Mac's requesting net time every 30 seconds

We are having an issue with every Mac trying to update it's time every 30 seconds (we can see the network traffic). Is there any way to set this to once a day, or turn it off completely?
Thanks.

Go to the Date & Time preference pane, and unclick "Set date & Time automatically" to disable the behavior.
Unless it's failing to see its time server and trying multiple sites, it should just be issuing normal NTP traffic.

  • Mac Mini Mid-2010 Beeping every five seconds - HD Upgrade

I upgraded my Mac Mini Server (Mid-2010) with two 480 GB SSD drives tonight. The drives are Intel (ssdsc2bb480g401) drives. I know the mid-2010 mini runs at 3 GB/s and the drives I put in are 6 GB/s.
I thought the drives would work and just run at 3 GB/s. I'm getting a constant beep and LED flash every 5 seconds. I'm thinking the drives are not compatible.
Anyone else run into this problem?
I see a bunch online about memory upgrades related to beep sequences, but the memory is the original 4GB.  No change there.
    Thanks!

    den.thed,
Thanks.  I have done that a few times already with no luck.  I just pulled the top module out and the computer booted.  I pull the bottom module out and replaced it with the top one and it booted.
That tells me both modules are working.
I think put the extra back in the top slot and the beeping comes back.  I have reseated a few times and still get the beep.  Maybe a bad slot?  Dammm static electricity is the only thing I can think of.

The internet connection fails about every 20 seconds or so, by timing out.  It is impossible to watch any streaming

    #1 Try going to http://192.168.1.1/ .
#2 If running the blue firmware, Choose Troubleshooting, and then click Transceiver Statistics.
#3 If using Verizon-branded firmware (should be Red and Black), go to System Monitoring, Advanced Monitors, and then choose Transceiver statistics.
#4 If you are prompted for a Username and Password at any time, try one of the following:
    admin/password
    admin/password1
    admin/admin
    admin/admin1

You could copy and paste the contents of it.
    This means...
    #1 Highlight the message.
    #2 Either:
    a) Go to Edit -> Copy
    b) Press the CTRL and C keys at the same time (if a PC, not Mac).
#3 Then when in reply, before you click on Post either:
    a) Go to Edit -> Paste
    b) Press the CTRL and V keys at the same time (if a PC, not Mac).
If using a Mac I am sure there are key board shortcuts, but I do not know what they are.
If you have a Mac when you go to Edit in your web browser, it will tell you what they are (so even I knew, you could figure it out)
Just like when I was using Windows XP Home SP3 and now I am using ubuntu 10.0.4 LTS on my PC.

    how can i fix this?
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

This is caused by the failure of one of your cartridges.  Remove the black cartridge and print a test page.  Does the printer print at normal speed?  Is so the black cartridge was the issue and should be replaced.  If not then put the black cartridge back in and remove the color cartridge and print test page.  If the printer now prints normal speed the color cartridge was at fault and needs to be replaced.

  • IPod doesn't turn on, doesn't respond, its screen flashes every ten seconds

Hello. Yesterday, my iPod's battery was discharged. I charged it for about 10 minutes. After that, I listened to some music until the battery discharged again. I didn't connect the iPod again to my PC. Several hours later, I noticed something strange: the screen was, every ten seconds, giving a fast flash of light that only lasted like half a second. I tried every button (I checked that the iPod wasn't in Hold mode) but it didn't do anything and the flash of light continued. Then, I connected the iPod many times to the PC, each time in a different USB slot. Nothing happened. No message of recognition from the PC or from the iPod. It's like I didn't connect it. I tried in another PC, but the result was the same. I tried to reset it, but it didn't do anything. It simply doesn't work. Can you help me? Why does the screen of the iPod turns on and off for so little time every ten seconds without me doing anything for that to happen? Why doesn't the iPod work? Thanks

I'm having this exact same problem, except that occasionally I'll get "please wait, very low battery."
Otherwise, the Apple logo comes up and the screen brightens up, and at the same time I can HEAR the drive inside whirring up, but then it just quits... Only to try again!

I clicked on iMessage on my Macbook Pro today for the first time, and now NOTES keeps opening up every 5 seconds, with a new note.  I cannot stop it from opening. If I close it or force close, it opens again in 5 seconds.  I can't get rid of it.  I have tried to clear out the iMessage settings I had put in, and I've tried to adjust the Accounts to not include notes to synch.  But, Notes will not stop.  It opens a new note, and even if you ignore it, it assumes preference every 5 seconds, and the Mac is impossible to use.

Do you have any Boot Camp or other secondary partitions set up on your system? If so then try running a disk verification routine (chkdsk, etc.) in Windows to repair the disk. While I've not heard of it happening recently, in the past errors in these partitions have resulted in stubborn ghost files appearing in OS X.

