Mac SE/30: handles 110V/230V automatically?

Hello,
my old Macintosh SE/30 works fine here in Europe, with the 230V voltage system. But I can't find any of the usual switches to change to 110V. As I move to Canada I wonder if the power supply is automatically dealing with it or if I better not connect the SE/30 over there?
(not that I do much with the old boy anymore but you won't kill an Icon, eh?)
Thanks & Regards,
Marc

According to this article, 48-62 Hz, and nominal 120-240 Volts presents no problem:

You are attempting to download the picture to your computer not uploading photo to the website if I am understanding you correctly.
To change the download direction, you must do so through your browser's Preferences.  If you are using Safari, hopefully, someone who uses Safari will help you and/or post over in their forums.  I do not use Safari.

  • Mac Mini wakes up from standby automatically

    Hi,
My Mac Mini wakes up from standby automatically. Waking up via network is disabled and I use an Airport Extreme, a USB mouse (not from Apple) and a wireless Apple keyboard. OS X version is 10.5.8.
I have the Mac Mini since about 10 months now. Almost 1 month after I bought it, I had the this problem but thought I am doing something wrong or my wife has forgotten to turn it off
After a while it was OK. About 3 months later it startet waking up by itself again. I called Apple Care (although the 3 months support was over). They tried to help, but there was no progress. It waked up again and again. After about 1 month it was OK again without me having done anything, no installations, no system updates.
One week ago, the Mac found some updates at Apple and installed them. Since then I have again the problem! I contacted again Apple Care and again they could not help. They just want me to pay for an extension of the Apple Care package, although they could not help me in this case!
Now I want to try it myself getting support by people in this forum. I hope there is someone with experience about this case.
I am not much experienced with OS X, but I will try to answer questions that could help me resolve this problem.
BTW, I searched for a similar topic and found one ("My MacMini always wakes up from standby") but in that case the wake up feature is activated by the user. In my case this feature is deactivated, as mentioned above.
    Thanks
    Cheers

    Hi,
sorry for the delay, but I was on a business trip.
@Bsteely: Sometimes it wakes up immediately because of loosing connection to the keaboard when I send it to sleep. I suppose at the beginning of the sleep mode it into sleep mode, the keaboard connection is closed, then the keyboard "thinks" there is a problem and sends a message to the mini and the mini just wakes up again showing that the connection to the keyboard was lost but established again! This even happened as I had unselected the checkbox "Allow Bluetooth devices to wake up this computer" in Preferences -> Bluetooth -> Advanced.
But there are also times when the mini does not wake up so quickly. It just wakes up after hours. I had a look at Console.app as you suggested. Very weird to me indeed Well there I found something like "Wake reason = OHC2" or "Wake reason = OHC1". Unfortunately I cannot find older logs there.
@Boece: Hi and thanks for helping!
Well, I will try the update as soon as I can. By now I have no external harddisk to first save my data before doing the big update. But I am going to buy one soon.
Well turning off the monitor is OK, but the harddisk can wake up anytime while the mini is turned on as the OS might need to do something from time to time. And I don't want my computer to consume electricity even if it is such a small one like the mini. I'm a kind of green dude (but not from Mars ). And the sleep mode is interesting for me as I have very often many different Internet sites and some applications running, so I don't need to close them before turning off and open all of them again when turning on the mini.
Regarding other IR devices: The only IR device now is the keyboard. I even took out the batteries and the mini still woke up over the night!
Thanks again for your support guys. Please let me know if you have any further information of ideas.
    Cheers

If you close all the windows and quit word, next time you restart, DO NOT check "Reopen windows on login".
Also, check your login items for your user account.

  • 2007 MacBook Pro w/ Mac OS X Lion Can't Automatically Connect to my Wi-Fi Network...

    Hello everyone,
I have a late 2007 15" MacBook Pro (not Unibody model) that has been recently upgraded to Mac OS X Lion (not Mountain Lion).
Ever since the upgrade, when I power it on, everything loads as it should but what I notice is that my MacBook doesn't automatically connect (or finds) my wireless router. I have to click on the wi-fi antenna icon on the top right hand corner, and manually select my Wi-Fi connection from the pull down list. What's even more bizaare is that my MacBook knows to automatically connect because it's in my preferred network list.
I also have a 27" iMac with Mac OS X Lion and I don't get this issue. It simply powers up and automatically connects to my wireless network. I tried to compare configuration settings on both my MacBook and iMac but everything appears to match.
All of my software updates are up to date.
I really hate powering on my MacBook and manually select it from the pull down list of available networks.
Any help? Suggestions? I'm really scratching my head on this one.
    Thanks!

