Mac pro wont boot no chime blank screen fan running 100%
When switching on the mac no chime happens, fans come on as normal then build up to 100% speed and all that happens is the light solid on the front and black screen, did the diagnostic on the logic board all that lights up is the orange trickle LED, i have done reaserch on this and aparently the riser cards have leds that light up when turning on the machine, i have also read that it could be a logic board needs replacing im really hope its not that and something else because they cost a fortune to replace. if anyone knows what is happening would muchly appreciate help
thank you
fair enough thought it would of been a logic board prolem i will try taking out the card and see what happens. if like you said it beeps do i need to replace the power supply ??
If it beeps with the video card removed that would mean it's the video card that is the problem.
I gave the computer a general clean last night but nothing major as in pulling out the cpu and giving it a clean, could that also be a problem ?
It's always good to limit the dust just to minimize overheating. But I don't think that the problem here. Just good maintenance.
also another question what are the symptoms of a logic board failure?
Machine does't work? I can't really be definitive. What happens if there is a logic board failure in your TV? I think you get the line of thought here.
thank you again you are being most helpful
You're welcome and good luck.

Mac Pro wont boot to logon screen
Help!!
A couple of weeks ago, before upgrading to 10.5.7, my screen would freeze like a picture with the mouse cursor able to move but nothing would respond. I generally had to use the main power button at least 5 times before the display would show anything and get to the logon screen. It seemed to happen when moving the mouse cursor to the top right corner of my display, which I use to "Display all windows". I have since updated to 10.5.7 but was still getting the problem. A couple of times the display just shut off on its own, there was a click within the computer then the display went blank. This has happened a few times.
Last night the screen froze again and I tried the usual reboot about 40 times and only a few times got the Grey Apple screen but would not get any further. If I had a blank screen on reboot the hard drive would be spinning at full speed and would not stop until I switched the machine off.
Now it has a mind of its own! If I get to the Grey screen it now has the sun ray symbol going round and sits like that for some minutes then the machine reboots and it goes through this cycle repeatedly on its own!
I can't get it to boot into the logon screen at all now.
I have tried various startup key options to no effect (no response to any startup options including PRAM, SMC, disconnecting all external items etc) and I am now at a loss as to what to do next.
Personally I think I have two problems, one possibly a faulty graphics card and secondly corrupted Operating System software?
Any ideas?
Thanks
DouglasHi Peter,
Thank you for your advice. It has taken many reboots to get it to recognise the install disk! Eventually it came up and I ran Disk Utility. It said the drive could not be repaired as Keys were out of order. I managed to install OSX on my second hard drive and I am now copying all the info I need from that drive after which I will reformat it ready for use again.
What a nightmare! Even worse are the negative comments I have read about the Seagate Barracuda 1.5TB Drives as I have 2 installed and also a couple of Lacie External 500GB and 600GB Drives which have also had bad reviews and I did have one fail and have spent years trying to recover 20,000 photos.
So looks like I am heading for another disaster down the line!
Thanks for your help with this one though!
Regards

Late 2007 2.4Ghz iMac wont boot - no chime or screen
I have a late 2007 2.4Ghz iMac 4GB RAM. I removed the RAM to take to work, and while I was gone my son came home from School and attempted to boot the machine with no RAM in it. He rang me up saying the iMac is beeping on startup. I came home unplugged the iMac from the power and put the RAM back in. I tried to boot and I can hear the fans spin up for a second and then nothing. No chime, no screen.
I tried using other RAM and swapping them out - nothing. I tried unplugging for 15 seconds etc, but I'm not getting anywhere. Any ideas? It took me a while but I found out the culprit was using 800Mhz DDR2 RAM rather than the stock 667Mhz. 800Mhz RAM I've used in other 667MHz machines and assumed it was backward compatible. Seems an issue with this particular 2007 iMac?

