  • Will my mac pro support this graphics card?

    Hi
I have a 2007 3.0GHZ Mac pro, the current graphics card in it -  ATI X1900 XT is giving me a lot of problems for a while now. I have taken it out cleaned it and put if back in but they are still happening. Then I found this artical about it -
    http://www.macrumors.com/2010/09/27/apple-finally-acknowledges-and-addresses-ati -x1900-xt-issue/
Looks like there was a problem with it and apple were replacing all the cards within 3 years of purchase which I have missed. So I want to buy a new one, but I want to make sure my mac will support it. The problem is I do video work so I want a decent one and it needs to have 2 DVI ports. Would my mac support this card

Note that OS version is of issue. You don't list yours, but update or upgrade may be necessary.

  • Mac pro 1,1 Graphics card upgrade

Hi Im using a Mac pro 1,1 with a TI Radeon X1900 XT: That i need to  upgrade because i believe the card is going bad. I took the card out & blew all the dust out & re seated the card & it worked great for a couple days but now Im back to having issues with it again. i.e computer locking up & wierd lines on both diplays & even distorted graphics.
Anyways I use 2 23" cinema displays. I want to get a new card that will support this set up. OWC sells a card (ATI Radeon HD 5770 Graphics Upgrade Kit) that is supposed to work with a Mac pro 1,1, but it has 1 dual link dvi & 2 minidisplay ports.
My question is will the 5770 work with the 1,1 & can I hook up my two 23" Cinema diplays to the mini display ports with a adapter? Or does anybody recommend a different card? Im a photographer mainly using photoshop CS5, Lightroom, inDesign, & very little video editing.
Thank you in advance for any help!

  • Need to update Mac Pro drivers without graphics card.....

I have a 1.1 Mac Pro. The ATI Radeon 2600 graphics card that came with it is completely broken. I am trying to replace it with a ATI Radeon HD5770 which should be compatible, however as I have never really updated my OS (unfortunately I cant remember which OS it has on it at the moment, it's the one that came with it) I don't think I have the neccessary drivers. Any ideas of how I can update the drivers without haveing to buy another graphics card? If it's any help I also have a Macbook Pro. Thanks in advance.

5770 cards require one 6-pin Aux power cable from the motherboard to the card. Aftermarket cards do not always include it, but it MUST be connected.
That is a PC-BIOS card flashed with Apple Firmware. In general, such cards do NOT show the Boot Screens or any diagnostic screens. The first screen you see will be the login screen, or if you auto-login, the desktop.
The seller says It will show the Boot Screens ONLY if you connect an Analog VGA display (with adapter) to the lower DVI-I port.
Drivers for accelerated operation of this card are included with custom 10.6.4 shipped with certain Mac Pros, and in standard 10.6.5 and later. All appropriate Drivers are already included in Mac OS X -- there is no need to install them later, and no way to do so since they will not work in older versions.
Official information lists the Mac OS X that shipped originally with your Mac Pro 1,1 as 10.4.7, but it may have been as late as 10.5. These are not likely to work with that card. You would probably need to purchase a 10.6 DVD from the Apple online store, about US$30.
Most Users who are not developers would be better served with a genuine Apple card, which would show a picture from power-on. But it costs close to US$250.

  • Mac Pro fried New graphics card after 5 months

    Hi there,
My friend and I bought our Mac Pro's at exactly the same time with the following spec....
    Model Identifier: MacPro3,1
    Processor Name: Quad-Core Intel Xeon
    Processor Speed: 2.8 GHz
    Number Of Processors: 2
    Total Number Of Cores: 8
L2 Cache (per processor): 12 MB
    Memory: 6 GB
    Bus Speed: 1.6 GHz
Unfortunately his graphics card ( the NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT) messed up. He replaced it with a ATI Radeon HD 4870. This card has just gone after 5 months!!!
We both use our computers for video work. The only difference is that he plays a lot of Modern Warfare 2 online. I have my suspicions that this could be the problem. Could this be the cause or could it be some kind of motherboard fault??
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
    Many thanks guys

Some people upgraded to (10.5.6, 10.6.x, etc) and blamed the update putting more stress on their 8800's which up and keeled over.
Fan control in OS X isn't as good on these, they aren't your larger dual slot design either.
Games can and when playing, even on a PC, it is a good idea to boost the fans. Can't touch the GPU but you can use SmcFanControl and crank up 3 of the 4 system fans to proactively keep components from heating.
A GPU can usually handle 90*C but I think there were a lot of 8800s out there that were less than perfect too.
If you or someone are in the market, the ATI 5770 or 5870 right now, unless the Quadro 4000 is appealing for your work.

