Mac suddenly needing forever to load a webpage

Suddenly, my MacBook Pro is needing 30-60 seconds to load webpages.  (Okay, 60 seconds if not forever, but close enough.)
It happens about once every five minutes.  I can zip along from page to page ... then suddenly I click a link or tab-open a number of links ... and it needs as much as 60 seconds to load.  The tab reads "connecting" and the little internet arrow spins, but no page.  Then, suddenly a minute later, the pages start to load at full speed.
I thought it might be my internet provider. but it turns out that it's done this several times at several different locations with different providers, so it's almost certain to be a problem in the Mac.
I've cleared the cache and history, restarted, ad nauseum ...
... and suggestions?
-JOHN

  • Safari suddenly takes forever to load, at least 4 minutes of the spinning

I am on an intel MacBook running 10.5.3. Safari suddenly seemed to stop opening a couple of days ago. AFter reading one discussion I found if I leave it alone to spin and don't force quit, even though it says "not responding" it will finallyopen the apple startpage after one and a half to two mintues. But once I close it it does the same darn thing. It opens new pages in tabs in about 10 to 20 seconds.
Worse, after trying everything suggested in other threads, I finally tried to download the new Safari, but the package won't install, even though I am on 10.5.3 and the core services file says so.
I can't seem to read the crash report file in console, alas, so I can't post it here.
    Any help out there?

Are you saying the crash report doesn't display in Console, or that it's garbled characters? Please clarify.
As for downloading Safari, there's no need if you're already running 3.1.1, since there is no more recent version. Have you tried creating a new user account and testing Safari in that to see if it exhibits the same behavior? If not, you should do that, for if there's no problem in that account, that would point to the problem being in your regular user account.
You might also try moving your com.apple.Safari.plist file to the Desktop, since it may be corrupted, and relaunch Safari to see if the problems go away. Once you've reset your preferences for Safari and if there are no problems, you can Trash that file on your Desktop.

  • Mac sites take forever to load

The last couple weeks Firefox has been unbearably slow. Sites take up to a minute to load. I thought it was a problem with beta 36. So I deleted the app and removed the profiles from ~/Library/Application Support/Firefox/Profiles/<profile folder>
    ~/Library/Mozilla/Firefox/Profiles/<profile folder>
I installed the stable 35.0.1 app and didn't install any addons and the problem persists. At this point I would assume it's an ISP issue, but Chrome works fine.
    Any suggestions?

Try to disable IPv6 (check for other possible causes as well).

I've tried safari, chrome, firefox...I've cleared the cache as well. This has been going on for several months and used to be tolerable as it was not every website. Now it has become every website and is impossible to deal with. My roommates computer and my cell phone connect fine. I'm fully connected to the router yet websites don't load. I'm using 10.7.5. Thank you!!

This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. Note: If FileVault is enabled on some models, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually login automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem? After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

  • Suddenly my .mac/.me email will not load on my macbook

suddenly my .mac/.me email will not load on my macbook.  got err messages requesting my pasword and added password and nothing has loaded.

Your signature says you are using 10.5.6 - is this correct. Leopard is not compliant with iCloud's requirements.
You have been using MobileMe's email settings, which sometimes continue to work for a time after migration but then get turned off. iCloud's mail server settings are different. Strictly speaking Lion 10.7.2 is required for iCloud, and on that Mail is set up automatically.
Leopard cannot access most of iCloud's facilities, however you can set Mail up manually to access your email. The method is described here:
    http://www.wilmut.webspace.virginmedia.com/notes/icloudmail.html
You may also need to change your pasasword if it's not compliant with Apple's requirements - at least 8 characters, of which at least one must be a numeeral and one a capital letter.

    Hi, Hugo,
In similar cases it helped to remove the GarageBand "Preferences" file from the User Library.
    Open the folder
your home folder > Library > Preferences
and move the file "com.apple.garageband.plist" to the Desktop.
Then try again to launch GarageBand.

