.Mac Screensaver broken

I have two machines at work, both Dual 2Ghz Power PC G5 with 2GB ram running 10.3.9
in Sys Prefs>screensaver i choose .mac, they are identically set. One plays all the images fine the other plays one image over and over again.
what should i do?

Hi Louis!
In System Preferences > Desktop & Screen Saver > Screen Saver: Look to see if the Use random screen saver option, is checked or unchecked. Adjust accordingly.
Also click on Options, and check what is selected.

  • Is my Mac mini broken?

Hi, Ive been trying to get my audio working with ichat and imovie to no avail.
I hook up my camera with a firewire cable, In ichat the video signal comes through fine but no audio. If I go to system preferences and choose the audio device it works there, but NOT in ichat. I then open imovie and can get video but no audio. So then I pull out my old ibook , plug in the firewire , open imovie and wahlah, everything works. This is how I remember apple to be, EASY. Is my Mac Mini BROKEN? Are there more steps I am missing?
    Help Kevin

    Hello Kevin,
Don't mean to jump in here, but, I've been around Mac's since 1984 and have only re-installed a system on one occasion when I knew I messed it up with an optimizing program that crashed before it was done.
Are you having any other issues with you system than you are describing above? Although it may resolve your problem you will not know why. As Andy-O once described it, it is like taking a "sludge-hammer" to solve the problem.
If you are not having other issues with your system then insuring that your preferences for those programs are set properly and that the camera is compatible with the OS and hardware in the Mini ( I don't know what you have on the portable) - it could be you may need a driver for it to work.

  • My Mac has broken and I want to sell it for parts. How can I be sure that my personal data that is/was on the hard drive is safe?

My 2006 MacBook Pro has broken. There is a little bit of drive noise when I turn it on, but then nothing happens. It is no big deal. Most of my files were backed up. There are a few files I would like to recover if possible, but nothing worth a major effort.
I have seen that broken MacBook Pro's go for about $300 on eBay for parts, so I would like to sell the MacBook Pro. However, I only want to do that after I am sure that my personal data is wiped out. Does anyone know how I can accomplish that? Does anyone know of an easy way to search the old hard drive for some of the data that I lost? Can a Genius Bar take care of this stuff for me (and how much do they charge?)?
    Thank you for your help.

The ONLY real secure way to be sure that noone may recover data from your drive is, to remove the drive, and drill one or two 1" holes thru the disk.
A bit less secure but useful way is, to wipe out the data with a tool that's overwrite all sectors of the drive with randomized data in multiple runs.
    For example: Permanent Ereaser http://www.edenwaith.com/products/permanent%20eraser/
Independent tests bring out, that even specialized recovery companies with forensic tools are unable to find useful data after such a run.

There are some recovery tools out there to fit your needs, e.g. MacKeeper http://mackeeper.zeobit.com/mac-data-recovery

  • Exporting bookmarks from a Mac with broken video

I can't export the bookmarks from the broken iMac because its video has failed, but I can access the contents of its HD over the network and can see the ...Library/Caches/Firefox/Profiles folder. It seems empty but Get Info tells me it contains 380.5 Mb.
I would like to somehow copy and paste the data onto a second Mac, over the network, then merge the two sets of bookmarks (but would settle with exporting the second Mac's bookmarks, then overwriting them with the iMac's, before re-importing the exported bookmarks to create a merged file).
Everything on the iMac is backed up on Time Machine if this helps, but I don't use iCloud.

In the Library/Caches/Firefox/ location only the disk cache and some other files are located.
You can find the main profile folder here:
    * /Users/<user>/Library/Application Support/Firefox/Profiles/<profile>/
In Mac OS X v10.7 and later, the $HOME/Library folder is a hidden folder.

  • POOF! my .mac screensaver can't be used? Can't use a folder of images?

I had computers set up to use a published slide show on .mac as a screensaver. Many people using the same set of images, which changed periodically. Nice.
With 10.6, that seems to not be an option, just Aperture and iPhoto batches, and Apple-installed generic screensavers.
How do I get back the ability to use the .mac slideshow or at least use my /images/ folder??

Click the + button under the list of screensavers and you get a drop down list of possible sources for an additional screen saver, there are three choices: a folder of pictures, a MobileMe gallery or an RSS feed. If you select MobileMe a drop down sheet appears and you enter the member name, click OK, and it checks the gallery and returns a list of available items with various options on how they are to be displayed. Check the ones you want available and set your preferences, click OK. The galleries then appear in the Screen Savers list: there is one for the User name, plus each gallery individually listed, they all have the cloud icon. Select the one you want to use.
That's the way it is supposed to work. However on my machine, while some of the online galleries do indeed show the content that is, well, online, there is one that shows an astonishing array of pix, none of which are actually in that gallery, or even online. The pix for that one include things that are not even in my iPhoto Library. I have no idea why.

