And will not start up in safe mode. I have reset PRAM and SMC. Also restarted with no startup items, no luck. Had the problem of waking from sleep and not shutting down in 10.7, updated to 10.8 hoping for fix, no luck. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

Hi, this log has some similarities to my ipod touch which seems to be not sleeping properly due to wireless issues. Can I check - are you using a wifi connection - if so have you tried ethernet?

  • Mac Pro Server fans rev when wake from sleep

I have a former Mac Pro 2010 (5,1) server that I am using as a desktop. Ever since I got it, if allowed to sleep, when woken the fans go to full blast and stay there until the machine is restarted. I have reset the power manager and PRAM with no change. I have just lived with it never sleeping. now I have a 2013 6 core on the way and this machine will hit the eBay listings soon so I wondered if anyone had any ides about this. I hate to tell a prospective buyer s/he can't sleep the machine. The firmware is also up to date.
    Thanks in advance,
    Ted

I don't rermember exact numbers but the temps were low normal, this first happend in my air conditioned office, which I lke cold. I don't think it's a sensor problem because when it's working hard the temps rise to consideable levels and I usually up the fan speed myself before the fan speed increases on it's own. Also it will happen if I sleep it for 5 seconds and wake it. I originally thought that a server might have different firmware and being unattended this might be a failsafe if one were to accidently be put to sleep but the firmware seems the same as a desktop machine. Has happene over three boot drives and two operating systems so it's not some software weirdness. The machine is immaculate inside, no dust anywhere. I'ts got me beat. I suppose I force the rise again and check the log oon Console, see if anything shows up.

  • As soon as video touches my Source or Program windows the Mac Pro (3,1) shuts down

    Linc,
You keep showing up when I search for this problem so I hope you can help.
I'm having the same issue in Premiere and Media Encoder (but not After Effects). My Mac just restarts itself as soon as video is loaded. I can start Premiere and open a project and go through relinking media, but as soon as video touches my Source or Program windows the Mac Pro (3,1) shuts down.
I've fixed the problem temporarily two times. The first time I was troubleshooting what was wrong and wound up putting in my old video card and after that fixed the problem, I switched back to my GTX 680. I also did a driver update. After doing that I was ok for a few days so I figured it was a driver thing or maybe the card just needed to be reseated. Then when it started acting up again I figured something was going on.
So I started searching again and came across one of your posts that recommended removing CUDA. I did that and it worked perfectly for a week until about 20 minutes ago. Crashed in the middle of an edit and now each time I restart Premiere it crashes as soon as video touches my monitors.
I found this post because I specifically searched for "com.nvidia.web.NVDAResmanWeb(8.2.7)" from my Problem Report.
    Any thoughts?
    Thanks,
    Darren

  • Itunes make my mac pro impossible to shut down...

    Hello,
So, when i launch itunes, my mac pro can't shut down. I choose "shut down", then the gray screnn and the wheel turning, but... nothing else. I have to shut it down with the button...
Mac pro nehalem 2010 with Lion or Mountain, after re-installing lion or mountain Combo, or re-installing iTunes, with or without any peripherics pluged (usb firewire...) with another sessions... Hardware test is all correct.
When i don't launch itunes, my session and my mac can shut down normally...
Excuse my english and thanks at all !

But the power/stand by button don´t. I need to disconect the phones to the power/stand by button starts  to works. Anyone already have simmilar problem?

A windows error message appears saying iTunes has encountered a problem and needs to shut down.
let's get a crash log from itunes, and send it to the Apple engineers for a look.
Typically, you'll need to configure Dr. Watson on your PC in order to generate crash logs. Windows start menu -> Run. Type in "cmd". Hit return. At the prompt in the command line window that comes up, type in
    drwtsn32 -i
    And hit return.
This will create crash logs in Documents And Settings\All Users\Application Data\Microsoft\Dr Watson\. There'll usually be a file in here called "drwtsn32.log"
prior to collecting the itunes crash log, delete any existing crash logs in there. (we want to make sure we send the correct crash log.)
Generate the crash, collect the crash log, and and send it as an attachment to this email address.
in the email to Roy, be sure to include the following information:
    - A link to the thread on Apple Discussions where the issue is being discussed
    - The username you are using in the thread
    - The version of iTunes you are using or trying to use
    - the version of Windows you are using (mention service packs)
    - A concise description of the issue you are seeing
    - The exact text of the error message you are seeing

I cannot get the new mac mini to wake from sleep and trigger the displays - this is the second mac mini I have had and both have had the same issues. It worked before on my macbook extremely well...
Using 2 displays, connected via HDMI and thunderbolt
Been on to support a number of times now - is anyone experiencing the same issues?

