Mac Pro has a DVI or a DVI-D connector? What is the difference?

First of all i am really happy with my Mac Pro, thanks Apple!
Until now i had a old 15 lcd screen, because i could not afford a new one after buying my new Mac Pro.
Now i have enough money to buy 2 17 or 19 inch screens! But i have some trouble with selecting the right one.
I the past i had bought a AGP graphic card (for my G4) with a DVI-D connector. After that i found that it was not possible to connect my "normal DVI" screen too it. So i have to get another graphic card.
So, what connector does my mac pro have? (NVIDIA GeForce 7300 GT)
The specs off the Mac Pro says it has only a DVI connector, not DVI-D, or is it just the same?
I was thinking of one off these models:
- Iiyama ProLite E1700S-B2
--> has a DVI-D connector
- LG Flatron L1752HM-SF
--> has a DVI-D connector
- Iiyama ProLite E481S-W3
--> has a DVI-D connector
Can i connect all these screens to my Mac Pro using DVI-D?
Are there any screens you would specially advice me? I like Samsung, Iiyama or LG. There is no need for really good screens, i am not a video editor or a graphic designer. The screens has te be "relax" for my eyes!
I know it is possible to connect all the screens by converting DVI to VGA, but if it is possible i would prefer to connect it direct by DVI.

I just puchased a LG226WT and it too has a DVI-D
input. So what I understand I can go from the Mac Pro
2.66 to this monitor using simply a DVI-D cable,
right, therefore not having use of Analog. Newbie
question... What is the Analog part of it all?
The analog pins alow the use of a CRT, or other VGA display via a DVI to VGA adapter. ATI boards also use the analog pins for DVI to video adapters.

If you have a little Firewire adaptor, everything should work fine. It does on my system.

Mac Pro has slowed to a crawl - Please Help Me!

For some time now my Wireless or Wired Internet connection using my Mac Pro has slowed to almost nothing. For example, This page took 5 mins to load and now Internet use has become unusable.
I feel its my Mac Pro because all other Apple Computer run very fast wirelessly. I have (2) New iMac's (1) Apple TV and (1) Apple iPhone. All stream and surf the Internet blazingly fast.
My Mac Pro is constantly being redirected to other sites (mostly **** related) and a huge amount of Pop ups (even though pop ads are disabled in Safari). All Internet browsers perform the same on my Mac Pro or ANYTHING Internet related including WoW, Software updates or even iTunes Music Down loads.
I really feel that in some way (which is shocking) I am infected with "something" that is making my computer crawl on the Internet. Redirection of websites is just now very aggravating.
I am looking at the (2) Original Disks that came inside the Mac Pro Box. I'm seriously considering wiping my system clean and starting from scratch.
I currently hold NOTHING on my Factory 320GB HD other than programs.
I have installed (2) 1TB drives and created a RAID slice thus creating a single HD icon on my desktop that reads 1.8TB. Thats is where all my Music, Photos, and Movies reside.
My question is....
When I wipe my system will that RAID be broken? Will I lose everything on those 2 drives or will using the restore CD's leave all that information in tact?
Please let me know before I proceed.

Your RAID won't be touched. But back it up today if you haven't yet!
I use Firefox for security with noscript and some other filters, but I also hardened the router firewall to manually block services, ports and add rules - both incoming and outgoing.
You might want to look at LittleSnitch or NetBarrier and do some logging.
I've seen/heard where older routers and modems were fine, but not with Mac Pro or with Intel Macs in general and needed to be replaced or firmware updated. Problems with the latest updates for Airport have been seen by some, and worth checking into - on forums, news sites or hit google.
And of course check what processes are getting loaded and run; manually delete caches, history, metadata, even the bookmarks cache.

There are issues with fake Flash updates; normal sites (like CNN) suffering from SQL-injection. Best to run with javascript off for now.
Might want to look into ClamXav and other malware protection. But I would switch and see how Firefox and Opera behave. And turn off java, script, and plug-ins while you consider your options and try to find out why.

My mac pro has died, how can I see my emails on my macbook

My Mac Pro has died. I intend to get it repaired, obviously, but I need to see my emails from the many years of emails archived on its undamaged hard drive. I have removed the hard drive and connected it to my macbook using a USB carrier. I can find myself under the users, but the library file where the mail folder is kept remains hidden, so I can't copy it across.
What can I do to get my emails useable again immediately?
I posted this before but on a Macbook discussion and got no useful reply.
It surely is possible to do this isn't it?

In Finder select Go, then hold the option key.
You will now see Library. Select it and navigate to Mail.
emails are in V2 Folder

Memory Leak in Mac Pro. My Mac Pro has 16 GB memory

The memory (as shown in the Activity Monitor) goes from a high of approximately 11 GB free memory to a low of approximately 50 MB. The leaked memory seems to be going to "Inactive". When the memory is on the low end, the Mac Pro is very slow, sometimes freezing for several seconds. Does anyone know what the problem could be?