Things to do on the affected MBP.
    Switch off WiFi
In System Preferences, Network, WiFi interface, Advanced - remove the problematic network.
Go to Keychain, (Applications, Utilities) and remove keys associated with that network.
Switch on WiFi and try to connect again.
    Please report back.

  • Can my Mac connect to the Time Capsule automatically?

    Hi
I would like to know if my Mac is able to connect to the Airport Time Capsule automatically when I do a back up or set a timed backup.
    Thanks

As long as the TC is correctly setup as part of the network the connection should not be required as a special event.. it should be connected all the time.

  • Looking for Mac that can handle CPU intensive apps (Music & Video)

Hi everyone, I am looking to get a new mac in the near future but wanted to know which Desktop mac is best for music and video? I was thinking of the new iMac but not sure if they are powerful enough? I need something that can handle CPU intensive stuff. I will be using it mainly for video editing and music producing

    In a nutshell,
Look at the new 27 inch screen iMac models.
    Get the fastest optional CPU,
Decide which optional GPU you'd be comfortable with.
Get the base 8 GBs of RAM and then purchase extra, cheaper RAM through third party Mac RAM sellers.
Then add as much RAM as you think you need. The 27 inch screen models can take up to 32 GBs of RAM.
    Decide on optional storage sizes.
If you need a CD / DVD optical drive, these are no longer built-in and you will need to budget for a good external optical drive.
Budget for 3-year extended AppleCare warranty service.
In case of reliability issues with the first 5 years of operational life, the iMac will be covered with free warranty service for the first three years.
    Good Luck!

  • IMovie project too detailed. Mac can't handle it.

I'm editing a VERY long and complicated iMovie project with a lot of transparent videos on top of another, texts, audio files, high quality video clips, transitions, etc. Basically what has happened is the project is so detailed and complicated that the Mac can't edit it or handle it anymore. I open it up and I try to click on a clip and I get the rainbow wheel, I can't even move my mouse over the project, I just get the rainbow wheel.
The Mac is 2.66 gHz, and intel core dual processor. I need to finish editing this project (which is currently 19 minutes and 46 seconds long), so I need to know if theres anyway to allow my Mac to do this.
My Idea was to link several other Mac's together and network them to make one supercomputer with crazy power. I think you do with it a firewire cable.
Does anyone know a lot about this supercomputer method, how to do it, if software is required etc.? Maybe someone has a different method to solve my problem?
    Much appreciated,
    Jared.

Are you possibly running low on free space on your start up drive?  For a complicated project you should have more than 25GB of free space on your boot drive.
If that's not the problem sometimes a simple restart will help.
Also, sometimes permissions and preferences can get corrupted. Whenever iMovie starts acting funny, a common maintenance procedure is to do the following: Delete preferences by closing iMovie and trashing the file com.apple.iMovie.plist found in User (the House icon)/Library/Preferences. Then do a permissions repair using the Utilities/Disk Utility App on your Mac. Open the DiskUtilities window and select the Mac hard drive icon at the top of the side pane at the left. Then click on the Repair Permissions button. When you have repaired permissions and deleted preferences, restart your computer and launch iMovie. iMovie will replace the .plist file that you deleted.  Then see if you still have the problem.
I don't know what version of iMovie you are using, but when I am working on long or complicated movies in iM6 I often divide the project into 2 or more iMovie projects for editing purposes, and then join them together at the end.
    Good luck with this.

  • Upgrading my power mac G4 to handle a little more gaming.

Hey, hope you are doing well. To be honest I am new to Mac's just got it from a friend basically. I am interested in seeing if there is any possibility of upgrading it to handle more video games, such as WOW and Fable 2 when it comes out for computers, and other such gaming. also since i am a college student i have a limited budget. I know an upgraded video card and RAM are gonna be two of the main things i am looking for. I have a friend who has worked on macs before and says he can install but doesn't really have the time to do a lot of research with me so i came here. I was wondering what my options are and was basically praying to God to get some help as i have been to multiple stores to no avail. please help with recommendations, and i hope they are affordable. sorry bout the long post and thank you sincerely.

    Hi-
Like the 733mhz processor, the 800mhz doesn't have the L3 cache, which really helps the processing of graphics and video data. A processor upgrade wouldn't hurt.
If you were to install a flashed 9800 Pro (about $90 on ebay) and max your RAM to 1.5GB (from OWC) you would see noticeable improvement over your current setup.
If you have an old (or original) hard drive, a new hard drive like This will also help performance.
If the above were to not satisfy your gaming needs, then a processor upgrade would be necessary.
An OEM 933mhz or dual 1.0ghz may be found, and would provide improvement over your current processor. Also, a third party 7455 processor of up to 1.4ghz, or a 7447 (good) or 7448 (best) processor upgrade of over 1.6ghz would provide performance well beyond the current machines abilities.

