Have you looked to see how much free memory there is? If memory is low then the machine will spend lot's of time swapping memory to disk. Open the program "Activity Monitor" (in "Applications/Utilities/"):

My mac has been running very slowly, and there has been several other problems as well. I have a early 2009 iMac, running OS X 10.9.5. First of all, I have recently moved all of my photos and music to an external hard drive to clear up the internal hard drive, and Time Machine is also backing up to an external hard drive, and the internal hard drive is now about 60% free. I thought that would be able to get my Mac to run quicker, but it is still has slow as it was before. I have read recent community posts on what to do about this, one suggested downloading Etresoft to get a report on the condition of my mac. I ran Etresoft (I honestly don't know what to make of anything in the report), and the report is here:

In addition, you need to install more RAM into your iMac.
Your year and model IMac can take a max. total of 8 GBs of RAM.
I strongly recommend that you purchase and install the maximum amount of RAM.

Hi All,
I am using a Mac Mini at work and it is running very slowly at the moment. General tasks are ok, but anythng video related (youtube is a nightmare to use) is super slow, and when closing it down it often takes several attepts as it seems to hang.
I am running MAC OS X 10.6.8 have 4GB of RAM
I have plenty of space on the HDD
Any thoughts would be appreciated.

My older mac book pro and iMac are both running 10.6.8 and both have started running safari and email VERY slowly. My new mac book pro running 10.9 is having no issues. Is anyone else experiencing these issues?

Garage Band '11: pop-up error forces me to power off-on. Message states that info will be sent to Apple.
I never hear back from anyone about this.
Second prob: Fan sometimes comes on, runs high speed, then slowly runs down and stops running.First thing to do is a SMC Reset, you can find instructions at:

READ THE INSTRUCTIONS CAREFULLY!!!!
Then try Repairing Disk Permissions, do this at least 2x. You will find this in Disk Utility which is located in Applications - Utilities - Disk Utility.
Finally you may need to uninstall Garage Band and reinstall. You may have to use Pacifist to do this, you can find it at:

My mac is slow, the movies run slowly, the kernel_task consumes 463,3 MB of memory, how can I fix this?
The problem started a few weeks ago with a small decrease in speed, and the videos now crash while the sound remains normal. When I open the Finder or any file it seems that I'm opening the windows with the hourglass spinning. I've already cleaned temporary, removed everything that was saved on the table, I made up for the mountain lion. I've got a late 2006 mac mini which has begun to run extremely slowly. It has 2GB of RAM and is running OS X 10.6.6. I also have an external 500gb drive connected via USB (firewire 400 cable failed some time ago; haven't bothered to replace).
I've tried numerous things to address the issue and am now looking for suggestions. Here is what I have done so far:
- Verified both disks and repaired disk permissions using Disk Utility
- Used Applejack to clear all caches (including low level)
- Tested the RAM using Applejack (uses Memtest)
- The main drive has over 53GB of 80GB free
- When I look at the activity monitor, the CPU is never even close to pegged
- More than half the RAM is unused
Still when I run iTunes, songs will pause and resume mid-way through. The computer boots very slowly. Larger programs, like Firefox and iTunes load very slowly. There can be long waits in switching from one running program to another.
Any suggestions?

Additionally, can somebody tell me where I can download the Apple Hardware Test (AHT), or images of the install disks that came with the computer? I cannot find the original disks.Any recommendation on what to do with this Man Mini to make it after, besides changing the HHD to an SSD?

Hello everyone. My Mac is running very slowly when I am using the internet, and especially when on Facebook. The little rainbow globe spins around for ages before changing pages etc. I have done several virus checks etc, but cannot find anything wrong. Sorry, but I am not tech savvy, so have difficulty with these issues.
Thanks for your reply. Well, I am not sure about the OS X version, I just gave that info from the Install DVD. I have the machine on automatic updates so I guess I am using a newer version. I know it is iMac Snow Leopard and I bought it in 2009. It is the 21.5 inch model. That is all I can tell you. I have 499GB and have used only 32GB, so it isn't a space problem.

Why is my mac mini running so slowly
My mac mini has been running great until yesterday when it started running very very slowly. Any program whether on the internet or on the mac mini i run takes 10 times as long to load , any keystroke i make is delayed in appearing on the screen.
I ran etrecheck which highlighted the system launch daemons. I am not sure what to do with this information or if this may even be the problem.
Please let me know if you have any suggestions.

My Mac Mini runs very slowly. I upgraded memory but it didn't help. Wi-Fi is very fast with other computers in sae location so I don't think that is the issue. Ideas?
