Mac Refuse, Windows Run It Correctly !!

Hello Guys,
I'm connecting through an ethernet connection in the hotel, and connecting through Safari browser.
the problem is, the Mac OS X softwares refuse to get connected to the internet, like iWeb, iChat, MSN Messenger and Skype, But safari works fine.
when i switch to Windows XP, everything run perfectly.
Is there any chance to get my problem fixed? because I'm staying here for month maybe and can't use Windows forever !

Leopard is quite demanding of the router's security. While Tiger and PCs may connect, Leopard usually requires the router to have the latest firmware updates. Since this is beyond your control, there may not be much you can do.
If you can connect with Safari but not other apps, that may mean that the router is only allowing port 80 to be used by you. Other apps probably use other ports which may be blocked, for security reasons.
I suggest contacting the hotel IT people and seeing if you can work something out with them, if you cannot solve the problem directly with your computer.
As someone else has noted, turn off the Leopard firewall. That's really about all you can do.

Quality of Display - Mac Vs Windows

Am running WIndows 7 using bootcamp on m Mac and I have observed the difference in quality of display between Mac and Windows running on same machine. While working on Mac your eyes dont feel strained while in Windows its the other way round.
Also the text looks more crisp in Mac than in Windows. Any reason in difference, though both are running on same hardware.

On the thread subject, like to note that I ran across this issue a short while back and there is an impact due to the hardware being used while experimenting with my Late 2011 15" MBP with widescreen antiglare option. Installed the gfxCardStatus utility that lets you know which of the two GPUs is in use and/or force a specific mode.
Ran VMWare Fusion normally and determined that it caused a switch to the Radeon GPU, regardless of the VM settings. Then, since I needed to run the MBP on battery for an extended period, decided to force the Intel GPU and ran Fusion again. The hypervisor loudly complained about being "unable to provide adequate graphics support to the VM and how some graphics capabilities would be impacted in the guest system". On the Windows XP VM, when running lean on the Intel GPU, images such as the background, icons, etc., did seem granier than when on the Radeon GPU. Text was ok, but did feel as if something was a bit "off". Even though screen resolution was maintained at the native 1680x1050 at all times
But nothing crashed or burned, XP worked fine. And battery life was significantly extended.
Will experiment with VirtualBox & Win7.

The volume keys on my Logitech K760 wireless keyboard do not work with my 2.3 GHz, Intel Core i5 Mac mini which runs Mac OS X 10.7.4. Anyone know how to correct this without having to re-code firmware?

My first post to the Apple Support Community so it looks like all I wanted to know is covered in the title. The research I have done led me to solutions that I am not comfortable trying for fear of irreparably damaging my keyboard and/or Mac mini. Does anyone have a simpler solution? Please? Hellooooo?

Thank you for the response. Unfortunately, I could not figure out how to work the above applications. I thought that i had managed to assign the appropriate function keys in Spark to their volume counterparts, but it had no effect. Below is a screen shot. Do you see anything amiss?

Mac Mini Lab Running Windows 7 - Wake On Lan

Hi All
I have a number of Mac Mini labs running Windows 7 64bit. Prior to having Mac Minis we had straight PC's and WOL worked perfectly. Now we cannot get WOL to work at all. These are straight PC's now, not bootcamped Mini's. Anyone got any advice on how to get WOL to work at all.

Why can you run windows on a mac, but not mac on windows

I dont understant why you can run windows on a mac, but not mac on windows. Any help. I would purchase OS X Mountain Lion if you gave me a way.

Microsoft builds software to run on other companies' hardware, pretty much exclusively if you don't count the long line of failed devices: Zune, Windows phone, and now the Surface.
Apple builds hardware. They support that hardware with their own operating system. It is designed to run only on their very tightly integrated hardware. Trying to write software for the plethora of crap being sold would be a failing proposition and would divert resources away from the great software they provide for their hardware customers.
The hardware and software are very well engineered to provide the best possible experience.
If you want to experience a Mac, buy a Mac.

CDs run without problem and until recently the DVD we have (all original no pirated copies) ran; we have used a CD cleaner disc to no avail.

I suggest an erase and install and use your backup for any important files you have.
Did you perform a disk check/repair and permissions repair and a PRAM zap before updating? While not required, they are usually necessary to avoid issues.
There are so many reasons for a bad install, that it is impossible to list them all.
Out-of-date software, drivers, etc, haxies, and other software can cause problems.
My three updates were without incident, so it is possible for a perfect update, but unless you supply us with details about your previous system, programs, apps, drivers, etc., it is not possible to figure out what happened.
Again, whenever installing an update to an OS, a clone or other full backup is absolutely necessary, as reading the posts on this board indicate.

Mac Air 13 running Windows 7 not properly recognizing external monitor

My Macbook Air 13 running Windows 7 Pro through Bootcamp is no longer properly recognizing an external Apple 27 inch monitor since the latest package of windows updates. When plugged in, the external display duplicates that of the laptop (both being identified as screen "1") and both at resolution 800x600. Attempts to reset resolution to appropriate levels fails. Also function to restore to an earlier date/update point won't oblige, claiming unatohrized and "catastrophic failure." Any suggestions?

This a work around and its work for now untill Parrellel provide a fix for thier programe.
CPU throttle will work for this issue by scalling down the process for your Parrellel for mac. Just remember anything you want to use your parrellel you have to run cputhrottle script in your terminal
Start Active Monitor on your MAC and pay attention to prl_vm_app CPU usage
Note that when you start using your windown on your mac via parrellel the prl_vm_app cpu usage runs over 100 and when that happens your mac start to get hot and by keeping this down using cpu throttle your mac stay cooler and doesnt get hot.

