Mac Tiger distribution upgrade to Mac Tiger Server

Hopefully this is a quick question. Is the upgrade from the basic distribution of Mac OSX Tiger to Mac OSX Tiger Server a destructive one? In other words, will I lose all of my current information if I load Server on top of the current OS or is there a simple upgrade path?
Thanks!

The ports are correct. The default is 25 and that is what the mac is using.
I guess I should have added this before - The outgoing works, but the incoming is the part that errors.

  • 10.4 Tiger Unlimited - Upgrade to - Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard 10-Client License

Can I just upgrade my current 10.4 Tiger Server Unlimited to Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard Server 10-Client License?
I have many email lists, and websites on m current server, but I only have six clients that are named.
What would I have to watch out for?
The only modifications were to change SpamAssasin so that the settings could be easily upgraded.
Is there something that could return my 10.4 server to it's standard state, and then, just upgrade?
Could I just reinstall 10.4, then upgrade all the 10.4 steps to 10.4.10, then upgrade to 10.5?

+There are two aspects here. Technical and License. If you have only 6 concurrent file sharing users, then the 10-client license will work fine.+
I have only six concurrent users. I was just concerned about upgrading from one to the other.
+Not knowing what modifications you may have made it is hard to tell. Personally I prefer to setup servers from scratch between major version changes.+
I am sorry. The only modification was to shift from ClamAV to FreshClam.
+What services are you running on your server?+
    The services I have running are;
    AFP
    Mail

  • I lost my ability to use Microsoft Offic for Mac, when I upgraded my MAC from Snow Leopard to Mountain Lion! HELP!

    HELP !
After I upgraded my operating system on my mac, (from  Snow Leopard (10.6 ? ) to Mountain Lion (10.8.2), virtually ALL of my documents (recipes, update logs, information of untold things), have been denied to me with my Microsoft Word for Mac (which I have used since I purchased my mac in Aug.2008).
I now get a window that tells me "You can't open the application "Microsoft Word" because PowerPC applications are no longer supported." (Needless to say, I cannot use Excel or anything else, either!)
Yet, I can still access them, fully (read and even print fro them), individually, by dragging a file into my PREVIEW program!
          What gives?
I am not a savvy programmer, nor do I confess to somehow being warned that this might happen when I upgraded my operating system.
Is there any reasonable (easier?) way to continue the use of these (to me) very important files? I only upgraded because I upgraded my iPhone to a 4S and wanted everything to conform to  siimilar circumstances!
         What can I DO?

You need to upgrade your copy of MS Office. You're using a version that is 8 years old (at least). You can buy Office 2011, which will work. You could also get a copy of Pages from the App Store, which is cheaper and will open Word files (though not perfectly). Or you could get a free Office clone, like OpenOffice or LibreOffice.

What matters is the version of iPhoto you have on the different machines. Can you tell us what they are, and what exact error message you get.

  • Upgrade from Mac OS X 10.1.6 to Tiger 10.4

I'm looking to upgrade my iMac's (G4 700Mhz with 1GB SDRAM) old OS X 10.1.6 (first OS X edition) to the Tiger 10.4. Now I've seen an upgrade disc for sale on eBay and wondered if this would do the trick? Or do I need to upgrade to Panther and then Tiger? Any help is much appreciated.
    TIA.

Gray color installers are machine specific & won't work on you iMac. They were provided by Apple during the tramnsition from Panther to Tiger.
You can upgrade directly to Tiger 10.4 if your iMac meets the Tiger requirements.
Tiger install DVDs are in short supply. Tiger is no longer available from Apple. For other sources, do a Google search for MA453Z/A (10.4.6), MA190Z/A (10.4.3) and M9639Z/A (10.4) . Also look on eBay. Be sure & buy a retail version (black with silver X) and not a model specific version (gray). Expect to pay (possibly a lot) more than the Apple list price of $129.
Also check this web store http://www.lacomputercompany.com/cgi-bin/rpcart/index.cgi?command=dispitem&type= sku&sku=19521
Possible Alternative if you are currently using Panther 10.3 – Do a Google search for Tiger 10.4 Upgrade DVD . It will upgrade your 10.3 to 10.4, but it doesn’t contain the full retail Tiger installer. Should be cheaper than the retail Tiger install DVD.
After you install the base 10.4.x, update to the final Tiger version 10.4.11. Here's the link for the 10.4.11 combo update http://support.apple.com/kb/TA24901?viewlocale=en_US

You can also download the Tiger Installation and Setup Guide

When you upgrade the OS, do it via Archive & Install. See About the Archive and Install feature http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1710
Be sure to select Preserve Users & Settings. Also, repair permissions before and after the install.

