  • Using a single Mac Remote with multiple devices

    Hi
I have a Mac Remote which i use to control my MacBook Pro, however I also have a universal dock, and when my iPhone is connected to it, using the Mac Remote on my MacBook pro will also start affecting the iPhone as they are in close proximity of each other
Is there a way you can switch between which device the remote controls?
    thanks

I'm not sure that Tuttle's answer is quite the answer you're looking for. Sounds like you sometimes want the remote to control the iPhone in the dock, while other times you want it to control the MBP. If that's correct, there's really only one decent option: two remotes. Both devices should have come with a remote, so you should already have two. You can [pair one with the computer|http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1619] and [pair the other with the dock|http://support.apple.com/kb/TA23708?viewlocale=en_US]. You'll need to label the remotes somehow so you can tell which is which.
Alternately, of course, you could just change the pairing every time you want to switch devices, but that seems like a bit of a pain to me.

It's possible to transfer licenses but it must be done by contacting a Customer Service representative by phone or web chat. They'll probably have you submit a form.

It depends on what country you're in and whether or not they're still available in the iTunes Store. Some purchased movies and all rentals won't be available.

  • G4 power brick with Intel mac mini?  is this possible just to test?

A friend gave me an Intel mac mini, 1.60GHz CPU model, but no power supply.
I tried using my G4 mac mini's 85W A1105 power supply on the intel mac mini but nothing happens. I have to unplug the power supply from the wall to get it to power on my G4 mac mini (it apparently doesn't like being plugged into the intel mac mini).
Is it possible to use the G4 2005 power supply with the Intel mac mini if only to just test to see if the intel computer works? I don't want to buy a MA407LL/A 110W intel mac mini power supply only to find that the computer he gave me is broken.
Just wondering if anyone had any tips/ideas how to tell if the Intel mac mini works at all or if I'm just going to have to find someone who has the 110W intel model supply to test it...

The G4 mini power supply is rated at a significantly lower current capacity than the Intel mini requires, thus while some have had marginal success in using an old supply with a newer system, almost any tolerance variation will mean the Intel box won't run with the G4 supply. Not only that, but since the Intel system will load the G4 supply at a level it was not designed to accommodate, you could damage your G4 supply by trying.
If you have an Apple store in your area, I would take the Intel mini to the genius bar there where it can be tested, thus avoiding you having to buy a new supply without knowing if it will work.

  • RD Gateway issue from Mac Remote Desktop client - 503 RPC Error: c0021012

I have an employee who is able to use the Mac Remote Desktop client to connect to her office PC via RD Gateway, but after a short time she consistently has her connection dropped with a
503 RPC Error: c0021012.  I've researched this a little and apparently it refers to an expected shutdown condition (RPC_P_CONNECTION_SHUTDOWN) rather than a true RPC "exception".  Also, the error almost always occurs exactly
10 minutes after the connection is established, so I'm wondering if a timeout is occurring due to a heartbeat/keepalive not getting through, the expiration of a token or credential, or something similar(?).  Any help would be appreciated, here's a section

  • Can you wake up your Mac remotely to control it from iPod using VNC app?

I have the VNC app that allows you to connect to your Mac or PC and control it from your iPod. Your iPod screen displays a miniature version of you computer and by using a selection of tools you are able to do everything on you Mac remotely. The problem is that when you go away or are away from your computer you don't want to have to leave it running continuously so the preferred option is to let it sleep and wake it up remotely when you need to access it. I tried calling Skype on my Mac from another computer but either just leaves a message or rings but doesn't bring the Mac out of sleep mode. This little VNC app is amazing and very useful only if I can get my Mac to wake up so I can connect to it. If not, great app but useless... at least for me.
    Anyone have any ideas?
    Kev

How about using SSH to remote secure shell into your Mac? That might wake it up.
Touchterm is the touch app to use for ssh.

  • Where is the connection information stored for Mac Remote Desktop?