    BUMP.
I actually showed this to Apple geniuses when I took my computer to the apple store, and it's still here. In console it says:
    kernel[0]: Previous Shutdown Cause: -128
I don't know if that's related or not, but maybe helps?

  • Freeze, no wake from sleep, and one beep repeats on restart -- intermittent

My 4 week-old macbook pro 5,3 (2.8GHz, 4GB) started having trouble waking from sleep this week. At first, a hard reboot solved the problem. Yesterday, it would not wake from sleep and the sleep light would blink twice then repeat. Upon hard reboot, this time it emitted a loud beep repeatedly (one single beep, then silence) and could not boot the OS.
I called Apple and tried all the various reboot key combinations and also inserted the OSX CD and tried to boot from CD. None of this worked, just got the beep beep beep.. They eventually said this indicated a bad logic board and scheduled an appointment at the Genius bar.
The strange thing is, I was trying to eject the OSX install CD and mistakenly thought that holding down E during reboot would do this (maybe this was some trick from old macs, can't remember..) and it booted up just fine! It worked overnight, then froze again the next day. After hard reboot, it was back to the beeps again. This time, I immediately tried holding down E again and it worked again!
Obviously I have a major hardware problem, but this at least allowed me to do a time machine backup before taking the computer in for service. It may be a coincidence, but twice in a row certainly is strange. Has anyone had anything like this happen to them? Thanks!

    Hello.
I've had this issue too. I've found that I can reproduce this issue by putting the computer to sleep when there is major hard drive activity.
First, reset the PMU. That didn't work for me, but it might for you.
If that doesn't work, reset the PRAM. That didn't work for me either, but it might for you.
If neither of those work, here's how I was able to solve the problem:
1: Open System Preferences and go to Energy Saver.
2: Find how many minutes it is before the computer goes to sleep. Remember this number; you'll need it later.
    3: Open Terminal.
4: Type "sudo pmset -a disksleep n" where n is a number greater than zero but less than the number from step 2.
5: Enter an administrator password at the "Password:" prompt.
6: Remember in the future not to put the computer to sleep when the hard drive is busy.
    Good luck!

  • Mac Pro (Early 2008) shuts down unexpectedly

I have a recurring problem with my Mac Pro (Early 2008). I put the computer to sleep; then, when I tap a few keys on the keyboard to wake it up, I hear the start-up sound and it boots up as if it were shut down.
This is particularly strange, because I do not have to use the "power" button on the tower to turn it on. When I tap the keys on the keyboard, as if to wake it from sleep, it makes the start-up sound and boots. I am guessing that somehow it is shutting off when I first try to wake it from sleep, and then must re-boot. But this is odd behavior that I've never seen from any Mac, and I've been using them for almost 20 years.
Any ideas? I'm going to call Apple Support but I always dread those long wait times and often fruitless conversations. I did not migrate information from my previous system; I took the time to manually migrate my files and reinstalled all apps from DVD specifically to avoid problems like this. Very frustrating.

I've noticed the same problem for one day with my new MP 2.8 dualquad, got a reboot after every sleep.
This solved the issue for me:
    • Reset the PRAM (Boot the machine and hold ALTCOMMAND+PR for 3 startup gongs)
    • Reset the SMC -> http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=304123-en
    Good luck

  • Mac pro doesn't shut down

My mac does not shut down. I always need to hold teh start button in for five seconds to force it to shut down.
If I connect my ipda mini and iphot automatically comes up then iphoto hanges up and can't be shutdown uless I force quit it an dthen it whacks out the finder an dI have to force the machine to shut down.
I did teh oram zap thing and it seem to help temporarily but the problems reoccur. IS there a utlity of software package I can run?
    Larry