  • Wil this Dell Display work with my mac pro ? standard graphics card

    http://accessories.euro.dell.com/sna/productdetail.aspx?c=uk&l=en&s=dhs&cs=ukdhs 1&sku=184923
Above is the link to the one i want! will it work? i think yes but second opinion would be nice.

It depends in part on what graphic card it is attached to. And if you have 2nd monitor.
Mac Pro 2009 + OEM GT120 + Dell doesn't always work with the MiniDisplay Ports.

  • Mid 2010-12 Mac Pro Motherboard and graphics card

Is it possible to run two ATI Radeon 5770s and then have them connected via an SLI cable with the Mac Pro's motherboard as the motherboard has to be compatible, so would anyone know if it is?

Is it possible to run two ATI Radeon 5770s
Yes, that works and provides additional graphics-compute performance. Also supports up to six displays without the need for additional Aux power connections over the ONE required for each card.
... and then have them connected via an SLI cable ...
Sorry, no. The Mac does not use them in that fashion, regardless of whether you manage somehow to connect them. But when two are installed, the results in Final Cut Pro X are comparable (can be drawn on the same graph) as the dual cards in the Mac Pro 2013:

  • Mac Pro 1,1 - Graphics card upgrade HD 5770 confusion

    Hi
I'm looking to upgrade the graphics card in my 2007 Mac pro so that i can use it with my 27" cinema display (mini displayport). The Pro is currently standard & I've read that the Radeon HD 5770 works a treat in this machine and with this display.
    My question is...
I found this gcard for sale. This version of the HD 5770 is half the price and only has one mini display port, which is all i need.

Will this card work just like the hd 5770 that apple sell????? Also will it have the boot screen?
    Cheers

That card will remain dark in your machine until you run Windows.

  • Upgrading Mac Pro 1,1 graphic card

    Hi there,
I'm a photographer and I use my Mac Pro 1,1 most of all with Lightroom 3. I'd love to upgrade to a new Mac Pro, but no budget at the moment, so I'm looking for solutions that would allow Lightroom to work faster. Would upgrading the graphic card make a great difference? If yes, wich one should I buy?

  • Mac Pro Early 2008 Graphics Card Update Questions

    Hi there
I have an early 2008 Mac Pro running Lion with one ATI Radeon HD 2600 XT 256 MB GPU.
I'm planning on updating it but I'm not sure if I can stick any PCIe GPU or if I need to get a "Mac version". I can't find any clear info on "Mac specific GPU's"
Is there any list of compatible devices out there besides these two?

    Thanks again

  • 1,1 Mac Pro, want new graphics card

I'm looking for a new graphics card. My computer currently has the following:
Chipset Model: NVIDIA GeForce 7300 GT
    Type: GPU
    Bus: PCIe
    Slot: Slot-1
    PCIe Lane Width: x16

I'm looking to get something on the quality of at least a Geforce 8600 or Radeon HD 2600, but I'm not sure if my computer is compatible with those models? Can someone confirm/deny this and propose a good graphics card choice for my model?
    Thanks!

    Hi,
Apple Store ATI 5770 - ONLY card being sold. $249 and works in 10.6.5 in all Mac Pro models.
I was very surprised to read the above, because both the HD 5770 and HD 5870 cards are available from Apple's UK Store.
So I have just checked Apple's USA Store website, and both cards are currently available from there too:

  • Mac Pro 3.1 graphics card not found

    SOS !!!
Last night I shuted down my Mac Pro ok.
This morning I power it on, it passes power on test (it makes the beep) , but the graphics card fun remains at full speed making noise and I have no signal on my display screen!
I connected to my Mac via teamviewer and opened system information where I see at graphics panel that there is no information for my card.
Does this means that I have to replace my graphics card, or it may be something else that causes problem to my graphics card?
The AASP store is far enough and transfer cost is expensive. I saved a copy of my S.I. named Mac Pro.spx. I also saved a copy of my console system log file named system.log and I uploaded them to a dropbox folder for anyone that interests to help me.

  • Compatibility with new graphics cards for CS6

    Hi,
I'm a video/photo editor and I'm looking to upgrade my graphics card to one with mercury playback.  I noticed on Adobe's requirements page that cs6 only supports the geforce gtx 500 series but I want to upgrade to something more recent like the geforce gtx 700 or 800 series. I'm wondering if I upgrade will adobe automatically support it or will I have to go into adobe's coding and add it in?

Ask in the Premiere or whatever forum.
