MAC PRO V1.1 upgrade to OS Mountain Lions?

Why is OS Mountain Lion not compatible with my MAC PRO, spent $4500.00 and can not upgrade to the new OS.

Did you look at the dozen threads in the last days and today? not much to add to what has been said already.

Software upgrades do not generally damage hardware; your drive's failure must be co-incidental. On most MBP's, a hard drive is very easily replaced by a user. You might want to check out this site for both hard drives as well as install videos (check which model you have so you can check the correct video):
    http://eshop.macsales.com/installvideos/
    hard drives:
    http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/internal_storage/hard_drives_and_SSD
I just recently upgraded my MBP with an SSD; I purchased an kit with an external enclosure from OWC and cloned the current drive to the new one, installed the new drive and was done in no time.

First, back up all data immediately, as your boot drive might be failing.
There are a few other possible causes of generalized slow performance that you can rule out easily.
If you have many image or video files on the Desktop with preview icons, move them to another folder.
If applicable, uncheck all boxes in the iCloud preference pane.
Disconnect all non-essential wired peripherals and remove aftermarket expansion cards, if any.
Otherwise, take the steps below when you notice the slowdown.
    Step 1
Launch the Activity Monitor application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Activity Monitor in the icon grid.
Select the CPU tab of the Activity Monitor window.
Select All Processes from the menu in the toolbar, if not already selected.
Click the heading of the % CPU column in the process table to sort the entries by CPU usage. You may have to click it twice to get the highest value at the top. What is it, and what is the process? Also post the values for % User, % System, and % Idle at the bottom of the window.
Select the System Memory tab. What values are shown in the bottom part of the window for Page outs and Swap used?
Next, select the Disk Activity tab. Post the approximate values shown for Reads in/sec and Writes out/sec (not Reads in and Writes out.)
    Step 2
If you have more than one user account, you must be logged in as an administrator to carry out this step.
Launch the Console application in the same way you launched Activity Monitor. Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
    View ▹ Show Log List
    from the menu bar.
Select the 50 or so most recent entries in the log. Copy them to the Clipboard (command-C). Paste into a reply to this message (command-V). You're looking for entries at the end of the log, not at the beginning.
When posting a log extract, be selective. Don't post more than is requested.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Important: Some personal information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting. That should be easy to do if your extract is not too long.

  • Mac Pro 3,1 Kernel Panic on mountain lion

    Hi Everyone,
I see there are a lot of posts out there but I'm not sure where to turn exactly. Any help is really appreciated. I have a Mac Pro 3,1 and moved from 10.6.8 to 10.8.2 and have kernel panics on the gray start up screen. I can boot up in safe mode.
I have a NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT, 6GB RAM. I saw that there is a driver from NVIDIA (Retail-304.00.05f02-macos.dmg), which I installed but it didn't help.
Here's the last kernel panic log:

Either the dongle or the driver extension is not compatible with Mountain Lion. If I were you I'd uninstall the software or at least navigate to the /System/Library/Extensions/ folder, locate the driver file. CTRL- or RIGHT-click and select Move to Trash from the context menu. DO NOT try dragging it to the Trash as that won't work. Then restart the computer.
Visit the site of the manufacturer of the USB dongle to see if they have updated software you can install that is compatible with Mountain Lion. From my recent searches there aren't very many that have anything tested beyond Lion.

it is not that, then an app may be crashing causing the OS to crash and then you may have a setting that restarts your computer should it crash.
You might also want to attempt a reinstall from the recovery partition
To get to the recovery partition restart your computer,  hold CMD+R down when you hear the boot up chime. Open Disk Utility first (verify your boot disk and repair if needed) and then close it and reinstall ML.

Bad choice, since the cost is exorbitant. Snow Leopard ($29 USD) is available from its online store's telesales agents.[1-800-MY-APPLE (1-800-692-7753) or Customer Service and Sales Support at 1-800-676-2775.]

For that model, Epson has this information:

Description: The latest Mac OS X ICA scanner driver for your Epson product is available only via Apple's Software Update. Here's how to get it:

My Mac Pro will not upgrade past 10.7.5 Now what?

No, it is not possible. I have an early model, too, that now sits in a corner. I replaced it at the time with a mid-2011 iMac. The only less expensive route than a new computer is a used/refurbished model, but were you to go that route stick to a 2009 or later model MP.
Surely your business can afford £2500 for a necessary asset. It's depreciable for tax purposes if your tax system allows that. Just ask yourself how much it would cost your business if you did not have a computer. And, consider, if you really need to get a new computer assuming the one you have is still working. Keep it and start putting away enough from your business revenue to buy a new computer later. It's a required part of business planning.

  • Is it recommended to upgrade Mac OS x 10.5.8 to mountain lion or snow lepord

Is it recommended to upgrade Mac OS X 10.5.8 to mountain lion or snow leopard?

I think that Snow Leopard is a definite yes.  It is the most efficient OS from Apple.
Mt. Lion if there are features that you really want, then do it.
Check the requirements for the respective OS's to see if your Mac qualifies:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/SP575
    http://www.apple.com/osx/specs/
Note:  If you decide you want Mt. Lion it will require that you install Snow Leopard and update it to 10.6.8.
A Snow Leopard disk may be ordered from the Apple online store:
