Mac Startup problem "Waiting for FTDI ReEnumerate Device"

Hello all
I'm having trouble with a work eMac, afraid I can't login to tell you the exact software version but believe it's Panther.
I placed a new hard drive in an external shell and plugged it into the eMac via USB to see if it works. There was an error message stating that the inserted drive had no volumes that the computer could mount, but after that the computer froze. After restarting the computer boots up, proceeds as far as the apple logo with progress bar, gets to a step "Waiting for FTDI ReEnumerate device" and just stays there.
I didn't install any software to mount the external drive (now disconnected), and testing the drive on other computers none of them can see it at all, not even registering error messages.
Can anyone help me to unstick this computer? Thanks
Luke.

More info: Attempting to restart in safe mode, startup proceeds as normal until the progress bar under the apple logo is nearly complete, and then it stays at "Login Window Starting". The progress bar is still pulsing but not moving, and the computer stays like that.

Trying to caputre a DVD in FCE using a canopus ADVC 55.  We are seeing a message waiting for timecorde and device must be in VTR mode when device control is enabled. Settings on FCE Easy set up will only allow us to use DV-PAL Firewire basic.
    Can you help please?

    We live in Ireland so PAL is correct for us to use.  All settings are correct as follows;
    1.  We wish to transfer a DVD (our own copyright) into an Apple Mac Model OS10 version 10.5.8 using Final Cut Express and using a Canopus Model ADVC-55 converter.
    2. We have connected the Canopus ADVC-55 to the Toshiba DVD player using the Video IN Port, the Audio (L) In Port and the Audio IN Port.
    3. We have connected the correct power supply to the Canopus.
    4. We have connected the Canopus to the Apple Mac using the Firewire supplied (IEEE1394 six pin) (No.1 is switched on 2-6 switched off on the Canopus)
    5. We have opened FCE and using Easy Set Up we have selected DV-PAL Firewire Basic.
    6. We then switch on the Toshiba DVD Player.
    7. We then  select new project in Final Cut and the window shows "VRT OK".
    8. We then select "Capture Now" and a window opens and advises as follows:  "Waiting for Time Code",     Device must be in VTR mode, when device control is enabled.
    9. When we select " DV PAL DV Converter in Easy set up as suggested, We get a window reading,  "Preview disabled"  and "no connection.
    Anyone that can help please??

  • Startup problems--time for a new machine?

I have an imac G5 that I bought last February. In the last few weeks I've been experiencing serious startup problems. When turned on, the screen goes gray and the lines and pixels fragment and shimmer. It takes a long time to go to the main screen and often the screen isn't stable and freezes. It takes me eight to ten startups to get the system stable.
I've repaired disk permissions, repaired h-drive, reset Pram. Still a mess. My husband wants me to just get a new one and get something that is not an Apple this time. I'm resisting that.
I don't want to lose all my data and I've backed up what I can but I'm worried the data is corrupted and if I load it on to a new machine, I will experience the same problems.
Any advice? I'm not even sure if this is a hardware or software problem. I'm out of warranty so I am on my own, but I'm frustrated to be having these problems with such a new machine.
    Thanks for any advice,

