Mac safari won't keep my logged in

My mac's safari will not keep me logged into sites that I clicked "keep me logged in" with. It used to but once I downloaded the newest software for my Mac it doesn't anymore. Instead, when I open a page it'll keep my username and password in the given boxes but I have to click sign in every time.

i'm running windows xp but i think i found the equivelant file in C:\Documents and Settings\...\Application Data\Apple Computer\Preferences
i deleted this and it appears to have reset safari but once i close the broswer, it still won't keep me logged into twitter. thanks for your help, i hope you have more ideas lol

It just happened suddenly. Have reset Safari, cache and also changed my Yahoo password but problem is still there.

    I still don't understand what the problem that you are experiencing is. If you get to a page where yahoo is asking JUST for your password, and there is no box for username (it may have your username displayed, but not in a enter box), then you ARE "being kept signed in"  You can verify this by instead of entering your password, go to www.yahoo.com home page, and it will say something like "Hi, Amber"   This means you ARE signed in.
    When you get that page asking for just your password, you are NOT being asked to sign in again. You are simply being asked to verify/enter your assword an Nth time. If you get that page right after entering your username and password, try clicking the "back" (previous page) button. It might just go to your inbox.
    If this is the case, your problem has nothing to do with being kept signed in or not, the problem is that for some (unknown to me) reason, yahoo is asking you to re-enter your password, kind of like when your mac asks for your mac password when changing system settings. Yahoo does this as a safety feature when you go to account settings, and apparently abritary other times. I wish I understood just why I get it every time after signing in.
    It could be because I have java turned off. It could be because I don't accept third party cookies. Maybe a cache file. Or a hundred other things... I don't know. It could simply be yahoo is scrooing safari users. I have glanced at the html, but to really understand it, it would take me days. There are over 25 places where username and password are in the html "source" code of the yahoo login page, and even understanding that may not tell me. In the past, I have seen code essentiall saying "if IE x.3.2" do this, if chrome do that, if mozilla do something else, otherwise make it next to impossible...."
    My problem is not only I get asked for my assword a second time, but also (and only very recently) I do not get a prompt to save username and pasword. I have gone to yahoo help pages to try to figure it out, and I feel like I just run in circles. If one wants to send a question in, they have to answer half a dozen questions disclosing private information. And I pay yahoo $20/year. grrr
    If when you are trying to access your yahoo mail and you are being asked to enter both your username and password, but didn't sign out of yahoo, then indeed your are not being "kept signed in"

  • Funny - Safari won't let me log in Apple Discussions forums.

    Funny - Safari won't let me log in Apple Discussions forums. I need to log on with Firefox to wright this massage.
    Do you guys have any clue why I can't log on with Safari?
    My current version of Safari is 5.0.3

    Good advice, Dixmaxim.
    If you still have problems after getting rid of the cookies,
    check back to see if your real name or password has any accented letters,
    like ø, etc. If so, replace with un-accented letters. Just a thought.
    This has been happening for several years now, and it is very embarrassing.
    I would have thought it would be fixed by now.

  • One website forum won't keep me logged in

    This forum has an 'automatically log me in each visit' check box that worked on previous versions of FF but won't work on the latest.
    I'm on a Mac.

    Websites remembering you and automatically log you on is stored in a cookie.
    * Create an allow cookie exception (Firefox > Preferences > Privacy > Cookies: Exceptions) to keep such a cookie, especially for secure websites and if cookies expire when Firefox is closed.
    Make sure that you do not run Firefox in Private Browsing mode.
    * https://support.mozilla.com/kb/Private+Browsing
    In [[Private Browsing]] mode all cookies are session cookies that expire if that session is ended, so websites won't remember you.
    Do not use Clear Recent History to clear the "Cookies" and the "Site Preferences"
    * https://support.mozilla.com/kb/Clear+Recent+History
    Clearing "Site Preferences" clears all exceptions for cookies, images, pop-up windows, software installation, and passwords.

  • Internet Explorer 10 won't keep me logged in

    I installed Win 8, and I'm using IE10. But when I visit some of my favorite forums and web pages (forum.tauri.hu, prohardver.hu, etc.) and I choose the "Keep me logged in" option, after browser restart, or in mid browsing, I get logged out, and
    have to re log in. Using another browser, I don't have a problem, but on my laptop only IE can play 720p or 1024p Youtube videos fluently.
    I tried resetting, without success. But yahoo.com, live.com can keep me logged in.

    Hi yidalevan,
    Maybe you set “Delete browsing history on exit”. Please check your seetings:
    1. Open the Internet explorer;
    2. Open “Internet Options”;
    3. On ”General” tab, click “Delete…” under “Browsing history”;
    4. Uncheck “Passwords” and “Cookies and website data”;
    5. On ”General” tab, click “Settings” under “Browsing history”;
    6. On “History” tab, set “Days to keep pages in history” as “20”.
    Then check the situation.
    Best regards,
    Karen Hu

    Could be the keychain is corrupted..
    Quit Safari.
    Open Keychain Access  /Applications/Utilities
    Select Passwords on the left.
    Type   AT&T   in the search field to locate that keychain(s).
    Then right or control click the keychain(s), click Delete.
    From the Keychain Access menu bar click Keychain Access > Keychain First Aid. Click Verify, if necessary, click Repair.
    Relaunch Safari. From the Safari menu bar click Safari > Preferences then select the Autofill tab.
    Make sure User names and passwords is selected.
    Now select the Privacy tab in Safari > Preferences. Click Details. Type  AT&T  in the search field then click Remove All > Done.
    Now disable the Lion resume feature.
    Open System Preferences > General
    Deselect:   Restore windows when quitting and re-opening apps
    Restart your Mac, try logging into the AT&T site.

