.mac sync fail/freeze

although i have gotten a more recent system (new computer with os 10.6.x), i still incorporate my old powerbook (running os 10.4.11) into the mix of computers i use. i have been encountering a recent problem though with my .mac sync on the old system.
i can easily get everything up and running to sync with .mac (mobileme in the newer systems) and everything runs fairly smoothly for awhile. then out of nowhere the .mac sync will fail and whenever i try to sync (as i always do), it locks up until i get an error message informing me of the fail.
as a test to the server, i created a new user on the same computer, and registered the computer to sync, and all the syncing happens again in that new account. the original one stays locked up though when i go back to it.
i just don't get it. this has happened to me on two occasions now, and my only fix has been to rebuild my desktop from scratch as a new user, and delete the old one.
i thought it may be a keychain issue, so i've tried to fix that by deleting the keychains that look applicable to .mac (not sure if i'm doing it correctly though) and i've fixed my permissions using disk utility. i've also re-entered my .mac password and user name info on that first sync tab in case something went suddenly funny (and that comes up as being valid...as does the list that shows my computer is still registered as a device that is included in the syncs to the cloud).
any ideas on what to do if it happens again? it's pretty tedious to have to rebuild everything to my preferences. the most frustrating thing is that everything will work fine for quite awhile and then it suddenly it just doesn't.

All,
I finally got my work G5 to sync up to .mac after I forcefully reset all my .mac data from my home PowerBook using its good local data. Then I was able to get back to my G5 the next day and let it re-sync to the "fresh" data now on .mac. It also happens that I had just done (a day or two before) a fresh system install of Tiger and then the 10.4.2 update on the PowerBook, so something in that process may have helped fix the original problem (whatever it was!). The G5 was also running 10.4.2, but I did not reinstall its system software.
Tracy, I wish you the best in syncing your data. If not running the latest Tiger, you may want to install that first. Good luck!

Whenever I connect iPhone 3GS to sync with Mac sync fails to open. Brand new are there any upates I am unaware of?

"sync" fails to open?  Do you mean, iTunes?
If you manually open iTunes, does your iPhone show up in the left column?
    If so...
Click on your iPhone in the left column of iTunes.
Click on the "Summary" tab in the right colum of iTunes.
    Scroll down to "Options"
Select "Open iTunes when this iPhone is connected"
    Apply

  • Repeated iPhone/Mac sync fails, confiscated ringtones

Hi - here is a record of the sync fails' issues happening to me now between my 2011 iPhone 4 and my 2009 MacBook:
after restoring it because it kept failing to sync music playlists or failing to play songs in the order I set up, it now fails to load the ringtones I purchased on iTunes in the past 4 years... so it looks like iTunes is confiscating them from me and I have no intention to switch to Apple's ****** default ringtones that are now the only ones available in my phone's Sounds settings, against my own choice.
    I tried:
    - re-syncing my phone again (as usual to my Apple MacBook)
    - switching my phone off before and after re-re-syncing
    - checking ringtone sync boxes on and off before re-re-re-syncing
    but it still doesn't help.
In addition, iTunes continues to generate photo duplicates and re-importing photos I previously deleted, and so every sync is increasingly annoying and I also noticed my iPhone kept having more and more wifi network connection interruptions than ever.
If these multiple sync ****-ups are Apple's strategy to push customers to upgrade to newer iPhones, it rather makes me feel like buying another brand's phone the next time around since iPhones aren't really the best deal on the market any longer.
In addition, since Apple never rewarded my loyalty for buying not only  its laptop computers and phones, but also its software, apps, spare batteries and tunes, I am seriously doubtful iPhone may still be the best sync match to MacBooks.
I hope a better user experience can soon prove me wrong, but it really hasn't happened yet. I hope Apple is working on solutions instead of letting these problems, fails and customer discontent grow.

I shared my experience, hoping to find a solution through other users dealing with the same problem... found threads with the same issue appearing three years ago, with users suggesting solutions such as renaming or reloading the ringtones.
In the meantime I rebooted and re-synced my iPhone again a few times, and it seems Apple still has no solution to this recurring problem despite a recent software update.
If you have better news, please let me know.

  • .Mac Syncing . . .