  • [solved] systemd times out waiting for dev-null.device on encrypted fs

I have a relatively new install of Arch on my laptop. The relevant sections of the drive setup are a luks encrypted root device (with associated unencrypted /boot), and a large ntfs device encrypted with truecrypt. That contains my home directory, which is shared with the Windows 8 dual-boot on the machine.
I have all this mounted on boot, so my typical usage is to enter my password for the encrypted root, followed by the password for the truecrypt-encrypted data drive, then normal login.
This has been working fine for a couple of weeks. This afternoon I rebooted my machine from Windows to Linux, at which point the secondary encrypted drive failed to mount. The root device mounts fine.
On further examination, in the form of journalctl -xb, I'm getting the following errors after mounting the encrypted root device:
    Feb 12 21:29:54 kafka systemd[1]: Job dev-null.device/start timed out.
Feb 12 21:29:54 kafka systemd[1]: Timed out waiting for device dev-null.device.
-- Subject: Unit dev-null.device has failed
    -- Defined-By: systemd
    -- Support: http://lists.freedesktop.org/mailman/li … temd-devel
    -- Documentation: http://www.freedesktop.org/wiki/Softwar … e9d022f03d
    -- Unit dev-null.device has failed.
    -- The result is timeout.
Feb 12 21:29:54 kafka systemd[1]: Dependency failed for Cryptography Setup for cryptdata.
-- Subject: Unit [email protected] has failed
    -- Defined-By: systemd
    -- Support: http://lists.freedesktop.org/mailman/li … temd-devel
    -- Documentation: http://www.freedesktop.org/wiki/Softwar … e9d022f03d
-- Unit [email protected] has failed.
As my root home directory is on the root filesystem, I can still log in as root. If I try to mount or unmount the truecrypt device (located at /data) the command hangs. After removing "auto,x-systemd.automount" from that device from /etc/fstab and rebooting, I have a significant delay at boot, but I can then mount the /data device as normal.
I can't find anything related to this either here or on Google. Any ideas?

WonderWoofy wrote:A bit OT, but I just want to mention that having your $HOME on ntfs is probably not the best idea either.  It may work, but because it is not a POSIX compliant filesystem, there is a good chance you might run into some issues.
Thanks for the warning. Sadly, as there are applications I need for work that only run in Windows, I need to dual boot this machine with Windows 8.1. This is the best option I can find for sharing my home directory, which is also a necessity due to the amount of data I have to share between the systems. I would much rather trust to ntfs-3g-ar and its UserMapping (and all the fiddling with ACLs that I had to do) than to the Windows ext2 drivers I can find. They all seem to be several years out of date. Linux is much better at talking NTFS than Windows is at talking EXT. (To be honest, I'm actually quite impressed with Windows 8 since the upgrade to 8.1. As a long term Arch user and a fan of tiling window managers it's interesting to see Windows moving in the right direction. )
With 'permissions' in the /etc/fstab and the .NTFS-3G/UserMapping file in place it works almost seamlessly. (It took a lot of tinkering with ACLs in Windows and Linux, but it's working very well now. One tip that I'll write here in case it's of use is that you want the last line of the UserMapping file to be a 'generic' mapping. When I didn't have that there were very strange things going on.)
The only two minor problems I have now are:
    1) A few applications don't like FUSE filesystems. Steam worked for a while and then broke; reinstalling it failed at every stage. When I checked, it seems that FUSE is a known problem for Steam. (I don't think it's restricted to NTFS.) My response to that was to create /home/.local/$HOME on my root (ext4) filesystem and symlink out to it for troublesome applications.
    2) There are a few characters for filenames that Windows doesn't like, making those files inaccessible in Windows. (Colons are the major culprit.) They're usually quite easily renamed. (The exception being my .maildir folder, which I have had to duplicate natively in cygwin.)
Neither of these are anything more than minor niggles. I appreciate the warning, though.
Having said that, if you have an alternative that lets me share a truecrypt-encrypted drive between Linux and Windows that is better than the NTFS-3G approach, I'd love to hear it for future reference.

  • FTP Problem: Waiting for server...

I'm using Dreamweaver MX with the 6.1 patch applied. FTP
appears to connect fine, but then when it starts looking for the
remote folder it says, "waiting for server..." and eventually times
out. While searching the internet for clues to this problem I see
some people say to check off "Passive FTP"....but I don't have an
option to check "Passive FTP". Does anyone have any ideas?

You have that option in your Remote Site definition.

  • Shall I buy Office 365 for my Mac? or wait for Office 2014 for Mac? Will it make a difference to SkyDrive - please help!

