.Mac server speed vs. other web hosting services

Does anyone have any direct experience comparing the speed with which iWeb pages load on other web hosting services in comparison with .Mac?
I find that when I access my site using IE on a Windows platform, the load times can be pretty slow. Do other web hosting services load iWeb pages quicker?
Is the problem iWeb, the .Mac server or both?
I am going to need to use iWeb, does it make any sense to switch to another web hosting service (e.g., blue host) to post my site developed in iWeb or will it make no difference?
Many thanks for your comments.

iWeb offers try WYSIWYG page, which is cool, but if you get away from the standard websafe fonts, your site will be a bunch of fat PNGs and not HTML text, since the text fields will all turn into images. I went to a iWeb-created site recently that had two screens worth of text that iWeb had converted to a PNG. The text on the page took forever to download since it was a 650K image.
As previously mentioned IE (Mac or PC) has never rendered PNGs well. It's hard to imagine it doesn't support a Web-standard image format that's been around as long as the Web has. No wonder FireFox use is growing so fast.
There are other things that can be done to shrink site size and speed up loading. Basics, like limiting most pages to one screen, using a basic font like Verdana, and keeping images to small screen sizes. Also importing photo albums and images for blogs through iPhoto's button keeps them all as JPEGS. Movies and music are a really killer too, since iWeb loads those cool QT frames. When you have more than one per page, loading time can take forever.

Any suggestions for good free web hosting service for my IWeb page, other than MobileMe?

    MobileMe is not free.
    Search : free webhosting
You can narrow the results by being more specific by adding town, province or country.
You can also start by checking out your own ISP.
Or be free as in here : www.000webhost.com

  • My web hosting service doesn't support XML

My web hosting service does not support XML and directs users to only use HTML.  I've published to a folder and it's in XML.  How can I publish to HTML?

Then either contact or change your web hosting company - this is an iWeb forum and not many people here know about coding, so you won't get any help.
Also Word 2000 - what does this have to do with iWeb again?  Word 2000 is a PC programme anyway and has nothing to do with Macs - so again, wrong forum and you won't get any help with a PC in a Mac forum.

  • Which is the Affordable Java Web Hosting Services?

    Hi,
I am Indie Game Developer and have just developed my first game. It is in Java and is a client - server based game.
I need to buy a good but affordable Java Web Hosting Plan but I could not find much to my liking. I don't need too much space (like 5GB), a couple of hundred MB's would be fine.
Does anybody know about an affordable, good Java Web Hosting service? Please let me know if you know.
    Thanks.
    Niteen Hatle

    SoulTech,
Thank, for replying. I think the couple of hundred MB's I've mentioned is too much. I have searched the internet for more Java web hosting services.
It seems Java web hosting is costlier than the normal web hosting services. So I have to separate the company website from the game server site.
Let's see what comes up in my search. If someone has any suggestion about a web hosting service with java support, if they have used it, then please let me know.
    Thanks.

  • Web Hosting Service - Unix vs Windows?

I use iWeb '08 to design and maintain two different sites using different web hosting services. One is a Windows hosting plan through DiscountASP. With the Windows service, I have found that my iWeb files work without modification and the pages load pretty fast. The other is a Unix hosting plan through Aplus.net. For the Unix service, I have to modify each file -using a separate html editor- if it contains an external reference (HTML snippet). The general page loading speed is not good - very slow (comparable graphics between the two sites). Is Windows hosting friendlier to the iWeb setup or do I just need to shop for a better Unix hosting plan? Thanks.

Seems odd. I use iWeb08 and Host Gator unix hosting. So far it has been totally transparent to me and I've had to do no editing of the html source. And I do use html snippets, though perhaps not in the way you do.

  • Can you help me choose a Web hosting service

Just call me a procrastinator but I know I have to find a web hosting service for my iweb created websites soon.    Despite browsing all afternon I can't find any definitive recommendations. (perhaps it's not allowed in discussions but I really need specifics) I want it to be as easy (a la MM) as possible and do want to continue a blog (preferably with ability to RSS/comments).  I also want unlimited space, bandwith, etc and of course am willing to pay but want to do the right thing as reasonably as possible - please can someone help me...soon

I personally use IX Webhosting for a couple of reasons:
Fast reliable personal tech support by phone, instant chat, & email
They allow unlimited domains "www.yoursite.com", unlimited email accounts, unlimited bandwidth
And, price they are very reasonable plans start @ $3.95 USD a month

  • Automatically Logging out of my web hosting service

I am using my web hosting service with Firefox 3.6.13 and I keep getting automatically logged out of the web hosting service. I contacted tech support for the web hosting service and they said it was a problem with the browser - cookies/settings/etc - I couldn't find any solution. I need to be able to set Firefox so I can stay logged into my web hosting indefinitely. Thank You.

  • Will iweb continue to work with other web host after june 2012

will iweb continue to work with other web host after june 2012

as long as osx supports it, iweb should work beyond june 2012 as an app by itself.
however, the some of the currently published code will break when mme servers are to shut down; unless apple comes up with a patches by then.
most of mme features can be replaced and fully implemented on other host servers.
    Password protection
can be implemented with apache server.
    Blog and photo comments
with Intense Debate commenting system, ex:
    http://home.cyclosaurus.com/CyclosaurusBlog/Entries/2011/2/12_Dynamically_Resize _iFrame.html
no need for manually resizing iframe.
if you have comments on mme servers and value them then you should find ways to archive them, because they'll be gone:
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/15528258#15528258
    Blog search
with google search, as long as your site is indexed with google search engines.
    Hit counter
with statcounter and can have the same look as mme hit counter:
    http://home.cyclosaurus.com/Cyclosaurus.html
as for photos page's popup slideshows, everything can be packaged in an installer so there is no need for editing, find+replace of anything.
if i feel good i just may release my installer for iweb slideshow patch.