I want to restore Mac Remote Desktop connection information from a Time Machine backup to a new Mac.  On the new Mac, I've installed Remote Desktop from the App Store and installed all the files found in
    ~/Library/Containers/com.microsoft.rdc.mac from
a Time Machine backup.  But I don't see my old connections.  I also don't see any connection information in my Time Machine backup here
    ~/Documents/RDC Connections.
Where is the connection information stored?

The path is correct. You could try to get an console log during application launch. This log might give you information why the information is missing.

  • Connecting to an Intel Mac remotely

I was wondering if it is possible to use my old Mac iBook running 10.4.11 to connect to an Intel Mac running Snow Leopard remotel?   I would like to be able to control the iBook similar to how I can control my iBook remotely with my Intel Mac using Screen Sharing?  I used to be able to use my old B&W G3 Mac to control my work PC so I know it might be possible.  I just can't remember the software I used. Any ideas or suggestions?  Thanks!

    Hi Jeffrey,
    One posibility is LogMeIn...

  • Connecting to mac remotely

Work for a large corporation. The apple computers here at work a updated and monitored by the engineers here. I have been trying to use the screen sharing option in Snow Leopard via these instructions here to connect to my home computer from the G5 at work.
    http://www.farawaymac.com/mac-server/screen-sharing-remote-access-with-leopard/
Haven't been able to connect yet. What would be some possible causes of not being able to connect. Also do I enter my internal or external ip address for the home computer I'm trying to connect to?
I know my corporation has some sort of firewalls in place- but would this affect and outgoing signal rather than an incoming one?

This is very straightforward if you are familiar with SSH and networks, and extremely awkward if you are not. If you fall into the latter category, I'd suggest you use a commercial solution like Back To My Mac, Log Me In, etc.
If you are in the former category...
    1. If you really want to be secure, setup SSH on your Mac to refuse passwords and only accept certificate-based logins (you do this as you would for any UNIX system; OS X provides no GUI or setting for it -- don't forget to generate a certificate to use from work and put the public key in your home .ssh/authorized_keys file).
    2. Enable Remote Connection and Screen Sharing in the Network preferences on your home Mac.
    3. Configure your home router to forward some port on the WAN to the SSH port on your LAN. I use the sstandard SSH port, but it's up to you.
    4. Note the IP address of your WAN and, optionally, setup a service like DynDNS to automatically assign a DNS name to your home computer.
    5. Make sure the public-key you have installed on your home machine matches the private-key on the machine you are going to use at work (if you use keys instead of passwords; if not, make sure that you use a really strong password).
    6. Use SSH from work to tunnel VNC from your work computer to your home computer. The VNC port is 5900, so it would look something like this:
    ssh -t -t -C [email protected] -L 5901:localhost:5900
    7. Then you can open a screen sharing session from Terminal.app or a script like so:
    open vnc://localhost:5901
... one other step that I take personally is that I leave my home machine asleep. I have setup my router to forward wake-on-lan messages to the LAN broadcast address so that I can wake my computer remotely. It's considerably harder to crack into a system that spends most of it's time asleep. A prospective cracker would need to find the port to send a WoL signal too, figure out the target system's MAC ID number to send a WoL message, and then they'd be able to try and guess my 2048-bit SSH key.

  • Using iPod for data transfer from windows to a Mac... is this possible?

    ok here's the situation.
my room mate has a (video) iPod 30G colour screen and everything. she has downloaded a show (not from iTunes) on her laptop using windows. We want to use her iPod to transfer the data from that show onto my computer which is an iMac G5 Intel Core Duo.
We connected the iPod to my computer but it was not recognized. Is this because her iPod is formatted for Windows or is there possibly another reason?
if anyone could help that would be great.
    thanks

From what I know, windows will not recognize the complicated data of a mac formatted device; hence not recognizing it. Macs can recognize a windows formated ipod though, so if you decide to reformat it on windows, then you can use it on both computers. If you dont though, looks like you are out of luck, sorry.
    Hope I helped.
