Mac spontaneously wakes up and goes nuts...
Is my beloved G5 about to blow up? It runs OK, but if put to sleep it will wake up spontaneously, formerly rarely, like in the middle of the night after being asleep for hours, now sooner, and when it wakes up, look out: I'll hear it from downstairs, come running up to find a major crash with my monitors dark and all fans and drives screaming wide open. After powering down and restarting it may reboot OK, or it might come back with a screen full of error messages, but in those cases I have still been able to reboot it on the next try.
I dare not put it to sleep any longer -- if I have to go out for more than five minutes I have to shut it down. Any ideas?
Try a SMC reset.

My screen on my mac has become loose and goes all glitchy with vertical lines
My screen on my mac has become loose and goes all glitchy with the whole screen covered in vertical lines, it also has a lump at the base of the screen when it closes but that can be pushed down, All can be fixed by placing the screen carefully but it is increasingly difficult - HELP
Bring it into an Apple store genius bar for a free evaluation. If your MBP is not under warranty, you will br told what the costs are which you can accept or decline. Look at iFixit.com or Powerbookmedic.com for do it yourself options.

MacBook Pro wakes up and goes straight back to sleep
Sometimes when my MacBook Pro is asleep and I open the lid for it to wake up, it does wake up for a few seconds, but goes straight back to sleep. Does anybody know this issue or a - even better - a remedy.
Try a SMC reset.

Mac Pro turns on and goes to desktop but won't do anything from there
Hey guys,
I've had my Mac Pro for about 3 years now (fully updated) and have owned macs for about 20 years now and have never run into this issue. Hopefully you can help. I can turn my mac on and reach the login screen. I login and reach the desktop. From there weird things start happening.
1. Safari won't load. My dock where the Safari button is goes into hiding the second I click on Safari. Nothing loads.
2. If I go to my main drive and click on the Applications folder, the window disappears and I'm back looking at my desktop.
3. If I try to open System Preferences it may come up and it may not. Depends on the time.
4. iTunes will still open and work (although all my iTunes files are on a separate harddrive).
5. If I try to Restart or Shutdown the computer won't. I have to manually shut it down by holding the power button.
6. If I mess around with trying to open things long enough (Safari, Applications Folder, etc) the entire computer will lock up. I can still move the mouse around but it won't do anything.
I have booted the computer from the Install Disc and have run Disk Repair and have even repaired permissions and still nothing fixes this issue. Does anyone have any idea on what to do?Buy Disk Warrior.
Clone your system with SuperDuper.
Install a clean set of the system (erase and install) and full updates.
Gradaully test it out.
I would not use it as is.
Normally I would say, try a new "test" user account and see if the problem goes away (after you have a backup).
Your DVD is not 10.6.6, and Apple First Aid is not as thorough as say Disk Warrior, good start but not to do full reliable repairs.
Every hard shutdown etc just adds and corrupts the directory and file system.
You do have corrupt files, prefs and more.
I'm sure there is or ought to be some nice FAQs on system maintenance and repair for Macs.

MBP 2011 wakes up and goes to standby again
If i open my macbook pro 2011, it gets bright and everything seems to be fine but then it goes to standby again. If i shut and open it again, its possible that it works but the chance is less than 50% i think. So how do i open it and tell it that it has to start working???
If there is no 10.5.3 problem with most MacBook Pro owners, then there is obviously something different about your hardware. It may be a particular combination of components, or it could be a component that is +just slightly+ off specs. It is possible that Apple may be able to fix your problem with software or firmware, but there IS something different with your hardware compared to most MacBook Pro's out there (based on what you have already done to trouble-shoot).
But it doesn't really matter. IF your MacBook is still under warranty or under AppleCare, Apple is obligated to make it work properly. Not sleeping is a significant deficiency, and it is a readily reproducible problem. Apple can (1) figure out and fix the issue through software, (2) find the hardware issue that is causing the problem and fix it, or (3) replace your MacBook Pro with one that does not have this problem.
So if you still have time on your warranty, I would be proactive and insist that Apple fix the problem. The reason for the issue is not important. Waiting for an OS fix is not the best course of action, in my opinion. It may not even be a software problem... -
When I move my mac the screen flicker and must be rebooted
when I move my mac the screen flickers and goes blank then must be rebooted. Crap
Hi , and a warm welcome to the forums!
Could be many things, we should start with this...
"Try Disk Utility
1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu at top of the screen. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
*Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.*
3. Click the First Aid tab.
4. Select your Mac OS X volume.
5. Click Repair Disk, (not Repair Permissions). Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106214
Then try a Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes.
(Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.)
If perchance you can't find your install Disc, at least try it from the Safe Boot part onward.
If 10.7.0 or later...
Bootup holding CMD+r, or the Option/alt key to boot from the Restore partition & use Disk Utility from there to Repair the Disk, then Repair Permissions.
And sorry to report that OSX is more Widows like than ever, but….
If that doesn't help Reinstall the OS. -