I have looked at the documentation for timers, which can be done either using java.util.Timer or java.swing.Timer but I am having some compilation errors. For my project, it would be best if I was using the java.util.Timer as there will be no GUI for my game.

  • My Network of Macs keep broadcasting to udp port 8612 every few seconds

This problem was answered nicely by "Hunter3740" and Apple archieved it....It is still valid/needed for Mountain Lion!
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/2464784?start=0&tstart=0
Here is how to stop your Mac from broadcasting to udp port 8612 every few seconds without using a Terminal WIndow:
Under Utilities (In Applicatiopn Folder) launch the Activity Monitor, then show "All Processes" and find the one named "CIJScannerRegister.app" and hit the Stop Sign (Quit Process).
Then follow this Machintosh HD--->Library-->Image Capture--->Support--->LegacyDeviceDiscoveryHelpers---->then throw "CIJScannerRegister.app" in the trash and empty it.
    Bingo...the broadcast stops.
Apple:  Can you fix this turd with a system update?

Is there a chance that someone has installed some kind of
software on the computer that is trying to "call home?"
The app known as Little Snitch can tell what may be in there
and if it is responsible for these odd network calls out.
How is the port security set up in the Mac? And why would
those ports need to be open unless there was a real purpose?
With my Macs, all of the ports in Firewall are closed to access
except for the Network Time Server to keep the clock correct.
    {Some are used to share files between computers, & to chat; etc.}
Do you have more than two user accounts in the computer, and
if so, is your Admin account only used to update and maintain
the OS X & to install apps for other users? The levels of security
in Mac OS X can be controlled; and such odd port calls if or when
there is no need, are signs that something is not quite right.
Have you looked into the Console utility to see what is causing the
hang at those time intervals you know this has happened? There
are several different logs and reports in there; some won't apply.
Do the children who use the computer, have access to or know the
Admin account's password? A second user, from their account, can
install software and do other things, if that password is available.
I noticed you had a similar post last month that appeared to go without
a reply; now it is locked and can't be replied to anyway. So this issue
has been going on for some time. What may have happened in the past
year or so, to start this issue in that computer? Something, for certain.
    Good luck & happy computing!

  • I believe OS 10.10.2 is causing my mac to freeze every few seconds.

For the last two weeks or so, my MacBook Pro (2011) has been freezing every few seconds. I can barley type this now. When I pull up Activity Monitor, it shows my memory running at 3.0+ out of 4 GB's. I've tried everything I could think of. My Mac is more of a internet surfing comp so I didn't mind reinstalling OS. It worked great for about 30 minutes then everything started to freeze again. Im curious if anyone else is having this issue and if anyone's figured out how to fix it. I ran a diagnostic on my ram and thats not the issue. Im to the point of upgrading my ram but i think it's dumb reverting to that when the 4 GB has been plenty for me in the past.
    Thank You.

  • How can I execute a command every 10 seconds in a specific time-frame

    Hello,
I would like to create a script which in a specific time-frame collects some outputs and also pings every 10 seconds.
To collect the outputs every minute from 22:00PM to 22:10PM I have the following:
    event manager applet snmp_output
    event timer cron cron-entry "0-10/1 22 * * *" maxrun 30
    action 010 cli command "enable"
action 020 cli command "show clock"
action 030 cli command "terminal exec prompt timestamp"
action 040 cli command "show snmp stats oid | append bootdisk:show_snmp_stats_oid.txt "
    action 045 wait 5
action 050 cli command "show snmp pending | append bootdisk:show_snmp_pending.txt "
    action 055 wait 5
action 060 cli command "show snmp sessions | append bootdisk:show_snmp_sessions.txt "
    acionn 065 wait 5
    action 070 cli command "end"
To confirm connectivity to the device doing the SNMP polls I would like to execute a ping every 10 seconds in the same timeframe.
Cron seems only to support minutes. Is it possible to combine a watchdog timer + a cron timer?
Can this ping function be incorporated in the SNMP output applet or will I have to write a new one?
Will I need TCL here (I have no experience in TCL)?
    Best regards,
    Tim

If you wanted the pings to run in parallel, you could have this applet configure another applet to do the pinging, then remove it on the last run.  This will require an amount of programmatic logic, though.  If you wanted to keep things a bit simpler, add another applet that runs at 22:00 that configures a watchdog pinging applet, then a third applet that runs at 22:10 that removes the pinging applet.
When it comes to embedded quotes when you configure your nested pinging applet, you'll need to use $q to stand for the embedded quotes.  You'll also need to configure:
    event manager environment q "
