Mac Pro not recognising 2 monitors.

I have an oldish MacPro 1.1.  First of all I upgraded it to Lion and had 2 Asus V2424 monitors.  All working fine.  I then got a second hand Apple 30" cinema display.  All still good.
Then because I want to run FCP7 and FCP 10 I decided to install a second operating system to keep everything neat.  I bought a brand new 500Gb hard drive from Amazon and installed the (OS 10.5) discs that came with the computer.  No second screen and the first Apple cinema display had only very basic information in the display section of System Preferences.
I upgraded to 10.6.8 nad still no joy.
So if I restatr on the original operating system all is good.  When I return to the new drive and OS problem is still there.  I can't find anything on the net about this so can anybody out there help me with some advice of things to try please.
Thanks

Sorry if it was confusing.
I replace one of the asus monitors with the 30" Apple display.  The card does have three connections, one dvi and 2 mini display ports but I am only using 2 of them.
If I plug the Asus into the dvi port that screen comes up fine in the rogue operating system.
I have loked at the graphics card in system preferences and it gives all the information on it so I presumed that the drivers were there is this right.  If it isn't were would I look on for the drivers, could find any on on the AMD site.
So it seems that the mini display ports do not seem to work on the newly installed and freshly updated OS.
Any other ideas?
Thanks

  • Macbook pro(2008 later) can not recognise external monitor(NEC UXI2090) with mini-DP to DVI adapter with 9600GT

I bought mini-DP to DVI frome Apple several monthes ago and it worked well in that time until yesterday the external monitor show me no signal sign. Other PCs were connected with the same cable and monitor and they are fine. I am wondering there is something wrong in the adaptor or macbook pro. Furthermore I found the external monitor can display nornally when I switched to 9400 graphic card and used mini-DP to VGA adapter. If I switch to 9600GT no signal again. If I switch 9400 using mini-DVI, it is shown on the external screening: Out of range... In a word, In the mode of 9600GT, mac can not recognise external monitor(I can not detect it in the systerm preference even I press detect display buttun) and 9400 works in VGA mode. However when I connect adapter to mac, the screen showed blue flash.
I reseted SMC, no use; I created a new account or enter mac to safe mode, no use; so far I did not reseted PRAM beacuse of something wrong of my system. I am downlaoding Mountain Lion OS and will install it. Then I will reset PRAM and try again.
I do not know whether I shoud change the adapter or the single-link DVI cable to dual-link. Someone said it is useful in their condition. I tried some methods from BBS, such as connected when devices were off and then open, and so on. I failed.
    Any suggestion for this problem?
    Addition: OS: 10.7.4(Lion)

I turns out that the logic board of my MacBook Pro was faulty (despite being brand new).
I took it to the Apple Store, presented the problem, and one of the Tech's came to the same conclusion that I had -- hardware failure.  Phone support was no help in the matter (and even told me that what I was trying to do wasn't a supported option, which is rediculous).  However, the Genius Bar did take care of the problem, and my MacBook Pro was back to me with a replaced logic board within a few days.
    Hope that htis helps.

  • 10.8.2   Mac Pro 2009   4 Apple Monitors = doesn't keep the display order and configuration. Please Help me!!

Guys i have a Mac Pro 2009 with 4 monitors attached.
Since i upgrade to 10.8, then to 10.8.1 and now to 10.8.2 my Mac Pro every time it starts, cannot remember the order and appearance of my displays so ihave to reorder them every single time.
Can somebody tell me what to do???
Please help me either wise i ma going to burn it!

I have brand new 10.8.2 Mac Tower with two matching video cards ordered from Apple directly and have the same problem. It wont save the display settings and also cant seem to tell which video card is which either.
In addition, the screen display images if loaded from a personal folder, is also not remembered after startup.
Please advise us what to do, Apple!!!! This is urgent for me. I am proifessional user and this machine is for use on live projection shows. We put a ton of money into this machine and it can't even remeber the displays! Not very amusing.

  • Screen dims randomly with Mac Pro - NOT a Macbook

After upgrading to Mountain Lion, my screen will dim randomly when watching movies or YouTube.  This is on my early 2008 Mac Pro - not a Macbook Pro which seems to have this problem commonly.  I've searched and searched and lots of people have this problem with a Macbook Pro (battery saving feature or something) but there are no options to defeat screen dimming that I can find for a Mac Pro!! Mountain Lion just keeps getting worse and worse!
    HelP!

Hello, thanks for taking the time to help me out!
This is a 2008 MacPro (2x2.8 GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon) running Mountain Lion OSX 10.8.4.
I am running two monitors: a HannsG HH281 and a Hewlett PAckard HP w2408h.
When this first was happening back in March 2013, I thought it had something to do with the ambient light sensor on the HP (the HannG doesnt have a light sensor), but it also might have has something to do with the dynamic contrast on the HannsG.  I had shut those features off, and I actually hadn't had this problem in a while and there has been a few Mountain Lion updates since then.
I just tried to reproduce this by turning on/off the dynamic contrast on the Hanns G - did not get the problem
again.  I also just turned the ambient light sensor on for the HP, and again, the problem did not occur.
So it is hard to say if the problem is gone away or not or if it just is not showing itself at the time being?

Sometimes this happens, because the camera is not properly charged. In that case connect the camera to a charger or use a card reader.

