Mac sync'd iPod connect to windows

What happens when I connect an iPod synced to a mac and connect it to a windows. Will it ask me to set up for windows and resync with the windows library or will it do that automatically?

Hello christian1220,
Yes. Upon plugging the iPod in, Windows will alert you that your iPod cannot be read because of its format. From there you can choose to format it. From there, you have to restore it via iTunes.

  • Help! Can't get Windows to recognize Mac sync'd iPod

I have been using my 4G iPod with my iMac G5 to back up files. I'm on the road and urgently need some files and I'm no where near my iMac. I connected my iPod to my Windows laptop and put it in disk mode, but when I try to open it, I get an error message saying I the disk is not formatted. The iPod is also not coming up at all in iTunes. Am I doing something wrong? Besides trying to work between an iMac and a Windows computer!!
    Thanks!

You need special software, such as MacDrive or Xplay to allow a Windows PC to read a Mac formatted iPod.

  • IPod Formatted for Mac... Connect To Windows?

    Hi Gang:
I gave a friend of mine a 60 GIG iPod as a gift. He is in the middle of the Jungle and uses a PC, no access to a Mac. He has a few songs he would like to add to the iPod. I formatted the iPod when I got it for Mac. When he connects it to his PC it wants to re-format the iPod for Windows, of course he would loose all the data on it.
Is there a way to use it under Windows without having to re-format the iPod and lose all the data?
    Thank you, Glenn

"Is there a way to use it under Windows without having to re-format the iPod and lose all the data?"
Yes but it requires the use of some add on software such as XPlay2.
The reason being is that Windows cannot read the HFS+ file system that a Mac formatted iPod uses, so without XPlay or similar software, it needs to be reformatted in order to use it on a Windows PC.

  • Mac formatted iPod connected to Windows

I have a 60gig iPod which is formatted to my iMac. I would like to use my iPod to move files from one machine to another. However when I connect it to a pc it asks me to reformat it everytime. Is there any way to connect to both mac and pc while having my iPod formatted for a mac?

Well, your other option is MacDrive... you can get a free trial(thats if you dont feel like formatting your ipod right yet) and use the ipod as a hard disk to transfer your music to a new computer. It will also enable itunes to write data to a mac formatted ipod. If you want to use it for long term use, you will have to pay for the program. I know i plugged in my mac formatted 4gen ipod and it popped up a messagein itunes asking if I wanted to enable itunes for use with a mac formatted ipod. I was only using mac drive as a temp solution to get music to another computer.
Mac drive is just one of the options, there are a few other programs that can enable mac formatted disks to be written too.

  • How can I sync the ipod touch with windows 7 64 bit

How can I sync the ipod touch with Outlook on windows 7 64 bit?

I'm having the same problem with Windows 7, iTunes has been spotty about recognizing my iPod Touch. Now that I've updates Windows 7 with Service Pack 1 (June 2011), It won't complete a sync or a restore at all on either of my Windows 7 computers.
I have gone through every troubleshooter action recommended by Apple Support, and have not been able to improve the situation at all.
I took my Touch to the Genius Bar at my local Apple Store after trying and failing to complete a restore while troubleshooting, and it restored just fine from a Mac.  Unfortunately, it now gives me an error meesage (Incompatible device) half way through an attempted sync, or iTunes simply freezes.
I even tried removing the Windows SP1, but that was a mess, as my display went all whacky and iTunes crashed immediately upon startup.
The Windows 7 OS ***** in general, particularly with compatibility issues, and not just for Apple products.
Does anyone know how to remedy this situation?
I'm so frustrated and have wasted so much time on this issue that I'm going to throw it all out the window!

  • Mac G5 10.4 connecting to Windows Server 2003 finder windows NOT refreshing

We are not seeing finder contents refresh when connecting to Windows 2003 servers. We are running 10.4.5. This was supposedly "fixed" in 10.4 but we haven't seen it work yet. Who do we contact for support on this? I've tried using "Contextual Menu" which didn't work, and also tried "Finder Sync" which also didn't work. The only thing that did work was Path Finder. Path Finder did provide an auto-refresh but I don't like Path Finder and we won't buy it.
Who do we contact at Apple about this? Or does anyone have any experience like this?
    Thanks very much!

