Mac pro jumping pixels on cinema display

Anyone ever seen the attached pixel issue ?
I thought it was hardware but, not sure if i start Quicktime and click record screen the screen snaps back to normal and stays good for 4-5 minutes
same result if i change the color calibration
I hooked up my MBP to the cinema display, no issues at all.
Help

Glad to hear you are handy with testing... all the more reason to have various system partitions (10.9.1 as is, 10.9.2) whatever you have found that works for you so you don't have to do system restore or move systems around.
... reading that Apple Stores don't have FCP 10.1+ on their demo machines (yet) and it well, makes them look bad, let alone take advantage of the nMP capability.
Between 9.2 and the update to 10.1 today, it is a moving target.
I had issues with mouse and  the system was running but the mouse was not, and my contact wanted to put blame everywhere but where it was. I have a box and new mice, kb and such and USB hubs seem capable of putting noise into system and corrupt  nvram at times.
Have not read if resetting SMC has changed but maybe try a simple zap PRAM from cold start is in order. I had a PCIe card, an SSD (that may have been dying) that made for the most difficult "gremlin" to ever live in my system and defy troubleshooting or cure for months.  I couldn't even ZAP PRAM properly at one point. And seemed to be a mouse/kb related issue even to this day.

  • Four monitor setup on 2013 mac pro using old 23" Cinema Displays

My current monitor setup on a 2009 mac pro is four monitors.  Three 23" Apple Cinema Displays (aluminum, mid 2000's) and one large Sony HDTV mounted to the wall as a fourth monitor.
I achieve this via 2 Geforce 120 video cards, each with a mini display port and a Dvi port each.
My question is, can I retain this same exact monitor setup on a new 2013 Mac pro cylinder?  If so, what adapters will be needed, and do they all plug into the thunderbolt ports?
Hearing all kinds of nightmares about multiple monitor problems with the new MP so want to be sure this will work before I drop big bucks.
    Thanks!

    Thanks for the quick reply!
For the Tv I'm currently going VGA out of that to a Dvi adapter into the old Mac Pro.  The 3 Cinema Displays are all ether direct Dvi to the video card and two I have to use a Dvi to mini display port adapter.
So for the new Mac Pro, assuming I don't use the HDMI port, I would need Dvi to minidisplayport adapters for each of the 3 cinema displays and a VGA to minidisplayport for the TV?
EDIT: And the mini display ports may as well all be active I guess, and they need to plug into the usb bus for power?
    Thanks

  • How to connect a mac pro A1186 to 27" cinema display

Hello! Trying to connect a newer display to older mac pro.
Have a mac pro A1186, want to connect it to a 27" Cinema display. Any way to do this? I've read that there needs to be a female-mini-to-male-dvi converter, and that those don't exist?
    Any suggestions or help?
    Thank you!

    Hello,
A new graphics card wouldn't be a bad idea; but if you don't want to go this route, I know from experience that the Altona DVI to Mini DisplayPort Converter works all right. It is discontinued now, but I'm sure a few of them can still be had through eBay or another similar source. I bought and used one to connect a 2006 Mac Mini to a 27" Cinema Display a while back. Hope this helps.

  • Does the new mac pro support the Apple cinema display

Does the new mac pro support the Apple cinema display

There is no 2007 23" Cinema Display
There is a 2002 23" display that has the Apple ADC connector
    http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/0/09/AppleDisplayConnector.jpg
There is also the 2004 23" display with a DVI connector.
For the latter you just need a mini display port to DVI connector that plugs into the Thunderbolt port
For the former you need that connector plu an DVI to ADC connector

  • 09 Mac Pro with Apple 24 Cinema Display or Another Display?

Is the 24 inch Apple Cinema Display the best choice for Final Cut Studio 2 on a new Mac Pro or is there a better non-Apple choice?

I have Cinema Displays on my current setup and like them a lot, never had an issue with pixel response time. When it's time to replace them, I will not be buying the new Cinema Displays, but that's just because I don't like glossy monitors.
Consider also that FCP presents a low-res proxy image to better use resources for real time playback. To truly assess the picture quality an external pro monitor is required, or at the very least an excellent consumer TV.

  • Mac Pro boot sound on Cinema display

    Hey guys,
Is it possible to run the Mac pro boot sound on my cinema display instead of the Mac pro's build in speakers?
My macbook sounds more agressive than that Mac badboy .
    thanks!
    -Sam

I think this has been a problem since the beige G3 and an early speaker-equipped Mac display.
The startup chime is produced long, long before the display is configured to accept the data and make it into speaker noises. It is near impossible to make the startup chime come out the display speakers.

  • No video on Mac Pro 266 + 20" Apple Cinema Display + ADC to DVI Adapter

When I boot my Mac Pro, I don't get a video signal. I currently have a 20" Apple Cinema Display (clear case) connected via an ADC to DVI adapter. I have connected the monitor/adapter on a Powerbook G4 wihout any issues, which rules out the monitor. I've tried everything: resetting PRAM/NVRAM, motherboard reset button, unplugging everything...nothing works.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Are you guys using the ADC to DVI adapter or the DVI to ADC adapter?
I have a clear 23" cinema display and I was thinking of getting a new Mac Pro... From what I can tell, you need the DVI to ADC adapter that sells for $100+. Is that correct?

