Mac shuts down if I do not keep either the Fn, Command or control button held down ?
Hi. I have a mac book pro late 2011 model. I am running Mavericks but but I have a problem where my mac shuts down if I do not keep either the Fn, Command or control button held down. Also if/when this shut down happens I need to hold the shift-control-option keys to restart the mac.
Anybody got any advice for me ?

Recovery mode is Command & R keys after depressing and releasing the Power button for a normal startup.

What exactly happens when your try to boot to Recovery?
Try starting in Safe Mode resetting the SMC and NVRAM/PRAM

are the apple activation servers down currently because i just resotred my 4s and it keeps saying the apple activation servers might be temporarily down and i tried to connect it to itunes for activation and that didnt work

You tapped in the middle of the screen and it did not bring up the scrubber and controls at the top of the screen?
Try a Reset: hold down the sleep and home buttons, ignore the red OFF slider, wait for the Apple logo, let go of the buttons. -
My macbook pro 4,1 runs os x 10.6 but won't run my apple usb superdrive. One forum said that this is due to os x, not hardware. The terminal commands given were for Lion, but don't work in snow leopard. Help!

My mouse is frozen and will not click on the Cancel or Force Quit buttons. There is a box saying "Do you want to force Mail to quit? Can't move mouse ... it is frozen. Help???

Problem description:
Mid-2013 Macbook Air 13 inch. Shuts down when unplugged from power adapter. It 1st started just shutting down intermittently on battery power. Sometimes when it powers back-up on the battery power only the fan would be blowing hard. But it is now at the point that if it is not connected to the power adapter it will not come on. I have tried resetting SMC and PRAM but to no avail. The battery is showing 100% charge with only 137 battery cycle count.

0 B Page-outsTried to reset SMC many times but it didn't change anything. The battery however is no longer being charged by the adapter even the computer is plugged in. The light remains orange. I restored to one of my earlier back-ups on time machine with Mavericks and the iWorm and malware returned. So, I decided to erase the hard drive and restore to original OS. I was able to restore to Yosemite. Here is the result of the latest estrecheck and battery info:

At this point, the computer works fine with the adapter plugged in, light remains orange, the battery is not being charged. I believe the computer will still turn off once I unplugged the adapter from the computer although the battery is supposedly 88% charged.
If this is a hardware problem I hope it's just the battery. I believe that's the next step I have to take. Unless anyone has any other ideas. -
I keep getting the following message "some items (meaning all of them) were not transferred because iTunes match is enabled." when I try to drag and drop a playlist, song, or album to my iPhone. This was NEVER a problem before iTunes match or the last iOS update. So what is the deal? Why can't i just add music to my phone from the mac? There is space on the phone. The only way I have found to get the music i want to the phone is to have it download from the phone. This is not something i want to have to do: go through and manually add every album and recreate a playlist on the phone when its there on the mac. And, even more irritating, since the new update, when the phone is plugged into the mac i can't actually view from the mac what music is on the phone. This is incredibly frustrating and any help would be much appreciated in managing my music libraries for each device.

You cannot manually manage music with match turned on on your iOS device. If you want to manage music manually, you will need to turn off match on your iPhone.

I found this article while researching iTunes quitting unexpectedly on Windows 7 and feel it will help to resolve the issue here.

It starts with troubleshooting 3rd party plug ins, then moves on to account troubleshooting if needed.
Open iTunes in Safe Mode to isolate any inference with plug-ins or scripts not manufactured by Apple.
Hold down the Shift and Control keys while opening iTunes. If performed correctly, you should see a dialog that says "iTunes is running in safe mode" before iTunes finishes starting up.
After clicking Continue, determine whether the issue you were experiencing persists in Safe Mode.
If you see the same issue while iTunes is in Safe Mode, proceed to the Create a New User Account section below. If you do not experience the same issue, consult iTunes: Troubleshooting issues with third-party iTunes plug-insfor steps on how to remove third-party plug-ins.

I could not start up my MacBook Air tonight, even after making sure the battery was fully charged. I have had it for 2 1/2 weeks and downloaded Mountain Lion 2 days ago. This has never happened before. It started when I held down the power button and accidentally hit the F12 Key. Is this a problem and what should I do about it?

Iphoto will not print and the print command freezes my computer. Help!
I cannot print from iPhoto. When I give the print command my cursor turns into a pinwheel and freezes my computer.
Apparently there's some preference files other than iPhoto's that may be causing the problem. Here's how to determine if that's the case:
Trouble Shooting Preferences
NOTE: In Lion and Mountain Lion the Home/Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and press the Return key - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder.
If you're running Mavericks or Yosemite go to your Home folder and use the View ➙ Show View Options menu to bring the this window:
1 - close all applications.
2 - open your Home/Library folder and Option-drag (copy) the Preferences folder to the Desktop.
3 - select the contents of your Home/Library/Preferences folder and drag them into the Trash bin in the Dock. You will be asked to provide your Admin password.
4 - reboot. Be sure to know your account's username and password as you will be asked to log in with it.
5 - run the application again and determine if the problem(s) is fixed.
6 - If the problem is fixed:
A - open the working Home/Library/Preferences folder.
B - Open the Preferences folder on the Desktop, select all of the contents and drag them into the working Home/Library/Preferences folder.
C - When the Copy window pops up check the "Apply to All" check box and then click on the Don't Replace or Skip button.
D - reboot.
7 - If the problem is NOT fixed, drag the contents of the Preference folder on the Desktop into the Home/Library/Preference folder and replace the entire contents that were created by clicking on Replace.
8 - reboot and you're back as square one.
Note: keep the Preference folder on the desktop until you're sure all registration info for your apps are working. If not you can copy the required files from the desktop pref folder to the working one. -
Query for all computers that do NOT have either the 32-bit or 64-bit version of a product
I've found plenty of people asking how they can create a query that will list all of the computers that have either the 32-bit or 64-bit version of an application. I want to do the opposite. I want a collection where all of the members do NOT have
the latest versions of an application that comes in both 32-bit and 64-bit.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but wouldn't a NOT IN sub-select query be the only way to get a list of computers that do NOT have an application installed? I can create a NOT IN that works with either 32-bit or 64-bit ADD_REMOVE_PROGRAMS, but never both.Yes, for CM07 you will need to use sub-select. (CM12 you can use "exclude collections").
I think you need to use an OR, between your two sub-select statements, for your requirement.
edit: actually, maybe that should be an AND that you need. How about you try each, and let us know?

The pipe "|" does not work in the Windows command console.
This is a very weird problem. I am using 64-bit Windows VISTA command window for very long time and it just suddenly do not work with the pipe character anymore. I have checked the PATH and PATHEXT in Administrator mode and they look OK.
Detail below:
For example, the "dir" work as expected.

Jbutton: Button held down or clicked
Hello. I am implementing an mp3 player in Java. I want to implement a button that behaves differently when it is held down and when it is just clicked. For example, when the button is held down,fast forward is called. When the button is just clicked, it goes to the next song in the playlist.
I have tried to implement this with the mouse listeners mouseclicked, pressed and released but it is hard to get only one action happening at a time. My main question is how do you differentiate betwen a button being held down and a button just being clicked?

Any code sample similar to the above would be very helpfull. Maybe I can implement this with some kind of timer delay? It could trigger after the button is held down for half a second.
Thank you very much for your help.The thought that first occurs to me is to use a thread. Start the thread in mousePressed and kill it in mouseReleased. The thread will wait 1 sec, then 'turn on' FF (unless it gets killed first). Also stop FF in mouseReleased.