I am running 10.4.11 and am trying to sync my computer's info with .Mac (MobileMe). However, when I open the System Preferences and select .Mac from the panels, I get the following message, "There was a problem with the Sync operation. .Mac login failed."
I thought initially that my password was incorrect. But my username and password will log me into my iDisk as well as into MobileMe via the web. Any suggestions?

    I have a similar problem.
I have 3 machines, all running 10.4.11. 2 of them synced (before the .me migration), one did not.
In Ical preferences, the synchronize calendar box is grayed and there is the following message: Your .mac account information is not correct or you did not turn on synchronization in the .mac Preference Pane
When I go to .mac in system preferences, under the Sync tab, I am unable to check off any of the programs that can be synced. If I try to check off the synchronize with .mac box, the check appears then immediately disappears. Going to advanced, pressing the Register this Computer button. causes nothing to happen.
I have no problems accessing my account or idisc.
I have reset my sync data,
    reset my .mac password
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thank you,

    Carolyn,
You set me on the right path. com.apple.syncservices.ConflictResolver.plist could not be found. So, I started deleting preference files and rebooting.
    First
    com.apple.DotMacSync.plist
    Then
    com.apple.isync.plist
    Then
    com.apple.dotmaccertificatefix.plist
In all of the above cases I received the following error message when I went to system preferences / .mac / sync tab
"There was a problem with the sync
    .Mac login failed"
    Then
    com.apple.dotmactranslator.plist
at system preferences / .mac / sync tab
Dot mac then told me that there were two of my computers using the same name. This might have been left over from the migration assistant
I changed the name of the computer that was giving me an error instead of syncing and that solved the problem.
    Thank you all.

  • 10.5.3 Breaks .Mac Syncing

This morning I updated my Mac Book Pro and my Mac Mini to 10.5.3. .Mac sync settings and conflicts ensued. I'm now trying to "resolve" these conflicts by unregisterring my two Macs and doing a fresh sync. Hitting lots of problems.
Before I go further in this thread, let me say that I feel this thread belong here, in "Using Mac OS X Leopard". I feel these problems were created due to the upgrade especially sync .Mac seems to have been touched as part of the upgrade in the Apple upgrade description.
First, though I'm able to unregister my two Macs when I try to re-register the Mac Book Pro I get an error telling me that it's already registered under the same name, and if I register it again problems will occur. OK - sounds fair but why does .Mac still considered my MBP as a registered device when the OS X.Mac system preference allowed me to unregister it?
Second, though I'm able to un-register both Macs and suggest to .Mac to delete all previously sync'd content (via a convenient OS X system preference pop-up dialog), the original 168 sync conflicts remain.
Third, when I try to refresh my sync, it errors out stating that the sync has failed. My assumption is that this occurs b/c the OS still thinks there are 168 sync conflicts.
RESOLUTION (I think this is working ...)
As I'm typing this I'm trying something different which seems to be working. Hopefully others will find this prescription useful:
    1. Update OS X to 10.5.3
    2. Note if you have .Mac sync conflicts
    3. If you're Mac is in a known-good-state (ie - the data there is more current and 'right' than on .Mac), resolve your conflicts from the Mac pushing back up to .Mac
    4. System Prefs > .Mac > Sync (tab) > Advanced (button) > unregister your macs
    5. System Prefs > .Mac > Sync (tab) > Synchronize with .Mac (checkbox) > check it; set to manual
    6. System Prefs > .Mac > Sync (tab) > Sync (button) > start your sync
If this procedure works, go ahead and set the "Synchronize with .Mac" back to Automatically, if that's your preference.
NOTE: As I'm writing this, I notice that the sync has stopped as far as the .Mac sync icon shows in the menu bar; it's not moving. However, in the .Mac system preferences, the status reads, "Status: Preparing .Mac Sync ...".
I'll keep this post updated if anything changes.

Similar problems here. I got duplicate calendars on both the iBook (updated from .Mac) and MBP (this updates .Mac) after 10.5.3 upgrade and subsequent normal scheduled sync with .Mac.
So I trashed MBP Calendar files, recovered to MBP from a known state back up (not Time Machine), deregistered both machines, re-registered both, set .Mac to sync from PBP and sync'd. Duplicates again but not duplicate of all entries on duplicated calendars.
Checked sync rules, they had reset to .Mac to update MBP. Changed rules back to MBP update .Mac and sync'd again - same result. Trashed Calendar files, trashed any pref with sync in file name, restored and stopped.
When I check .Mac sync rules, it has always reset to .Mac updates MBP - so I have just abandoned .Mac as I do not have time for this. Touch wood, MBP to iPhone sync is OK.
    Any ideas appreciated.

