Mac stuck on start page

My mac is stuck on the start page. I can only see the Apple page and nothing happens! can somebody help me?

Need help with mac stuck in start up
I was only able to boot in safe mode. I reinstalled os x 10.4 and it rebooted fine. On doing all the updates on the 3rd reboot it is stuck in a blue screen recycle after the mac os x start up screen. Windows starts okay. The extra problem I have is the internal d drive does not work and I use an external dvd drive. Would appreciate any help. I have flashed the pram. I think it might be related to the last updates.
What happens if you run fsck?
Run fsck.
1. Reboot/Startup holding your Command-S key down.
2. At the command line type the following and hit 'Return.'
/sbin/fsck -fy
3. If it finds a problem and repairs it, immediately run fsck again until the drive checks OK.
4. After it has check/repaired your disk, type 'reboot' and hit 'Return' again.

Mac stuck after start, grey display
after a safari session my mac hung up and does not start again. after the start there is the grey display with the apple sign - so far so good. after that, when usually the display changes to the desktop background the display is bright grey and nothing else happens!!!!! tried several key-combinations on start as "c" "v" "s" etc. (note i only have a blutouth keyboard) and a start from snow leopard-DVD - nothing!

Please help. English major, Apple newbie.
My imac (intel, G-4), gets as far as the white screen with the Apple and countdown clock, but never actually starts up.
It's a family computer. I was in one user account w/ admin privileges, had just downloaded most recent updates (itunes and something else). Had been loading a disc in Itunes at same time. When download was complete needed to restart but another user had stuff open, so tried to log out user to close down other person's work in order to restart safely and imac screen went skyblue and stayed that way.
So, I turned off the power, waited, turned on power..came right on, but never fully restarted..got only as far as white screen.
So tried both suggestions for powering problems from manual, restart holding option key. Got the hardware icon as manual suggested, clicked on it. nothing. double-clicked on it, got the white screen.
Turned off power, disconnected power cord. REconnected, and tried again. Same thing.
So then tried powering on with apple, option, p & r held down, got the second reset music, but then....hello again white screen.
I've been staring at the white screen in dismay for twenty minutes now.
Anything else I can do? (Besides visit the rude Genius at the Memphis store?)Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
Unfortunately, your actions may have seriously messed up your Mac. From your description you appear to have done a hard shut down while the Mac was updating the Mac Operating System.
I suggest restarting from the Restore DVD that came with the Mac to see if the damage can be repaired. Start your Mac and immediately slip in the DVD and press and hold the "C" key. When you get to the Installer select your language. Then from the Utilities menu select Disk Utility. In DU select your startup volume in the list in the left hand pane and press the Repair Disk button in the right hand First Aid pane. Hopefully DU can repair the startup volume. If not you may need to reinstall the Operating System, Mac OS X.
If you need to reinstall Mac OS X, try to do an Archive & Install to preserve the User Accounts and everyone's data. If you cannot do an A&I, all data would be lost and the hard drive would need to be erased and then install Mac OS X.
You can see from this experience that updating/upgrading the Operating System, if done haphazardly, can result in grief. You should always close all other user accounts on the Mac before doing a Software Update. It is best to not do other operations simultaneously with the Software Update, like surfing the net or ripping CDs. Stop all other operations and let the Mac's resources be devoted to the update/upgrade.
Lastly, your Mac is not a G4 or a G5, Apple no longer makes those models. You have an iMac Core 2 Duo. -
Mac notebook comes on as normal but stops at load screen. What should I do next. I have tried turning it off and restarting.
Unplug everything except power. Certain peripherals cause this. Return it!

I bought an iphone 4S from somebody at the airport and the person was stranded. but l forgot to ask for the Apple id and l did hard reset when l got to my destination after using it for a week now l am stuck at that page where it needs the apple id to continue set up. now l dont know what to do so that l may start using it. l tried using my apple id from my previous iphone but efforts became fruitless it is giving me a hint of the email like [email protected]. please guys help me out.
You've encountered activation lock.
There is no way to bypass it. If you can't get hold of whoever you bought it from, just turn it over to the police. It's probably a stolen phone.

