Mac Pro restarts with kernel panic error during Adobe Premiere CS6 or Adobe Media Encoder CS6 render/encode.
Multiple times this week, my Mac Pro at work has been restarting during renders in Adobe Media Encoder CS6 and Adobe Premiere CS6. This seems to be specific on this computer only. Identical computers don't have this problem. Here is the system report after it reboots to OS X:

That doesn't look like a complete panic report. Is there any more to it? Regardless, I suggest you run the extended form of the Apple Hardware Test. If it fails to identify a fault, remove the RAM upgrade and test with the original RAM.

Mac Pro 4,1 kernel panic - restarts on its own
I have a Mac Pro 4,1 that will not finish the start up process It kernel panics at the end of the process. It will then do a restart on its own and kernel panics again.
What's the best way to figure out what's wrong with it? HDs? Processor ? Or the RAM? I have not changed anything for a long time.
ThanksPlease read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, or by a peripheral device.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including Wi-Fi on certain iMacs. The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin. Test while in safe mode. Same problem? After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test. -
Mac Pro 3,1 Kernel Panic on mountain lion
Hi Everyone,
I see there are a lot of posts out there but I'm not sure where to turn exactly. Any help is really appreciated. I have a Mac Pro 3,1 and moved from 10.6.8 to 10.8.2 and have kernel panics on the gray start up screen. I can boot up in safe mode.
I have a NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT, 6GB RAM. I saw that there is a driver from NVIDIA (Retail-304.00.05f02-macos.dmg), which I installed but it didn't help.
Here's the last kernel panic log:

If I were you I'd uninstall the software or at least navigate to the /System/Library/Extensions/ folder, locate the driver file. CTRL- or RIGHT-click and select Move to Trash from the context menu. DO NOT try dragging it to the Trash as that won't work. Then restart the computer.
Visit the site of the manufacturer of the USB dongle to see if they have updated software you can install that is compatible with Mountain Lion. From my recent searches there aren't very many that have anything tested beyond Lion. -
Mac Pro 1,1 Kernel Panic on Boot
First, the specs:
Mac Pro 1,1
Dual Core Intel Xeon 2.66 (x2)
6GB RAM
NVIDIA GeForce 7300 GT
Snow Leopard 10.6.8
So, I boot up one day and get the usual Apple logo and spinning wheel. It then flashes a blue screen, then goes to the light grey screen with the mouse cursor. After a couple of minutes doing nothing, I get the infinite SBBOD.
I've wiped and reinstalled SL.
I've swapped system drives.
I've removed all non-original hardware.
I've zapped the PRAM.
I sacrificed a Windows 8 laptop in a pagan ritual that, quite honestly, frightened me.
Nothing gets the machine to boot under normal conditions. However, Safe Boot and Target Disk Mode work fine. So my hunch is that the graphics card may be the culprit, but I've seen none of the tell-tale signs that the GPU is on its last legs.
Since the machine is older than dirt, and I've moved quite a few times during its life, I no longer have the original Mac Pro disc to run AHT, and I hea
I'm about to go drop $300-$400 on a 5770, but can't bring myself to spend that kind of cash if I can't determine whether it's a GPU issue, or a motherboard issue.
Does anyone have any insight, or has been through this exact issue?I meant "newer used" HD 5770. LOL. My bad.
What I'm looking to do is enable Mercury Playback Engine in Premiere Pro and After Effects, and drop another 16GB RAM in for my pro apps, and a SSD in for the OS. What is my best option when it comes to graphics card to make this machine viable for another 3-5 years?
FYI: I'm not trying to edit 4k on this thing, but I'd love some relatively faster renders on my 1080p footage. -
Mac Pro Mountain Lion Kernel Panic Dual Video Cards
I've been getting constant panics since upgrading to Mountain lion on my 2009 Mac Pro.
Worth noting is I have dual GT 120 Video Cards and dual 30" LCDs. Every panic seems to be caused by com.apple.NVDAResman
This computer has been rock solid since 2009 and only after "updating" to Mountain Lion has it become unstable.
Was hoping 10.8.1 and 10.8.2 would fix the issued, but neither have. It's worse than ever. Crashing every day.
Already reinstalled the OS, tested the RAM, etc. No change. Still crashes everyday.
What should I do? It's really eating into productivity...