  • While switching web hosting services my podcast quit updating on iTunes. What do I do?

While switching web hosting services my podcast quit updating on iTunes. What do I do? My RSS URL is http://www.soapboxheroescc.com/podcast/feed.
Any help would be greatly appreciated

There is no file at that URL, only an error message.
    Is this your podcast -
    https://itunes.apple.com/podcast/soap-box-heroessoap-box-heroes/id682605938
This is using the feed at
    http://feeds.feedburner.com/SoapBoxHeroessoapBoxHeroesPodcast
which has four episodes; however there are no 'enclosure' tags containing the URLs of playable media, so as iTunes does not show episodes with no playable media the podcast shows as empty.
I could only guess that that is your podcast from the title given in the error message for the URL you quote as you haven't given any further information.
If it is, then the Feedburner feed must be working from a feed you've created, though there's no way of knowing its URL. You can move Feedburner to using a different feed easily enough, or get the feed it's using working properly, and then the podcast will be subscribable again and the Store will catch up after a few days.

  • Web hosting service

Could anybody recommend me a web hosting service, if possible cheap, that works easily together with iWeb?

The first two services on this page have excellent tech support who will help you transfer your files from MobileMe if needed...

The last one is free if you don't need a personal domain name.

  • Aperture with .mac vs other web hosting sites

A new guy here with a couple of questions concerning using Aperture to post webpages, etc. I'd really appreciate some advice from you photogs already in the business.
Disclaimer: Forgive my ignorance, but years of using a PC have turned my brain into mush. Therefore, some of these questions might be quite laughable.
I'm wanting to set up a website for a photography business. I already have a domain name but am still setting up a website. I use Aperture for most of my work and would like to continue the Apple flow into .mac. However, I am torn over whether I should set up a website for my clients to visit using a .mac account or some other website such as SmugMug
    1. How well does Aperture work with .mac? Do you find it easier to do everything in Aperture and send it out to other websites other than .mac?
    2. How user friendly is .mac for you and your customers?
    3. What advice can you give me in setting up an easy and user-friendly site that gives customers easy access to a professional looking site and still maintain easy business transactions?
    I appreciate your answers.
    Thanks
    Marc S.
    iMac   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

I am a photographer - I have used Macs for over
    twenty years
I bought Aperture at the same time as a new Mac Book
Pro - mainly because it is Apple
Why can I not organise (or even know) where my Photo
galleries are published! although I have a .mac
    account
OR have I missed something! John T
Well, .Mac makes things simpler but also sometimes a bit harder in that it helpfully places things for you...
You can however change things around after publishing, the thing to do is go to that "iDisk" icon in the finder. There look in the "Sites" folder, and you will find all of the web galleries Aperture (or iWeb) has generated. You can move them from there and the url for anything in that Sites directory will always be "http://homepage.mac.com/<.Mac username/<foldername>" where foldername is the name of a folder in Sites.
You can use the names there to get an idea of what you have published and also clean things up.

  • Best web hosting services compatible with iWeb

Hi all! I just started using iWeb a month ago after Apple's keynote, and renewed my .Mac account. However, I am very dissapointed that Apple only provides 1GB of storage and 10GB of bandwidth versus the 5GB+ & 200GB+ yahoo and other hosting services provide.
If Apple does not provide larger bandwidth and storage for their users, I am thinking about changing next year with a different company. The only downside is having to start all over again with other publishing software like Macromedia Dreamweaver etc.
I want to know if there is anyone out there with success publishing their sites with iWeb on to different hosting companies other than .Mac. I am talking seamless uploads with the click of a button from iWeb (like the current .Mac service). Has anyone had great experiences? Please post your thoughts. Thanks!

If Apple does not provide larger bandwidth and
    storage for their users,
You can buy more you know.

Only .Mac can be done with the click of an iWeb button. Any other normal server requires a separate ftp program (.Mac does not use ftp but a different protocol called webdav).
Publishing via ftp is not a problem. Some tips for using other servers can be found here:

  • How do I link my Creative Cloud account with Business Catalyst Web Hosting service?

    Hello,
I'm having difficulty understanding how to access the Business Catalyst service. I have attempted to log in directly to businesscatalyst.com/admin but continue to receive an error login message stating that my username and password are not recognized. I was not able to create a new business catalyst website via Dreamweaver either, despite having successfully logged into my Adobe Cloud account.
The only way I was able to set-up a website for use with Business Catalyst was by logging in via http://www.adobe.com/products/business-catalyst.html, and pressing the "try now" button, which allowed me to create a demo site. This also allowed me to log into BC, but when I attempted to upgrade the site from a trial to the webbasic service, I am asked for a payment method.
I understand that the creative cloud service includes basic web hosting for up to 5 sites and should work seamlessly with DW or Muse, or using the InContext editing options provided via browser, but I am unable to truly access any of this content. Am I doing something wrong here?
    Thank you

Please approach our support and supply them with your Adobe ID and the site URL you want to take live and they will do this for you in couple of minutes.
    Cheers,
