  • Can anyone shed some light on how to run window based application on mac air?  I must run Meta Trader 4 platform and MS Office.

    Hello,
Can anyone please shed some light on how I can run MS Office and Meta Trader 4 platform on mac air.  I have been using Play on Mac and Wine for the past couple of weeks, but now suddenly it has stopped working, only crashing and giving me nightmares.  Is it juts best to install the latest Windows or Parallel?
    Regards Joe

Meta Trader 4 is Windows only - Office is available for the Mac and Windows and are mostly compatible but given that you'll be doing online trading you may prefer the Windows version of Excel since there are financial spreadsheets with macros that only run on the Mac with some significant editing.
You can install Windows 7 or 8 in BootCamp or any version of Windows usting virtualization. VMWare and Parallels are commercial programs and VirtualBox is open source. VB may be all you need. Whatever solution you choose, you'll need a commercial version of Windows (or get an OEM disc from NewEgg).

Bring it in for service.  Anytime hardware test detects an error, that's an indication the service department needs to fix it.

  • 4SNS/1/40000001: VPOR-0.878

Please, I am new to this site. How can I solve this error message after running the Hardware test: " 4SNS/1/40000001: VPOR-0.878"?

That error indicates that there is a faulty sensor in your MBP.  You will have to take your MBP to an Apple store genius bar for a repair.
    Ciao.

Did you run this test with the MacBook Pro plugged to the charger? If not, do that. It looks like the MacBook Pro wasn't plugged to the charger

Indicates a sensor on the logic board has failed. Make an appointment at an Apple store to confirm. You can also try an SMC reset, then run the Apple Hardware test again:

  • Apple Hardware Test Error: 4SNS/1/40000001: IDOR-0.958 what's wrong?

    Hello
i swapped SSD in MBA A1369 to an OWC 256GB, it worked well since 2 months until yesterday.
When I opened screen to wake up, it showed only blinking folder with question mark so it couldn't find startup volume.
SSD is invisible in Disk utilities and Apple Hardware Test shows: 4SNS/1/40000001: IDOR-0.958.
I don't know what this error means, is it any way to repair it on my own?
If not, memory seller will exchange item, but I'm asking you guys, before shipping.
    Thanks in advance

Your machine is absolutely fine. Run the test again with your power connected.

Just to make certain, you inserted the original installation disk and started the MBP holding down the C key?  Did the Optical drive reject the disk or did it just spin?  If the former, the lens in the drive may be dirty and needs to be cleaned.  If the latter, you will have to take it to an Apple repair facility.
    Ciao.

Hello (hopefully someone can shed some light on my issue)
I own as above a MAC PRO (Early 2008) this has a RAID card installed along with two 15k.7 cheetah hdd (320gb) and a spare drive, (which i made a regular drive)
a while ago i had to replace the RAID card battery, so i did this, over a year later the same thing happened again, but as previous just left it and the system seemed fine for ages, until last night i was working in PHOTOSHOP and everything just froze and the screen kind of appeared GREEN, could not do a single thing. So restarted the mac, this time grey screen for ages and a message appeared, (macs version of blue screen) (see attached).
I restarted the machine and this time a flashing question mark folder!
    could not do a thing.
so i found my copy of snow leopard and got the computer to run this and at least launch the DISK UTILITY and (Interestingly in the drop down menu RAID UTILITY was also in the menu) but it did not matter which utility i used the (RAID or DISK) neither could see any of drives, just the dvd drive.
so looked around on you tube and various forums and discovered if i take out the RAID CARD and re-plug the main lead from the RAID card back in to the LOGIC BOARD I would be reverting the MAC to a normal regular non-RAID computer.
After performing this HARDWARE task and inserting all three HDD, and running the DISK utility from the drop down menu via the SNOW LEOPARD disc.
(interestingly since the RAID card had been removed the RAID UTILITY  from the drop down menu no longer appeared). running disk utility I can now only see the regular (spare) hdd and DVD Drive, but the two RAID HDD , again, still do not show up DISK UTILITY?
O.K. so i could chuck out the RAID card (AND RAID HDD) and just go with a regular set-up, and run a back restore from Time Machine on a NEW hdd purchased.
but what is wrong with the RAID, is the card at fault or are both HDD used for the RAID knackered? can i perform any tests, to see whats what?
thanks for your help in advanced.