Will any body outthere heppe me get out this freezes up panic kernel Darwin 9.2.1.

Can you take out the battery and with the charger connected start up? Same failure?
Have you tried the SMC reset and PRAM reset? do both twice. -
New MacBook Pro i7 2.66 - Kernel Panic Errors
Greetings! I have a new MBP, less than 3 weeks old now. I have received numerous kernel panic errors and am not sure how to decipher the log. I have run disk utility from the install disk and no problems came back. Not sure what to do.
The *first two crashes* happened while I was browsing in safari (only add = Web Developer, installed, but not enabled during the crash)...and the pages were quite simple, no heavy graphics--usually simple news blogs. It happens while I am connected via ethernet AND via airport. During the first two crashes I had a couple of firewire hard drives plugged in.
The *latest crash* happened while I was in Photoshop--again not doing anything to heavy. ANd no external drives were plugged in. Nothing but the power supply wired to the machine.
Can anyone help to explain what may be the problem. I am not sure if I should bring it in to the shop yet, or if there is something I can change from here to remedy the problem. Also, not sure if I should zap PRAM...I have yet to try this.
Thanks in advance for any insight into this problem.

After upgrading to 10.6.8, I almost immediately began experiencing multiple random kernel panic errors. I reinstalled the operating system that came with my notebook from the cd (10.6?) and the problem went away. I upgraded again to 10.6.8 and again began experiencing the same error. I have since gone back and installed the operating syatem from the cd and then upgraded to 10.6.7. I have not had a single kernel panic error since, but I would like to upgrade to 10.6.8 so that I can install Lion when it is avaialable. Any thoughts as to how I can do this without experiencing all of the accompanying kernel panic errors?
Thank you. The log is below:

To anyone with a kernel panic error.
I just solved my kernel panic error.
I have tried all the different support, even had my macbook pro in for service 4 times without getting this error solved.
Have the macbook pro with pentium dualcore 2,16 and samsung RAM.
I tried swithing harddrive due support thought it was the harddrive that was corrupt. This did not change anything.
Have done all of the support resets, this do not work.
Try replacing the samsumg RAM. This did work, the kernel panic is gone.rick, whynchoo move along to 10.5.4, then, since yer so purrfek. Just kidding! You surely have; just haven't updated yer profile, Cap'n Snooty-off-the yacht ... Your post was on-point, except the last line seemed ... hurtful? We're all tryin, here.

Kernel Panic error EVERY time I restart!
I have a Powerbook G4 and every time I start my machine I get the kernel panic error. I just got my computer back from Apple -- it was getting it's second logic board replacement! I have never gotten this error before now.
I have done the Hardware Test, disk utility, Applecare Techtool Deluxe --- it passes all the tests. I tried repairing from the install disk and even reinstalling the operating system, but it won't let me. The only thing that works temporarily is resetting thr PMU. If I do that before I start up the machine it works fine, but as soon as I shut down I get the same error message. I'm hoping that I don't have to take it back the Apple Store. I would greatly appreciate anyone input. I've already spent about 5 hours looking online and numerous sites with not much luck except the PMU reset. Below is one of the logs from the Kernel error.