  • IChat & .Mac account - changing handle? & iTunes pausing....

    Hi all,
Two quick questions regarding iChat & 10.5...
Is there any way to change your handle/screen name when using a .Mac account in iChat? I can't find a menu option, so hoping for a hidden solution.
Similarly, whenever I start an A/V chat, iTunes pauses. Again, I can't find a preference for this - any plist I can edit to change this behaviour, or some other workaround?

Is there any way to change your handle/screen name when using a .Mac account in iChat? I can't find a menu option, so hoping for a hidden solution.
If it's change as in create a new one, you have to do this on the .Mac website or on the AOL website if you want an AOL screen name.
If it's change as in use a different account that you have already registered. You can go in the iChat Menu > Preferences > Accounts. Then by pressing on the "+" button at the bottom you can create a new account. If you want to just modify the one that is already created, make sure you are logged out, select it in the list and change the username and password fileds to the new account and log back in.

Yes this is a default behavior and it doesn't look like there is an easy way around this. iTunes is paused by default so you can hear your buddy better and more importantly so the music is not captured by the microphone if played through your computer's speakers.

  • Mail for MAC - Unable to handle 2 accounts pointing to the same server

    Hi,
I have two accounts on MAIL pointing to the same server.
I am unable to send/receive mails from one of them, since they both point to the same SMTP server.
Is this a restriction on MAIL for MAC?
How does one over come this.
I'd written to Apple support and even made an update suggestion.
But obviously they dont care. It''s been over 8 months since I wrote.
And I am seriously going MAD with this problem!
    I've even switched 3 ISP.
    Please help.
    Rayne Man

    Hi BobTheFisherman,
    Thanks for responding.
So while I understand how mails work on mail servers with UID's and PWD's ...Here's the deal.
When setting up an account, MAIL asks for the SMTP profile setting, (which includes the SMTP mail server). It then creates the SMTP profile.
So if I have two accounts, I set up account 1 with the mail.xxx.com as mail server.
While setting up the second account, I again use mail.xxx.com (as the SMTP server)
So when if I have set up account 1 as the first account with the SMTP server ... while sending mail from the second account, it takes the the settings of account 1, and then the mail reply comes to account 1 instead of account two.
    Does this explain my problem?
Do let me know, cause I reall need an solution.
    Thanks again.

  • Why is my Mac having problems handling ProTools?

Hello, I had a Mac-Mini built last year with their available I7 processor and I have installed 16gb of RAM and installed an Samsung Evo-Pro 840 SSD. The unit works very smoothly with noticeable differences with the upgrades.
This was built for audio production using ProTools 11, different plug-ins and virtual instruments using software to program or the use of a USB to MIDI keyboard.
Within the great big world of audio production I am not using, or so I think, a large amount programs running at the same time. By that I mean PT and 2 to 3 plugins and a virtual instrument. The interface is a Mackie 1640I for A to D conversion. I also use a Kemper Modeling amp where all of the programming and hardware are fully separated from my DAW.
The problem. It is very simple. This amount of demand seems to be too much for the hardware as I experience increased latency and very slow response at times from programs that work just fine until another plug-in is added.
I have gone into my start up program list to find it strangely very short, listing only a few very basic programs running in the background. There is NO way I could get into a full fledged Mac at $3000 for what I am doing and quite frankly I think that I am missing something very basic here or I just am not informed enough to make an intelligent assessment.
What about over clocking this machine? Is this possible and or desirable?
Thank you to anyone who might take time to add their comments, opinions and experience.

For one thing, you posted in the 10.4 forum.   Since that can't run on a Mac made last year, and your signature says 2013, I take it you are running a more modern version of Protools.   I suggest visiting this website to see what minimum hardware you can use depending on your version of Protools:

And then visit the Protools forum:

  • Is there a way to use Automator or Applescript to launch the Mac App Store and download updates automatically?

As the subject indicates, I'm wondering if anyone knows a way to use AppleScript or Automator to launch the Mac App Store and download any available updates on a set schedule.

I would advise against this. Updates sometimes reduce functionality or break programs.  I would never get an update with working software unless there is a specific problem you are trying to solve.
I have read many desperate posts from people trying to go back to earlier versions for various reasons. This is easy to do with disk-based software,  but with downloaded software, going backward can be more difficult.
