Mac project file showing "Invalid Project" on PC

Got an Encore CS5 file created on a Mac that I'm trying to open on my PC so that we can burn BluRays... I try to open it, and get an error message saying "invalid project file." Any suggestions?

Thanks, Stan...
I never could get the project file to open, so I tried importing the media
files (exported as bluray files from PrPro on the mac) into Encore to begin
fresh, and it always killed Encore. I then tried importing them to PrPro to
see if I could DL to Encore, and it killed PrPro as well. So finally I ran
them through G-Spot and found that one of the two m4v files was in AVC/h.264
and the other had no associable codecs. The one without associable codecs
simply wouldn't open, and the one in AVC/h.264 would go half-way and then
kill the programs. Neither would play in any media player, including VLC.
So I've got the guy who created the files going back to his PrPro project on
the Mac and he's supposed to try and render them out in Avid DNxHD (which
I've been told is a good cross-platform codec) and if he can't get that to
work (the Mac's he's on are under IT lockdown and he may not be able to
install the Avid codec pack) then to render them out as 8-bit uncompressed
QuickTime. Either set of files, I can pull into PrPro and then do DL to
Encore and rebuild the menu system using the PSD files he sent me.

  • Data recovery house tainted my Mac-only files: help!

I sent a failed ext. FW drive (clicking sound, wouldn’t mount) to a fairly-well-known data recovery specialist that advertised PC and Mac formats. The drive contained numerous Mac-only files, including Sound Designer II audio files (.sd2), Final Cut Pro (.fcp), and Digital Performer files (native, no suffix), to name a few.
After said specialist started working on the drive, it became frighteningly apparent that they were not up to speed on Mac systems. To make a long story short, after a couple of weeks I received a hard drive formatted FAT32, and every Mac-only file showed up in Finder as a Unix Executable file.
My first thought was they were using Windows-based software and had corrupted all my Mac-only files beyond repair. Forging ahead and knowing nothing about scripts, I used a 3rd party program called Super Get Info and was able to change the Type and Author of the Digital Performer files, and got them to open. So far, so good. But changing the Type and Author of the .sd2 files didn’t yield the same results; Finder sees the type, size, etc. but no audio program (DP, Peak, Jam) will open them.
Thinking I was screwed, I opened another project in DP that contained audio files which were still recognized in Finder as Unix Executables, and they played! I have no idea why this works---no other program will open them independently---but it shows if I can get an app to recognize them, they are still valid files.
Is there a way to dig deeper, besides just changing the Type and Author, to essentially get back all the header(?) information that was originally there in the .sd2 files (before the "data recovery") so an audio program can see that these are indeed valid files and legit to operate on? Something in Developer Tools, 3rd party, etc.?
    Thanks,
    Roger

Extern firewire drives often come formatted as FAT32 - so unless you reformatted it yourself that may have been the way it was. When Mactintosh files are saved to a FAT32 file system, the resource information is written to a file with a ._ added to the front of the file name. If you go to a terminal window and cd to your extern drive, "ls -A" will show if the resource information is there. For a file call "file.s2d", you should see a hidden file call "._file.s2d". Some utilites have trouble creating resource forks on FAT32 drives - so your utility may not be working. Try moving some of your files back to your main drive and correct the Creator and file type there - may be that will work.

  • I have an alias of one of my external hard drives in my trash. When I click on "show original" all my external H D 's and my Mac hard drive show up. How do I delete this icon from the trash without loosing all my files?

I have an alias of one of my external hard drives in my trash. When I tried to delete it, it showed that I was deleting 80,000 files and counting. I stopped the delete process and when I clicked on "show original" all my external H.D.'s and my Mac hard drive show up. How do I delete this alias from the trash without loosing all my files? When I tried to drag it back to the desk top, it just made a duplicate and remained in the trash. When I turned off the external H.D., the trash was then empty. Tried rebooting the computer and then turning the external hard drive back on and the alias shows up in the trash again. Much help appreciated.

In Finder's Menu, select Go menu>Go to Folder, and go to "/volumes". (no quotes)
Volumes is where an alias to your hard drive ("/" at boot) is placed at startup, and where all the "mount points" for auxiliary drives are created for you to access them. This folder is normally hidden from view.
Drives with an extra 1 on the end have a side-effect of mounting a drive with the same name as the system already think exists. Try trashing the duplicates with a 1 or 2 if there are no real files in them, and reboot.
    If it does contain data...

What can I do to get it to work again as more than an overpriced paperweight?

    Hello,
Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), see if you can set a good resolution.

  • In mac mail attachment file showing like pic

    1. Sending file with mac mail its shows like picture
    2. There is paste brush like in MS Office, is it any option available in Mac.
    3. We want to know any option in mac outlook to copy attachment file. (Inbox)
    4. Outlook calendar, any option to enter multiple days’ entry.