  • Which is better when temporarily not using Mac - 'screensaver' or 'sleep'?

I manually invoke a screensaver when I won't be using my MacBook for a while (up to an hour or two) -- instead of putting it to sleep.
When I come back to use the computer again, with rare exceptions the hard drive doesn't rev up as it does when I return to use the Mac after putting it to sleep (either manually or by closing the case).
Is one of these better, in terms of wear and tear on the hard drive?
Also, does the fact that the computer's hard drive apparently does not rev up when use of the computer is resumed from the screensaver (rather than from 'sleep') mean that the hard drive has been spinning (idling) the whole time?
If so, is putting the computer to sleep preferable, since it essentially turns the hard drive 'off' rather than allowing it to spin the entire time that the computer isn't being used?
    Thanks.

When to choose sleep rather than screen saver.
When to choose sleep over shutdown.
I usually always let my display go to sleep and then my computer
go to sleep before my screen saver is set to start. I have it set this way for
both power adapter and battery. I have my screen saver setup with a
slideshow but seldom use it. I have it setup to require a passcode when
waking from sleep or screen saver. If I want to download a large update
that would take a couple of hours I choose never for computer sleep and
a couple of minutes for display sleep in both power adapter and battery.
I only shutdown my computer when I am done for the day. If I'm getting up
to make a fresh pot of coffee or something I close the lid eventhough I have
display sleep and computer sleep set.
These are my preferences and the way I like them. You should adjust these settings
on your MacBook so that it is comfortable for you to use.
I noticed that your MacBook is about 4 years old (early or late 2006 model). Are
you asking these "When To" questions to try to prolong the life of your computer's
hardware? If so, my best answer would be:
+Backup your important folders and media at least twice+. Hardware can fail at anytime.
I have read of 2 week old MacBook Pros being sent back to Apple for hardware
replacement. If you have Kernel Panics, questionmark, a blue or black screen; system
preferences set to what someone thinks will provide hardware longevity won't be as
useful as a good backup. I should have started this with an "in my humble opinion".
Limnos has already said that some will argue both ways on the wear and tear savings
    in an earlier reply.
Set your preferences to where they are most comfortable for you and enjoy using your
    computer.
    Kind Regards,
    A

  • ITunes Screensaver Broken after iTunes 11 update

After upgrading, the iTunes screensaver now only displays the most recently downloaded artwork (currently 1 album, 3 podcast backgrounds).
Anyone else experiencing this, or has in the past as it may just be coincidental with the update? And of course any solutions.

Mine won't even shut down, it hangs everything up, ignores the force feature and the only way i can reboot is to hold down the power button. I have come to the conclusion that my mac book was defective since day 1. I have given them 6 months to make it better and no go. So they are sending me a new one. Hopefully that should solve the problem. I started having problem right out of the box. They actually wanted me to allow some randon apple guy in shreveport to replace a motherboard on a mac book pro less that a week old. I said no, you have six months to figure this out or send me a new one. They six was up yesterday and my new one should be in the mail shortly. Apple's tech support is top notch.

  • Help finding Mac screensaver with scrolling text (Windows Marquee-esque)

I have been searching the internet somewhat intensely for a scrolling text screensaver for my Macbook. I found an Apple download called "message", but that is wayyy too fancy for me. I can barely even see the text with all of the crazy fonts and weird zooming. The emphasis is not on the text for that screensaver.
Something like the Windows Marquee would be fine, though I am sure somewhere out there is a tricked-out version for Mac. I would just want to be able to read the text clearly, as I intend to use the screensaver to help me to memorize some text.
Maybe I am overlooking an obvious screensaver already loaded on the Macbook, but I am surprised that Tiger does not come with such a screensaver. Any suggestions and links? Thank you

I think you should be able to find something that works for you using Quartz Composer. As an example, here is a link to someone else that was working on horizontal scrolling text. I don't know if their project got completed (or if it's currently included in Quartz Composer) but the .qtz file on this page will load in QuickTime so you can see the results as of this posting.
    http://www.mulle-kybernetik.com/weblog/2005/05/towardshorizontal_scrollingi.html
You get Quartz Composer by downloading the Xcode tools. I'm looking through the example libraries now to see if there's something you could use in the current examples.

  • Linking image files created in Mac are broken on PC and Vice Versa

    Hello,
A fellow designer and I are sharing Illustrator files in the office but she is on a Mac and I am on a PC. Our linking image files are located in multiple folders on our company server, but whenever we open each other's files, all the links are broken and have to be relinked due to our different operating platforms. This can be very time consuming since the images are in different folders and there are many of them.
Anybody know how to fix this PC/Mac problem without dropping all the linking files into the same folder as the .ai file? I'm not the IT guy so I don't think that rebuilding our server structure is an option either...would cause too much havoc around the office.
    Any help would be appreciated.

