MAC sees my Lacie hdd as a setup program

I have a 1 TB Lacie HDD with 2 partitions: one of 32 Gb for the MAC (FAT32) and one with the rest for windows (NFT). I wrote data from my mac to the device, one year ago.
I can also acces the HDD (and the data) on my windows PC.
I connected it again now to my Mac (Intel based I-Mac) and it pops up as a program: LaCie Setup Assistant. Wit this program you can format the whole disk but I do not want this because I already have some 800GB data on it.
I have several window PC's with different windows versions. They all can access the HDD. But not the MAC! Why is that?
kind regards,
Lucas

That is a very annoying addition to recent LaCie drives. It's totally unnecessary, but the only way to get rid of it is to re-partition and format the drive from DU.
Which you'd obviously prefer not to do as you have data on there.
If you need to preserve a FAT32 partition, but use the rest for NTFS, I would suggest transferring the data from the FAT32 partition to a 32GB thumb drive and use the LaCie purely with your PCs. (at least until you can free all of it for a reformat).
And send a complaint to LaCie.
They think they're being helpful, but they aren't.

  • My airport extreme crashes thanks to Lacie HDD

    Hi all,
I have a airport extreme (5g) with a Lacie HDD (2 years old) connected to it in my living room.
Now when i'm busy on my HDD, copying stuff or watching movies, my macbook tells me that teh connection with the HDD is interrupted.
When I got that messege, my WIFI fails to. When I have removed the powercable and put it back, it takes the airport extreme a few seconds to restart.
So what can I do, so the airport extreme wont crash?!?
    greetz

The drive is formatted as Mac OS Extended (Journaled), correct?
Are you using a Mac computer?
The drive will not appear automatically on your desktop when you connect it to the AirPort Extreme.
How are you trying to mount the drive on your desktop when the drive is connected to the AirPort Extreme?
The USB port on the AirPort Extreme is under powered, so it is often necessary to use a powered USB hub when you attach a drive to this port....even if the drive has its own power supply.

    hi,
somewhere on the windows machineshould be something like "network setup wizard". exactly where it is and what it is called i cannot remember off the top of my head, windows help is actually slightly useful here, it should have a link to it.
all the options checked on the mac are only what services the mac is offering to other machines, they have nothing to do with the services it can access (mostly...).
oh yeah, to actually connect to the pc after you have turned its sharing on, use the finder, or, when it does not show the pc (this happens on and off, possibly a refresh problem apple...) choose go --> connect to server and enter smb://<pc's name or ip>
to find the ip, the easiest way i think is
    start --> run --> cmd ->> ipconfig

Not necessarily. I'd suggest downloading and installing the "combo" update. That's a combination (thus the clever name) of all the updates to Leopard since it was first released, so installing it should fix anything that's gone wrong since then, such as with one of the normal "point" updates. Info and download available at: http://support.apple.com/downloads/MacOS_X_10_5_8_ComboUpdate Be sure to do a +Repair Permissions+ via Disk Utility (in your Applications/Utilities folder) afterwards.

I was finally able to resolve this issue. I went to LaCie's site and went to the support area to find troubleshooting steps for my particular drive. It turns out that the problem was corrected when I swapped the power supply cord of the "troubled" drive with another LaCie drive that I have and that seemed to resolve the problem. Thank you Tony for your help. I appreciate you guys!

  • How to migrate windows outlook, docs etc to mac on the same HDD

I use a Mac book pro. the HDD is partitioned on which on one part i run mac osx Lion and on the other Windows 7. Presently i do my work in windows 99 percent of time. I want to switch entirely to mac. on windows i use MS Office with outook 2010. i want to switch entirely to Mac and thn remove windows from my computer.
the question is how do i move the outlook data (mails(since 20030 contacts(over 4000), calander, notes et all) and all documents, music, videos bookmarks etc to Mac OSX on the partitioned portion of the SAME HDD? i have read many posts that advise how to do it from a PC to Mac but none that help when all the data is on the same HDD.
after migration, i want to delete the partition.
grateful for your help. i am not sure if i am in the right forum but in case i am not, could anyone guide me where to post this topic.
    thanks in advance

You can only use Windows Migration Assistant from a running Windows installation to a running OSX volume, so you won't be able to do that.
I don't do Windoze, but you should be able to do it manually.  See the Manually Migrating section of Switch 101: Migrate your Windows files or system to your Mac.  For your purpose, the Windows partition is the equivalent of an external HD containing the files you want to copy.

Have you tried any of these soundcards designed for 2.0?
The 3.0 port is categorically designed to be comoatible with all 2.0 devices. The port itself will adapt to the usage parameters of the device.
But if you really want to downgrade, then simply plug any 2.0 hub into a MBA 3.0 port. The ports on the hub will be 2.0.

An .exe file means you have the windows version. Go get the mac version:
    Download Photoshop Elements products | 12, 11, 10
but I hope you have a mac serial number.

I am unable to copy a folder on mac to an external hdd or even to a usb

If the external drives are formatted for Windows (NTFS), you can't write to them natively on a Mac. Your options are (1) to back up and reformat the devices as FAT32 or ExFAT, or (2) to install third-party software that enables writing to an NTFS volume (not recommended.)

  • Adding ssd to mac pro with raid hdd

    Hi,
In upgrading my 2008 mac pro (currently with hdds in raid) i'd like to add in an SSD with a clean install of yosemite and reformat the raid hdds for storage. What's the best method to accomplish this? I'll have to start over with the raid configuration i'm assuming because I need to give up a place for the SSD.
    Thanks,
    micaborn

Mac Pro 2006, 2007 and 2008 models have two SATA data connectors on the motherboard, hidden in plain sight. They can be accessed by using a cable kit such as this one:
    http://eshop.macsales.com/item/NewerTech/MPQXES2/
You can install the SSD in the second Optical bay. It has no moving parts, and does not run especially hot.
There are MUCH faster ways to run a High-end SSD, by installing it on a PCI slot adapter card, but you should try installing a 2.5" SSD drive as a first step. You may need to re-organize where you store things, like in this article:

The first important thing to consider here is that Apple does not support Time Machine backups to a drive at the USB port on the AirPort Extreme, so that may likely have something to do with your difficulties.
If you want to continue to try this, the drive must be formatted in Mac OS Extended (Journaled) and you almost always have to use a powered USB hub with a drive at the port of the Extreme...even if the hard drive has its own power supply....because the port on the Extreme is under powered.
Most users who try this unsupported method have corruption difficulties sooner or later, but we do hear from some users who seem to be able to make it work.
The bottom line is that there is no support from Apple on this if you have difficulties, so you may want to consider a secondary backup plan for your important data.

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
The hard drive is not formatted, and it must be formatted in "Mac OS Extended (Journaled)" in order to install OS X.
Close the OS X installer, and go to Utilities menu (on the menu bar) > Disk Utility. Then, format your hard drive in "Mac OS Extended (Journaled)" as Format > http://pondini.org/OSX/DU1.html Finally, close Disk Utility and install OS X

Yes, I've that and it didn't work. Today, I reinstalled printer software on one printer and the "paused" message changed to "offline". It's a three-in-one printer. I turned off and on again and it still says "offline"