I have the same problem and I did public it in another forum.
Someone told me to write an Applescript like this:
    tell application "Finder"
    tell front window
    update every item with necessity
    end tell
    end tell
Copy it, open Script Editor and save it as an executable application in your Utilities folder. Now put shortcuts to it in your Dock or your Sidebar or whereever. When you run it, the front most windows in the Finder will be refreshed to its most current state from disk.
I tried it but it doesn't help so much. I have no problem at all when I work with Windows Server 2000.

  • Turn off Mac sleep when iPod connected

Is there a way to make a PowerMac running MacOS X 10.4.2 NOT go to sleep when an iPod is connected? I can only charge my iPod by connecting it to the USB bus of the computer. The first time I was charging it, my Mac put the display to sleep and I couldn't get it to wake up. I eventually had to shut down my Mac and then reboot it.
I'd like to be able to set my Mac to sleep normally when nothing is connected but to stay awake with the iPod connected. Is this possible?

    Thanks for the help.
However, I posted this question in another forum and was pointed to an Applescript which utilized the 'pmset' command to change the sleep settings. With that knowledge I was able to write a Unix csh script which checks to see if the iPod is mounted and, if so, calls the pmset command to disable sleep. If the iPod is not mounted, the pmset command is called to enable sleep. In case anyone is interested, here is the script:
    #!/bin/csh
    if (`\ls /Volumes | /usr/bin/grep iPod | wc -l` != 0) then
    /usr/bin/pmset -a displaysleep 0 disksleep 0 sleep 0
    else
    /usr/bin/pmset -a displaysleep 15 disksleep 30 sleep 30
    endif
I then used the Unix 'cron' facility to have the script run once every minute. So, once a minute the system checks to see if the iPod is connected and, if so, disables sleep.
    Thanks anyway for the suggestions.

  • Changing Ipod connection fom Windows to Mac.

I am trying to change over my Ipod to update from my Mac instead of my PC.
Have downloaded the Ipod updater using software update my Mac so presumably it is the correct format (ie not Windows)
Followed the steps advised in previous related topics, ie run updater, plug in Ipod when prompted etc but I get a message that advises that the I have inserted a disk containg no volumes that MACOSX can read. There are 3 options in this window. Eject, Ignore or Initialize. I have tried all 3 options with no luck. When i click on ignore it goes back to the updater window. This shows the software version, the serial number but under Format- Unknown.
When I then click on restore it goes through the "motions" looking like it is restoring but then comes up with and error message saying there was an error formatting the Ipod.
If I choose Initilize the Disk Utility launches, sometimes showing the Ipod and other times not
    Any help would be appreciated.

    Hello,
Try to connect your iPod with your Mac (put it in Disk Mode), open the disk utility, if you can see it there (please try few attempts) go to Tab "Partition" and click "Parition". Once it has been done, eject your iPod and do a Reset, then plug your iPod with your Mac and open the iPod updater and click Restore.

  • Can I connect my mac-sync'd iPod to a PC?

Can I connect my 4G (Clickwheel with B&W screen) iPod, which has always been sync'd to a Mac to my Dell laptop at home without having the hard drive on the iPod get formatted? Didn't they used to be exclusive, or am I imagining things... Oh, and yes, I know, I'm going the wrong way (Mac to PC) but it's my home computer that is more my wife's. She's getting my iPod and I'm getting a shiny new classic. Woo Hoo.
So, can I hook it up, or do I need to burn all my music on DVD and transfer it that way?
    Thanks,
    Scott

As far as I know your PC iTunes will ask if you want to sync at the new location (meaning format the iPod). There are some programs you can use to pull all of your music off - but it's been a while since I've used one. I had a HDD crash once and needed to pull everything off the iPod.
I just saw this - has some programs listed:

    Good luck.
