Mac Pro refresh 2011?

When are we going be allowed to have a new Mac Pro 2011 with Thunderbolt and SATA 3? The current available models are by today's standards antiquated!
So, while we have daily leaks about new iOS stoof, we hear nothing of a refresh. What gives?

You have me, MPG gave OCZ 2010 quality a thumbs down, they seem to be doing very well this year. A PCIe card would be elegent. And when Revo cards I read failing (check Newegg) seemed the company took care of customers.
If Apple used higher end SATA 2 they could have 1.2Gb already, but they seem to use lower bandwidth chips and dropped bandwidth even lower than it was, it never was "300MB/sec for each SATA port" to begin with.  OWC hopes to have their own PCIe "someday", but until then, as soon as something looks too good to be true, something new turns up.

This year's SSD 6G's need a good solid reliable controller and firmware, and interface chip controller as well.  Here we are and it is August and I have felt that the industry isn't fully there, yet. Inching closer.
Remember your SCSI array? Today you can have 24GB RAM and not need $2K investment. Only now you want the next $2K array, this time based on SSD and able to deliver 1GB/sec. So in a way, the more things change, the more they stay the same.
it is a system, a total package, the PCIe 3.0 has to be there to handle more bandwidth hungry interfaces like SATA6 and 8, TB, wider memory path. When you find a system built with PCIe 3.0 lanes, you know we reached the next plateau.

I have a MAC Pro from 2011 currently running MAC OS 10.9.5.  This weekend I cloned the MAC HD drive to a new SSD drive for improved performance.  The clone was completed successfully with no errors.  After the clone completed I successfully restarted my system using the SSD as the boot device.  I then successfully tested all of my products, including Photoshop CS6 and all of its plug-ins.  I successfully tested the key features that I frequently use.  Today while attempting to launch Photoshop CS6 a message is being displayed indicating that a scratch disk cannot be found.  All drives are available on the system via the Finder and Disk Utility.  I can access all drives including the old MAC HD which is no longer the boot device.  I've even attempted to launch Photoshop from the old device yet the same error persist.  Is there a way to review/edit/change Photoshop preferences if Photoshop doesn't launch?  I've even restarted my system several times to see if that would resolve the issues.  Does anyone have any recommendations for this issue?  Have you previously address this issue?
    Thank you Gregg Williams

  • Mac pro fall 2011 won't start

While using my macbook, I noticed that the computer was operating slower than usual.  Then, the finder "crashed unexpectedly".  I was unable to relaunch the finder and as a result, all of the other programs went unresponsive.
I turned the computer off and rebooted in safe mode.  I got to the log in screen, still operating incredibly slow, and was forced to shut down due to unresponsiveness.
Now, I am still trying to reboot the computer.  It automatically is trying safe mode.  I can't get past the spinning wheel.
    Thoughts?
    Andrew

More common than I like for my taste the issues surrounding OWC PCIe SSD.
There is always more to using an SSD than meets the eye, corruption of the system on OWC use to be rather common, not sure  how it is today but some have tried to get a new controller.
You should be of course in contact iwth OWC support. And check - I saw this here:
    http://forums.macrumors.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1
Maybe be hard to find but search should help. Sonnet has their own PCIe card which is cheaper and allows using any SSD you want.
Using SSDs in a RAID adds to the problems. And contrary to OWC's statements, TRIM driver support is very important.
With an SSD, you always need to have a backup image, I'd have a hdd partition to use, and a sparse disk image, and ready to restore 'as needed.'
Odd that using these PCIe for data do not pose the problems and corruption that they have as a system.
Also, support for booting PCIe SSD cards is best in 2010, fine in 2009, more iffy with 2008 (and in 2008 are you using PCIe 2.x slot or the 1.1 slots makes a difference). The way the 2008 is designed makes it harder to support PCIe controllers, and then you have 64-bit drivers in ML.

  • TS2951 Is there a way to make a dvd Boot Start Up Copy for Lion 7.4.1 ? on a MAC PRO 2011

    Hello,
Is there a way to make a dvd Boot Start Up Copy for Lion 7.4.1 ? on a MAC PRO 2011 ? I only have the Newest
Lion Thumb Drive 7.0 and will not allow me to ever Reinstall my MAC.  Which I like to do from time to time....
Is the Thumb Drive Suppose to reinstall the entire computer or just upgrade ?  Apple Store does not know what
level each customer is at so the Thumb Drives must Totally Start from Scratch.
It worked Once in Nov a Month after I Bought the MAC PRO in 2011 by customer care telling me to Hold down the Option Key When I Turn on the MAC ?  I hope That is Correct.
SO WHAT I AM REALLY WANTING TO KNOW ABOUT MACS IS CAN YOU MAKE A BOOT DVD and NOT with Time Machine or an External Hard Drive.