Somebody help me My Mac is lagging big and whenever I click on something it just goes to the spinning wheel of death I can't do anything I need help
What model year Mac and what version of OS X are you running.
If this is on an older Mac with standard Rotating HDD it could be a sign the HDD is either to full of data or it is starting to fail. It could also be caused by 3rd party software you've installed. -
Mac book pro,
Turns off and goes under protection, sometimes without any specific motivation, but most of the time when an External monitor is pluged-in.
I use it when I work with final cut pro, and this problem it's becoming huge and changing my workplans....
It can turns off also 10 times in two hours.
In many forums I read that the CPU temp could be the problem, but I've checked it and It's always around 62°-68°....
In some others they say that the new RAM could be the problem too.
Is anybody able to help me? (Underneath you can check the Panic Report and my mac informations)
Thank you so much.
Antonio

It goes nuts for hours and the next day it acts completely fine. My macbook is impossible to work with when the problem is active; it randomly clicks, drags, selects and even selects words (in a yellow colour) to come up with latin(?!) translations.
Ive tried the reset (option+cmd+r+p) and it seemed to work at first but now it doesnt seem to have any effect whatsoever.
Also tried to apply pressure to the entire surface of the trackpad or just the top corners; no effect whatsoever.
It's been quite an expensive purchase for a young student like me and i've really enioyed it until last week.
I'd be relieved if someone came up with a solution; especially since its warranty has expired for half a year now.Hi there Bram3,
You may find the troubleshooting steps in the article below helpful.

Wake up and sleep issues in Mac OS X 10.5.8
Hi,
Sometimes, after being sleeping for more than a day, when my macbook wakes up it suddenly sleeps by itself (after 15-45 seconds of using).
Usually I close the lid and wait 30 seconds. After this, I open the lid and the problem is solved. But, when it doesn’t happen I have to restart the computer (what is happenig more and more often). Does anyone know what is happening?
As I read in some posts, there are some bugs in Mac OS X 10.5.7 related with wake up and sleep problems. Does anyone know if these bugs remain in the 10.5.8 version? How is it possible to fix this problem?
Thanks,
Luiz GoldoniTry a SMC reset.

Mac Pro 8-core Power Supply Making Humming Noise That Comes And Goes
This is in reference to a Mac Pro 3,1 8-core purchased around Feb 2008.
Lately, I've noticed a strange noise coming from my power supply that sounds like the noise a refrigerator radiator makes. It's a humming noise that rapidly comes and goes, constantly.
The power supply fan speed is running at 599rpm
I'm not sure if the problem could've been caused by adding additional ram (12GB, OWC) or an additional HDD (3rd HDD, WD), but I didn't really notice the noise until after adding these components.
What could be the cause of this problem? What are my repair options if necessary (without Apple Care)?
Thanks in advance.I know for a fact it is not any of my hard drives because the noise is becoming more frequent no matter what hard drive I use, I actually have a 1.5tb, a 1tb, two 500gb and two 320gb drives, I have set an appointment to take my system in and have it tested, it is starting to crash 5-6 times a day. I can not get a lot of work done with this annoying spinning noise and the shutting down. Thank god for my Apple care, and I have visited various forums that lead me to believe its the power supply going out, with the symptoms it is having. This article and others like it explain what to look for when a power supply is going bad.