Mac Book pro start up page then turns off
My Mac book pro goes to the start page and shows the apple logo it will stay on it for about 30 seconds with a loading bar at the bottom and then it turns off. I try to restart it but it just does the same thing over again. Is there anything I can do to get it going again?
If you followed the article then that means you've completed an Erase and Install of your computer (one of the final steps). If the symptom persists after an erase (without restoring from a backup), then the issue is harware in nature and you'll want to get it in for diagnosis:
"If the issue persists after you follow the above steps, you may wish to make an appointment with a Mac Genius at an Apple store, contact AppleCare via phone, or contact an Apple Authorized Service Provider for assistance." -
Email from start page won't open more than one time, once I go back it won't open again no matter how many times I click on it.
Email from email page won't back up once opened. It only goes back to start page after multiple clicks. Running Mac-Mini with OS 10.4.11.

This is wrong to a user. Others could not enter this URL and get access to the website using this information. This is what I meant by "wrong"--its NOT the IP address that the user should use to view/use the web site. The software already knows its using DHCP, etc., so it should know to present the modem's IP and from memory in the past it did. As a wrote earlier, I used to be able to just copy the IP address given.
What Apple probably need are two statements:
To view this computer’s website from the local network use ...
To view this computer’s website from the internet use ...
Even, then I'd question the use of 10.1.1.4. -
I installed Thunderbird a couple of days ago. Now it only opens on 'folders'page and there is no way to get back to start page or the toolbars. I have tried re-start but it still goes to folders. Can anyone tell me what is wrong with it as I can 'get emails or write till I can get out of folders page.
You can't delete it, look on all screens and inside all folders. If you still can't find it on your phone go to Settings>General>Reset>Reset Home Screen Layout. If you really mean folder though, you'll just have to keep looking. This just restores the Photos app icon.

I have now tried to load this book twice. The first time it got stuck during the assembly process on page 6 of 66. The second time it got stuck on page 7 of 66. I've done a preview and it assembles fine. Any ideas would be awesome

By load do you mean order? It appears that there may be a damaged image on page 6 or 7.
Export all of the photos on those two pages to the desktop as Kind = Originals. Open each with Preview and save as a new jpeg file. Import lthose new files into iPhoto, add them to the book and use them to replace the existing photos in those two pages. Now try ordering again.
HOWEWVER, you might try this first: boot into Safe Mode, Mac OS X: Starting up in Safe Mode, and try to order from there. Keep the pdf Preview files you've created to compare with the printed copy when it arrives.

You've posted in a PowerPC old vintage system discussion area.
Do you have an Intel based Mac or a G4/G5 model prior to 2006?
If the computer is running OS X 10.7.5 or later, you may try to Force Quit the computer
by holding the power button down for about a minute. Then try to start the computer
in Recovery mode and if that is present, you can use OS X Utilities, and choose Disk
utility to see if repairing the hard disk drive helps.
Or from the original OS X install DVD, if you have a PPC Mac w/ OS X 10.5.8;
or if Intel Mac w/ optical drive & retail or original install-restore on DVD... Insert
the DVD and hold the C key down on startup to use tools on the Install DVD.
Or before going this far, on attempt to restart, try SafeBoot where you hold the Shift
key down after the start tone, and keep holding it until you see the login screen,
for your user password. Continue holding the Shift key down until you see Desktop
or Finder, then let the key go. This does may allow you to run Disk Utility from
the system in the computer, to see if repair disk permissions can help it.
You may have to use Recovery to attempt a reinstall of the OS X, if you have a
computer that is an Intel-based Mac. You posted in an older Mac area for items
built before 2006, that is before Macs had intel processors: they ran PowerPC.
Should the issue be the probability of whatever you were attempting to get, did not
make it, due to failure of the internet, or other issue, that may have timed out.
With poor or spotty internet, software or system updates or upgrade is problematic.
And if you were also using Wi-Fi, not an Ethernet connection, that usually is worse.
Since iOS is not a Mac OS X system, that is meaningless or not helpful in determining
anything about a Mac, or troubleshooting one. So actual related information is missing.
To supply info about your Computer, its OS X version, and other configuration specs
would help anyone else seeing your vague question.

