Mac Pro Late 2010 Windows 7 - no rear usb ports

I recently purchased a new Mac Pro 12 core and put 12GB of RAM in it. I have been having nothing but trouble with Windows 7 from day 1. I have used Boot Camp in the past and have successfully installed XP on my MacBook Pro, my quad core 1st gen Mac Pro, and the first gen intel Mac Mini. I have had no issues whatsoever.
I avoided Vista altogether because of the horror stories I kept hearing about but W7 was highly recommended to me by people who have it installed on their Macs. I have had zero productivity in Windows since the purchase of this new machine and it has been a huge regret. I have done 3 successive re-installs and keep coming up with the same problems. To give you some more info of what I have tried: Each time I install, I use the boot camp assistant app (in the Utilities folder) on the mac side, install my purchased copy of windows 7 64-bit, then once it's installed I put the Mac OS installer disc back in and let it install all the boot camp drivers (3.1). Finally, I go straight to the apple site and download boot camp 3.2. Everything seems cool except...
The 3 USB ports on the back of the machine as well as the top USB port on the front of the machine are completely disabled. Whether I have something plugged into the back or not, the ports do not work, however, I need to plug things in for the problem to show itself in the Device Manager in W7. (USB Root Hub (2 ports) - - Unused Port - - *UNKNOWN DEVICE*
Not only is this a total hit to not be able to use those ports, but this 'malfunctioning device' is causing the blue screen of death each time I try to shut down Windows. (the USB device... the hub itself?? nothing plugged into it)
I have also been trying to download a very large piece of software in Windows 7 and the main download is almost 2 hours. Since I've never actually sat down and watched the bar go by for that long, I never see when it happens... but I'll come walking back into the room and the computer is sitting there as a Mac!! What the ****?! Without warning!
I'm fried from this. Been eluding me since I got this computer. I'm about to just install the 32 bit XP... take the speed hit and be done with it! Unless somebody out there can help me with this problem.
Any additional information I can give you about what I've seen and what I've done is here. All of these problems exist only in Windows. The Mac side of this computer works perfectly in all areas.
I've seen the error message: Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems(code 43)
Windows did not shut down properly (Get this error every time at startup)
I tried deleting registry files (really bad... had to completely repair W7... then did my 3rd re-install)
Does anybody have any idea of what is going on here?

Thanks Hatter. I have thought about a lot of this stuff in my trials and I'm still at a roadblock. A few things to note:
I agree that W7 Pro is needed for this machine. You had mentioned something about an electric ISO but I purchased the actual discs from Best Buy and have gone through the entire installation process a few times now. I forgot to mention in my original post that there is nothing 'cracked' in terms of software anywhere on this machine. Every single thing is legit and in most cases, coming from original discs.
I was hoping to avoid having to put Windows on a separate HD because then it would mean one less internal storage bay for my video storage drives (on the Mac side). Plus there's no guarantee that putting W7 on a separate drive will not produce the same results with the hardware (although I AM going to try this method... just to see if it clears up the hardware problem.) Rolling with this configuration long-term will be an absolute last resort thing but certainly not off the table. (I'll let you know if it works or not.)
For now, Windows 7 runs through boot camp on my new Mac pro. I have only 1 active usb port on the front (the lower one) which I use exclusively for keyboard and mouse... no choice. All other usb ports dead. All firewire ports seem to work fine. The machine also crashes on every shut down (sometimes with a blue screen... sometimes not) and reminds me about it on every successive startup. It also reminds me that windows has disabled a usb device on every startup. This hardware problem seems to periodically cause the machine to shut down and restart as a mac if left unattended for more than a few minutes. Basically, W7 is totally useless to me through boot camp on a boot camp created partition on my Mac boot drive. I will let you know I have success creating a separate hard drive as a Windows partition.
Any additional help is greatly appreciated! This one is really puzzling to me!

Ok, fair enough.  But since Job's death - Apple's control on leaks has been terrible.  I got the new iPhone, and I like it - but it hasn't made nearly as big as an impression as previous ones.  Because of the vast ammount of leaks.  With the iPad mini leaks, it's 99% sure to come out next week.
Apple uses many manufacturers and it's massive also websites prefer to report on Apple whether true or false because it brings more hits.
Amd by "others" I meant other people on iPads - not other devices/manufacturers.  It's possible to do so, I just want to know how.  I honestly don't think we'll ever be in a Post-PC era until all tablets allow us to use USB in the way computers do.
No, USB is not the future, you missed the memo about cloud and wireless computing?

  • How do I traspass my photos from my mac pro computer to a new ipad without usb port?, how do I traspass my photos from my mac pro computer to a new ipad without usb port?

I have a Macpro computer and I want to know how to traspass photos or files to a new ipad model since it has no USB port.
    Thans for your help!

You can transfer photos or documents to your iPad using iTunes. Connect your iPad to your computer using the cable that came with your iPad and sync it with your computer to copy your photos to it.
With documents, you can use iCloud if you have Pages in your iPad. Go to iCloud > iWork and drag your documents in that page

I want to buy a Mac Pro Late 2013 to do Calculation With Boinc (system to give CPU time for university research)
Some Boinc App use OpenCL and calculations are done on the GPU.
The new Mac Pro having 2 video card, will those App  be able to use both GPU ?
I do have some doubt since reading this
New Mac Pros support AMD's CrossFire GPU teaming, but currently only within Windows
    http://appleinsider.com/articles/14/02/07/new-mac-pros-support-amds-crossfire-gp u-teaming-but-only-within-windows
    from the text,
Without CrossFire, apps and games running on the Mac Pro must be custom written to take advantage of the two GPUs. According to AnandTech, Apple has configured the Mac Pro so that "by default, one GPU is setup for display duties while the other is used exclusively for GPU compute workloads."
    Any though ? :-)
    Thank You

Yes, I agree, this is only a home server that I access both at home and when I am on the road.
But I stop calculation when I need to have a web server (rarely :-) .
    if i understand correctly,
you do  700k credits a day on your 2010 MP with the dual Nvidia Quadro K5000s
    and
around 200k credits a day on your 2013 MP with the dual D300
Do you think is it all about driver or cuda vs opencl.