    Hello,
I work for a small business and we want to have a space where we can save and share documents with each other and with our clients. The questions I am asking may be simple but I can't seem to find the answers anywhere and just need simple answers back please.
Firstly - Do I buy Office 365 for my Mac or do I wait for ' Office 2014 for Mac'? If so how long do you think it we be until it is released?
    - If I buy Office 365 - does it have skydive? Can I create a document on my computer, save it on skydive and invite a colleageue to view it, she then alters it and saves it? Will this new document then be saved on my skydive folder on my Mac?
If I wait for Office 2014 - do we know if this we have a better/ different sky drive function?
    Please help!

According to your requirment, Office 365 for small business or higher plan suits you. We don't need to wait for ' Office 2014 for Mac' but join family of Office 365 for now.
    Advantage:
Office applications: Subscription to Office for up to 5 PCs/Macs per user.
Office Web Apps: Create and edit Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and OneNote files via a web browser.SkyDrive Pro gives each user 25 GB of personal storage they can access from anywhere and that syncs with their PC. Easily share files internally and
externally and control who sees and edits them.
Office Web Apps: Create and edit Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and OneNote files via a web browser.
    etc...

When syncing my iPhone 4S over WiFi, I keep getting the message "Waiting for Changes to be applied", and the syncing seems to go into a endless sync of death.  When I sync my iPad, not problem at all.  Anyone know how to fix this issue?

Setup: Nokia E61 Windows XP Pro w/Service Pack 2 PC Suite 6.80.53.3 Nokia supplied cable.
The body of this has been essentially copied from two other people who've had the same problem. One's problem spontaneously disappeared while the other's was solved by removing the phone's battery for a minute. My problem was not solved by that and I throw it to the group for its collective wisdom.
I have successfully synchronised my Outlook Contacts & Calendar for over a week. Now I can't. On selecting Synchronise Now in the Nokia PC Sync dialog, the blue & green bubbles continue to rotate and the message 'Connecting to E61'continues to flash for some 5 mins. The message then changes to 'Waiting for the mobile phone to send data'. This continues for approx. 3 mins, where upon synchronisation stops and the message Synchronisation Completed appears. However, 0 entries have been updated, despite several updates to contacts. Previously, having pressed the Synchronise Now button, synchronisation would take typically less than a minute and all updates would be transferred OK. I have tried everything I can think of. Included, completely de-pairing the phone from the PC, uninstalling PC Suite, installing again from scratch and re-establishing the connection. The other functions in PC Suite seem to be fine. For example, I can use the file manager to see what's on my phone. At the bottom of the PC Suite page it says that my phone is connected via USB. At the task bar at the bottom of the Windows screen it also shows everything OK. The icon there says"Nokia PC Suite Nokia E61 conected via USB". It's only when I press the synchronize button on PC Suite that the next screen pops up and says that it's trying to connect. Any suggestions to this vexing problem?

try recreating the sync settings from PC Sync, select settings - create bew settings - and run through the wizard. then sync

  • WAITING FOR TIME CODE....again

Hi, when I try to capture from DV device, the capture window appears "PREVIEW DISABLED" I can remote the dv device, mark time code in or out, play tape, pause tape, the time code in the capture window run and is the same taht the tape, but when I do batch capture, cpture clip or capture now, the preview window of catpure says : "WAITING FOR TIME CODE" "DEVICE MUST IN VTR MODE WHEN DEVICE CONTROL IS ENABLED" and when I abort the capture this message apperas: "THIS OPERATION COULD NOT BE COMPLETED AS THERE IS NO VIDEO", Quicktime pro is unabled to capture too, but IMOVIE capture without this problem. I download the firewire sdk from developer connection of apple and use AVCVideo Cap, and no problem for cature, so , my Firewire or dv devices are ok, with DVHSCap I capture PRO HD JVC very well.
Resume , I think there is a problem with quicktime and DV format, My Ibook G4 with FCP 5.0.1 capture from DV devices OK, without problem. If anybody resolved this please comment with us. I work to day with FCP 6.0.4 and quicktime 7.5 and Mac os 10.4.11 and 10.5.4 the problem is afected my PowerPC G5 and my powerbook intel. Another point of interest is that this problem is RANDOM, some times I can capture from DV devices in the first time, some times I can't capture.

