness (though it hadn't worked up to this point; but if you haven't tried it yet, might as well); I tried it, and it worked! So far I'm back up and running. [/fingers crossed]
    Hope this helps someone else!

Bought the Iphone 6   2 days ago. My mac pro finds the phone on bluetooth but phone will not discover ANY bluetooth divices. Have hard reset the phone and restarted as well. nothing. Any suggestions or issues. This is the first apple phone I have owned. Am not very happy that Bluetooth would present a problem.

I can't help with the other devices but note that an iPhone will not pair via Bluetooth to a computer (Mac or Windows) except for personal hotspot and then only if your cellular plan supports it. https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-7722
If you are attempting to use Handoff/Continuity, that does involve Bluetooth but the devices are NOT paired; Bluetooth just needs to be on and the devices in range of each other. The following may help with Handoff/Continuity issues: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS5458

  • Mac Pro crashes and turns itself off

Hello, hope someone can help me!
I have a 2008 Mac Pro and recently it's been crashing and restarting itself. The first two times it crashed it wouldn't restart so I took it to the Genius bar where they had it for a total of 6 days running various tests to try and get the problem to happen again and testing all the hardware, Disks, RAM, Graphics card etc but they couldn't find a problem!
The last time I took it to the Genius bar they reinstalled the system and when it crashed yesterday I was able to get it to restart and it's now running again. I was able to get a crash report (see below) from when it crashed yesterday and hopefully there's someone out there who can decipher this and see what the problem was?

  • After installing 10.8.3 on Mac Pro, finder stops responding after 7-8 hours

A week or two ago I installed the 10.8.3 update to my Mac Pro at work. Ever since, towards the end of every work day, after 7-8 hours of continuous work, the finder will just stop responding. I am usually alerted to this by trying to open a new file, only it won't open. I am then unable to restart or **** down and am forced to do a hard shut down to turn off the machine. Upon starting up the machine again, I do a permissions repair, then restart again. Then everything will work fine for another 7-8 hours. If I leave my machine on overnight, it won't work when I arrive for work in the morning, and I'll have to repeat the process above.
I have tried running the free Maintenance software from Titanium Software, and that has not solved the problem. I was also concerned about font issues, so I ran the free version of FontDoctor, and it reported a bunch of things to fix. But I do not want to spend the $70 on the full version if that's not going to fix the problem.
I spoke with an IT guy I work with, and he said it might be worth dealing with the hassle until the 10.8.4 update arrives.
    Any other suggestions?

    Back up all data.
Launch the Font Book application and validate all fonts. You must select the fonts in order to validate them. See the built-in help and the support article linked below for instructions. If Font Book finds any issues, resolve them, then boot in safe mode* (by holding down the shift key at the startup chime) to rebuild the font caches. Boot again as usual and test.
    Mac 101: Font Book
*Note: If FileVault is enabled under OS X 10.7 or later, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t boot in safe mode. In that case only, after running Font Book, launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Drag or copy — do not type — the following line into the Terminal window, then press return:
    sudo atsutil databases -remove
You'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. You may get a one-time warning not to screw up. After running the command, reboot as usual.

  • Mac Pro fans all of a sudden running extremely loud!

I restarted my computer routinely and when it booted back up the fans started running very loud. They have never run this loud before.
I reset SRC and PRAM as well as replaced the power cord and cleaned the dust out. I also checked that there were not any programs running at high CPU.  Nothing new was installed on or into the computer. The computer is not running hot.
I don't know what else to do
The loud fans does not affect the performance of the computer but it's a work from home computer and I need these fans to quiet down!!
This is a MAC pro 1,1 running OS 10.7

Readers have reported "all fans" went to high speed, but on closer examination it sometimes turns out that the graphics card fan, all by itself was making all that noise. If that is the case, the prognosis is very different.
The side door is not interlocked, and can be removed with the Mac Running to determine the exact source of the fan noise.
Caution: The European Commission has determined the anyone living in Europe is not smart enough to keep their fingers out of the plastic fans used in a Mac Pro, so they have been banned Mac Pro silver tower from sale in Europe for over a year now.

