Mac PSE 6 missing Sharpen filters

When originally installed I had the option to choose Sharpen filters including Unsharp Mask. That somehow disappeared. I have reinstalled twice and still don't find that filter option. Any ideas? Using OS 10.4.9. PS CS3 still has those filters as does PSE 4.

Good grief! Thank you for remembering things I didn't. That is what happens when I switch from Photoshop to Elements I guess. Simple solution for a dumb question. Although I have to wonder why they moved it.

If you have cs6 (may work with others but never tried). A little trick I do to open my jpeg in camera raw is the following:
1. In photoshop select File > Open
2. Select the file you want to open in camera Raw
3. In the format drop down at the bottom, change it to camera raw
4. Hit open
that's it your in camera raw with the JPEG

Pocket Mac vs. Missing Sync

Does anyone know which is better between Pocket Mac and the Missing Sync? I need a program to sync my Dell Axim X3 with my PowerBook G4.

The first releases of PocketMac were buggy but using the current version I have had no problems (except that calendar items do not delete from my Windows Smartphone when they are deleted from the Mac). PocketMac no longer has an iSync conduit but does have a menu bar item. It also mounts the PocketPC 'drives' on the Mac desktop.
I have also tried MissingSync but at the time it was too expensive for me to just sync one device with. But is was very good software.

Missing Panels in all three Edit Modes (Mac -- PSE 8)

Anyone have any ideas on this? Installed PSE 8 on my MacBook tonight, and thanks to this forum I've been able to troubleshoot a couple of glitches. But this one has me stumped. When i select any of the three edit options on the right side of the screen (full, quick or guided), I don't get any of the sliders or other tools that normally appear below the edit mode. Clicking the little 'Expand Panels' or 'Collapse to Icons' triangles doesn't help. The entire section where the panels should appear remains blank. I've reset the preferences (and purged the cache) but no luck there either.

OK.
I did have PSE6 installed prior to installing PSE8 (not trial versions). After installing PSE8 I uninstalled PSE6 using the uninstall option on the CD. I didn't do anything with 'deactivate' when I uninstalled PSE6, but presumably using the CD to uninstall would take care of all the required steps. I did enter the serial number when I set up PSE8, but it sounds like it didn't register. So, I'll ininstall PSE8 using the CD uninstall option (assuming there is one, otherwise I'll use the applications uninstaller), reload, and see what happens.

Missing option in Mac PSE V8.0

I have just upgraded to Elements v 8.0, on an iMac 2 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo running OSX 10.6.1.
In V 6.0 there was an option in General Preferences that read: "Fill Workspace Background" that I always left UNchecked, as I like to be able to pull up the Finder, or other programs/files, by just clicking on the item I wanted in the Desktop (which was then the background of MY workspace).
This option seems to have been removed from V 8.0, which means that now I have to use the Switcher Bar across the screen (CMD-Tab) or go to: 'Photoshop Elements'> 'Hide Photoshop Elements' to enable me to see the desktop, so that I can then click there for items. Both of these procedures I find awkward, compared with just clicking in the background. Is there a hidden preference hidden somewhere else that will allow me to remove this workspace background and show my Desktop... or am I stuck with the background, please?
I have already spoken to a guy from Tech Support, who couldn't find anything... but as he said, he doesn't actually use PSE so he is not really that familiar with it!! But maybe someone out there knows where the option is hidden, or even has a hack I could use to get it.

Many thanks Barbara... exactly what I wanted to find... but why on earth did they change the name from Workspace Background (which it certainly was!) in v6.0 to Application Frame (which it certainly isn't... it doesn't FRAME anything... rather, it's contained IN a frame) in v8.0.

PSE 6 missing folder to install actions

For some reason I am missing part of the path to install actions on my Mac. The path I'm taking is~ Library\Application Support\Adobe\Photoshop Elements\6.0\Photo Creations\Photo Effects. The path I'm missing is~ \6.0\Photo Creations\Photo Effects. I'm thinking it may have been my fault, I thought I copied the photo effects files and saved them to my external hard drive, I have since cleaned out my EHD and deleted the trash can. My effects are still working in PSE but the folder with the Photo Effects folder is not found. I have done a search on my computer and external components and nothing shows up. I'm thinking I will have to do an uninstall and reinstall in order to get the path back.
Any insight on my problem is much appreciated

You can't find that folder by searching in spotlight. My guess is that you must be looking in the wrong library--it's the one at the top level of your hard drive, not your username>library and not system>library. If you had inadvertently trashed those files, they wouldn't still be working in PSE. (they do still work, don't they, not just show up in the palette?)

PSE 6 missing photos

When I started PSE 6 this morning, I noticed that 3 folders of photos I have added to PSE are not displayed. The photos are in the folders, just not in PSE. I checked for the "show all" link thinking the view was filtered but it is not. I repaired my catalog, no errors were found, repaired anyway, no help. I optimized the catalog, no change. I restored the My Catalog folder from backup but unfortunately my backups are from before the files were added and after the files stopped showing up.
I can re-import the files, but is there another way to check the catalog? What I'm not sure of is whether there are any older photos missing.