    Hey AL
    How ya doin buddy?
"Either way, try an Easy Setup>DV Converter, to match your video standard (Pal or NTSC)."
    Yep - did that
Yes actually my older Sony TVR-310 camcorder IS a digital unit which can also play back analog tapes.
As I'm getting my way around now in FCE, I'm coming to some conclusions in regard to FCE's capture capability.
First let me say that I've also tried capturing some footage in FCE with my other Sony TVR-950, and have had dropped frames, and also breaks in time code.
I thought dropped frames were strictly a PC issue?
Anyway, it appears to me that FCE is VERY sensitive to time code issues NO matter which camera is in the chain.
In fact, I've also read here where folks have a lot of trouble with their Canon GL2's as well. Some of you have even suggested to do your captures in a cheaper Mini DV, or a clam-shell playback machine. This conserves the heads on your GL2 as well.
But why would FCE do better in regard to capturing and time code, with a cheaper Mini DV Camcorder? Perhaps I'm missing something here?
Perhaps iMovie doesn't care about the same issue?
    Now my main question is:
Ok I'll use iMovie6 HD (tried and true), to capture ALL my footage and just save the DV files to be edited later (imported) into FCE.
Does this sound like a viable solution to FCE's time code issues?
Will my iMovie captures be JUST AS GOOD as if they were done in FCE?
    Thanx so much guys!
    Mike

In the system profiler it said "unable to list firewire device"
    I've tried the following method:
    reset pram
unplug the power cord and wait for 30 mins and reboot
and they couldn't solve the problem.
    Could anyone solve this?
    Thanks

First thing to do is reset the FW chip set on the mother board. Unfortunately, when you power down the computer there is always a bit of power still applied to the motherboard to keep things alive and this usually includes the ports to do stuff like detect when a device wants to wake up the computer. The downside of this is when a bus/port chipset goes into a weird state, locks up, etc., simply power cycling (shutdown & restart) the computer won't work.
So first thing to try is resetting the chipset and to do this you have to power down the computer and completely unplug the computer from the wall power (unplug the power cord to your Mac). Also unplug everything from the Mac's ports (USB, FW, Ethernet, etc.) to make sure no parasitic power is still there to keep the chipset alive. Now let it sit for a minute (give those big power caps in there time to discharge). Now plug the power cord back in, plug in ONLY the keyboard and mouse, start up the Mac. Now plug in accessories/hard-drives and see if your FW ports and the drive work any better.
    Best of luck!

  • IPhone 4  OS 6 - Facetime is stuck on Waiting for activation.....

    Hello,
I recently got myself a new iPhone and I have been unable to get my Facetime to boot up.  It has been stuck on "Waiting for activation..." for over a week and I am unsure how to proceed to get it to start to work again.
If anyone can help me that would be great.

I just activated a new iphone 4s and restored from a backup of my former iphone 3gs - had the same problem - Waiting for Activation on both facetime and imessage. I tried all the usual fixes, reset all, hard reset, turn facetime/imessage on and off, and on and on. 2 hours on phone with tech support to no avail.
I just found the fix on my own - no clue if it will work for everyone. But it's ridiculously easy and worth a shot so you don't waste hours and hours resetting/synching as I did.
All I did was go into settings>phone>my number - erase it by touching the ">". Then re-enter it making sure to input with the "+" and country code. For example in the US: +1(508) 569-9901
No hard reset necessary. I went into settings>facetime and imessage, immediately after inputting my phone number again and the dreaded "waiting for activation" message was gone. I tested sending a message - came thru to the other party fine and facetiming another device (my mom's ipad some distance away) and it rang thru with everything working properly i.e., video/audio.