  • Mac Pro 2009-2010 firmware tool

Has anyone tried the Mac Pro 2009-2010 firmware tool hack that is floating around out there? It seems to work with no problems. A cheap way to turn your 2009 quad core into a 2010 hexacore. The price on the Xeon W3680 3.33Ghz Westmere has come down out of the stratosphere into the $500 range. $500 for that kind of speed improvement and the ability to run 1333Mhz RAM seems like a no brainer if one were thinking about upgrading. Have other people tried this?

This is not the place and no I have not heard, if there is/was it would be talked about on MacRumors, netkas or others. And I don't think it would be just firmware update. OWC Turnkey program involves more than just firmware change.
The W33680 was $590 but has gone up (popularity and supply/demand) to $620. Not $500 (though if you sell your cpu later then the out of pocket might be more like $400).

be sure you are not confusing "AirPlay Mirroring" and Display Mirroring.
AirPlay Mirroring is not supported in that Model Mac, only in Macs with Intel integrated graphics:

  • Running 4 screens as one with Mac Pro Late 2013

Hello there, got a Mac Pro late 2013 edition driving 4 60" 1080P screens in a 2x2 configuration.  Trying to make those work as one 4k display.  Was able to get it working to allow us to display a page across all 4 displays.  But have not been able to get a video to display across all 4.  Our current  configuration has also been very finnicky and anytime we move the webpage around, it snaps the window to be full screen across the bottem two displays.
Anyone have any idea's as to how to make this work the way we are wanting to?

"Fullscreen" is a garbage feature ported from IOS and the iPhone, the land of tiny screens and one-at-a-time processing -- AVOID it at all costs.
This will work as long as you stretch a Window across multiple screens, and turn OFF all hints that you want multiple, independent screens.

  • Mac pro (late 2013), Dell UP2414Q and windows8.1 bootcamp

I bought mac pro (late 2013) and Dell UP2414Q.
Monitor is set on DP1.2 and works normally in OS X. I get 4K@60Hz, I can switch to lower resolutions like 1920x1080 and it works.
Then I Installed windwos 8.1 which I need for some testing and I have aproblem here:
When DP 1.2 is enabled, and I switch to 1920x1080 resolution, I get 2 pictures on screen squeezed together - totally useless and I can't work on that.
If I disable DP 1.2 and revert on monitor to DP 1.1 it works normally. But I switch to 4K with only DP1.1 enabled I can get only 30Hz out.
As it seems under OS X I can use any resolution with DP 1.2 enabled, but not in windows 8.1 via bootcamp.
I would really really love to get this working, I tried next things, but nothing worked:
    -update bootcamp support
-update AMD gpu drivers from their web page
I already wrote on Dell forum and I got redirected here on apple forums.

which model  rMBP 13"  or rMBP 15"
the 13 will support it with the latest intel drivers.
the 15 will support it with the latest nvidia drivers.
i have both models and both are working correctly.

  • How Will iMovie Run on New Mac Pro (late 2013)?

Is iMovie v10 ever likely to be upgraded to support the multiple-cores in the new Mac Pro (late 2013) the way Final Cut Pro X does? If not, will a fast iMac run iMovie about as well as the new Mac Pro (late 2013)?

No one here knows what Apples plans are for iMovie?
I think it's fair to say everything will run faster on the new MacPro but I don't think it's a reason by itself to upgrade hardware.
iMovie 10.0.9 runs just fine on my 2010 iMac.

  • How Do I format my Mac Pro Late 2013

the mac pro late 2013 is well known the be equipped with a PCIe SSD .... Will the Erase function in disk utility with one time pass Zeros work or will it damage the drive? Thanks

Zero is the same when using a SSD as doing writes, so basically you just filled the drive which now needs to be restored and used cells "trimmed.:"
Damage, no, but SSDs have spare cells, can manage quite well, and you don't need to try to force it to reallocate cells.
    Clone the drive.
If you play around with Windows and Boot Camp or have created partitions you want to remove and want to start over, you still would not want to zero the drive.

    Hi Grant,
Thanks for taking the time to think about my issue and respond. But I don't see where your response is relevant.
I want to connect two monitors, each via Mini-Display Port, and only one will work at a time. I am not using DVI cables at all. In this article, http://support.apple.com/kb/HT6068, it clearly states that I can connect three monitors via Thunderbolt (mini-display port) as long as they're on different busses. I was doing that, and it didn't work.
What display configurations can I use with my Mac Pro (Late 2013)?
You can connect up to six displays to your Mac Pro (Late 2013) running Windows 8 via Boot Camp. Check the list below to be sure you're setting up your displays in a supported configuration via the HDMI and Thunderbolt ports.
    You can connect:
Six Apple LED Cinema Displays (27-inch) or third-party displays via Thunderbolt. For best results, attach displays to different Thunderbolt busses when possible (see figure below).
Three Apple Thunderbolt Displays (27-inch). Connect only one per Thunderbolt bus (see figure below). Note: You could connect three more LED Cinema Displays (27-inch) or third-party displays, one per Thunderbolt bus, for a total of six displays.
Two Apple Thunderbolt Displays (on Thunderbolt bus 1 and 2) and one 4K Ultra HD TV using HDMI.
Two 4K displays (on Thunderbolt buses 1 and 2) and one 4K Ultra HD TV on HDMI).