Let me ask you something does this sound like a viable way to work?
The way to do it is as you yourself suggest to work locally with all the files in one folder so you cannot break the links and that you know where the art is at all times.
If the IT thinks this is a good way to work then let them create a script to save all linked files to a common live folder for the project so that both computers can find it.
But from what you describe it is just looking for trouble and might be exactly what the IT wants trouble so they can extend their job. In which case ther is  no solution.

  • ITunes screensaver broken

A couple of weeks ago, my iTunes screensaver broke. It says my iTunes doesn't have any cover art. (But I do.)
Mac OS X 10.7.2. My iTunes library is on an external USB drive. It otherwise functions normally. I can play anything from the library, see cover art, etc. But when the OS X iTunes screensaver starts, it's just black with the message that my iTunes library has no cover art. I have tried restarting iTunes, restarting the computer, quitting iTunes and relaunching it while holding down the option key (to designate a different library), then quitting and relaunching it and re-pointing at my real library. I've also tried selecting a completely different screensaver then reselecting the iTunes Artwork screensaver. I've also repaired permissions. Nothing has fixed it.
    Any suggestions?

Hi - I have the same issue where a number of apps keep asking to accept incoming connections even though they are already listed in the access list of the Firewall. I have tried all suggestion I found in various discussion forums: verify disk, check permissions, clear access list in firewall, delete ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.NetworkUtility.plist, remove duplicates from keychain.
But nothing seems to cure the problem. I also found somewhere that the issue could be that the app bundle is changed because an app may write temp files or configs into its bundle.
There are 2 apps I use most and these keep asking over and over again, but today I noticed another level if bizarre behaviour.
I have SplashID iPhone Desktop which always asks to accept incoming connections whenever I launch it. I checked its bundle for any changes before, during, and after use but coulnd't see any files with changed modification dates/times. I even checked the bundle in a shell to look for any hidden files being created.
The other app is Safari and there I found a strange behaviour. It always asks me when I visit particular sites, e.g. www.thinkbroadband.com/speedtest.html. However, after removing Safari from the firewall access list I can visit the speedtest site without it asking. But when I quit Safari it appears in the access list with incoming connections allowed without me asking and when I start Safari again and go back to the speedtest site it now asks for permissions.
    Any more ideas?
    Cheers
    Michael

  • My mac is broken, can i transfer my purchases to a friend's pc so that i can restore my iphone?

my mac pro is broken and i had to force an update for Iphone because it was not working.  I ended up updating it on my friend's pc.  after the update, i tried opening the apps and nothing worked.  i don't want to lose everything i have purchased but i am not sure if i can transfer it to my friend's computer so that i can reset on my Iphone.  Help please!!!

Once you sync it with your girlfriends computer you will have to continue syncing it with that computer. You will get all her music, apps, etc but you can select what you sync. The computer will recognize the iPhone individually so it doesnt matter if you have more than 1 iPhone synced to the same computer.
Main downside is when you go to sync it with another computer you will have to do a complete restore.
    Hope this helped.

  • How i can install Mavericks on new HDD because my mac hdd broken

i have macbook pro A1286 hard disk damage . i buy new HDD and fix it on my mac , then how i can install Mavericks ?
i try many times but i cant finish this problem because i cant access to disk utilities or recovery mood because already the hdd is new&empty .
    Please Help

    Thanks

It's going to be impossible to install Mavericks unless you have a working Mavericks-USB-installer or an  "install OS X Mavericks.dmg" that YOU have downloaded from the App Store in the past.
You should use a Snow Leopard install DVD to install 10.6.8 Snow Leopard on your Mac. From there, you can use your  "install OS X Mavericks.dmg" to install Mavericks. If you don't have that, you can download and install Yosemite from the Mac App Store instead.
If you don't have either a Snow Leopard install DVD or a custom made Mavericks-installer-USB, you should call Apple and buy a Snow Leopard install DVD from them. They're still for sale.
The other option is to use another, still functioning, Mac and connect the two using a firewire cable. Then you can use Target Disk Mode to install Mavericks or Yosemite on your Mac http://support.apple.com/nl-nl/ht1661

  • Dual displays, mac screen broken?

I have a mac os x 5.8, and I bought it new about a month ago.
I have been using a dual monitor, and had no problems.
I Turned it off the other night, and in the morning when i tried turning it back on, the screen on the macbook is not visible. It will not light up at all, but if you look hard enough, you can see the faintness of the programs open. I was able to get the displays preference up on the dual monitor, and when hitting Mirror Displays, I am now able to use the mac on the dual monitor.
Does anyone know how to fix this problem?
I have turned off the mac, unplugged the dual monitor cable, and rebooted, and that did not fix it.
    Thanks-Dan

It might be that the actual backlight has gone out on your display. If you bought it new just a month ago, I would highly suggest taking it by an Apple Store to get it repaired for free. It should be covered under Applecare.