Open a terminal on your mac and run ./cputhrottle pid 50 (you can check your PID for prl_vm_app running active monitor on mac)
The value 50 can be decrease or increase but remember the more you increase value your mac will start to run hot so keeping at 50 is recommended.
I know this issue have been around for a while and this will help keeping your Mac cooler when running parrelle on mac

Whart exactly are you having problems with?
Installing Boot Camp, manually updating the B.C. Drivers, Apple software update updating the drivers, or Windows Software updates?
You will or have a full Windows install. _ALL_ Microsoft Windows software is through Microsoft or 3rd partys. Apple just supplies the drivers for their hardware to be run in Windows.

Underneath the hardrive picture is a link for _Downloads_, it shows up as an error in my browser but when i put in "Boot Camp" in the "Search Downloads" bar I got a large list.

You mean you don't want to dual boot to run the program in Windows?
Have you looked in the Boot Camp forum? you can run the software already natively in Windows. Parallels just lets you run Windows under or side by side with Mac OS (sharing memory and processing resources).
Parallels of course uses the SAME Windows partition you already have (usually, unless you want to buy and install a 2nd copy of Windows and create a VM).

There is no absolute need to isolate Windows from your Mac.
You do, however, have to protect the Windows side of your computer with antivirus and antimalware software.
You can decide on the level of integration.
You can share a specific folder to move files between the two operating systems.
You can just drag and drop files between OSX and Windows without creating a shared directory.

Critical Kernel error while on windows partition, now neither mac or windows will boot help ?

Hi I was on my windows side of my mac when i got the blue-screen-of-death with something saying Critical Kernel Error, weird noises from the speakers and the macbook pro did a hard shut off.
Since then I can no longer boot into the mac or windows side (both are stuck infinitely loading). I ran disk utility on the mac side and I have an "Invalid Node Structure." Which disk utility cannot repair. I do have DiskWarrior on another mac to try and rebuild the mac partition through a firewire connection - i think that is the correct course of action ?
But does this mean my windows partition is likely gone or any idea what went on ? As I am terribly confused that while on my windows side I had an error that messsed up both partitions.
Or what to check for so this hopefully doesnt happen again if it is a hardware problem? My drive smart status is listed as "OK" and I cant seem to run the Apple Hardware test as upon attempting to get into it the laptop just shuts off while loading it, although I read somewhere the Apple Hardware test is no longer preloaded on macbook pros.
The system in question is a 15" macbook pro bought around July 2011.

Alright I have both my mac side and windows side repaired and functioning fine. Should I still be concerned ? Linc I know you are saying this is a drive malfunction but is there a way I can be sure ? I still cannot run AHT (restart, hold down D), and my laptop shipped with Lion installed so I believe it should run. It just boots into the mac side when I hold D..

I am using windows xp on my macbook (snow leopard). I came across some dealers who say that there are hard disks for mac only and for both mac and windows. So, I wanted to buy a hard disk so that I can use it both on mac and windows xp, so what type of hard disk should I use? Must I partition into 2?
or are there any harddisk in the market which is compatible for both mac and windows xp without screwing up the format(NTFS/Mac OS X Journaled)? Pls look into this matter and help me with it.

Once in a very long while Apple will have customized firmware on drives, and it is possible to find SCSI/SAS or drives that are destined to be used with high end storage controllers.
But that is the exception that makes the rule.
SATA is SATA. Though.... there are now SATA III drives that don't work in XP, or that need a jumper, and Seagate and some drives have managed to deliver firmware that has caused trouble... and Apple has had to issue firmware updates to help compatibility....

My library is on a NAS and managed by iTunes on a Mac. I can connect from wife's Windows laptop using iTunes for Windows but every time I do, it Updates iTunes Library. Next time I log in from my Mac it Updates iTunes Library in return. It appears I'm experiencing "Update Wars" between the Mac and Windows versions of iTunes. I would like to allow my wife to stream iTunes songs to her new laptop but I don't want any updates from this source... prefer to manage the library from my Mac and not allow Windows to do any thing other than listen to existing playlists.

Connect the PC to the library on the NAS. Wait while "updated".
Under Edit > Preferences > Advanced make sure the media folder is correctly pointed at the media folder on the NAS. If not correct, close iTunes, wait a few moments, then open iTunes again.
Close iTunes on the PC. Do not open iTunes on the Mac.
Copy the library files, iTunes Library.itl, iTunes Library Extras.itdb, iTunes Library Genius.itdb, sentinel and the folder Album Artwork into an empty iTunes folder on the PC, for example C:\iTunes.
Click the icon to start iTunes and immediately press and hold down SHIFT. Keep holding until prompted to choose or create a library. Click choose and browse to the copied .itl file, e.g. C:\iTunes\iTunes Library.itl
The library should now work properly on the PC, however check the setting for the media folder. If needs be correct, close iTunes and reopen.
Open iTunes on the Mac. It will update again, but that should be last time.

Is it possible to find the creation date of a CD/DVD burned on Mac OS 8.6 either on newer mac or Windows machine?

I am cataloguing lot of my old music and data cds/dvds. Some of these were created on my old Mac (OS 8.6). I was wondering if there was a way to check the metadata on these discs on my current Windows machine or on a Mac that I have at work to get this information. When I pop the CD and DVDs into the windows machine the dates that show up in the explorer window are actually older than the burn. I assume this is the CD creation date and not the burn date. It's not a huge deal, but it would help me delve deeper into nerd-dom!

One approach would be to have access to a Mac that can run the classic environment or has a pre OS X native installation. These should be able to read the files for dates of creation/modification. There is also SheepShaver that runs on OS X machines.