  • Mac Pro 2.66 powers itself up after shutdown

    Hi,
Just wondering if any other mac pro users out there have encountered an issue where by your machine powers up of its own accord after shutting down. I have switched off the wake for ethernet access and restart after power failure tick boxes in the energy saver prefs to see if that was the problem but it still happened. I'll try zapping the pram, and see how it goes.
I can only think that it happened around the time I installed DssW Power Manager on my machine. I used the uninstaller that came with the software so it should have been completely removed from my system.
Any thoughts on this would be appreciated.

    Could it be the frameworks?
FYI the DssW Power Manager software for "automated power management". So that you can schedule appropriate times to put itself to sleep say if you forget to do it manually.
You mentioned about the connected devices, I have an Elgato TV tuner and a Firewire 800 connected external hard drive (which I turn off when the computer is shutdown).
I'll try the safe boot now.
    Thanks in advance.

  • 2008 Mac Pro 3,1 RAM burning up - running hot

Problem: 2008 Mac Pro Tower running hot.
Possible causes: Power Supply? Fan not working? Machine has 667 mhz RAM not 800 mhz.
PSU was chirping like a cricket a few weeks ago. I pulled it out, air cleaned it (and the entire Mac, vacuumed all the dust) and left PSU out for 12 hours to static discharge, etc. When I put the PSU back in, it was working and the chirping was gone.
Successfully used the MAC for a few days, no probs other than 2 DIMMS went bad. I went away for 2 weeks, tried to start-up the Mac yesterday and it wouldn't power on at all, no light. I unplugged it, tried different outlets, power cords, etc. Then I removed any changes that I had made previously (i.e. installed diff HD and 2 new RAM DIMMs to replace the ones that burned up) before going away. I removed PSU and let it sit while I cleaned the 2 DIMMs that had seemed to overheat before I went away. Put it all back together (PSU, old DIMMs which were cleaned and left HD #3 out) and it powered up. I then noticed that I was down from 32 GB RAM to 16 GB very quickly. The machine had also "shut down because of a problem" during that time then restarted and ran for a bit. I repaired the 16 GB RAM by cleaning it, brought it back up to 32 GB again and within minutes it was back to 24 GB. I pulled the RAM cards out and they were hot. The last 8 GB to go were likely the only DIMMs I haven't cleaned yet. I don't know how long that fix will last. Seems like we have a pattern of over heating.
Any ideas? Is it the 667 mhz RAM? The PSU? The fan? (How do you test a fan?)
    Thank you for your time.
    2008 Mac Pro 3,1
2x Quad Core 2.80 Ghz Intel Xeon
    32 GB RAM (667 mhz)
    3 HD's
    10.9 OS Mavericks
    Logic Pro X

First the RAM must be made for your computer as determined by Apple:
    https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-6413
Thus you have an early 2008 Mac Pro if it is a Mac Pro tower and not a MacBook Pro notebook.
The RAM must be either preinstalled by Apple, or from a place that sells lifetime warranty early 2008 Mac Pro RAM.
Just because you got PC6400 DDR2 ECC 800 Mhz FB-DIMM with 256 bit wide memory architecture, as the specs call for,
does not mean the RAM is compatible.  Only RAM stated to be for "early 2008 Mac Pro" is compatible with those towers.
http://www.macsales.com/ (OWC) http://www.datamem.com/ and http://www.crucial.com/ all sell RAM by stating the time of year and model name.
Do not buy ValueRAM.   If after doing that it doesn't work, some directions for other interior repairs exist on http://www.ifixit.com/ and http://www.xlr8yourmac.com/
Check to make sure the circuit your machine is on is giving off the full amp called for by specs and that current is not split to other devices, and you have either a UPC or surge protector power cord that can handle that ampere. If there is any chance the machine was plugged in during a lightning storm, your power supply may be fried even with a surge protector or UPC being there.  No surge protector is 100% lightning foolproof.