THANK YOU!....But I ran the Hardware Test Disk and it scanned everything including the RAM and it was fine. Do you think it's something one of the Technicans at the Genius Bar could have done when they were replacing the logic board? Because I never got this error before that. Also, my battery won't charge right now either. I've only had this machine for 3 years and it's already needed 2 logic boards and they replaced the harddrive with the first logic board. It's not even used everyday!! This is turning into a very expensive paper weight. I love Macs but I will think twice before I ever get another one!!
The only reason I wanted to fix it myself is because the closest Apple Store is about an hour and a half away. And I don't want to send it in to Apple because my warranty has expired. -
Hello everyone,
I hope someone can help me with this....
Everytime I boot my Macbook Pro (2012, 15inch Retina version) it gets stuck in a boot- kernel panic error-reboot loop. Ive mananged to boot into it (see below) to take a look at the logs, I have attached the log to the bottom of this post.
I have windows installed on this computer too, so I tried booting into it and I seem to get the same situation - windows reboots after what I can only assume to be a kernal panic.
Now interestingly if I hold down shift during the boot onosx (NOT booting into safe mode, after the spinning icon is already showing) I can boot up - I am not sure why though? I assume I am disabling some kernal extensions?
Things I have done:
Run the mac hardware test 3 times, no errrors reported
Run disc checking/verifying 3 times, no problems reported
Checked kext to see if there are any non official extensions, none all are com.apple.* or NVIDA stuff
Reset NVRAM and SMC controller
I am not really a mac expert but looking at that log it looks graphics card related? To test this - I downloaded gfxCardStatus and forced it to use the discrete graphics card and it seems to be using it with no problems. I the forced only the on board card to check if that was ok and it was.
So where should I go from here? If it was a hardware failure it would be happening every time and I wouldnt be able to use the shift key to boot up right?
If it was only software, why would it be happening to windows too?
Help me please!
Anyway, thanks for reading this.

Boot in safe mode* and log in to the account with the problem. The instructions provided by Apple are as follows:
Shut down your computer, wait 30 seconds, and then hold down the shift key while pressing the power button.
When you see the gray Apple logo, release the shift key.
If you are prompted to log in, type your password, and then hold down the shift key again as you click Log in.
*Note: If FileVault is enabled under OS X 10.7 or later, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t boot in safe mode. Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including wireless networking on certain Macs.
MBP Mid2010 with kernel panics, passed video tests
I have a Mid 2010 Macbook Pro that I tried to upgrade to OSX 10.8 in the fall of 2012, but the system was very unstable with kernel panics. I took it to the Apple store and they couldn't find anything wrong, so I reverted back to 10.6. I attempted again to upgrade to 10.8 in Feb and this time the install proved stable. Things ran great until 10.8.4 was pushed and the system has been unstable since. I heard of the issue with the graphics switching and took it to an Apple store again to have it tested, but the machine passed the video test. It was recommended that I try to do a clean install of the OS and see if a particular piece of software was causing the issue. I complied and completely wiped the drive and installed 10.8.4 fresh, but I had kernel panics within a few minutes after the system was installed. I have had over 80 KP in the last month and have no idea what direction to go. I have run Rember memory scan, which returned no issues with the memory. Any help would be appreciated.