hello people, the issue was in fact the GRAPHICS card nothing to do with the HDD or RAID system ( although this did cause issues with the RAID system it basically lost its way) below is my replay to another similar  problem some one else had!
working in photoshop and then everything stopped working and the lot froze! only option was to force shutdown (via button).
and try to restart, hoping all was fine, this was not the case :-(
I had the added issue of the RAID card system, that i have, this was confused to say the lease and would not behave or work, causing the start up to hang.
so i thought the HDD must be bust and the root cause. ( but soon learnt it was not the cause )
...bought a new HDD removed the RAID card and replugged the cable from RAID card into LOGIC board, ( making the computer act like any normal non-RAID system). I managed to install the OSX, using the snow leopard disk way. once the mac was running, i started to notice the screen would flicker and started to see 'artefacts'. so i started to reveal my symptoms to the web and forums and soon discovered that my graphics card could be the issue all along?.
    (nvidia geforce 8800gt 2x dvi).
I read up on that a fix, could be either A. reply the thermal paste, as the card could be over heating or B. stick the card in the oven trick.
Tried option A. first and nothing still issues, so last night took the plunge carried out option B. and ta da it worked! i even managed to run
from my new HDD my lasted install OS X, absolutely fine. I then thought, maybe i could repair my RAID so replugged all the HARDWARD back in and
carried out a disk repair and disk permissions on drives( took a small amount of time), via the SNOW LEOPARD disc - (Disk utilities) and this worked and now have my system working as it was just over 6 days ago.
what was the cost to get this?  bought a new hdd so 40.00gbp and thermal paste and cleaner kit ( your still need to do this ) search video card trick on you tube.
and renew thermal paste, approx 15.00gbp, technically i don't need the new HDD, but it was all part of the trial and error way i went. ( i do have extra storage as a result!)"

Hi! I've just purchased an iPhone 5S but whenever I text people with iPhones it sends from my iCloud account. This means that my email comes up for other people not my name/number which is really frustrating! Does anyone know how to stop this?

Go into Settings>Messages>Send and Receive> Is your phone number checked there? If you do not want your email used, then tap on them and remove the checkmark. If there is no checkmark by your phone number, then turn iMessage off, perform a reset on the phone, hold the sleep/wake and home buttons together until you see the Apple logo and then release. The phone will reboot. Turn iMessage on. When it activates, check your settings again under Send and Receive and make sure the number is checked and the emails are not.

  • HT3964 Hardware test error 4SNS/1/40000001:TN1D--1.000. meaning

I have some problems with my Mac Book Pro 7.1,
It freezes after starts up or while functioning and I have to force the shut down.
I run the Hardware test and it reports the following error 4SNS/1/40000001:TN1D--1.000.
Could anyone tell me this kind of error what does it mean?
    Thanks,

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
This error is showing a problem with the logic board controller sensor. The only thing you can do is to take your computer to an Apple Store or reseller to have the computer repaired. Read > http://reviews.cnet.com/8301-13727_7-57352461-263/how-to-invoke-and-interpret-th e-apple-hardware-tests/

  • Test Error 4SNS/1/40000001:VMBS (Corrupt Video)

While my Mac Pro was in an idle state (no active apps processing except for the screensaver), the video became corrupted. It looks like a patchwork quilt of short, colorful horizontal lines and blocks. On reboot, even the Apple splash screen has short horizontal lines running through parts of the screen. The OS is completely unusable, however, I was able to run the diags and came up with this error code:
    4SNS/1/40000001:VMBS
I hadn't made any software updates recently, nor made any other changes to the computer, hardware or software. My instinct is that either my graphics card or motherboard are toasted.
    Any feedback would be appreciated.
    Joe

After going to see the Geniuses, I have no new information. They came to the same conclusion: that it was either the graphics card or the logic board.
Surprisingly, they were not able to narrow it down for me, even with the error code I provided. Their suggestion was that I purchase a new graphics card, try it, and return it if that did not solve the problem. Then bring the system back in for a logic board replacement ($850).
I am hoping that someone on this forum has a better suggestion than that. I'd really like to have more confidence in the problem before I start dumping the cash into it. Thanks!

