Mac System Preferences Not Found

Dear,
Recently, I remove the system preferences from dock to desktop and into smoke. Now, I try looking for it but not success. Not even found in applications.
What should I do?
Pls help.
Thks,

Mark,
1. I am confident that you can fix your Help Viewer problem, by following the instructions in Troubleshooting Help Viewer by Dr. Smoke.
2. The "Date and Time" malfunction which you describe in the menu bar is a clue that indicates a possible problem with another preference called SystemUIServer.plist. Search for "systemuiserver". You should find two files, one called "com.apple.systemuiserver.plist" and another one with a very similar name, but some letters and numbers before ".plist." Move both of them to your desktop and restart the computer.
3. If the previous step is not successful, create a new "Administrator Account" for your computer and name it something like "Test." The linked article title says: Mac OS X 10.3 Help, but the instructions will also apply to 10.4. Test your System Preferences while operating from this new account. Is there any improvement?
4. If System Preferences operates normally in the "Test" account, log back in to your user account and follow the procedures listed in Resolving Disk, Permission, and Cache Corruption, also by Dr. Smoke.

    Please read this whole message before doing anything.
    This procedure is a diagnostic test. It won’t solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
    Third-party system modifications are a common cause of usability problems. By a “system modification,” I mean software that affects the operation of other software — potentially for the worse. The following procedure will help identify which such modifications you've installed. Don’t be alarmed by the complexity of these instructions — they’re easy to carry out and won’t change anything on your Mac.
    These steps are to be taken while booted in “normal” mode, not in safe mode. If you’re now running in safe mode, reboot as usual before continuing.
    Below are instructions to enter some UNIX shell commands. The commands are harmless, but they must be entered exactly as given in order to work. If you have doubts about the safety of the procedure suggested here, search this site for other discussions in which it’s been followed without any report of ill effects.
    Some of the commands will line-wrap or scroll in your browser, but each one is really just a single line, all of which must be selected. You can accomplish this easily by triple-clicking anywhere in the line. The whole line will highlight, and you can then either copy or drag it. The headings “Step 1” and so on are not part of the commands.
    Note: If you have more than one user account, Step 2 must be taken as an administrator. Ordinarily that would be the user created automatically when you booted the system for the first time. The other steps should be taken as the user who has the problem, if different. Most personal Macs have only one user, and in that case this paragraph doesn’t apply.
    Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
    ☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
    ☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
    ☞ If you’re running Mac OS X 10.7 or later, open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the page that opens.
    When you launch Terminal, a text window will open with a line already in it, ending either in a dollar sign (“$”) or a percent sign (“%”). If you get the percent sign, enter “sh” (without the quotes) and press return. You should then get a new line ending in a dollar sign.
    Step 1
    Copy or drag — do not type — the line below into the Terminal window, then press return:
    kextstat -kl | awk '!/com\.apple/{printf "%s %s\n", $6, $7}'
    Post the lines of output (if any) that appear below what you just entered (the text, please, not a screenshot.) You can omit the final line ending in “$”.
    Step 2
    Repeat with this line:
    sudo launchctl list | sed 1d | awk '!/0x|com\.(apple|openssh|vix)|edu\.mit|org\.(amavis|apache|cups|isc|ntp|postfix|x)/{print $3}'
    This time, you'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. You may get a one-time warning not to screw up. You don't need to post the warning.
    Note: If you don’t have a login password, you’ll need to set one before taking this step. If that’s not possible, skip to the next step.
    Step 3
    launchctl list | sed 1d | awk '!/0x|com\.apple|edu\.mit|org\.(x|openbsd)/{print $3}'
    Step 4
    ls -1A /e*/mach* {,/}L*/{Ad,Compon,Ex,Fram,In,Keyb,La,Mail/Bu,P*P,Priv,Qu,Scripti,Servi,Spo,Sta}* L*/Fonts 2> /dev/null
    Important: If you synchronize with a MobileMe account, your me.com email address may appear in the output of the above command. If so, anonymize it before posting.
    Step 5
    osascript -e 'tell application "System Events" to get name of every login item' 2> /dev/null
    Remember, steps 1-5 are all drag-and-drop or copy-and-paste, whichever you prefer — no typing, except your password. Also remember to post the output.
    You can then quit Terminal.

  • .mac System Preference "Synchronize with .Mac"

    In the .mac System Preferences in the Sync tab there is an option to "Synchronize with .Mac." In doing some testing, a value of "Automatically" does not seem to trigger a sync as I would expect when a selectable item (like "Calendars") is changed. Does anyone know what initiates a sync when "Automatically" is specified?

    HI,
    Go here: http://www.apple.com/mobileme/setup/mac/
    Automatically means it syncs when updates are available.