  • Safari won't let me log in with my credentials

    When I use this forum in Firefox, I can log in with my credentials (email address, password) fine. When I try to use Safari to log in, it keeps wanting me to create a new account with my AppleID.
    Can I join these two sets of credentials? If so, how do i do that?
    If I cannot join these sets of credentials, how can I make Safari let me log in with the credentials I know work?

    Does your original account contain any accented letters or characters?
    This would be a system issue that needs to be addressed by Apple. If an account can be successfully created with accented letters, there shouldn't be any subsequent login errors, as text encoding and parsing should be the same in both cases.
    I think the problem may be more likely related to glitches on specific co-located servers, as may have been the case with the bouncing "Report this Post" messages that I reported in another thread.
    The case that ~Bee mentioned is being addressed and is not related to the configuration issue you are referring to.

  • Password/Keychain/Cookies: Safari is not keeping me logged in to my pages

    Something seriously screwy here...
    Safari will not stay logged in to certain pages during a session. This is most pronounced on sites like Facebook, where I have to log in every time and will be unable to comment on my own wall like 2 minutes later; I have to log in again. And just today, Safari was not accepting the correct login/pass from autofill –- Facebook would not accept the password unless I manually retyped it, and then Safari asked me if I wanted to save it for the site, even though it's already in the keychain! Other sites that usually log me in automatically with a cookie (like Netflix) no longer do so, while others work normally.
    This seems like a Keychain issue, no? I've already tried: repairing permissions, deleting the cookies .plist, deleting the keychainaccess.plist, and resetting Safari. Each results in only a temporary fix, and the problem eventually returns. I'm still on 10.5.6 and Safari 3.2.1, (MacBook Pro 2.8ghz) about to upgrade to 10.5.8 and v4. My big concern is that this problem will persist after the upgrade.

    Alright, well again I was able to resolve this on my own. Not sure how though.
    I started accepting the "Do you want to store this password..." requests and they started to stick finally. Facebook stays logged in now, even after quitting Safari. I've just upgraded to 10.5.8 and Safari 4.03, everything seems to be fine (knock wood). Marking this SOLVED for now.

  • Safari is not keeping me logged into websites.  Problem only began after most recent update (Yosemite 10.10 and Safari 8)

    Since updating to Yosemite 10.10 and Safari 8, Safari has not worked properly.  Safari used to automatically log me in to websites like amazon.com, Facebook, google, etc.  I would click on the bookmark, and I could immediately start browsing.  Now, I need to click the link, then click the username box, click on my username which autofills, and then login.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • Websites won't keep me logged on

    I used to be able to click on my Facebook, Pinterest, etc. icons and already be logged in. After installing ios7 I have to input username / password? How can I fix this?

    Hmmm, I'm having the same issue in safari on pages I'm signed into.
    It was saving my logins after the update, then it stopped doing that yesterday.
    I don't feel I should have to opt to save passwords, when this is a shared device.
    I see in settings > safari > privacy security >do not track. I have turned on.
    Let's both see if turning that off fixes it? If yours is turned on as well, that is.

  • Safari won't let me log in to a MOO that uses enCore Express 4.0.1

    In my uni course we are using a MOO hosted on one of the uni servers, based on the open source enCore Express program.
    It used to open up fine, but now refuses to let me in, and gives me "session expired" messages instead.
    I have checked and all the right boxes are checked to allow plug-ins and Java.
    Any clues??

    Safari 3 has cured this, but if you're still having problems then log in using the following link:

  • Per Yahoo, I have a cookie problem. Yahoo won't keep me logged in using Firefox 4.0.1

    Is there a Firefox 4.0.1 user who is also a Yahoo user who has figured out how to stay logged into Yahoo?
    According to other things I've seen on Firefox, my cookies are set correctly, and I'm allowing passwords to be saved on all sites with NO exceptions, but when I leave Yahoo, or simply brows in Yahoo, suddenly I have to log in again.

  • IChat won't keep me logged in

    its kind of strange... all of the messaging programs don't stay logged in or stop recieving messages every 10 minutes or so

    If your LAN IP is given out using DHCP I would look at the lease times (If it is all services)
    Web browsing and mail will not notice any breaks as the IP changes (or is checked) but IM apps will.
    I am not dropping AIM here running on two computers but suspect the AIM servers as more likely.
    If you are using the same screen name on several Clients also check the ability to do Multiple Logins.
    Does it coincide with a action in the Buddy List like some one coming or going Off Line ?

  • Firefox won't keep me logged into Facebook, even in Safe Mode?

    This problem has been bugging me, for God knows how long and I just can't get rid of it, unless I reset Firefox which is really not want I want to be doing just to get rid of this tiny, but irritating problem.
    Firefox never remembers to be signed in still to Facebook, even in Safe Mode without extensions.
    How can I get rid of this problem? If it isn't possible without resetting, I'd like a simple and concise tutorial on how to get all my extensions and settings back (however obviously not the one that keeps causing this problem). I've been using this Firefox profile for at least a good few years and it's all set up properly for my personal use. Thanks.

    firefox is able to keep different cookie settings on a per-site basis. those probably got cleared when you forgot the history about facebook. you can inspect the current permissions while you're on a site when you right-click it, go to ''view page info > permissions''. if you haven't changed that yourself intentionally, then i also don't really know what might have caused that - maybe an addon was interfering?

  • Mac book pro won't let me log on

    My mac book won't let me log on. It has the window for me to log in my password, but it will not let me type anything in. then the screen turns black. any advice?

    Please read this whole message before doing anything.
    This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
    The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, or by corruption of certain system caches.
    Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
    Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and  Wi-Fi on certain iMacs. The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
    The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin. Test while in safe mode. Same problem? After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.