  • AI have an iPad and iPhone but am stuck with Tiger and Leopard. Will I stir be able to get my email on my PowerBook if I after I upgrade to iCloud?  I don't have the cash to upgrade the mac right now.

I have an iPad and iPhone but am stuck with Tiger and Leopard on my old powerbook G4.  Will I still be able to get my email on my PowerBook after I upgrade to iCloud?  I don't have the cash to upgrade the mac right now.  Just wondering what my email options are.  Thank You.

You will be able to get your mail on the PowerBook. The calendars (iCal) will not sync; any events added to iPad and/or iPhone will not sync with the Mac but will sync with each other (that is: the mobile devices which are on iCloud). My  MacBook Pro (Lion) and iPad2 (iOS5) sync fine; I still get my Mail on iBook G4, MacBook Pro (Snow Leopard) and iMac (Snow Leopard).

  • Do I have to upgrade to Tiger if I want Mac os x 10.4. versions?

I have a powerbook G4 mac os x v. 10.3.9 and I want to upgrade to 10.4 so that I can install new software I bought and I do not see the download for it. I am wondering if I have to upgrade to tiger to get to that version.

    Hi vithloca!
    Here is some additional info.
Mac OS X Versions 10.1, 10.2, 10.3, and 10.4, are complete system upgrades that must be purchased.
The point upgrades, such as 10.1.x to 10.1.5 (Final) 10.2.x to 10.2.8 (Final), 10.3.x to 10.3.9 (Final), and 10.4.x to 10.4.8 (Pending), can be downloaded for free.
Tiger is available for purchase at The Apple Store (U.S.).
As Ferd II posted, the Full Retail Version, of the Tiger Install DVD, can also be purchased rather inexpensively, at some online Apple retailers, Amazon, eBay, AppleRescue, FastMac, etc.
Be sure not to purchase grey, upgrade or machine specific CDs or DVDs.

Once Tiger 10.4.x is installed, you can use the PPC 10.4.8 Combo Update, to upgrade to the most recent version.

  • Leopard Mac cannot see hard drives on Tiger Macs

Running Leopard 10.5.2 on a Mac Pro 3GHz 4-core w/6GB RAM. I cannot connect to any hard drive / root directory on any Mac on my network running Tiger (10.4.9, .10 or .11) or Panther or OS9. I have 4 Macs on the network but only one running Leopard.
The Mac running LeopardI can connect to the User folder on any Mac running Tiger but cannot see any hard drives' root directory on any Mac running Tiger . No hard drive can be accessed from a User folder even if an alias of the Tiger drive is placed in the ~/User/Public folder.
The reverse works as usual. Any Mac running Tiger can see any hard drive on any networked Mac including Macs running Leopard.
Has anyone else encountered this issue &/or found a workaround? After 2 hours with Apple Tech Support including a system specialist, they confirmed this behavior in Leopard Macs networked to Tiger OS Macs. (Hard drives can be seen between all Macs running Leopard) It was theorized by one of the Apple techs that the behavior was engineered to encourage upgrading all Macs to Leopard. BAD idea! I requested this be reported to Apple engineering.
    Any ideas?
    TIA!

Download and read the documentation for Carbon Copy Cloner which is handy and what a lot of us have used over the years to clone, migrate and backup or manage drives and storage.
I think 500GB is overkill for boot drive as most of your apps and OS only need less than 150GB, and all of your data and media and home folders can be anywhere you want and not on the boot drive. Also, Apple way over charges for 2TB drives and no reason or value to do so. That is history now but fwiw.
You could I guess setup one 2TB as boot drive easy enough. Then migrate etc. Make that a backup of everything. Then manually or with CCC or other you can clone just what you want to SSD and to the other 2TB drive.
Apps should always go to the boot drive, the SSD in this case, and not to other locations. No benefit putting them elsewhere.
When you migrate are your files on TimeMachine or just standard files and folders? and can't selectively copy? Honestly never found need to use M.A. more than once probably.