IMac G4 won't boot, no chime, blank screen
When powering up my iMac G4, you can hear the fan, but no boot chime or screen display. After manually opening superdrive and inserting the diskwarrior (or any disc), you can hear the drive spin up, but nothing happens, the drive then spins down.
Have reset PMU, still nothing.
Any suggestions?Hey Drake and Welcome to Apple Discussions,
First it would help to know the CPU speed of your eMac.
So you hear the fan and you reset the PMU ( by pushing the button in the user access port? ).
Here's the procedure from the USB 2.0 models' service manual:
"Screen is dark, fan is running and the hard drive is spinning. You may hear the startup
chime as well.
1. Reset parameter RAM. Press Command-Option-P-R during startup before “Welcome to Macintosh”
appears.
2. The system software could be damaged. Start up from the system CD that came with the computer.
3. Remove the user access panel on the bottom of the computer. With the unit powered on, check if a red
LED is visible in the access door. If the red LED is on, power is on. If you don’t see the LED glowing
red, follow the steps under the symptom “No Power”.
4. Disconnect the A/C power cord. Place the unit in the service stand and remove the user access plate.
Press the PMU reset button on the logic board. Refer to “Resetting the PMU on the Logic Board”
mentioned earlier in this chapter.
5. Check for external video. Connect an external monitor to the mini-VGA port."

I have acquired a Mac Pro from a friend. It is an earlier model mac but Im not sure how early. My problem is, when I press the power button, the power light flashed and the built in speaker plays a really high pitched buzzing noise followed by a single low pitch beep. Sometimes it will stay powered on and other times it will just cut itself off. If it stays on the high pitched buzzing from the speaker will continue until you manually cut it off. It also doesn't display anything on screen...
If you bought the Mac from a friend get your money back. That high pitched noise and low pitched beep most probably mean the motherboard is hosed.

HT1379 my macbook pro wont boot past the grey screen with the little swirly thing constantly turning
I tried all the remedies that apple support suggested and got nothing. I cant even eject the cd from the cd rom
It would help to state in your post which remedies you tried that didn't work.
Start here > OS X Lion: If you see a gray screen at startup
If nothing there helped, try Starting up in Safe Mode
Safe Mode deletes some system caches that may help.
A Safe Mode boot takes longer than a normal boot so be patient. Once you are in Safe Mode, click Restart from the Apple menu.
If a Safe Mode boot didn't work, since your Mac has OS X v10.7 installed, restart your Mac while holding down the Command + R keys so you can access OS X Recovery built in utilities. The startup disk may need repairing.
Tip: Hold down the Eject key while starting up your Mac to eject a disc. -
When turning on Macbook pro laptop I receive a blank screen for a few seconds, then a folder with a ? is displayed and remains as if the computer is now Frozen. Mac book Pro leopard operating system. What can I do to get past the freeze?
Could the disk have failed?
Can you hear it?
Boot from the install DVD and see what Disk Utility says. -

What OS were you using on the mini before this problem started? If 10.7.8.9, boot to the Recovery Volume (command - R on a restart or hold down the option key during a restart and select Recovery Volume). Run Disk Utility Verify/Repair and Repair Permissions. Then reinstall the OS.

Mac Pro wont software update and a lot of apps keep freezing/crashing/not responding
Mac Pro wont software update and a lot of apps keep freezing/crashing/not responding Im on OSX Lion and i have a Mac Pro 1.1 please help
Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode* and log in to the account with the problem. The instructions provided by Apple are as follows:
Shut down your computer, wait 30 seconds, and then hold down the shift key while pressing the power button.
When you see the gray Apple logo, release the shift key.
If you are prompted to log in, type your password, and then hold down the shift key again as you click Log in.
*Note: If FileVault is enabled under OS X 10.7 or later, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t boot in safe mode. Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including wireless networking on certain Macs. The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin. Test while in safe mode. Same problem? After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test. -
My Mac Pro wont power on please help
My mac pro wont start up.
I have already checked the power supply, fuses and have tried to zap the PRAM and changed the internal battery.
The on/off button is completely unresponsive and no light is showing on the monitorTo make progress, you need the fans to come on and the Chime. The conventional way to debug this issue is to remove EVERYTHING that could be drawing down too much power, and try for the chime.
Remove:
Graphics card
any other PCIe cards
Hard Drives
DVD Drives
external devices like USB devices
all but one pair of DIMMs
Then try to power it on. If it chimes, or the power light flashes, it's alive and can be debugged. Add back one item at a time and try for more.