<Edited By Host>That panic was not caused by third-party software. If the problem is recurrent, the possibilities are:
A stale or corrupt kernel cache
A damaged OS X installation
A fault in a peripheral device, if any
Corrupt non-volatile memory (NVRAM)
An internal hardware fault (including incompatible memory)
An obscure bug in OS X
You may already have ruled out some of these.
Rule out #1 by booting in safe mode and then rebooting as usual. Note: If FileVault is enabled on some models, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Post for further instructions.
You can rule out #2 and #3 by reinstalling the OS and testing with non-essential peripherals disconnected and aftermarket expansion cards removed, if applicable. Sometimes a clean reinstallation (after erasing the startup volume) may solve a problem that isn't solved by reinstalling in place, without erasing.
Corrupt NVRAM, which rarely causes panics, can be ruled out by resetting it.
If your model has user-replaceable memory, and you've upgraded the memory modules, reinstall the original memory and see whether there's any improvement. Be careful not to touch the gold contacts. Clean them with a mild solvent such as rubbing alcohol. Aftermarket memory must exactly match the technical specifications for your model. Memory that is either slower or faster than specified may be incompatible.
The Apple Hardware Test or Apple Diagnostics, though generally unreliable, will sometimes detect a fault. A negative test can't be depended on. Run the extended version of the test.
In the category of obscure bugs, reports suggest that FileVault may trigger kernel traps under some unknown conditions. Most, though not all, of these reports seem to involve booting from an aftermarket SSD. If those conditions apply to you, try deactivating FileVault.
Connecting more than one display is another reported trigger for OS X bugs.
If your system is not fully up to date, running Software Update might get you a bug fix.
In rare cases, a malformed network packet from a defective router or other network device can cause panics. Such packets could also be sent deliberately by a skillful attacker. This possibility is something to consider if you run a public server that might be the target of such an attack.
If none of the above applies, make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store to have the machine tested. You may have to leave it there for several days. There isn't much point in doing this unless you can reproduce the panic, or if you can't, it happens often enough that it's likely to be repeated at the store. Otherwise you may be told that nothing is wrong.
Print the first page of the panic report and bring it with you.
Back up all data on the internal drive(s) before you hand over your computer to anyone. If privacy is a concern, erase the data partition(s) with the option to write zeros* (do this only if you know how to restore, and you have at least two independent backups.) Don’t erase the recovery partition, if present.
Keeping your confidential data secure during hardware repair
*An SSD doesn't need to be zeroed. -
Intel Mac Mini Core Solo - Kernel Panic on Boot
I was wondering if anyone who has purchased the Intel Mac Mini is having issues with Kernel Panics during the booting sequence?
I got a Core Solo from the local Apple store (couldn't wait to play, I'm waiting on the Core Duo I ordered online to come still ). The first thing I did was fire it up check it out for a few minutes, then I put the install disc in and reinstalled a clean OS, with less options because I'm planning on hooking it up to my TV so I don't need space hogs like Garageband etc on my TV computer. I got the updates that popped up, then shutdown the computer. I took it out to the living room and hooked it up to the tv and I got a black message about needing to restart (a kernel panic) right when the blue progress loading bar comes up on boot. I spent a while with it trying to figure out what was wrong, ran the Apple Hardware Test, booted it fine in Safe Boot. Finally I got tired of it and reinstalled the OS again.
It was fine for a day, working fine out on the tv. I brought it back in my room to play with a few things like Darwine, etc. Shut it down, came back an hour or so later booted it up and got the kernel panic on boot. Safe boot still worked fine. I spent some time trying to look for panic logs but didn't see any. I ran the disk utility and did a Full erase and it worked fine. I reinstalled the OS again. Ran MemTestOSX and it worked fine. I left it running the Apple Hardware Test for about 6 hours or more, and it performed perfectly.
This morning it still seemed ok, except sometimes on a cold boot when the blue progress bar screen should come on... my monitor just shows black and the light on the monitor goes inactive. So, I press the button on the back to sleep it, then bring it out of sleep with the keyboard and the OS is sitting there booted.
It seems like a weird combination of software and hardware problems, but maybe it's all hardware problems. I can't get past Safe Boot working when the OS stops loading. Right now the computer is working fine.
I'm waiting for my Core Duo to come in the mail and verify that it works flawlessly, then I'll take the Solo to the store and ask them to look at it.
Anyone have any similar experiences so far?It seems like the mini is doing alright so far. I think maybe the full erase solved whatever issue it was having. I also got my Core Duo Mini yesterday in the mail and it's performing like a champ. Definitely a nice machine.
I'll close my question for now, since the Core Solo Mini seems alright. But, as a warning don't get on Front Row's bad side. I tried force quitting it because it was taking too long to load the videos folder and then tried shutting down from a terminal and ended up having to turn the machine off. -

This is an indication that you are not using the latest version of Tunnelblick and/or you are not using the latest version of OpenVPN that Tunnelblick contains, or you are setting OpenVPN to specifically use the "tun" device. Recent (for the last year or so) versions of Tunnelblick use OS X's built-in "utun" device (available since OS X 10.6.8) instead of the add-on "tun" device.
If you are using an older version of Tunnelblick*, I urge you to update to the latest beta version, which includes important security updates and, depending on what old version you have, kext updates. You can use Tunnelbick's built-in updater (on the "Preferences" panel of the "VPN Details… window") or you can download it from Tunnelbick's Downloads page. If you download, be sure to install by double-clicking as directed – do not drag it to the Applications folder.
Before you do so, please note the current version you are using. If the update causes problems (unlikely), you can reinstall that old version (after downloading it from Tunnelblick's Security Risk Downloads page). To see what version of Tunnelblick you are using, click the "Info" panel at the top of Tunnelblick's "VPN Details… window".
* You will not be able to update Tunnelblick if you have a "Deployed" version – see the note about that on Tunnelbick's Downloads page.