    My mac book pro in system preference not open so how guide to sample?

    Hello,
    First, Safe Boot , (holding Shift key down at bootup), use Disk Utility from there to Repair Permissions, test if things work OK in Safe Mode.
    Then move these files to the Desktop for now...
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.finder.plist
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.systempreferences.plist
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.desktop.plist
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.recentitems.plist
    Reboot & test.
    PS. Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.

  • PMU Reset and System Preferences not Responding-Always 1969

    Hi, I am having a problem that I have not been able to match up on forums (mostly because it's sort of hard for me to pinpoint a short way of typing it up).
    I have had a problem before, with my PB not responding (to turning on after turning itself off), so I was familiar this morning when I found myself having to unplug the power adapter, unlatch the battery, holding the Power button for 5 seconds, plugging in the power and locking in the battery and finally Power again to reviving my Powerbook G4.
    As usual, after startup, the date has been changed to December 1 1969 so if not changed, the computer may act erratically. My problem this particular time is that I cannot change the date or time! I can't even open System preferences, or use Get Info on my desktop icon of my computer's harddrive. It acts as if it's not responding, holding down my pointer on the System Preferences in the dock gives me the Options such as start on login, hide, Force Quit but when I go to click Force Quit, it does nothing. I cannot use Command-Option-Esc to open the Force Quit window. I click on the Apple pulldown tab at the top left of my screen and Force Quit does not respond there as well. THIS IS SO UNUSUAL TO ME and I am at a total loss at how to get things running smoothly again. I have restarted my powerbook a couple times (but only able to do this by holding down Power for a few seconds, again the Apple pulldown bar then Restart does nothing) but nothing changes the not responding System Preferences.
    Any help would be greatly appreciated or even a hint at how to search this problem, narrow it down to a few words, searching 'System Preferences not responding or freezing' hasn't given me any similar troubleshooting results.
    Thank you in advance

    laurenlovescomputers,
    reset the PMU again.

  • Business system RD1 Not Found

    Hi All,
    when i was trying to import the tpz from XI Dev into QA (XI Dev and XI QA are using the same SLD)
    i get the error:
    Import failed because of business system transfer of object Service | RD1: Obligatory transport target for business system RD1 not found in System Landscape Directory
    But i already have the RD1 in the SLD and define the transport target, the target business RQ1 is already in it.
    what's more SLDCHECK is fine, and i try to clear sld cache but without any luck.
    Please help
    thanks a lot

    Hi,
    It seems like you have different GUIDs for SCV within XI system and SLD. Thus while transporting it will create the problem, as the GUID conflicts with SLD side GUID.
    Changing the GUID is possible but must be done in a consistent way within the XI system and SLD

  • Location 3110 (type code 1003, system TM8500) not found

    Hi ,
    i am sending some data for TransportationOrderSCMRequest interface via XI to TM system
    XML input data having value of  LoadingLoction - Internal ID 3110 and type code 1003,
    Unloading location Internal ID US-CUST-07 type code 1010
    Message status is XI is sucessful but in TM system (SXMB_MONI)  XML message status is transfer to external system  with follwoing error
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8" ?>
    - <n0:StandardMessageFault xmlns:n0="http://sap.com/xi/SAPGlobal20/Global">
    - <standard>
      <faultText>Standard Message Fault</faultText>
    - <faultDetail>
      <severity>error</severity>
      <text>Location 3110 (type code 1003, system TM8500) not found</text>
      <id>477(/SCMTMS/TOR)</id>
      </faultDetail>
      </standard>
      </n0:StandardMessageFault>

    Hi Amit,
    To check whether the location is present in TM (And I am referring to TM 8.0), open NWBC (either using t-code NWBC or launching your locally installed version).  Select Master Data - Transportation Network - Define Location.  Enter the values from the error message into the Location and Location Type fields and hit display.  If it is not there, you will need to CIF it over from your ECC system (or you could create it in TM, but recommend CIF).  The t-codes to CIF it over are CFM1 and CFM2.
    Regards,
    Mike

