Mac pro locks up when ipod is connected
I have a total of four different ipods connecting, recharging to my mac pro. Only one of them causes a problem - the moment it is connected, my system freezes up. No mouse movement, nothing. All I can do is push-hold the power button to shutdown and turn it back on. Anyone know of a help article to point me in the right direction?
After re-installing iTunes, and doing a full restore on my iPod, I have determined that it was some album cover art that seemed to be causing the problem. The iPod would start to sync, and then hang on one song. Deleted that song, and it synced a little more, and got hung up again on another song from the same album.
I deleted the entire album from my iTunes library, and the iPod synced just fine. I re-ripped the CD in question, this time with out adding ablum cover art, and it worked perfectly.
Now I wonder why iTunes is getting stuck on certian album cover art. The CD in question is Eric Clapton's "Crossroads". iTunes was unable to retreive the album cover art when I ripped the CD [perhaps because iTunes has it listed as "Crossroads (Box Set)"], so I just scanned the cover of the CD and added it that way. I have done this with other CDs, and had no problems what so ever. Anyone have any clue as to why this would happen?

Mac Pro locking up when syncing with my iPod
Mac Pro, 2 gig memory, 3ghz quad, 5th generation iPod:
When trying to sync my ipod, everything seems to work fine, for about 200 files then it either:totally locks up my computer requiring me to press the reset button, or iTunes locks up, can not force quit, at this point can not eject ipod or any CD's in drives - can not log out (hangs) - have to press reset button.
This is what I have tried:
Total reset of ipod (using updater)
sync ipod on my laptop (works fine there) (also, works on my old G5)
Restarted computer
Unplugged all other USB devices.
All updates have been applied.
Did not touch computer while trying to sync. (even held breath)
Seems like an I/O error, but have no clue.
One time when trying, everything seemed ok, but then I noticed the song it was supposedly downloading wasn't changing. ie it was downloading the same song over and over in an endless loop. But mostly it just locks up, as described.
I also notice it takes alot longer to recognize the iPod when first plugging in.
Mac Pro Mac OS X (10.4.7)Yes, same thing happened.
At one point, iTunes was the only responding application. Any other action I tried to take literally took about 20 seconds. It was as if my Mac was in sloooooooo mooooooooootion...but when iTunes was the foreground app, it flew. This all occurred while iTunes was updating my iPod, mind you. You'd think it'd be the other way around, with iTunes being the slow app (it was busy updating my 60GB vPod) and everything else a little slower.
Opened Activity Monitor and iTunes wasn't hogging an abnormal amount of CPU cycles. Also, all that was listed in the 'Kind' column was 'Intel,' so it wasn't a Rosetta issue.
Very strange...eventually had to reboot.
However, this was before I did a clean install of OS X and hand copied the files from my old G4 to my new MP. The first time around when I used Migration Assistant to copy the files is when I had this and other problems.
And don't get me started on Safari...that application has it in for me. It crashed constantly on my G4 and is now crashing on schedule on my new MP. Arrrgggh! -
Itunes locking up when ipod is connected. Firewall problem?
Hi folks. For years I have been running itunes, an ipod touch and NOD32 firewall with no problems at all. But a couple of days ago I connected up my ipod and there is a problem.
itunes launches as you would expect, but it immediately hangs. After a few minutes, it will free up, but the ipod is not visible in itunes. I can see it in Windows and the USB driver is working fine.
If I disconnect the ipod whilst itunes is "stuck", then itunes immediately starts responding properly. So it looks very much like this freezing is caused by itunes hanging on the ipod.
Here's the wierd thing: I have found that if I disable my firewall, the problem goes away. i.e. everything works fine if the firewall is disabled. No lockups and itunes can see the ipod and will happily sync with it.
I really don't see how the firewall can be the culprit though. I didn't think firewalls applied to USB connections??!
I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling itunes and it makes no difference. I have also upgraded from 9.1 to 9.2 and that didn't fix it either.
Any ideas what's going on (And how to fix it?)

ITunes Locks up when iPod is connected
this is weird. I've had my iPod for 3 months now and never had any issue with it or iTunes. All of a sudden, this evening, I plug in my 60gb iPod in to my computer. Then iTunes recognizes my iPod. As long as I am in the "Library" screen it is fine. Then I go to a playlist on iPod or just to browse my iPod and iTunes freezes. I end up having to do CtrlAltDel/end task just to get out of it. I just dloaded and installed the new iTunes + iPod 06.28.06 updates to see if it would fix it, but the problem persists. Anyone have any idea what may be going on? I have no clue.
Thanks,
Joshwow, suddenly it works perfect again. i guess the little iTunes elves in my computer were napping

Itunes will not start when ipod is connected
3G nano ipod when connected to windows xp,, Windows Expoler opens and shows ipod as "M" drive. But itunes starts only when I click icon on my desktop and dose not start when ipod is connected. When itunes runs it sees my ipod and all works fine. I have the box under Devices checked to start itunes when ipod connected. Thanks for your help
Hello Loggroller,
And welcome to Apple Discussions!
Are you talking about the *Open iTunes when this iPod is connected* option from under your iPod's Summary tab? If not, make sure you have this option ticked as well.
It might not hurt to try and remove and re-install iTunes and all Apple related software using these instructions.

