Mac Pro power off suddenly when remove power cord
hi, i've just got my new apple mac pro from the store fresh for 2 months, and my battery cycles have been only 13.
just now when i accidently uplug my powercord, it shut downs instantly, i'm so worried about this, i'm having a final exam in 2 weeks, and if it keeps happened like this i'm gonna be so unhappy.
is this a serious problem, anyone getting this ?
can i change it to new one at the store ?
I'm in Melbourne, Australia
That certainly isn't what should happen — the machine should instantaneously and seamlessly switch over to battery power when the MagSafe plug is disconnected, unless the battery is drained or dead. What was the state of your battery when this happened?
Please test again, with your battery fully or partially charged, the machine running, and no documents open. Disconnect the MagSafe connector properly by holding the plug and tipping it downward until the electrical contact is broken. Does the machine shut down or keep running? Post back with results.

I am having MacBook Pro 3 yrs old and today while I was watching some movie on it suddenly it got power off and when I am trying to start it, it's power button is not working even the round button on external left side is not showing battery lights. But when I connect it to chrger then Charger only gives green light and even the external round button only shown 4 green lights (if charger connected). I don't know what to do now
Sounds like you need a #1SMC Reset
1. SMC reset
>>Instructions to reset SMC
Disconnect other non-Apple and external hardware except (if applicable) a mouse and keyboard until your finished repairing your machine.
Problems solved: Fans blowing with no activity, machine is not booting, power button pressed and nothing happens, problems with indicators, Magsafe has wrong lights, battery is not charging, monitor and graphics issues etc. If the battery is not charged (from like letting it sleep too long), let the Mac charge up awhile afterwards.
Will not hurt the machine resetting if it's not broken.
Other related hardware problems (optional):
Check battery status: Hold option/alt key down while clicking on the battery icon in the menu bar, top right corner.
Magsafe: Use the correct/matching power supply charger with your Mac, not a less powered one from another Mac.
Apple: Laptop won't power up Apple: Computer won't power up Troubleshooting optical drive

Try a SMC reset:

Follow directions for a battery you should not remove yourself. -

Roy from maldenHi Roy, this has worked for a few...
Make a New Location, Using network locations in Mac OS X ...
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2712
10.7 & 10.8…
System Preferences>Network, top of window>Locations>Edit Locations, little plus icon, give it a name.
10.5.x/10.6.x/10.7.x instructions...
System Preferences>Network, click on the little gear at the bottom next to the + & - icons, (unlock lock first if locked), choose Set Service Order.
The interface that connects to the Internet should be dragged to the top of the list.
Instead of joining your Network from the list, click the WiFi icon at the top, and click join other network. Fill in everything as needed. -
My Mac Pro (2006) has suddenly stopped sending signal to the display monitor.
My Mac Pro (2006) has suddenly stopped sending signal to the display monitor. It coincided with plugging in an Epson printer via usb - while the system was running. Pretty dumb maybe? Could I have damaged the video card? Anyone ideas? Thanks
Howdy Le Batch,
I was looking into the issue you are seeing here, and came across a helpful article for this specific situation. It's named Apple computers: Troubleshooting issues with video on internal or external displays and can be found here:
When using an external display be sure to check the following:
If you're using an Apple notebook, confirm the AC power cable or adapter is securely connected to the computer and the cable providing power to the display is also secure. It is always good to have your notebook connected to AC power when an external display is in use.
Confirm display adapters are fully seated in their respective connections and that they are supported models and for the computer and display. Refer to these articles to assist you with adapter compatibility and further configuration information:
Monitor and Display Adapter Table
About Mini DisplayPort to HDMI adapters
Apple Mini DisplayPort adapters: Frequently asked questions (FAQ)
Thunderbolt ports and displays: Frequently asked questions (FAQ)
Remove all display cable extenders, KVM switches, or other like devices and retest to determine if the issue is resolved.
If more than one video adapter is in use—or "daisy-chained"—troubleshoot by using only one adapter.
Example: A mini DisplayPort to DVI adapter connected to a DVI to HDMI adapter is an unsupported configuration because there is a series of adapters in use.
If available, try using a different display and or adapter (or use a different connector by using DVI instead of VGA, for instance).
Reset the system
You can reset the Mac's parameter RAM and SMC.Reset the resolutionStart by resetting the Mac's parameter RAM. If the display does not come up, was previously set to an unsupported resolution, and still results in no video:
Start up in Safe Mode.
From the Apple () menu, choose System Preferences.
Choose Displays from the View menu to open the preferences pane.
Select any resolution and refresh rate that your display supports.
Restart your computer.