    I agree.
So, just so I have a game plan.
    Option 1.
    External Drive:
Buy an external drive and do a clean install on that drive and migrate the apps etc on to that drive from the bad drive?
    Option 2 Internal Drive:
    1. Swap out the time machine drive for the new internal drive
    2. Migrate the files apps etc. from bad system drive
    3. Replace teh bad drive with the time machine drive and reset time machine
    Option 3 two new drives
    1. Swap out the time machine drive for the new internal drive
    2. Migrate the files apps etc. from bad system drive
    3. And repalce the time machine one with an external drive and do fresh time machine start.
Basically option 3 leaves me with a new internal disk and a new external disk as the time machine disk
I would like to keep my system drive internal. Doesn't this make for better speed?
What sounds good to you, or your option?

  • IPhone will not wake from sleep and locks up with new MMS update

    Hey everyone,
Has anyone had these problems with their new update as well?
    1) Sometimes my iPhone will not wake from sleep mode, I have to hold down both buttons for it to restart...I do this about 5 times a day!
    2) I cannot send SMS messages and when I send more than one sometimes the iPhone locks up and will not unfreeze.
Does anyone know if this is an Apple update issue or if it is an AT&T issue? And if this is being addressed?
Apple, if you read this could there be an update to all members what is going on?

I am experiencing the same issue with iPhone 3GS. After yesterday update to 3.1.2, it is a bit better in the sense that I can restart the iPhone slightly faster but still getting frozen screen during a call. I will try to call support once more. I don't believe that the problem is solved in the new update.

  • Mac Pro 3,1 Shuts Down Unexpectedly

My computer lately shuts down unexpectedly. It's not an overheat problem.
When I use skype, as soon as the video conversation starts, it shuts down.
When I try to resize a photo on Photoshop CS5, it shuts down. (I modified an OpenGL option, and I don't have this problem any more)
When I click with my mouse for the dashboard to come, it shuts down.
Could you please help me with this? I don't know what to do.
    Thank you.

I mean it powers off completely. No error message. Just the power goes off as if I shut it down myself with the normal procedure.
New development: I have two graphic cards: ATI Radeon 2600 and NVIDIA 8800.
With the NVIDIA I get shut downs when I view the dashboard, almost each time.
With the ATI I get shut downs sporadically. After one shut down, when I pressed the button to start the computer, it got to the phase when showing the white page with the Apple Logo, and it powered off. I waited 5-6 minutes and it is now running without any shut downs.
I believe it has something to do with the drivers. But I'm not sure. What steps should I follow to eliminate some aspects? What's your theory?
    Thank you for your time.

  • Macbook Pro takes long time to wake from sleep

Hi, I have recently purchased the latest Macbook Pro (Mid-2012, not the Retina display version), and I've noticed if the Macbook is left switched on, with the lid down and not plugged into the mains, it will take a long time to wake from sleep. I've looked for similar posts, and everyone describes it as a long delay, but for me the screen is greyed out (but transparent) and a process bar appears, which fills up and then the display loads properly, but it takes a further 30-50 seconds to activate things like the mouse and wifi etc (it feels like it has completely frozen).
Has anyone experienced this and is it normal? I looked up standby mode, but am led to believe this is only with the retina display models, so am a bit worried.

    Hi Thumbnut,
This article may help explain what is going on:
Mac computers: Progress bar appears after waking from sleep

    I hope this helps!

  • Macbook Pro with Leopard Won't Wake from Sleep

I'm intermittently, but with increased frequency finding my MBP won't wake from sleep. A copy of my log is below. I've snipped out where the log repeats. A common message is the "unknown SIGSEGV code 0". Any ideas what the issue is? How can I go about diagnosing?

    Hi David,
    - Have you tried any troubleshooting steps?
You may try the following steps:
    1. Reset SMC as per the following article http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964?viewlocale=en_US. If this does not resolve the issue then go to step 2.
    2. Navigate to Macintosh HD/Library/Preferences/System Configuration and remove a file called powermanagement.plist (drag it to trash, might prompt for a password). Restart the mac thereafter. If this does not resolve the issue, boot to safe mode as per http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1455 and check the issue there. If it works there, you will have to remove the following files to check Macintosh HD/Library/StartupItems, HD/Library/Caches and then restart the mac.
Let me know if this works.
