  • X301 problems after installing driver updates - won't come out of sleep mode

We have a new X301 with Vista 32 installed. Things were working fine until I ran system update the other day. I've set the power options so not shutdown hibernate, however, after a period of time the system seems to go to sleep or to a screen saver and will not come out of whatever state it is in. The only solution is to power off/on the system.
I have an X500 where there were display driver problems if there was an external monitor (dual monitor) attached. The only thing I can think of is that either there is some similar issue with the X301 since we have an external monitor attached or there is something that was messed up with the drivers that were installed. I do have (for now) restore points before these drivers were installed but I'm not ready to take that drastic step yet (or a full system restore and start over).
Anyone experience this type of issue or have any suggestions?
    Thanks
    Neil

Sadly, I had the issue resurface today. It went into standby/sleep mode while I was in a meeting (on battery power), and later I tried to wake it, and all I got was a black screen with a mouse cursor.
The keyboard brightness and volume keys on the keyboard were responsive (I could hear the audio level clicks as I changed it), but the visual overlay didn't show (where it shows the white speaker graphic with the bar of rectangles representing volume level). Also, the screen brightness keys did nothing.
I finally used Ctrl + Cmd + Power to force a restart. Luckily, my user account didn't get completely hosed like it did a couple weeks ago.
So, it looks like Migration Assistant isn't the culprit here. This is the system I just finished rebuilding. So it's either a bug in OS X/Mavericks, or it's due to an application I have running, or a configuration change I've made.
It seems to only happen when I'm on battery power, for what that's worth. I don't recall it ever happening when I'm plugged in. I have Power Nap disabled while on battery power, btw.
I'm going to enable SSH access so I can try to SSH in the next time this happens. Perhaps that will provide useful diagnostic info.
Anyone have any tips or suggestions?

  • Problem with installing driver

I have a Webcam Live! PRO. I have downloaded the driver for it and installed it but it isn't working. I plug in the camera when it tells me to, but it's not working. I'm trying to use it on yahoo messenger. I've gotten a new computer. I doubt that is the problem. The camera worked fine on my old computer. HELP ME!! Am I downloading to the wrong place?

Glad to hear that. Maybe you can post up what you did to make it work so other people that face similar problem can take this as a reference.

    Hi René
the only solution to solve this problem is to reject this Patch from your Installation
If you check the SAP-Gui Familly Link https://websmp205.sap-ag.de/~form/handler?_APP=00200682500000001943&_EVENT=LIST&EVENT=LIST&ENR=01200314690200014131&SWTYPSC=SPP&PECCLSC=OS&INCL_PECCLSC1=OS&PECGRSC1=WIN32&V=MAINT&TA=ACTUAL
you see that SAP itselfs removed this Patch.

  • Audigy 2 ZS Problems after installing driv

I am having an issue that after I install my audio drivers from creative, my cpu idles at 80% usage and my temps go from 33C to 45C without doing anything.....basically it doesnt idle. I already reformatted my pc and the cpu idles at 0.0%? until I? install those drivers than my cpu stays at 80%+.
Anyone know what is causing this?DFI Nforce 3 250GBAMD 64 3400+ 2.6Ghzgb Corsair XMS ramSeagate 320GB SATA II hddMaxtor 60GB ATA/33 hddAudigy 2 ZS sound cardX950pro 52mb AGPEnermax 500W Dual 2V rails (22A x2)?those are my specs, I can install all the drivers? and the cpu stays at 0.0% at idle until the creative drivers are installed.

I haven't had this problem myself, but to get the thread moving, here are two suggestions I've seen offered on the forum. In the Creative Mixer or Windows Volume controls, mute any playback sources you aren't using. Try moving the A2ZS to a different PCI slot (preferably not close to your video card).

  • Macbook Air: Problem to install a Ethernet USB  (model A1277)

Problem to install a USB Ethernet Model A1277 to MacBook Air (release 10.7.2)

I ended up taking my Air to the Genius Bar to get it fixed. The tech deleted the /System/Library/<something> which forces a rebuild upon reboot. That didn't fix it.
Reinstalling Lion from the recovery partition did fix the issue.  There are other threads on this topic in the forums.