When Ipod is connected to Itunes, music that is used to have is listed, but, when disconnected, the ipod appears as if there is no music. Hasn't happened to the movies. Anyone have any ideas?
Since you did not mentioned about sync issues or problem, error messages.
You have to Sync the iTunes library with your iPod.
Refer to this tutorial, on syncing iPod

ITunes does not start automatically when iPod is connected
iTunes used to start automatically when I connected iTunes. It no longer does. Can I fix that?
DaveConnect your iPod and open iTunes. Towards the bottom of the iPod screen, there are four check boxes. The top one says "Open iTunes when iPod is connected." Check that box and click apply. If it is checked, uncheck it and click apply, eject and reconnect your iPod, then recheck it and click apply.

ITunes doesn't start automatically when ipod is connected.
Even though I have clicked on the place that says itunes will start automatically when iPod is connected to pc, it doesn't. I have to click on iTunes everytime, and then it takes a while to run.
Anyone have any ideas what might be the problem?hi joyful!
just checking. reboot the PC, and prior to launching itunes or plugging in the ipod, bring up your Task Manager to the "processes" tab.
is there an iTunesHelper.exe running in your processes?
Background processes installed with iTunes 6 for Windows

Having itunes open when ipod is connected
Nano 4th generation--iTunes always opened when iPod was connected to computer; now it doesn't and going to Devices and scrolling down Summary to "open when ipod is connected" is greyed out and will not allow me to check it. Even going to the iTunes preferences does not offer this selection.
You meant that you can't place a check mark in the check box "Open iTunes when device connected" ?
Just do a little test: Click on Music and see if you can put there a check mark. -
Itunes wont automatically open when ipod is connected
Hello there
basically the above ^^ itunes wont open automatically when ipod is connected ive tried the 5 steps and ive also tried the whole tray and exit thing its not WORKING!
all help much apprciated thanksI have a interesting hunch that somehow Windows is doing something to you...
One thing you might want to see is if within Windows if the iPod service is running... As there are certain services which automatically get installed when itunes is loaded. These notice the device and loads the app..
Just for reference, here are my Windows Services and their status:
Apple Mobile Device - Started & Automatic
Bonjour - Started & Automatic
iPod Service - Started & Manual
I thought that a 4th service existed, but can't find it...
Have you tried uninstalling iTunes and downloading to reinstall it again, that might help.. Or else it has something deeper do to with your computer itself!
That's about all I can offer right now. -
How to "Open iTunes automatically when iPod is connected"....
...without having them sync automatically? I'm able to do this on my MBP just fine. The solution on my MBP is to uncheck "prevent ipods, ipads, iphones from syncing automatically" under Devices Preferences. Then I'm able to check "Open iTunes when Ipod is connected" under my iPod's Summary Options. After that i can then go back a uncheck "prevents Ip.... from syncing automatically".
Unfortunately, this option doesn't seem to be available to Windows users. or is it?
Thanks,
Mikethis will solve half of my issue while coincidentally causing the other half of it.
I want to be able to:
Open iTunes automatically when iPod is connected
AND
Prevent my ipod from syncing automatically *(when this is enabled the prior feature becomes disabled) -
I have a macbook pro 15 retina - when ever I connect to bluetooth speaker, I get this loud noise coming from the speaker - if I turn bluetooth off, the noise is now coming from the macbook speakers & stays until i restart.
Hi John. Thanks for that input. At Step 6, after clicking "Next" I get a window telling me my OS version is unsupported and the installation may not complete. I am prompted to go to Canon's web site to "Check Latest Info".
I've had this window on previous attempts and from Canon's web site I downloaded two drivers as follows
- ICA Driver V4.0.0
- Canon IJ Network Tool V4.5.0
I'm not sure if these are the correct / complete drivers I need for this install or not.
I continue to follow all the steps. At step 9 I click "Wireless Set Up using USB" amd get a License Agreement (a little different than instructions)
I click "Agree" and it goes to a Setup window with two progress bars showing the installation. I've not been prompted to connect the USB?
After the Setup window is done, I am then prompted to connect the printer via USB. I connect the printer and click on "Redetect". It is not detected.
I then try following the Canon on screen instructions for connecting to the wireless LAN amd enter the password. It searches and indicates "Connecting" on the window, but it never connects and the blue light just blinks
So, at this point I am stuck??
Thanks