  • NameNotFoundException:com/collaxa/system/DomainManagerBean not found

    I am trying to invoke a Business Process from a web application. The business process is deployed in OC4J BPEL PM Server and the web application is deployed in the OC4J AS that comes with the BPEL PM Server. The code that i wrote to invoke the business process is below.
    Hashtable props = new Hashtable();
    props.put(Context.PROVIDER_URL, "rmi://localhost/");
    props.put(Context.INITIAL_CONTEXT_FACTORY,"com.evermind.server.rmi.RMIInitialContextFactory");
    props.put(Context.SECURITY_PRINCIPAL, "admin");
    props.put(Context.SECURITY_CREDENTIALS, "welcome");
    props.put("dedicated.connection","true");
    Locator locator = new Locator("default","bpel", props);
    IDeliveryService deliveryService = (IDeliveryService)locator.lookupService(IDeliveryService.SERVICE_NAME );
    deliveryService.post("ApprovalProcess", "initiate", nm );
    While executing the above code, It throws an exception saying "javax.naming.NameNotFoundException: com/collaxa/system/DomainManagerBean not found". I tried with different permutation combinations. It didn't work. I tried mentioning the provider url as "ormi://localhost/", "rmi://localhost/", "ormi://localhost:23791", "ormi://localhost:9700", "rmi://localhost:23971", "rmi://localhost:9700" and tried removing the "dedication.connection" property also. Nothing worked.
    The same thing is working in Weblogic BPEL PM Server but we want this to work in OC4J BPEL PM Server.
    Please suggest me a solution to this.

    here is the detailed properties.
    properties.put("java.naming.factory.initial",                         "com.evermind.server.rmi.RMIInitialContextFactory");
                   properties.put("java.naming.provider.url", "ormi://localhost");
                   properties.put("java.naming.security.principal",
                             "admin");
                   properties.put("java.naming.security.credentials",
                             "welcome"

  • System Preferences not responding when opening desktop

    After installing Lion 10.7, I find that whenever I try to change the desktop wallpaper in system preferences, it freezes and I have to force quit it.
    I tried to find the systempreferences.plist, as seen from google searches, but I can't find it anywhere, and those seem to be solutions for SL, L or Tiger.
    Help appreciated.
    Thanks!

    I've been having the same issue with system preferences in osx lion freezing and not doing anything for the past week.  Your post solved the problem; all I had to do was move the iphoto library and the photo booth library to the desktop, then I moved them back to my pictures folder in the finder window.  Now system preferences works like a charm, even if I restart the system the system preferences utilities are all accessible.
    This solved the problem; whereas other posts that had me use disk utility to repair the hard drive or repair the disk permissions didn't solve the issue.
    This now saves me a call to apple tech support
    Thank you.

    It has to do with a problem accessing the images on the home>images folder. To solve it, just move its content (iphoto library included) to another place. Then, restart System Preferences. Moving your iPhoto library to another location seems to fix the problem. I am sure Apple will issue an update to correct this problem. But, for now this seems to work for me.

  • Mac Mini - System Preferences Not Responding

    Hi
    I'm using a Mac Mini with OS X 10.9.3 software. Today, I finally uninstalled Mackeeper using CleanMyMac Uninstaller and the only discernable difference I have is that my screen saver administered through the System Preferences 'desk top and screen saver' option fails to find the iphoto library. System preferences will continue to respond providing I remain with one of the default 'flurry', 'arabesque' etc. options but as soon as I try to select an option allowing me to link to my photo's, i.e., shifting tiles, the system preferences will hang after about 5-10 seconds. I have tried the 'moving the iphoto library/photobooth/pictures folders from their curent position to desk top and back again' recommendation I have read in other threads, rebooting, disk utility checks, all to no avail.
    Does anyone have any ideas?
    Many thanks.

    You used one worthless scam "utility" to remove another.
    Remove "CleanMyMac" by following the first set of instructions on this page. If you have a different version of the product, the procedure may be different. Do not drag the CleanMyMac application to the Trash.
    Back up all data before making any changes.
    Remove "MacKeeper" as follows.
    "MacKeeper" is a scam with only one useful feature: it deletes itself.
    Note: These instructions apply to the version of the product that I downloaded and tested in early 2012. I can't be sure that they apply to other versions.
    If you have incompletely removed MacKeeper, then you'll have to reinstall it and start over.
    IMPORTANT: "MacKeeper" has what the developer calls an “encryption” feature. In my tests, I didn't try to verify what this feature really does. If you used it to “encrypt” any of your files, “decrypt” them before you uninstall, or (preferably) restore the files from backups made before they were “encrypted.” As the developer is not trustworthy, you should assume that the "decrypted" files are corrupt unless proven otherwise.
    In the Finder, select
    Go ▹ Applications
    from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-A. The "MacKeeper" application is in the folder that opens. Quit it if it's running, then drag it to the Trash. You'll be prompted for your login password. Click the Uninstall MacKeeper button in the dialog that appears. All the functional components of the software will be deleted. Restart the computer.
    ☞ Quit MacKeeper before dragging it to the Trash.
    ☞ Don't empty the Trash. Let MacKeeper delete itself.
    ☞ Don't try to drag the MacKeeper Dock icon to the Trash.