  • IPod shuffle will not sync with iTunes 7.3; "iPod sync failed"

My shuffle is acting weird lately. For example, when I plug in the iPod and try to add songs and/or sync the device, iTunes says, "iPod sync failed. Disconnect and reconnect, then try again." It's really annoying because I can't add any songs to it or change any settings. Please help me! I have tried almost everything to save my shuffle and have restored it about 6 times!

Have you tried a Disk Repair in the Disk Utility?
Also, you could have a damaged iPodDriver.kext file.
You can replace it by doing an archive and install or
use a 3rd party extractor and get it from your
Install disk. Or copy it from a friends Mac.
I have tried the Disk Repair in Disk Utility and it says my iPod shuffle is perfectly normal. I then decided to erase it with Disk Utility using Mac OS Extended (Journaled) but it didn't work, either. I am beginning to think this is a software problem with my computer...
I will try to replace the iPodDriver.kext file, but unfortunately, I lost the Tiger install disc. Can I use the install disc that came with my eMac (Mac OS X 10.2 Jaguar, I think)? Please let me know soon, and thanks for helping!
P.S. If I can't install it from my eMac install disc, I think I will copy the iPodDriver.kext file from a computer at my library or somewhere else. I can also borrow a friend's Tiger disc and use Pacifist, a great program for extracting .pkg files, to get a fresh iPodDriver.kext file.

  • .Mac login failed | Computers no longer registered with my .Mac account

Ever since the new year 2007, I can't sync my two computers with my .Mac account. The account, ID, and password still function. However, the computers no longer show up as registered. I have 302 days left on my .Mac account.
I always get a ".Mac login failed" error message. Does this have something to do with the date change.
Any help? I need this function urgently.

I too am having this very same problem. Have you found out how to fix this yet? I cannot sync with my Powerbook laptop or my .Mac account either. It also shows no registered computers when I know I've registered 3 of them. We pay alot of money to have the .Mac account and right now it is USELESS. VERY FRUSTRATED right now!

  • .Mac Sync Notice

I have to say with a great deal of frustration that in over a year my iSync hasn't worked totally on any of my computers. It's been one issue after another, calenders, contacts, bookmarks etc., etc. I've owned Macs since the original 128 and have never had an issue like this that's been unresolved for this long. I actually just gave up on iSync but I tried it again today and this time I get this
Window>.Mac Sync Error>The sync was either cancelled or timed out.
    and this Window>
.Mac Sync Error>An inconsistency detected on .Mac for your Contacts data prevented your sync from completing! You should consider resetting .Mac from a computer with good data.
Is there a cure for this or should I just shelve iSync and move along?

everytime i plug my iphone into my computer to sync it freezes up and i have to restore it to factory settings... what can i do to fix this?

Mac OS 10.6 Snow Leopard came out in July of 2009 and became obsolete in July of 2011 when 10.7 Lion was introduced. Unlike earlier Operating Systems which were removed from the Apple Store when a new OS came out Apple kept Snow Leopard around for a year until 10.8 Mountain Lion came out. When Mountain Lion came out they removed Snow Leopard and Lion from the online store.
The Early 2006 model 1,1 Core Duo can only run a maximum of 10.6 Snow Leopard. The models Late 2006 Core 2 Duos 2,1 through Early 2008 4,1 can only run a maximum of 10.7 Lion. The Late 2008 model 5,1 Aluminum Unibody through the Mid 2010 White Unibody model 7,1 can run 10.8 Mountain Lion.
The Snow Leopard 10.6 DVD should still be available from Apple for $20. You will have to call Apple Customer Care 1-800-692-7753 or 1-800-676-2775 to purchase it. It may still be in the Legacy Products list.
If they no longer have any in stock you will have to buy it from eBay or Apple resellers that still have stock. But you will have to pay a premium since the DVDs are no longer being made. Snow Leopard DVDs are already up to $100 on Amazon.