An update to my original discussion message. Now the Mac Pro has some extreme lag times when accessing programs, deleting files, copying files, etc. This occurs even when the free memory as shown in the Activity Monitor is high (over 8 GB). If anyone has an idea of how to correct this problem, please let me know.

Run Disk Utility > Repair ... (not just repair permissions) while booted from another drive. If you have a stronger utility like Disk Warrior, that would be even better.
If you find that the ONLY way you can do this is by booting from the DVD, The Hatter recommends you establish an emergency drive or partition on a drive other than the Boot drive and use that in the future. It makes emergency Repair, backup, and cloning much easier.

try runniing Apple hardware test
reseat risers and dimms
test wtih half memory
do not use your normal system for now - it is probably corrupt and can lead to more issues
try a clean system w/o any 3rd party anything, divers, cables, devices
rather common for fb-dimms to fail and go bad, luck, other than apple, they carry lifetime warranties

anyways, you could try either twistedmelon or a bluetooth presentation remote (targus or Kensington,maybe logitech.
I think i've done enough here....just fyi, bluetooth on a mac pro desktop isn't great....
getting a dongle for that might be helpful.....

F10 is usually the function key on MacBook Pro's. You might have accidentally touched it. Hit it again, and the sound will return.
Also, I hope you're not actually using OSX 10.5.1. You should get all the security and performance updates to protect your Mac.

My late 2013 six core Mac Pro has a lot of dust within it and it is bugging me. Is there a way i can clean it or sort it out?

I have two cats that shed very fine black fur. After a couple of weeks of use, I noticed a build up on the intake slots of my Mac Pro (late 2013).
1. cut a piece of 1/4" hardboard / mdf / plywood into 7" circle.
2. get some very fine mesh, 'no-see-um' screening. Cut a piece into a 12" circle.
3. lay the screening on the table, lay the mdf in the middle of the screening, set the Mac Pro in the middle of the mdf.
4. stretch a narrow rubber band around the Mac Pro, just below the connector cut out
5. working around the Mac Pro, pull a portion of the rubber band away from the Mac Pro, tuck in the screening, until the whole outside edge of the screening is under the rubber band
6. the slightly larger diameter of the mdf circle keeps the screening away from the Mac Pro intake slots
Every couple of months / weeks vacuum the screen.

Mac Pro has dual Amd video cards installed, and does not offer Nvidia cards with Cuda in this line up, as far as I can tell. The iMacs offer nvidia cards which seem a better choice for Premiere Pro which uses the cuda rendering capabilities. Which would be best for Premiere Pro? The iMac is an "all-in-one" computer similar to an HP Envy, or HP Touchsmart.

These are an "all-in-one" machine, where the CPU (central processing unit), mainboard, and graphics display adapter are all embedded onto one board, and it is built-in to the monitor display case.
So you just have what looks like a "thicker" monitor on your desk and your keyboard connects to this "all-in-one" computer. (and actually the newest 2012 iMacs are not really that "thick" at all, and it does look pretty nice/thin/sleek).
The disadvantage to an "all-in-one" is that it's not easily upgradeable. You can't change out the graphics cards, or install new PCIe expansion cards (faster network cards, RAID adapter, etc.), can't add extra internal hard drives (i.e. 4 internal hard drives), etc.
The Mac Pro is a standalone computer. It requires an additional monitor/display. The advantage of having a Mac Pro is that it is upgradeable (you can get more powerful graphics cards in the future if you need better 3D rendering power) and it has far more memory slots, so it can be expandeable to I believe 128GB of RAM (whereas I believe the iMac might be 32GB of ram?)

Also the iMac is a much thinner device, and you can't separate the display from the CPU (they are an "all-in-one" device) so you can't upgrade or change the primary display, but you can add a second display).
With the Mac Pro, you can add additional graphics cards, and you can power up to twelve displays (if you wish). You also have a much more powerful processor on the Mac Pro (one quad-core, or up to two 6-Core Intel Xeon processors). So the Mac Pro a much more powerful machine.
The iMac is just a nice cute/thin desktop display (all-in-one), but with a quad-core processor it's still a fairly fast/decent machine.
If you are doing heavy 3D graphics rendering or gaming, or graphics design (3D CAD, etc.) then I would probably go with something more powerful like a Mac Pro, since you can get better graphics cards, and the Mac Pro will run much cooler (as you're trying to do massive rendering).

No, you don't need an iMac for a Mac Pro (they are two separate and different computers), but yes you do need an external monitor display if you buy a Mac Pro.
Any 1920x1080p monitor/display with an HDMI input will be sufficient for using with a Mac Pro.