  • Trying to do clean install from USB after kernel problem

    MacBook Pro 13" Mid 2010
    - was running OS X v 10.9
    - 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor
Machine was running extremely slow, unable to do anything with it. When booted to safe mode, lag issue was not present. Booted to Disk Utility, left column showed (photoshoped to show how it looked originally):
Verified and repaired Macintosh HD and disk1 - OS X Base System, no problems.
Booted Option R - Erased Macintosh HD,  tried to do new install from online, failed 3 times (took in excess of 8 hours each time). Still lagging, mouse movement very irratic.
Reset SMC, and NVRAM, some improvemet with mouse movement and speed
Read suggestions online to erase entire drive, boot from USB to DU, and install from bootable USB. Tried to do that. When in the boot from screen (Option) mouse lag not apparent. Chose USB, it opened up DU. Erased Macintosh HD again. Cannot delete or unmount OS X Base System, new screen looks like this:
From this screen, I exit back to the first screen and select Install OS X Mavericks, it gives me the choice to install on USB or Macintosh HD, I chose the latter, follow the steps, get a screen saying it's installing then it brings me back to DU after about 10 min. What am I missing here? Do I need to partition Macintosh HD creating a boot portion? I'm not a Mac person, I'm trying to fix this for my son.
Can I even do an install on Macintosh HD? I get that prior to booting to USB, I was using disk1, and so it couldn't be erased, but booting from the USB, would I not be using DU from the USB, and therefore able to clean the HD and start fresh? I'm guessing that the boot disk is causing the lag, and want to get rid of it.
Or is the disk showing disk3: OS X Install ESD accessible someone to do the install and I'm just going in circles?
I'd be extremely appreciative of any help you could provide, thank you.

Try this:  (1) On your Mac mount the disk in the Time Capsule (probably called "Data").  (2) In the "Data" volume locate and mount the "sparsebundle" image that contains the "old" backups.  (3) Click-and-hold on the Time Machine icon in the Dock, then choose from the pop-up menu the option to "Browse Other Time Machine Disks".  That should give you access to the old files.

    Hello JashaCOLD,
Thank you for the details of the issue you are experiencing with your external hard drive.  I found an article with steps you can take when an external device is not being recognized.
I recommend following the steps in the section titled "Top troubleshooting tips" in the following article:

  • Can't boot from Recovery or USB Install Drive

    Hi Folks,
My (mid-2011) MacBook Pro [Mavericks (10.9)] is not booting up – not matter what I try.
I've tried booting into Recovery (using command-R), Internet Recovery, and tonight I finally created a bootable USB install drive – no luck there either (pressing option to get to the startup disk manager). I can select which drive I want to boot from, but after selecting the USB drive and clicking on the arrow, I get to the gray apple screen (with the spinning progress wheel), and then it just stalls on a blank light gray screen (and the fans spin up). I've waited up to 45 minutes in this state, still nothing.
The same thing happens when I try to boot normally. I have Filevault 2 enabled, so I get to the user account screen – but after selecting my account, the machine goes from the gray apple startup screen to the blank gray screen and hangs.
I've tried resetting the NVRAM, booting from an install CD, etc., etc., and nada.
Does anyone have any advice where to go from here? I had hoped the USB install drive would be the answer, but for whatever reason, I'm simply having no luck. Any help would be greatly appreciated – this is my main rig and I can't afford to have it down for much longer…
    Thanks so much!

What install "CD"?? (sure it's not a DVD disc) did you try.
Not sure it is related to the Filevault system but if you can't get the Recovery HD partition to boot that may be caused by having Filevault enabled.
Have you tried the Real Online Internet Recovery system? Hold down the Command + Option/Alt + r keys at startup and keep holding them down until you see a globe on the screen. If after you see the globe, or you never get a globe on the screen, and you get that same Grey color on the screen then you more than likely have a hardware problem. You should make an Appointment with your local Apple store Genius Bar for your Mac to be properly diagnosed.

  • I have a Leopard DL disk & bought an external CD drive, but I read that I can't install through USB?

I also have a Leopard DL disk and having the same problem with my eMac. I bought an external CD drive, but I read that I can't install through USB. Why is that? Would a USB A female to FireWire IEEE 1394 6P converter work? Or do I have to buy another CD drive with a FireWire? Please help.
    PS
Can you also please explain how to boot from an external drive? (CD drive and storage device). Is there even a way to save the disks content to an external memory device and install it from there?

    Hi,
Very few PPC Macs can boot from USB, most require Firewire... BUT, all 3 of my eMacs can & do boot from USB, try holding the alt or option key at bootup.
A USB<->FW converter will not work.

  • How do I use a PC Hard Drive on Mac (Problem)

My friend has a Intel Imac (2.16 Ghz from about 2006).  She bought an external 2TB hard drive, some copied a number of movies to it for her with a PC.  When she hooks it up to her imac, the drive mounts / shows up with about 8 to 12 different icons on her desktop, but there is nothing on any of them that she can see.  I thought it might be a problem with the drive.  It is NTFS format.
However she brought the drive to me and I connected it to 2 different windows 7 computers and it works perfectly for me.  I can access the movies, write to it, etc.  I only see a single partition, basically it works perfectly for me and I see nothing wrong with it.
What do I need to do to this drive so that she will be able to see it and the contents on her iMac?  Or is there something that needs to be done special on the Imac it's self?
    Thanks so much;
    Jamie

format the external for Mac and use MacDrive or HFS+ for Windows on the windows side.
use the FAT32 format and live with the "4-GB-per-file" limit
format the drive NTFS and install e.g. the NTFS 3G driver on the Mac.