  • Deciding between iMac and Mac Pro

My current desktop computer (a PC) is basically dead. It is under extended warrenty but the custom build place I got it from tells me nothing is covered (because of their negligence but they won't admit that) And basically they want me to pay out of pocket for a brand new computer.
However after having a Macbook Pro for a year and loving it I decided to just change my desktop over to a Mac which I want to purchase by the end of October (or if this computer gives out before then earlier) However I just can't decide between an iMac or a Mac Pro.
The 2 big things are video editing at the moment just Final Cut Express and gaming when/if I get a chance. The iMac I'm looking at is the 3.06 GHz, with 4 GB ram, and a Geforce 8800GS video card. On the Mac Pro side it'd be more or less the Stock Mac Pro with 2.8 GHZ Quad core x2, 4 GB Ram, and I'd purchase the ATI HD 3870 video card for it.
The other difficulty is I do need a new monitor as well with the iMac a new monitor isn't an issue but with the Mac Pro it's extra and I guess I'm trying to debate if the difference between the 2 computers is really worth the cost. I'd like for the new computer to last me 3-4 years maybe a bit longer so it's just a matter of which is better for my needs. Is the Mac Pro really worth it over the iMac? I know I cant replace anything in the iMac but if it can do me for awhile I don't see why that'd be a downside
The other factor is, buying at the end of october, is it wise or should I try and get as much life out of my dead PC and try and wait for the next iMac/Mac Pro refresh?
Thank you to everyone who replies with their opinions.

The biggest advantage of the MacPro is its expandability. Yes, it is faster too, but is the speed difference worth the extra cost? Looking at what you can expand in a MacPro (unlike PCs which can be swapped out component by component until nothing but the case is original equipment) I decided that expandability was too limited to be worth the price and the speed increase wasn't either.
In the past I'd bought a Mac tower and kept it 5 years, over those five years upgrading the graphics card, swapping out the CPU, bigger drives, etc. I looked at the MacPro and concluded there wasn't much I would or could do to expand it other than a bigger hard drive or more hard drives and more memory. Maybe a better graphics card. Meanwhile, I could buy an iMac, keep it for 2 1/2 years, sell it, buy a new iMac and keep it for 2 1/2 years and wind up spending less (thanks to the high resale values of Macs).

  • Mac Pro Overheating

Not sure if I have a problem,  but every time I open an Excel file within Microsoft Office 2011, my Mac Pro (early 2011 edition) begins to heat up with the fan blowing hard.    I have done some online searches and haven't found any quick answers.    I worry that perhaps I have a virus and don't know whether this condition is potentially damaging.    Once I close Office I'm OK.    Not sure how much I'm overheating but the base does get quite hot.    Any ideas or other actions I can take to figure this out?

    Install iStat menus:
    http://bjango.com/mac/istatmenus/
When your MBP gets 'hot', post an image of the generated temperatures.
Also post an image of ACTIVITY MONITOR set to ALL PROCESSES and CPU set to display values from high to low.
    Ciao.

I was bought a Mac book pro as a birthday gift from the Apple Store in Leicester, after completing the initial set up procedure, I noticed that  the trash bin was full of some one's entire photo collection from 2003 to 2011.
This is entirely unacceptable for Apple: How long have Apple been fobbing of consumers who believe they were genuinely purchasing a 'new' Mac book?
How is it that I have someones entire photo collection on my 'branch new Mac Book Pro' - these photos included wedding photo's, birthday celebrations, family celebrations and children. Its a serious breach of data protection, it's an invasion of some poor persons privacy and private photo collection. What concerns me the most, is what could have happened if those photo's had fallen into the wrong hands. We managed to trace, locate and contact the person who the photo's belong to within 10 mins using information taken from their wedding album.
Understandably these people are also very distressed that their personal photos are on my brand new Mac Book pro.
I would like details of who to contact in regards this incident.

  • Will Remote Desktop allow me to access and use my Mac Pro 2009 from my MacBook Pro 2011?

Own a small business, have two locations, I need to use Windows via Parallels on my Mac Pro 2009, but I am forced to spend most of my time at the other location which has a MacBook Pro 2011. Will Remote Desktop allow me to use the MacBook Pro 2011 to access the Mac Pro and use Windows via Parallels?

If all you need is to be able to control another computer, then ARD would be overkill. If the systems have Mac OS X 10.5 or later you can use the Screen Sharing built into those versions of Mac OS X to control the system.
Another and perhaps easier option is to use a service such as LogMeIn or TeamViewer. Either option may be significantly easier than dealing with screen sharing or ARD.
You'll want to confirm that any solution you choose will work with Parallels, of course. I haven't tried remote control of a system to use Parallals, so there may be special considerations there. If you don't get useful comments here, you might try Parallels' forums.
    Regards.