Can a Mac Pro boot off a MacBook Pro in Target Disk Mode?
Summary: "Are you able to boot a Mac Pro off of a Mac Book Pro in Target Disk Mode?" OR "Will a Mac Pro boot off an OS X install that was made on a MBP?"
Details:
I'm finishing a music project that was created on a PPC G5 Quad computer and going to a studio in Santa Monica to complete the final mixdown. My 3rd party software plug-in configuration is unique, and the studio doesn't have all of the software instruments that I do on their 8 core mac pro. My G5 software installation is mirrored to my MacBook Pro, but the MBP doesn't have enough CPU power to play the project back.
Is it feasible to have the studio's 8 core Mac Pro boot from my MacBook Pros hard drive? Essentially, we'd be using my OS and software on their powerful CPU / hardware. I figure, since they are both Intel builds of OSX, this should be do-able.
I don't have access to the Mac Pro until I show up to start working.
Thanks for any input / suggestions! The MacBook Pro boots fine in 10.5.8, and loads the Logic project without any faults. The only issue is that a CPU shortage occurs when you attempt to play the sequence.
Like you suggested, I performed separate UB installations of all the needed software on the MBP solely so I could move Logic projects from one computer to the next without a hitch. (Actually, DropBox does this for me). Migration assistant was not employed in this process due to the PPC / Intel issues you noted.
I didn't need to mention the G5 as it appears to have caused some confusion based on Kappy's reply, but I did want to explain my work flow thoroughly.
It sounds like booting the MacPro from my MBP is feasible. I'll mark this topic 'solved' and head over to the studio tonight. I'll post here any anomalies from the session (if any).
THANKS~! -
Buzzing Sound While Mac Pro is off
I just noticed a very low bizzing sound coming from my mac pro. It occurs when the machine is actually off. Is this something to be concerned about? Do others have this very low sound coming from the computer while its off?
PSU first likely suspect I guess.
Also insure that if you have a UPS, that it is above 1000VA, also related to problems.
Mine causes a hum when in use, trouble is, that even after shutdown, my ears still ring (sounds like 100s of chirping crickets or just plain "tingling ears" that won't go away for hours once it starts.
Hard drives have often been able to set the whole metal case to some kind of hum or discordent clash of vibrations. -
My Mac Pro shuts off after entering my log in information
My mac pro shuts off when my log in information is entered after about thirty seconds or so.
Hello again,
it seems I have solved the problem myself. In system preferences, Security and Privacy, General, I deselected Ask for a password after … minutes …. Now the computer goes to standby normally, and of course does not ask for a password any more after waking. I still do not understand why choosing this option should make putting into standby impossible.
I hope this finding can be of service to other users.
Goodbye. -
Every hour or two I have to power off my 6 then power on in order to have internet and mail service. Is anyone else having this problem
This question was posted earlier and has disappeared...however I am having the same issues. Any way to solve this?I'm having the same exact issue. I have the same phone/OS. Just switched from AT&T to Verizon so I wasn't sure whether it was my service or the phone. The same connectivity issues are happening to me with things like My Fitness Pal or Facebook notifications. Fitness app won't load or connect and for Facebook, I'll get a notice that I have one, I go to FB and it won't load the notifications or even load new stories on there for that matter. So AGAIN, I have to restart and POOF! I can use FB, Fitness App, etc AND I have 20 emails all of a sudden. So frustrating!

Under Snow Leopard I used a WD My World NAS to back up my Mac Pro (Mid 2010). When I upgraded to Lion I am unable to access the backup because the NAS does not yet support AFP. I have now bought a Time Capsule and want to transfer the old backup onto it.
How can I recover the NAS back up to put on my new Time Machine.
Talking to Apple Support Adviser was a waste of time on case number 239647273
Any thoughts or pointers?Keep the old OS around and just kick the tires and test new OS. Apple has a history and habit of breaking support in things like this.
You can use TimeMachine as one level of backup, and even there there were changes with Lion, I would always recommend foremost backup clones of every volume. And clone (SuperDuper etc) can be stored on something like HP NAS Media Server which also was supporting TimeMachine, iTunes - until Apple made that harder and more their own proprietary format.
Apple AirPort Time Capsule Support
Lion Communities
Cloning as a Backup Strategy
Rather than "upgrade" I would clone the system, and do a clean install, then allow Setup Assistant to import your files.
