Mac SE or Mac or Mac Original

My 8 year old son is obsessed with all Apple products, history, Steve Jobs, etc.  I had an old Mac SE that I had promised him, but it got donated it at some point in the last 25 years...(unknown to me)....does anyone have one they are looking to get rid of?  Or any really old Mac Product he can play with?  You would make a little boy's dreams come true!!
Thanks so much, in advance!

Your best option for success is to peruse Craigslist.
Classic Macs are becoming collector's items. Working examples of the type can be prohibitively expensive. An original Macintosh is worth thousands.
Buy him the Isaacson biography. The writer's style is annoying but the biography is historically accurate and very detailed.
Better yet get him an iPad and the iBook version.

Call Apple and make a appointment.
You have 3 months of care and up to 3 years with paid AppleCare, let them handle it and bring everything in.

Hello. I hope someone can help. I have an iPod Touch 8G that I am trying to keep the music playlists from, adding them to what is on my Mac. I had work done on my Mac, and as a result, the original playlists in iTunes were deleted. I have recreated them using the Music Library, a long arduous process of thousands of songs! I would really like to have both, so I could manually combine playlists. How do I do this, not losing either set of playlists?
I enabled Home Sharing and iCloud.
    Many thanks!

Is this happing because the external is formatted to PC and not mac?
    Yes that is correct.
Will I need to get a mac external hard drive if I wish to continue to save my documents like this?
If you no longer use a PC you could format this drive for the Mac. However be aware that formatting a drive will erase all the data on it. So you would need someplace to copy the data off this drive to while you did the re-format and then you could copy the data back.
You could get another drive, format it for the Mac and copy the data to it. Then re-format the original drive and use it as a backup drive. Always good to have backups.
Post back with the drive type and size of the current drive, if you are doing backups now and how and if you still need to access this drive from a PC.

  • What about the Mac OS 9.2 from Mac OS X

Do you think I can install Mac OS 9.2 directly from the second Mac OSX CD on a PowerBook 3400c with 2gb HD and 80MB of RAM?
I'm asking because my friend got rid of his Mac and gave me his Mac OS X CD's and since, I know I can't install X on my machine, maybe the 9.2 would do...
Or would that require Mac OS 9 helper?

Hi, Prosis. I suspect the CDs given to you will be of no value at all with your PB 3400. No retail (universal) OS X installer disc set includes an installer for OS 9. The only Mac OS X installer CD sets that include installers for OS 9.x are model-specific installers, and none of them is specific to a PB 3400. I think it very unlikely that you will be able to start your computer up from any CD in such a set. Even if you're able to do so, I doubt very much that an OS 9 installer designed for some other Mac model will install a functional OS 9.0.x or 9.1 — let alone OS 9.2.2, which is unsupported on your computer.
OS 9 Helper is only useful for applying the OS 9.2.1 and 9.2.2 downloadable updaters to an already-installed OS 9.1. It does not make possible any other method of installing any version of OS 9 from any source disc.
There is no way to install a bootable OS 9.2.2 directly from any CD on any Mac, except from an installer CD that is specific to that Mac model and was originally shipped with it.

  • Using a Mac OS 9 application on Mac OS X

I just bought a media card reader to transfer my pictures from my camera, but it uses a Mac OS 9 application. I tried to use "Classic" on my computer, but the computer says that I don't have an OS 9 folder. Something online said that I might be able to use my OS X installation CD, but I am out of town for the summer, and my installation CDs are at home. Help!

If an icon shows up on your desktop for the Media Card reader, open it and look for the photos inside that icon.
If your computer's CPU speed is above 500MHz, there is no way to install Mac OS 9 on it without the computer's original disks. An older PowerBook G4 can install Mac OS 9 from a retail Mac OS 9.21 CD, which may be available for purchase at a local Mac store. A retail Mac OS X package does not include Mac OS 9, except for the 10.0 and 10.1 packages; the 10.1 package includes a Mac OS 9.21 CD.

  • Need Urgent help, I have made partition hard drive in my mac book and using OS mac

Need Urgent help, I have made partition hard drive in my mac book and using OS mac & Window8 seperately... for couple of days it works great for both window & OS mac But nowadays, my pc gets restart automatically while using window & even I cant access to my Mac OS...........  I got some error in window (error80070003) ...>>>>> Now how can I format whole drive & recover my Mac book OS.without boot disk.

I can't find that model. If you open System Profiler in the Utilities folder look for the Model Identifier over in the right hand display. What do you find for the model ID? If your computer supports Internet Recovery here's what to do:
Install Mavericks, Lion/Mountain Lion Using Internet Recovery
Be sure you backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive because the following procedure will remove everything from the hard drive.
Boot to the Internet Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND-OPTION- R keys until a globe appears on the screen. Wait patiently - 15-20 minutes - until the Recovery main menu appears.
Partition and Format the hard drive:
Select Disk Utility from the main menu and click on the Continue button.
After DU loads select your newly installed hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed. Quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion. Mavericks: Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion, Mavericks and click on the Install button. Be sure to select the correct drive to use if you have more than one.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.
This should restore the version of OS X originally pre-installed on the computer. If Mavericks is not installed, then you can reinstall it by re-downloading the Mavericks installer.
You will need to use Boot Camp Assistant in order to create a new Windows partition, then reinstall Windows.

I have transferres Adobe programs from my old Mac Book to my new Mac Book Pro, but I can´t open the programs!?

Adobe programs don't do well with migration. You should uninstall them, run the cleaner tool (CS Cleaner Tool for installation problems | CCM, CS6, CS5.5, CS5, CS4, CS3), and reinstall from the original installers, but you also need to be aware that many older programs are not supported on newer versions of OSX so this may not go smoothly.

  • How to format mac os, how to format mac os

how can i format ios x (10.9.2)..thank you

iOS refers to the operating system on iPads, iPhones, iPod Touch, and AppleTV.
Mac OS X refers to the included operating system on all Macs since 2001, though with Macs 2006 and newer installing Windows is possible as a boot operating system.
As for formatting your MacBook, if you mean erasing, pre-July 20, 2011 Macs come with a prebundled installer disk that includes a Disk Utility to format the machine:
    https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-3003
Call AppleCare if you are missing those original discs.
Those afterwards can boot off Disk Utility through the startup manager with the Option key boot and selecting the restore partition.
If you don't see the restore partition, also try command-R.
Note, erasing means exactly what it does, so make sure you have two off computer backups of all your essential data before proceeding.
If you can't access the data on your machine, see this recovery tip:

Can I use ARD to control my mac with Back to my Mac service?
The with Back to my Mac service on you see your mac in the Shared column, hit Share Screen & your good - on ARD I don't see my remote Mac listed anywhere in that program.
    Thanks

ARD, to the best of my knowledge, does not work via Back To My Mac. Certainly it's not an direct or obvious feature, though I can't say that there might not be a workaround I've not heard of.

  • How can I remove iCloud from my Mac Book and iPad and Mac Book Air and then just reload back on the MB Air and iPad only?

How can I remove iCloud from my Mac Book and iPad and Mac Book Air and then just reload back on the MB Air and iPad only, which have a different user with a separate Apple ID?

You have quite muddied up the waters, I'm afraid. Assuming you now have a single GUID partition formatted Mac OS Extended, Journaled, you should try reinstalling Lion:
Reinstalling Lion/Mountain Lion Without Erasing the Drive
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the main menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion: Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion and click on the Continue button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.