  • Apple Hardware Test error 4SNS/1/40000001:ID0R-0.000 on Retina MBP

Getting the above error on my 3-day old retina MBP with 16gb RAM and 768GB flash storage.  I had loaded Chrome, Firefox, VMWare Fusion, Office 2011, and all the Apple updates as of 7/3/12.
My issue may be related to similar issues I've seen on these boards, relating to sleep or wakeup causing the intermittent crash.  Machine has also crashed (kernel panic) 2 times.  Genius Bar employee downplayed the AHT altogether, saying it's a false positive since his more advanced tool reported no errors.  They then kept it for a day, to run a "loop test," which also came back with no errors.  Then, because apparently it is easier to re-load the OS rather than actually diagnose the issue, they re-loaded my OS clean. (Yay, now I can re-load all my apps, copy 200GB data back on, and THEN we'll see that it is a hardware problem.)
Tomorrow I'll pick it up from Apple and run the AHT again.  If it errors out again, I'm not sure what to do...

One note I had neglected to mention is that the bar/band immediately above the keyboard gets very, very hot.  Yes, I know that is where the fans are.  However, all 12 of the MBP's at the Apple store did not have this extra-hot band, and those are on all day.  My little Safari & Mail apps should not cause an overheat situation, on a functioning machine.  Apple blamed Google Chrome for the crashes, downplayed the overheating, and downplayed the AHT results.
Update: I went to the Apple store today and took a look at the notebook.  They ran their tests, had re-loaded the OS, and performed an undisclosed hardware repair. (They were helpful but vague as to what the actually did on the machine, hardware-wise.)  They said their advanced tools & extended Loop Test did not indicate any errors or problems.  While still at the store, I ran another quick test with the Apple Hardware Test, which came back with the same 4SNS error as mentioned above.  I asked for a refund, which they approved (except they said I have to come back Monday since I bought the machine from Apple Business.)
When I got home, I ran an extended test with the Apple Hardware Test and got a *diffferent* error this time: 4HDD/11/40000000:SATA(0,0).
It's seems strange to me that the AHT shows 2 different errors, and yet the Genius' "advanced " tools find no errors.  Thankfully, I will return this one (eventually) get a new unit.  Thanks to everyone for helping.  --Peter

  • Harware test - error 4sns/1/40000001:YDOR

I've got an iMac later 2006 (white model). I have experienced some crashes while imac stopping. I launched the harware test and the result was the error code in the subject. Anybody knows what does it mean?

Wonderful! Post back if you need further assistance.
And if you see any dialog of any kind whether running a test or not, make sure and write it down so we can get an idea of what's going on. Also, there might be a crash log available.
    Here's how to find that.
How to locate a crash log:
    1. Open Finder.
    2. Click "Go" in the menu, then select "Go to Folder".
    3. Copy and paste this path into the Finder dialog:
~/Library/Logs/CrashReporter/
    4. Click the Go button.
    5. Finder opens the folder containing the crash log. Look for a the crash file with a date field that looks like the most recent.
You really need to boot from your install disk when the system experience crashes, not the AHT.
    Here's how to do that.
Insert Installer disk and Restart, holding down the "C" key until grey Apple appears.
Go to Installer menu (Panther and earlier) or Utilities menu (Tiger and later) and launch Disk Utility.
Select your HDD (manufacturer ID) in the left panel.
Select First Aid in the Main panel.
(Check S.M.A.R.T Status of HDD at the bottom of right panel. It should say: Verified)
Click Repair Disk on the bottom right.
If DU reports disk does not need repairs quit DU and restart.
If DU reports errors Repair again and again until DU reports disk is repaired.
Also, check to see how much available disk space there is. Right or control click the MacintoshHD icon on your Desktop, then click: Get Info. In the Get Info window, click the discovery triangle so it's facing down. You will see; Capacity and Available Make sure you have 10% available disk space, 15% is better. Not enough available drive space can cause issues like you are experiencing.