  • Mac Pro doesn't drive Cinema Display at startup

Config: Mac Pro 2.66GHz 2006 with ATI Radeon Graphics Card, Apple Cinema Display 23".
Recently at startup I've had intermittent problems with lighting up the ACD. Sometimes restarting worked. This started immediately following an especially rough Tasman Sea crossing from New Zealand to New Caledonia - we have some severe underwing slams aboard our 52-ft catamaran.
I removed the ATI Radeon, cleaned all the contacts, then reseated the card. Voila - graphics again! A few days later I'm again seeing no graphics at startup.
The ACD seems to be 100%, I am driving it as I write with my MacBook Pro. ACD also works with Apple TV.
Any suggestions would be much appreciated - we are in a remote area of New Caledonia, Ile des Pins, where there are no Apple service options.

Uh-oh. I returned from a trip to find my Mac did not chime on powering up the other day. Just now it didn't wake from sleep after dinner. It finally restarted after I held the power button for a while, but again no chime, although I do have the white apple/grey screen that you're talking about.
    It's not looking good.
Verify Disk found no issues. I was kind of hoping it was from the recent update with the Mac App Store, somethign that would be fixed with the next update.
Looks like it could be a hardware issue even though this thing is just 21 months old.

  • Mac Pro - Windows 7 - Apple Cinema Display

Hi -- after years of not installing Windows on a separate drive, I finally did it. The install went failrly well, wireless devices work in Windows 7. My remaining issue is that Windows 7 doesn't seem to recognize the Apple Cinema Display (ACD) with the Mini Display Port. If I switch to a different DVI monitor, the display seems fine. However, if I go back to the ACD, the display shakes upon boot up, and the resolution, screen size in off and a generic display is seen in the Control Panel. Sometimes, it does recognize the ACD, which is weird, but never on boot up.
Is the only solution running a DVI adaptor and not using the ACD with the Mini Display Port? When I first installed the BootCamp drivers, it seemed to work, but there were a few updates afterwards, and it seems that I lost whatever had stabilized the issue.
    Thanks!

There was someone complaining about using two VGA monitors on 2010 w/ ATI 5770.
There is an improved dual display support now in Windows 8. Windows 7 was always "where is my screen" on startup. The video port close to the motherboard seems to be A or primary that it looks for on startup.
I have 23" ACD (2006 unit) Mac Pro but always used GTX, no ATI card (well recently I was using Windows only and an ATI 6790 or something).
And of course you must have installed ATI (Windows own drivers are iffy or "okay" but not the best.
Apple drivers for Windows (aka "Boot Camp" 3.x or Lion's 4.01) include driver support for the ACD.
You say MDP and 4870 in profile, but I didn't think Apple's 4870 had one, and flashed PC cards always have trouble (unflashed 4870 would of course work as normal as can under Windows).
Rollback update of driver is one step. Run Driver Sweeper 3.2 and CCleaner (and clean the registry) to get the graphic driver installed and 'clean.'
Patch Tuesday can always affect a few systems and a problem but more likely a conflict with something else.
One at a time see if you can get new graphic driver to help.
Wtih the 5770 Apple tech note does mention not using adapters.
And don't allow Windows to provide gpu driver if it asks

  • Mac Pro and Lucite 23" cinema display turns all white when starting up the

I have a friend that has a 2.6 MacPro and a ADC 23" cinema display with adapter. When ever he starts the computer the screen turns all white and locks ups ? Any ideas what's causing it ?

Try Resetting the PRAM (Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R on start-up), some of the basic monitor parameters are stored there, maybe it'll be enough, and its an easy and harmless procedure.

    Hi,
Create a play list that you wish to burn. Select playlist, the file from main menu which gives to an option to burn the playlist. A pop up box appears allowing you to select burn speed and disc format.

  • Mid 2009 13" MacBook pro mini-dp to Cinema Display screen jumps from blue to desktop

I'm using a kanex brand iAdapt mini-dp to dvi adapter to connect my macbook pro to my 23" cinema display from early 2007, but it seems like the macbook is having trouble recognizing that the display is connected. The screen will go blue for a second, then show the desktop, then go back to blue. it repeats like this for as long as the adapter is plugged in.
I've gotten the screen to connect properly twice, but as soon as I unplug my laptop and try to plug it back in another day, I run into the same issue as before. I've seen other discussions about screen flickering, but this isn't really a flicker. Not sure if anyone else has experienced this, though it seems likely that this has happened before.
    Any solutions? Thanks!

be sure you are not confusing "AirPlay Mirroring" and Display Mirroring.
AirPlay Mirroring is not supported in that Model Mac, only in Macs with Intel integrated graphics:
About AirPlay Mirroring in OS X
Your Mac does support Mirroring of displays, and always has. The settings for this are in:
