Mac seems slow to load  web pages and email since mavericks upgrade

Since upgrade from Mountain Lion to Mavericks on my iMac, web pages seem a lot slower to load on screen. Also, when I open my mail inbox, the mail content (wording) takes a long time before appearing on the right hand side, then followed a little later with the display content. I have synchronised all my mail accounts and also emptied my cache in the safari browser, but this has not resolved the problem.

Go to Applications (you can do this by clicking on the desktop and hitting cmd-shift-A). Within the Utilities folder you should see a program called Terminal. Launch this program, which should just be a window that you can type into. Type the following (or just copy and paste into the window) and hit return:
     networksetup -setv6off Wi-fi
Then go back to Network Preferences and verify that IPv6 is set to off. If that doesn't help, enter these two commands in succession:
     cd /Library/Preferences/
     sudo mv com.apple.security-common.plist ~/Desktop/
Note that this moves a configuration file onto your desktop. If that doesn't fix things you may want to put it back:
     cd /Library/Preferences/
     sudo mv ~/Desktop/com.apple.security-common.plist .
Good luck!

  • Safari-slow in loading web pages and getting beach all effect quite often today, have checked Internet connection is ok

Hi, I am having problems with Safari loading web pages as I am getting beach ball effect quite often today.  I have checked that the Internet connection is good, I have also removed webpages in history.  Can anyone give me advice please as I am fairly new to iMacs and not young?

    1. Reset Safari.
Click Safari in the menu bar.
From the drop down select "Reset Safari".
Uncheck the box next to  " Remove saved names and passwords".
      Click  "Reset" button
    2. Empty Caches
        Safari > Preference > Advanced
Checkmark the box for "Show Develop menu in menu bar".
Develop menu will appear in the Safari menu bar.
Click Develop and select "Empty Caches" from the dropdown.
    3. Turn off Extensions, if any temperorily.
        Safari > Preferences > Extensions
        Try Safari again.

  • Mac running slow - Not loading web pages

Something is wrong with my Mac. Out of the blue, over the last few days, it is running extremely slow.  Web pages won't load or if they finally do it takes forever.  The little spin wheel just keeps going. Sometimes a page will load after a very long time but as I scroll down, only part of the page is there and the rest never loads.  I'm on a wireless connection.  My husbands PC and my iPad are working just fine so it's not the connection.  Any thoughts on what is wrong and how to fix it?  Have not made any changes to my computer.  No new software, updates, etc.

You are using Safari to surf the web?
If so, try emptying the cache more often ..
    Command + Option + E
Then quit and relaunch Safari to test.
If that doesn't help, try troubleshooting extensions and third party plug-ins.
From your Safari menu bar click Safari > Preferences then select the Extensions tab. Turn that off if there are any installed. Quit and relaunch Safari to test. If that helped, turn extensions back on then uninstall one a time to test.
If it's not an extensions issue, try troubleshooting third party plug-ins.
Back to Safari > Preferences. This time select the Security tab. Deselect:  Allow all other plug-ins. Quit and relaunch Safari to test.
If that made a difference, instructions for troubleshooting plugins here.

  • Why is my firefox slow to respond to every single mouse click and every typed word, slow to load web pages, and sometimes crashes?

When I click on things, it takes forever before firefox responds. When I'm typing emails or what not, I will type and the word will show up a few seconds later. Nothing is immediate anymore. Even when I try to use the scroll bar, it is slow to respond. Sometimes firefox clashes and it tells me that the plug-in container has stopped working.

I went to Settings > iCloud > Documents and Data, then turned off  documents and data, and now it is back to normal.  Apparently you cannot take advantage of both on the iphone 4 and 4s.

Recently downloaded Mac OS X Mavericks and Safari has become noticeably less responsive; slow to load web pages. Also, when Safari is open, the Finder randomly comes to the front. Any ideas?

In fact, I am runing some plug-ins:  ClickToPlugin (Flash blocker), Collusion and Disconnect.
There is quite a history of new versions of Safari breaking third-party plug-ins/extensions becasue the plug developer did not have an updated version available by the time the new Safari version dropped. What you report--worked fne before but won't now--is exactly what history says happens in such a case.
First, turn off all third-party stuff and see if Safari smooths out. Alternatively, create a new user account and, from there, test Safari in its native state with nothing added. That is a good diagnostic to see if the issue is a plug or extension.
If either of those helps, check for updates to the add-ons. If the developer is slow in reacting to the updated Safari version, (not unheard of), stop using that extension until an update is available.

  • My ipad air is slower loading web pages and opening apps than ipad 2

Bought new ipad air a month ago, it seems very slow compared to my ipad 2, when loading web pages and apps, is anyone else having these problems or have I got a faulty ipad?

    (A) Try reset iPad
Hold down the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears
Note: Data will not be affected.
    (B) Try reset all settings
    Settings>General>Reset>Reset All Settings
Note: Data will not be affected but settings for Wi-Fi, FaceTime, Message, Home Sharing will be reset

  • My macbook air is so slow at loading web pages

Why is my Macbook Air suddenly so slow at loading web pages?

Please answer as many of the following questions as you can. You may already have answered some of them. In that case, there's no need to repeat the answers.
Have you restarted your router and your broadband device (if they're separate) since you first noticed the problem? If not, do that now and see whether there's any change.
If your browser is Safari, then from the Safari menu bar, select
Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Privacy ▹ Remove All Website Data
    and confirm. Any change?
If you're running OS X 10.9 or later, select the Advanced tab in the Preferences window and uncheck the box marked
              Stop plug-ins to save power
    Any change?
Quit and relaunch the browser. Any change?
Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.”
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your documents or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this behavior; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
*Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac” is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
Enable Private Browsing in the Safari menu. Any change?
Are any other web browsers installed, and are they the same? What about other Internet applications, such as iTunes and the App Store?
If other browsers and Internet applications are also affected, follow these instructions and test. Any change?
If Parental Controls is active for any user, please turn it off and test. Any change?
If only Safari is affected, launch the Activity Monitor application and enter "web" (without the quotes) in the search box. If a process named "Safari Web Content" is shown in red or is using more than about 5% of a CPU, select it and force it to quit by clicking the X or Quit Process button in the toolbar of the window. There may be more than one such process. Any improvement?
Open the iCloud preference pane and uncheck the box marked Photo Stream, if it's checked. Any change?
Are there any other devices on the same network that can browse the Web, and are they affected?
If you can test Safari on another network, is it the same there?
If you connect to your router with Wi-Fi and you can also connect with Ethernet, do that and turn off Wi-Fi. Any difference?

  • Why is iPad so INCREDIBLY slow in loading web pages or e-mails? I have brand new iPad 2.

Just got a new iPad2 last week, installed OK, updated to iOS 5.0, able to access my home's wireless network. However, it is incredibly slow in loading web pages, so that most web sites time out before they will load, like http://finance/yahoo, which I have to use my desktop (Windows XP) or laptop (Windows 7) computers to access, since the iPad will time out almost every time before it can open the site. Same for most other sites, unless real simple like my own web site, which will open OK.
Apple tech support was no help at all. Any suggestions, other than buying a new router?

Have you tried (1) restarting your router, and (2) resetting the wifi on the iPad?  To do #2, go to Settings, General, Reset, Reset Network Settings.

  • Safari is slow 2 load web pages on my Macbook

Safari is slow 2 load web pages on my Macbook.

First I would do a speed test to make sure your Internet is working appropriately. If speed is slow you can restart your router/ modem.

  • Fireox became excruciatingly slow to load web pages immediately after following Stop Censorship link over Firefox logo on start page.

Immediately after I followed the Stop Censorship link on the Firefox opening page and e-mailed congressional representatives, Firefox has become extremely glitchy - web pages take forever to load. I had upgraded to Firefox 8 two days ago. Could this be a virus/worm set by pro-censorship or anti-open source agencies like ?Microsoft or is this a problem with the beta version of Firefox 8? I did not notice the extreme slowing of web page loading after upgrading to Firefox 8, but it happened directly after I followed and acted on the Stop Internet Censorship links. My Norton internet security scans shows "no threats detected". Also I am unable to submit this feedback to Firefox: When I click on the Submit Feedback button, nothing happens. What to do? Should I go back to 3.6 or what to do next? Any other Firefox community members have this problem?

    SOLVED
I cannot quite fathom why this solution works (since browsing seemed slower without Sophos installed) but with Sophos 9 installed and turning off the new functionality in Sophos 9: Web protection / Block malicious downloads... the browsing experience is again very fast with the exception of netspeed.test.

  • Severe slowness in loading web pages with Firefox 26

    Hi to all!
I installed the latest version of Firefox and my browsing started being very slow and a lot of error connections and loading troubles occured. I have already tried the "Restart with Add-ons Disabled" mode and also the "Troubleshooting information" resetting Firefox to its default setting. I had this issue when I updated FF to its latest version 26.0 . With the previous version I had no troubles, and I could solve the few ones I had. I unistalled it and tried to install a new fresh copy but it didn't help. I tried also the Firefox 27.0b2 version and I had the same problem.
When I sign-in my Gmail account, the page loads very slowly and the message "Some Gmail features have failed to load due to an internet connectivity problem" appears.
I can't surf the net on Google because the search takes a lot of time and for all the time the sign in the tab "Connecting..." still remains until the page doesn't load the search, I have to reload the current page to return to Google and try again.
YouTube is very slow and videos don't start at the play button.
I have this severe slowness only with Google, YouTube and also with the addons.mozilla.org site . All other sites load with no problems like webmail pages and others.
I have FF 26 installed on my laptop and using the same connection at my home, I have no problems. It only occurs on my desktop.
More details: I always use the private browsing mode and the only extensions I use are "Adblock Plus 2.4", "Adblock Plus Pop-up Addon", "Anti-Porn Pro" and "FireShot". I modified some about:config setting my I had never had any problems with all the previous versions.
I hope saying all about my problem and you could tell me how to solve it.
    EDIT:
More info about my FF setting and my system information of my desktop are in the "Question details" -> "More system details" where I posted the "Troubleshooting information" (It's in italian language, but it's very easy to understand).
I restored a system point before the installation of the latest version of FF coming back to the 25.0.1 previous version and like expected I have no troubles. But the problem still remain because I can't use this version for all the time, I'll have to update FF sooner or later.

Does this affect both regular HTTP and secure HTTPS sites equally, or do you notice it only on secure HTTPS sites?
    Any special connection setting?
orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Options > Advanced > Network mini-tab > "Settings" button
Try "No Proxy" (sorry, I don't know the correct translation)
As a diagnostic, could you switch the Flash Player plugin to "click-to-play"?
Open the Add-ons page using either:
    * Ctrl+Shift+a
    * orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons
In the left column, click Plugins. Then change the setting for Shockwave Flash from "Always Activate" to "Ask to Activate".
When sites want to use Flash, a notification icon will appear in the address bar, or in the player rectangle. After seeing whether load time is better, you can go ahead and approve Flash and see how that changes things.
Does Flash seem to be an issue?

  • DNS & Certain Slow to Load Web Pages

I've been living with this problem for a couple of years now, and it really isn't a high priority aside from the possibility that it could some day manifest itself in a more serious manner.
The problem is that macnn.com and macfixit.com are very very slow to load. Not a big deal which is why I was not motivated to spend any time fixing this!
In all the time I had this problem, those two slow to load sites in my own office has been the extent of the problem. When I take either my PowerBook or MacBook Pro off-site the problem goes away. When other laptops are brought into my office they have the problem, but not off-site.
    Background:
A few years ago I set up a Tiger server on a G4 tower and set up DNS, DHCP, Open Directory Master, AFP, Software Update, VPN and Portable Homes.
I have set up similar configurations at several client locations, but none of them have had this problem.
My ISP is qwest, as it is for many of my customers with Mac servers I admin. I always use qwests 205.171.3.65 and 205.171.2.65 DNS servers.
All along I figured something was FUBAR with my internal DNS, and figured the problem would go away with either a server rebuild or by getting a new server.
Now fast forward to more recent months:
I have moved to a new location across town, I have bought a Mac Pro tower & set up Leopard server on it (starting from scratch including a new and different .private DNS zone), and I upgraded my Qwest DSL from 1.5 meg to 12 meg fiber optic, getting a new modem in the process.
    And the problem remains!
I do have a static IP with qwest. This is the only thing I can think of that has remained constant.
I have searched and did discover that it is not an uncommon thing for people to experience slow load times for those two sites. But wow is it strange that it manifests itself in such a limited and stubborn way for me!
My concern is that this same problem could appear at one of my client locations, but with web sites that they need to use frequently.
    Any insights?

    Hi
If it's any consolation both sites mentioned have always been slow to load for me. Regardless of Service Bandwidth, external/internal DNS, Browser, Platform or Location.
Occasionally and for no apparent reason they do load as quickly as other sites. Only to return to their usual 'performance' after a short time. There are other sites that perform the same for me which I can't think of at the moment.

I have a Mac Air, and I opened a web page in Safari and it died before the page could load, then I got the spinning beach ball for about 40 minutes so I turned it off. Now When I turn it on I get the chime, a grey screen, then the apple, then the pin wheel  -its been going now for an hour.
    Any help greatly appreciated

There are several ways to back up a Mac that is unable to fully boot. You need an external hard drive to hold the backup data.
    1. Boot into Recovery (command-R at startup; 10.7 or later), from a local Time Machine backup volume (option key at startup; 10.7.2 or later), or from your installation disc (C key at startup; 10.6.8 or earlier.) Launch Disk Utility and follow the instructions in the support article linked below, under “Instructions for backing up to an external hard disk via Disk Utility.”
How to back up and restore your files
    2. If you have access to a working Mac, and both it and the non-working Mac have FireWire or Thunderbolt ports, boot the non-working Mac in target disk mode by holding down the key combination command-T at the startup chime. Connect the two Macs with a FireWire or Thunderbolt cable. The internal drive of the machine running in target mode will mount as an external drive on the other machine. Copy the data to another drive. This technique won't work with USB, Ethernet, Wi-Fi, or Bluetooth.
How to use and troubleshoot FireWire target disk mode
    3. If the internal drive of the non-working Mac is user-replaceable, remove it and mount it in an external enclosure or drive dock. Use another Mac to copy the data.

  • Safari is hanging. Too slow to load web pages!

I was wondering if someone can help?
    I have OS X 10.4.7 and when I enter a web address,
Safari starts loading for the first second than hangs.
Wont load. Its like its stuck. Then I stop the loading process then hit return , and it loads fully - no problem.
So I have to re-highlite the url address then hit return.
So Safari by itself is not loading the pages. It needs a little helping hand. Why is this? It used to before.
Maybe is it because I got D-link wireless router in the chain now?.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks / Alexis

    Hello Alexis:
There is a separate Safari forum:
    http://discussions.apple.com/category.jspa?categoryID=169
In that forum, there are a number of people who can, I think, help resolve your problem.
For openers, clear the Safari cache and trash the preference file (com.apple.safai.plist).
The wireless configuration could be an issue, but it is hard to tell at this point. You could eliminate tthe router temporarily to see if that is an issue.