Thank you John, I had not tried importing the files since I thought they were already imported. I searched for the filename of one of the files and it did not find it. Then I imported the files but it failed saying they were already imported. I checked the date on the files in Windows and they were showing taken in 2008 instead of 2009 and so they are in PSE, only 1 year ago. So I have a few files to change the year on.

PSE 7 - no sharpen tool?

Hi. I recently installed PSE 7 and the tools menu does not include a sharpen tool. Where did it go? Are there versions that don't have this tool? I do have blur, sponge, paint, brush, smart brush, etc. Just no sharpen. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

It's housed in the same slot as the blur tool. Click the little arrow under the blur icon in the toolbox to access yet. Alternately, you can use R to cycle through that tool slot...blur/sharpen/smudge.

If you have a Mac, there shouldn't be any difference in the above. BTW, the graphic is showing the default double rowed toolbox configuration.

Contacts ok on mac & iphone, but missing in icloud

Something strange happened. My contacts on Mac and iPhone are the same but on the icloud website some are missing. I think the most recent added after I updated to Mountain Lion are missing. But I am not 100 percent if this did not already happen before.
So contacts created on the mac show up on the iphone but NOT on the icloud site
Contactes created on the iphone show up on my mac but not on the iphone website
And groups to which I added contacts on the mac show up twice on my iphone, one old group with the contact not added and one new group with the contact added. On my mac I have only one version of that group.
On the iphone website the group is the old one with no added contacts.
Any idea what to do except back up frequently and archive my contacts every day?

I'd wait. iCloud (or parts of it) seems to be down today (check the other icloud forums for more posts on email problems). Perhaps your problem is due to the down servers. The day may come back - check for posts that claim iCloud is back up.

PSE 6 Missing Photos How Can I merge ALL photos to PSE6?

I have three versions of elements on my pc..

PSE4
PSE6
in all the programs there are photos missing with the (?) or the torn photo image..
in PSE6 when I click on the (?) the program searches and finds the photo quickly BUT I dnt want to do that for thusands of photos.
I WANT to free up space on my hard drive and delete copies of my photos and ran a duplicate photo program which found some photos to have as many as 6 copies most have doubles..
I have 54,000 files of photo duplicates and about 120GB of space taken up.
I am sure that is double the amount of actual photos but as I started to delete the ones with 5-6 duplicates first saving just one copy I realized the
duplicate finder is not perfect...sometimes the one duplicate to be saved is in an odd location compared to the ones it listes as the duplicates.
I have deletd about 5,000 duplicates so far and got back about 10GB of space on my hard drive but I am afraid I am making it harder for the PSE6
to find all the photos. There is a one click button that will highlight ALL the duplicates and delete them in one swoop but I am worried PSE6 will not be able to find them and with just a (?) and a date I have no idea what photo is missing or how to find it.
I just deleted a trial version PSE6 and was finally able to install the one I was given on CD.
but when it loaded hundreds of photos have the (?) and so I opened ALL 3 versions of PE to see if the photos are still on my hard drive or if I deleted
them with this duplicate finder program.
I really just want to have ALL the photos in ONE place and delete the early versions of PSE4 and starter but I am afraid I will be deleting the photos
that are loaded in that catalog....

The advantage of this method is that you can control which duplicate you want to delete based on catalog information (e.g. one duplicate may have been tagged, the other not). And you don't need to worry about reconnecting files after you delete.

I was given a mac with apps missing how do i get them back?

i was given a power mac G4 with the os x 10.5.8 operating system and i was wanting to know if there is an update for this version, because i was trying to put the missing apps that where deleted when i received it back on here but when i download them and install them i get an error message and can't use them.
I need these apps because I run my own Christian entertainment company/record label and i switch from pc to mac and need the apps that are missing.
I guess my question is, is my system able to be upgraded so i can install and use the missing apps again?

For music I don't think there is much like GB without costing an arm & a leg, I'd maybe look for a used iLife Disc which contain GB & others.

Missing new filters in 5.1.2

hi
it seems i am missing some new filters in FCP, like " line art " [stylize].
i am running the most updated versions of FCP studio.
as i understand, these filters were supposed to be part on the newest version.
is there any install invloved?
how do i get the new filters ?

What is your Effects -> Effect Availability set to, inside FCP? Try setting it to All Effects.
You could also try trashing the FCP preferences. That can easily be done with FCP Rescue or FCP Attic, or you can do it manually. Remember to quit FCP before you trash your preferences.

Organizer- Not Bridge on Mac PSE version 9

I have updated my classroom iMacs with Photoshop Elements version 9. And now I have Organizer rather than Bridge (as in version 8).
And I hate it.
Q.1 Can I (and my students) buy and use a version of Bridge that can work with PSE 9 from Adobe?
Q.2 If not, how can I at least do two things:
A. Show all my images on the screen with the file name rather than the date ????? I want the names of the images in the folders under the images.
B. Open the image in PSE (for editing) when I click on the image in Organizer (rather than a 3 step process).
There are some nice, new feature in PSE 9 for Macs --- but Organizer is NOT one of them.

My only real fear here is that Adobe will make Organizer the default with PS CS6 .....
That’s unlikely Dick; especially with the introduction of mini bridge in creative suite products.

Either render your AE project and replace the footage or use Dynamic Link. You must go through some of the getting started materials and help files before you can effectively use After Effects.