  • Why would I get a Sudden Motion Sensor error on a Mac Pro (not a laptop)??

Get this error all the time since upgrading to Logic 9.1.4.  Thing is, I have a Mac Pro, not a laptop.
Apple sends me to this page:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1934
Should I disable sudden motion sensor?  Seems silly.  I am recording woth headphones, there's no movement from the computer.   And again, didn't have this error for 3 years and suddenly I get it after upgrading to 9.1.4?

    9.1.4 seems a bit shaky...
That said, you might try disabling "Sleep" for the drive.
As I recall, it's a generic error meaning the computer either isn't getting a response from the drive or that it can't pull data off fast enough.

  • [URGENT] Mac Pro not booting, Fan error but fans are working.

    Hello,
My server G5 is stuck on grey screen with spinning wheel. I ran the AHT and got the following:
    2FAN/4/8: CPU A INTAKE
All the fans are spinning. I would really really appreciate if I can get any help or advice. I tried searching for this AHT error but could not find anything solid.
This is our main server and its crucial to our organization and I am sweating bullets here.
I reseted memory and unplugged all RAID drives. The three LED on the Logic board are Red, Yellow and Green; Power On, Trickle and Open Firmware respectively.
    Thanks for any help.

Just to say that usually it helps to include the make/model of RAID controllers, whether it is hardware RAID or not. The Mac Pro Apple RAID card IS a PITA and is particular sometimes about drives and its battery reconditioning as well as mounting drives and time to create a hardware RAID5.
When a drive causes trouble it is often though not always because of directory being damaged and OS X can't even inspect to see if there is a system or if it can be mounted.
And because the G5 normally only has two SATA drives, to use three requires a bracket or something else to add drives, like Sonnet G5 Jive. And then a PCI SATA controller with internal ports. But that is just your average SATA controller.
If it was a Mac Pro the thread could and should have been moved to another forum. And you still refer to this as a Mac Pro, not PowerMac. Which leads me to wonder.
Molex y-splitters as needed in a G5 but three yrs for a set of drives, I'd say they were due for backup + erase/initialize and restore. Hopefully you kept them in shape with Disk Warrior during that time (don't rely on just Apple First Aid to maintain and repair/rebuild directories).

  • 2008 Mac Pro sees a second monitor that isn't there.

My 2008 Mac Pro sees a second monitor that isn't there. It's the original ATI 2600 video card, and I'm running Mountain Lion. It says there is a VGA monitor plugged in to the second port, but there is no second monitor. If I connect the cable to the second port on the video card, I get no display at all. This seems like the video card to me, but it started happening after upgrading to Mountain Lion.

    Hi Sylvia's iMac,
Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!
It sounds like you need to reset the administrator password on your computer. Please follow the instructions in the attached article for information on how to complete this process. The article has instructions for Snow Leopard (10.6) and earlier, but there is also a link within the article for assistance in Lion (10.7) or later.

  • Mac Pro not displaying in 1080p

    Hi,
I have a first generation Mac Pro with the ATI x1900xt video card. I recently acquired a Samsung 46" 1080p LCD tv and I wanted to hook the computer up to it. The TV will only accept HDMI or VGA connections. Since my card only has 2x DVI connections, I had an old DVI to VGA adapter which allowed me to connect up to the tv. My computer however does not recognize that this monitor can do 1920x1080 resolution. The closest it allows me is 1400x1050, 1600x1200, 1920x1440.... etc. The aspect ratio on the tv is set to 16:9. After scouring the internet for a while, it seems that other people have no problem hooking a mac mini up to a tv of this resolution on both HDMI or VGA connections, so I am at a loss. Let me know if there is a fix please!
    OS 10.6.3

    Hi,
I have connected my mac to a samsung hd lcd tv using DVI to HDMI. The great news is that the mac recognises 1080p resolution. However i am having problems with quality of picture. The picture just seems off and theres some sort of white distortion around text. I have experimented with different resolutions as well but have the same problem. I cant also see the apple menu at the top.
It seems the frame of the actual screen does not fully fit onto the LCD.
Any possible solutions would be a great help as i am starting to loses sleep over it!!!.
    Cheers all.

  • How can I migrate data to new Mac Pro with only 1 monitor

I am ready to set up my new Mac Pro.  I know how to migrate my files from my G5 using Firewire and making the new computer a target disk.  My problem is, I have only 1 monitor.  Is there an easy way around this, OR of not, can I use my Macbook Pro just a monitor and if so how?

If you make the new computer a FireWire Hard drive, the only thing on its monitor will be the firewire symbol. You don't need a monitor to see that.
But if you did, you could start the new computer up first, look at the firewire symbol, get a warm fuzzy feeling, disconnect the  monitor and plug it into the old computer to make the transfers.

I am not sure what monitor will run on this mac pro bought in Spring of 2007.  Is there any monitor with a built in camera that can be used on this machine?
I have confirmed with apple that it cannot run the LED monitors that apple sells.
suggestions or if you know what monitors I can try to find would be great.  If you need more information, please let me know.  I want to be able to do this right.  Thank you so much.

I know there were many more problems 5 yrs ago with 3rd party monitors and have been some issues in between also.
Apple does have what is needed to use multiple 30 inch displays and the 5770 is pretty mainstream and standard.
It is also about the only card being sold outside ebay and a couple places in case you want to take your chances with Nvidia 8800GT 1st gen model or ATI 4870.