  • Fox tab stopped working once adobe flash player 11 was installed on my mac OS X 10.6.8 it is just a black screen. If I uninstall, fox tab shows up and says I need to down load adobe again

When I double click on the tool bar on the bottom of the black screen on fox tab, adobe settings shows up. I delete adobe then the black screen shows the fox tab again and says to view it I need to down load the latest version of adobe flash player.

Tylerdowner, as a moderator, one would think that, prior to adjusting comments/solutions, especially when not having a Mac, you would do more research (bet you know someone with a Mac, to duplicate problem), or pass responding on to a moderator who does have a Mac (I am amazed that you are even a moderator on Mac problems/situations, if you only have access to a PC). Had the solutions above worked, I would not have needed to figure out another solution (we all know the newest release of anything is the most secure). Finally I am open to any fixes (tested) that you can provide, that improve upon mine. As a moderator, maybe you have pull with the Foxtab and/or Adobe people to get them to work out compatibility, and lastly, maybe add a warning at the Foxtab add-ons page, after verifying the problem yourself, with an associate's/friend's Mac.

For about the past week, Facebook has been taking forever to load (or just doesn't) on my mac (OSX 10.5.8; Safari 5.0.6).  Other sites are fine.  I routinely empty the cache, clear history, cookies, etc. each time I shut down.  Suggestions?

I don't use Facebook, but I can say that clearing the cache every time you shut down is excessive - unless you're sure the cache is corrupt you should leave it alone.  It exists to speed up your browsing experience by loading frequently requested items from your drive rather than downloading them fresh from the internet each time.  So, I would say stop clearing your cache and see what happens.
As for clearing cookies: I'm not sure what method you currently use, but I would recommend you download and install CCleaner.  It's free, and allows you to build up a list of cookies that you want to clear and those you want to keep, before deleting them.
Both of these may help speed things up by reducing the amount of work Safari has to perform whilst browsing.  Regardless, I'd say that, unless there's a reason you've not mentioned for performing the "purging" that you do, making these two changes should see improvements in general web browsing if not specifically when loading Facebook.

  • HT1338 my mac has a virus what do I need to down load to clean it up???

it has moved all my pictures and cd's and created a basic account with with really nothing on it, I had it looked at they said i had a virus and needed to down load something and the mac would the fix its problems but what should I down load????

The chances of this being any sort of malware is small. More likely you allowed somebody physical access to your computer or remote access over your network.
If you scan for malware, be sure to get back to us with the infection name, file name and file location.
If you tell us a bit more about your setup, we can probably give you advise on how to improve security. How do you connect to the Internet, using a WiFi router or attached directly to a cable or DSL modem? If the former, what type of security do you use?
Your profile says you have an iMac running an old version of Leopard, so I suspect you haven't updated it (use Your Stuff->Profile to change) and you are posting in the Mountain Lion forum, so I take it you have upgraded some things. Are we still talking about an iMac here?

  • I need to scan loads of photographs onto my mac, what is the best scanner to purchase?

I need to scan loads of photographs onto my macbook, but need recommendation for brand/type of scanner to puchase that works well with apple

Be sure to scan any black and white photos as color and not Grayscale.  iPhoto doesn't play well with the grayscale profile.
I've used Canon scanners for some time.  There are several good brands that you can choose from so check their specifications for those that will meet your technical requirements and price range.
    Happy New Year

  • Okay so I just got a new MacBook and I'm setting it up. I decided to not download all of my files to iCloud drive and its taking forever to load to the next page. Is this normal for it to take so long? After all I didn't even download my stuff?

why is it taking forever to load!?

The files you are loading into the new computer are by wi-fi? If you have no other option
that may be OK but slow. A faster method would be Ethernet cable from internet router
or modem, instead of wireless. Most of the setup process can take some time.
What are these files? Where are they now?
Do you have a backup on-site, & not online?
Did you check to see if the operating system was updated as part of the setup before use?
The Software Update can locate later parts to the as-shipped system, that may be needed.
Other upgrades or new apps are through the Mac App Store, some through App Store, etc.
As part of the setup, you could use a migration assistant if you have a backup from the old
computer or have other files saved in an external hard drive to import.
Hopefully your process won't be drawn out too long...
    Good luck & happy computing!