  • Mac Pro starts up by itself at 5 p.m.

When I travel, I shut down my Mac Pro. When I get back, it's on. I discovered that it starts itself up at 5 p.m. I don't mean it wakes up from sleep. It starts up from a total shutdown.
This has happened ever since installing Leopard. I deleted the com.apple.AutoWake.plist file from the Library/Preferences/System Configuration folder. I reset the PRAM. It still starts up at 5 p.m.
I never set Energy Saver to automatically start up at a specific time, so it's unlikely to be an old setting that's being remembered. I have not scheduled an app to do some task at 5 p.m. daily.
What else should I look for?

I'm really tired of all the small problems I've been having since upgrading to Leopard. Why do they release something that has so many kinks to fix? Here is the current problem:
My computer starts by itself. No, I don't have it set up to do so. No, I don't have EyeTV. I know it's a software problem related to one of the latest updates. It never happened before, and I didn't change anything other than get the updates.
I will change the iTunes setting to see if that resolves the problem.
    Thanks.

  • Mac pro turned off by itself

i do most of my work on a mac pro (1,1)
and this evening at precisely 8:04pm my mac pro clicked and then turned off
the computer did not shut down, it just turned off
i should note that the click i heard was the same as the one that i hear when i first press the power button to turn it on
attached is console starting from 15secs before 8:04pm
    http://img705.imageshack.us/img705/6112/picture3o.png
my mac is on an APC ups and the power was stable at 8:04pm
    programs running
    mail
    firefox
    remote desktop
    ichat (aim and bonjour)
    internet sharing (to ethernet 2)
any thoughts on what could cause a power off?

    Same here. MacPro 3.1.
ALSO on an APC (Back UPS RS-1500). Woke up yesterday to the sound of it (UPS) beeping, red light on, computer off. Happened today, same way. Checked energy saver settings.
Wasn't using it, so did not hear click.
MacPro starts ok, shuts down ok, sleeps ok.
I had it plugged into a wall socket for two weeks while I configured it. No problems. Only after plugging into to the UPS. This UPS has served well backing up a Dual G5 tower previously.
Battery shows 100%. No heavy periphs (like printers) online.
Had a multimeter in the UPS the first time around and got 122 volts in the line.
    Could it be the UPS?

  • Finder relaunches by itself

Finder keeps relaunching by itself every now and then. I can't run any program or get work done this way. This is the first time this has happened, I searched the net but couldn't find solutions,
I really need help - I am working on a very important project and this problem is not making things easier.
    Thank you all in advance.

Problem solved! I deleted the "com.apple.finder.plist" file and everything worked fine, thank God.

  • Mac Pro ATI5870--uneven fan sound when idling..any thoughts?

I recently had a noise issue with my new Mac Pro with the ATI RAdeon 5870 card. There was a lot of noise when the fans cranked up. Apple techs here in Paris took the machine and said they put it under an Apple analysis and test over night and now the noise that they heard themselves is now gone. They replaced nothing. They repaired nothing. Though I can hear the fan on the graphic card increase in spin noise when it rises above idle, which I presume is normal, it is somewhat better than when they took in the machine for repair. However, when the computer is idling and the graphic card is idling under no load I can now hear more of an uneven fan noise, which is disturbing. It's as if you can hear the fan changing its tone or tonality, moving up and down in tone as it idles.
It's not all of the time, but most of the time when there is no load on the card. Like an uneven humming under lowest fan speed.
Doe anyone else hear this symptom? Is it normal as the fan or bearings are running at their slowest? Everything else so far works ok graphically with the card. (I had a MBP 17 that made noise when idling once and they replaced the two fans in the back and the noise was gone.) I realize this is a high performance graphic card and I do work in a quiet space, but if replacing the card would net me a more even sounding working environment I would risk it. If not, then c'est la vie.
    Thanks for any advice.

Someone else suggested that they heard a similar noise on their Mac Pro but for them it was emanating from the Intake and/or Exhaust fans running on their idle speed of around 599rpm.