Don't use MS Office, so cannot help you with 2,3 or 4.
As for 1,  When you attach the file - and it shows as an image, right click/option click on it.  Then select "Show as Icon", and the image will change to a small icon.  Note - this only affects how it appears on your computer - how it appears on the recipients' computer depends on their settings.

  • Mac CS6 not showing indd files as "readable documents"

A few months ago, we upgraded (finally) from CS3 to CS6. (I'm running Mac OS 10.6.8.)
Unfortunately, when I go FILE -> OPEN then type part of a file name in the SEARCH bar, no InDesign files show up---CS3 or CS6 files. I have to manually switch the dialog box from "All Readable Documents" to "All Documents" then I get all files, including InDesign files.
This used to work fine in CS3 and no other program has this issue. In the OS, all ".indd" files are set to open in CS6. (If I right-click "get info" for an old file and check, it says that it's set to open in CS6.)
If I manually NAVIGATE to a folder using the OPEN dialog box, everything works as expected. InDesign files show up normally and other "unreadable" documents are grayed out and I don't have to enable "All Documents".
Obviously, not a catastrophic error, but certainly inconvenient.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks!

Hi, dsprow. Welcome to the Discussions.
    1. You wrote: "Spotlight (and Find for that matter) are not showing all Image Files (such as JPEGS) unless a preview has already been created."I've done some testing to see if I can reproduce your report.
I find this is only the case in Find when the Images group of search results is displayed in List mode (icon of parallel lines selected on the right side of the blue Images group title).
In Find, if I select that the Images group be displayed in Icon view (by selecting the icon of four boxes on the right side of the blue images title) then all icons in the Images group of search results are shown with image previews, whether or not the image itself has a preview icon.
Other than this, I cannot reproduce the problem:
    • When I use the Spotlight Icon (Command-Space bar) or the Spotlight Window (Command-Option-Space bar) the search results in the Images group always displays an image preview whether or not the image itself has a preview icon.
    • Changing the display of the Spotlight Window to Flat List under "Group by" — before or after performing the search— has no effect on this.
    • I also checked to see if the Finder > View > Show View Options setting in Icon view for "Show Icon Preview" of the folder containing a search result affects this: it does not appear to.
    2. Can you think of anything that differentiates the images that are not working as expected from those that do? Were they created on a PC, for example? Just downloaded from a camera?
    3. You wrote: "I've tried everything I can think of."I appreciate that, but perhaps you can provide a list of things you did try so that others can test them, or make suggestions that you've not tried already.

  • Why my mac air is showing recovery files folder in trash every time

    Hi
my mac air is showing recoveryfiles folder in trash every time i restart/start my computer and another problem is all the browsers are showing me mac keeper advertisement prominently.. how to get rid of thiese problems? pl. help.

The recovered files are due to an application that fails to clean up its temporary files before exiting. Microsoft products are notorious for this.
Quit Safari. Relaunch it by holding down the shift key and clicking its icon in the Dock. That will stop the ad page from reloading automatically. Select Safari ▹ Preferences ▹ Privacy ▹ Remove all website data to get rid of any cookies or other data left by the server.

  • Unsupported File Type: Invalid Video

I'm creating a video project using iMovie. I'm now working on the DVD in iDVD and customizing my menus. I'm trying to drag pictures into the drop zone but I keep getting the message "Unsupported File Type: Invalid Video". Well first of all, its not even a video I'm trying to drag in, just regular JPEG photos. Second, I can usually drag pictures onto the main menu screen but when I get to the scene selections, that's when I start running into my problem. Has this happened to anyone else?
    iMac G5   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

No, I've tried that. See, I can import like, the first 6 photos, after that I start getting the message. I even try importing the photos that I've already imported again and those won't even import.
Awhile ago while I had those six pictures imported, I saved the project, closed it and reopened it. The pictures werent there.
I've been trying any photo now that I have on my computer and nothing will import.

    RDA972, thanks for the reply.
Yes i am using a PC, i just wanted to ask before rebooting the laptop and disabling the Hyper threading,Is it possible to have a unfinalized Premier Pro project saved as a Adobe premier file on to my USB, then that saved file on the USB stick, inserted into a different Laptop that wasn't originally used to make the Premier Pro project, but has Adobe Media encoder and adobe creative cloud in the same version.
the reason i asked this is because this is my situation and i was wondering if the different Pc had anything to do with the exporting

  • FCP captured files showing as Unix Executable

I know there's been a bit of discussion about this problem but I wanted to see if someone could shed a bit more light on my situation. For the past few years we've been doing all our video capturing (using FCP 5.1.4 capturing in HDV) and editing on a PowerMac G5 running 10.4. Once finished with a project it would get packaged to a larger Dell file server. When we upgraded to a new imac and FCP 7 all of our projects mov files were showing up as Unix Executable. I tried chmod -x but it didn't really solve the problem. What does work is this:
    1. Transfer an entire project from the dell file server to my PowerMac G5.
    2. Connect to the PowerMac G5 from my Core i5 iMac through network.
    3. The project movie files from the G5 show up normally in the finder of my i5.
    4. Connect to dell file server from my i5.
    5. Transfer files from the G5 to the dell file server via my i5.
    6. Files show up properly from the dell server on my i5.
Now this is all well and good cause it seems to work. The problem is we have thousands of files and terabytes of projects. Obviously OS X is just changing something small in the file about how it reads it. Is there a way I could alter this directly on the dell server without having to transfer all my files in the way described above?
    Hope this makes sense. Thanks.