My iMac 27-inch is stuck at start up
My 27-inch iMac is stuck at start up. The Apple logo is present and the whiz wheel spins but nothing happens. It's been like that for a couple of hours now. It started right after I updated to OS X Maverick. Does anyone have an idea how to fix this? Thanks.
Take each of these steps that you haven't already tried. Stop when the problem is resolved.
Step 1
The first step in dealing with a startup failure is to secure the data. If you want to preserve the contents of the startup drive, and you don't already have at least one current backup, you must try to back up now, before you do anything else. It may or may not be possible. If you don't care about the data that has changed since the last backup, you can skip this step.
There are several ways to back up a Mac that is unable to start. You need an external hard drive to hold the backup data.
a. Start up from the Recovery partition, or from a local Time Machine backup volume (option key at startup.) When the OS X Utilities screen appears, launch Disk Utility and follow the instructions in this support article, under “Instructions for backing up to an external hard disk via Disk Utility.” The article refers to starting up from a DVD, but the procedure in Recovery mode is the same. You don't need a DVD if you're running OS X 10.7 or later.
b. If Step 1a fails because of disk errors, and no other Mac is available, then you may be able to salvage some of your files by copying them in the Finder. If you already have an external drive with OS X installed, start up from it. Otherwise, if you have Internet access, follow the instructions on this page to prepare the external drive and install OS X on it. You'll use the Recovery installer, rather than downloading it from the App Store.
c. If you have access to a working Mac, and both it and the non-working Mac have FireWire or Thunderbolt ports, start the non-working Mac in target disk mode. Use the working Mac to copy the data to another drive. This technique won't work with USB, Ethernet, Wi-Fi, or Bluetooth.
d. If the internal drive of the non-working Mac is user-replaceable, remove it and mount it in an external enclosure or drive dock. Use another Mac to copy the data.
Step 2
If the startup process stops at a blank gray screen with no Apple logo or spinning "daisy wheel," then the startup volume may be full. If you had previously seen warnings of low disk space, this is almost certainly the case. You might be able to start up in safe mode even though you can't start up normally. Otherwise, start up from an external drive, or else use the technique in Step 1b, 1c, or 1d to mount the internal drive and delete some files. According to Apple documentation, you need at least 9 GB of available space on the startup volume (as shown in the Finder Info window) for normal operation.
Step 3
Sometimes a startup failure can be resolved by resetting the NVRAM.
Step 4
If you use a wireless keyboard, trackpad, or mouse, replace or recharge the batteries. The battery level shown in the Bluetooth menu item may not be accurate.
Step 5
If there's a built-in optical drive, a disc may be stuck in it. Follow these instructions to eject it.
Step 6
Press and hold the power button until the power shuts off. Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed to start up, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Use a different keyboard and/or mouse, if those devices are wired. If you can start up now, one of the devices you disconnected, or a combination of them, is causing the problem. Finding out which one is a process of elimination.
Step 7
If you've started from an external storage device, make sure that the internal startup volume is selected in the Startup Disk pane of System Preferences.
Start up in safe mode. Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a Fusion Drive or a software RAID, you can’t do this. Post for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to start and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including wireless networking on certain Macs.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know the login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
When you start up in safe mode, it's normal to see a dark gray progress bar on a light gray background. If the progress bar gets stuck for more than a few minutes, or if the system shuts down automatically while the progress bar is displayed, the startup volume is corrupt and the drive is probably malfunctioning. In that case, go to Step 11. If you ever have another problem with the drive, replace it immediately.
If you can start and log in in safe mode, empty the Trash, and then open the Finder Info window on the startup volume ("Macintosh HD," unless you gave it a different name.) Check that you have at least 9 GB of available space, as shown in the window. If you don't, copy as many files as necessary to another volume (not another folder on the same volume) and delete the originals. Deletion isn't complete until you empty the Trash again. Do this until the available space is more than 9 GB. Then restart as usual (i.e., not in safe mode.)
If the startup process hangs again, the problem is likely caused by a third-party system modification that you installed. Post for further instructions.
Step 8
Launch Disk Utility in Recovery mode (see Step 1.) Select the startup volume, then run Repair Disk. If any problems are found, repeat until clear. If Disk Utility reports that the volume can't be repaired, the drive has malfunctioned and should be replaced. You might choose to tolerate one such malfunction in the life of the drive. In that case, erase the volume and restore from a backup. If the same thing ever happens again, replace the drive immediately.
This is one of the rare situations in which you should also run Repair Permissions, ignoring the false warnings it may produce. Look for the line "Permissions repair complete" at the end of the output. Then restart as usual.
Step 9
If the startup device is an aftermarket SSD, it may need a firmware update and/or a forced "garbage collection." Instructions for doing this with a Crucial-branded SSD were posted here. Some of those instructions may apply to other brands of SSD, but you should check with the vendor's tech support.
Step 10
Reinstall the OS. If the Mac was upgraded from an older version of OS X, you’ll need the Apple ID and password you used to upgrade.
Step 11
Do as in Step 9, but this time erase the startup volume in Disk Utility before installing. The system should automatically restart into the Setup Assistant. Follow the prompts to transfer the data from a Time Machine or other backup.
Step 12
This step applies only to models that have a logic-board ("PRAM") battery: all Mac Pro's and some others (not current models.) Both desktop and portable Macs used to have such a battery. The logic-board battery, if there is one, is separate from the main battery of a portable. A dead logic-board battery can cause a startup failure. Typically the failure will be preceded by loss of the settings for the startup disk and system clock. See the user manual for replacement instructions. You may have to take the machine to a service provider to have the battery replaced.
Step 13
If you get this far, you're probably dealing with a hardware fault. Make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store, or go to another authorized service provider. -
Apple Start page no longer works with Safari 1.3.2?
I just set up an iBook G3 with Mac OS X 10.3.9, with all updates, and opened Safari, which is set to got to the Apple Start page initially:

Safari loads the page, but two areas are blank: the "Hot News Headlines" in the middle of the page, and the "iTunes Movie Trailers" on the left side. No content appears in these areas. If I click on the "All" next to "Hot News Headlines" a page of html-code text appears.
When I load this page in Firefox or Camino, these areas have the expected content: text in "Hot News Headlines" and a picture in "iTunes Movie Trailers".
I know Safari 1.3.2 is pretty old now, and cannot be upgraded to anything later, since it's integrated with 10.3.9; for this reason I recommend using a more current browser such as Camino or Firefox with this System. But I was just wondering: has anyone else seen this behavior? Is Apple's own web page now too much for Safari 1.x to handle?{quote}

Yes, Safari v1.3.2 is quite dated by today's standards. And yes, the Apple StartPage doesn't work for me either 100% on Safari v1.3.2.
Most Panther users have migrated to Camino. FireFox 2 is no longer updated for Panther either.
On Panther I use Opera and SeaMonkey.

Safari doesn't open in start page

since I have installed Mac OS X Lion, Safari doesn't open in start page. It opens always at the last page I was at least. What can I do?Try this:

Locate and open the ‘General’ menu
Near the bottom uncheck the box that says “Restore windows when quitting and re-opening apps” -

I have allso used the FQDN intranet.domain.local in Safari, but I only get the IIS7 start page / logo.