Looks like I may have fixed my own problem. FCP never used to put an mov extension on any of it's captured files. Simply putting it on seems to have fixed the problem. Still really doesn't explain why the previous method worked, but it's a lot easier making an automator action to put extensions on than transferring terabytes of data.

  • Subversion checkout - no files show - 11.2 migration problem ?

We have an application in a subversion repository and have successfully checked things in/out using the versioning navigator.
In a new jdev 11.2 instance I checked out the application and saw files being extracted, etc.
jdev asked to migrate and I said yes. That went OK no issues.
Problem was that no projects or files show in the application navigator. Made sure no filters are on.
I can see the files and projects in the versioning navigator with their version next to them but I can't get the files to show.
So, closed the application, cleared it out of the folder I extracted to and used tortoise to extract the application. That went OK, too.
Went back to jdev, opened the application's .jws file , jdev asked to migrate, I said OK, no issues but also no files.
    What am I missing ?

never mind - developer had much too aggressive filtering on initial check-in. Those .jpr files are important.

  • Iphotos on mac not all showing in itunes

I have 3500 photos on iphoto on my macbook pro.
When i connect my iphone and go to photos sync page in itunes, I can choose wehre to sync from. I then select iphoto (because I dont konw where else my iphotos are) and then i see about 800 photos listed beside the word iphoto folder in itunes.
So why are 2700 photos that are on my mac book not showing in my itunes that is also on my macbook and how do i get them onto my iphone where i want to use iphoto
    Tx

I would say your photos are still in the library package/folder but the database is damaged.  Since we don't know what version of iPhoto and system you're using this may be your only option:
    x
Starting over from scratch with new library
Start over with a new library and import the Originals (iPhoto 09 and earlier) or the Masters (iPhoto 11) folder from your original library as follows:
    1. Open the library package like this.
    2. Launch iPhoto with the Option key held down and, when asked, select the option to create a new library.
    3. Drag the subfolders of the Originals (iPhoto 09 and earlier) or the Masters (iPhoto 11) folder from the open iPhoto Library package into the open iPhoto window a few at a time.
This will create a new library with the same Events (but not necessarily the same Event names) as the original library but will not keep the metadata, albums, books slideshows and other projects.
Note:  your current library will be left untouched for further attempts at a fix if so desired.

  • CS5 - Photoshop won't start:  preferences file  was invalid (it has been deleted)

    Environment:
    Win7 Ultimate - 4 gig ram - CS5 Design Premium
Seemingly out of the blue - Photoshop stopped loading and I'm getting two error messages :
first:           ADOBE PHOTOSHOP CS5 Extended:  "Could not load actions because an unexpected end-of-file was encountered
second:     ADOBE PHOTOSHOP CS5 Extended:  "could not initialize Photoshop because the preferences file was invalid (it has been deleted).
I've deleted the two Preferences Files - but they don't seem to repopulate on startup - (or if they do they are deleted per the error message)
I tried copying a Preferences file from another working machine but that failed as well.
In addition: Dreamweaver is kicking out the following error messages - but opens and seems to work normally.
The following JavaScript error(s) occurred:  Unable to open script file C:\Program Files (x86) Adobe\Adobe Dreamweaver CS5\Configuration\Shared\Spry\Designtime\EditingUtils.js (error 2).
The following JavaScript error(s) occurred:  Unable to open script file "C:\Program Files (x86) \Adobe\Adobe dreamweaver CS5\Configuration\Shared\Common\Scripts\dwscripts.js" (error 2).
I'm in the middle of a big project and need to get back up quickly - any help would be much appreciated.
    Thx.

Run photoshop as administrator holding Ctrl + Alt + Shift, that should trigger a preferences reset prompt.
If that won't work I would do a backup and delete the entire Adobe Photoshop CS5 Settings folder, not just the two files you mentioned.
As for your Dreamweaver issue, try deleting WinFileCache-********.dat (or FileCache.dat) from your Dreamweaver Config folder.
    Otherwise try deleting your preferences
    Exit Dreamweaver.
In Windows Explorer, navigate to C:\Users\Your User Name\AppData\Roaming\Adobe.
    Rename the Dreamweaver preferences folder:
Dreamweaver CS5: Rename the Dreamweaver CS5 folder to, for example, Old Dreamweaver CS5.
Choose Start, type regedit in the Start Search, and then press Enter.
In the left pane of the Registry Editor, navigate to the following key:
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Adobe
Remove the Dreamweaver preferences registry entries.