    Hello John
Like tjk said....replacing a logic board could be expensive.....according to a wikipedia article "Laptop computers generally use highly integrated, miniaturized, and customized motherboards(which is a logic board). This is one of the reasons that laptop computers are difficult to upgrade and expensive to repair. Often the failure of one laptop component requires the replacement of the entire motherboard, which is usually more expensive than a desktop motherboard due to the large number of integrated components.
but try this website : www.powerbookmedic.com there you could find a logic board for $ 300.00.
Good luck to you with your computer,

  • Is OS X 10.4 Tiger Full install CD Mac New X code the right thing for me?

Please Help - I have been having problems on some websites and with Safari - I can't afford to buy a new or even a 'new' used Mac with Intel - I have been thinking that upgrading to Tiger will solve my problems, I have committed to buy (on Ebay) but not yet paid for OS X 10.4 and am now worried that I am buying the wrong thing.
The description of what I am buying is Apple eMac OSX 10.4 Tiger Full install CD Mac New XCODE
Rare genuine factory Mac operating system, full installation CD set for Apple OS 10.4 Tiger. Normally Tiger OS 10.4 comes in single DVD format which most older eMacs don't have, so this OSX 10.4 is a rare item in CD format. 16 install CD's plus an XCODE Development tools version 2 on 17 discs.
    My eMac specifications are:
    Machine Model: eMac
    CPU Type: PowerPC G4 (1.1)
    Number Of CPUs: 1
    CPU Speed: 1.25 GHz
L2 Cache (per CPU): 512 KB
    Memory: 768 MB
    Bus Speed: 167 MHz
    Boot ROM Version: 4.8.2f1
Can anyone please help a damsel (albeit not a very young one) in distress?

No, its only 10 pm at the moment.
OK, that's good news as it is the latter type eMac, though not identical to the latest, it falls into the 'second half' of the eMac series.
The only difference I can see is that your model has a slightly slower graphics card but is the same model card. It seems only a subtle difference.
I believe there is a high probability that those disks would work.
Given they are considerably cheaper £27 or less it is probably worth risking. I'll guess 85% + chance of success.
The retail Tiger disks are just black, but they are quite rare, and overpriced.
    Here is a comparison at
    http://fastmac.com/osx.php
where they want over £50 (US79.95) so the ebay thing looks good.
You could change web browsers to Opera or Camino but Java versions end at 1.4 in Panther.
10.3 is pretty ancient in internet years, so an OS upgrade will at least keep you with a useful tool, even if not at the cutting edge.
    10.20pm see you tomorrow.

  • HT201257 mac os x 10.4.11 tiger: apple hardware test has detected an error (what does this mean): 4SNS/1/40000001:VDOR

Can someone help?  I did an apple hardware test and it has detected an error:  4SNS/1/40000001:VDOR
What does that mean? Can i correct it myself? how?
my computer is  "tiger" mac os x 10.4.11, Processor: 2.16 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo,  Memory: 2.5 Go 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM

Thank's for answering, realy appreciate your time,
A technician had installed last year "mac os x snow leopard 10.6" (family pack) at around $49.00 - I had originaly mac os x 10.4.11 (tiger).  He had changed my hard drive, added memory: 2.5 Go 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM, processor is: 2.16 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo  (he told me he had to change my hard drive probably due to a power shortage. Before he did the changes, I had done a hardware test: it gave me the same error as today 4SNS/1/40000001:DVOR,  He cleaned the inside, but he did not change any sensors. What am i to do???
Not too long ago i started having problems. (probably from a power shortage, at one point.  I don't know if my external back up got corrupt. so i don't want to use it. He had eraced tiger 10.4.11 and installed snow leopard 10.6.
I eraced snow leopard and installed mac os x 10.4.11 (that came with my computer).
I wanted to install mac os x 10.6 (snow Leopard) without eracing tiger (chat sites say you can do that) but it said it couldn't use my hard disk because of my memory:  my info says: used: 18,78 Go on the disk, available: 446.66 Go, Capacity: 465,44 Go
So that's when i did a hardware test with the CD1 of mac os x 10.4 (tiger) and that where i got the message.
If i have a sensor problem, then i guess i'm waisting my time trying to reinstall mac os x 10.6 (snow Leopard) or am i doing it wrong.  I was told i could leave tiger there and upgrade directly to snow leopard, without installing mac os x 10.5 (leopard).
    Thank again

  • Running Tiger on older (G3) Macs

I am looking for comments/experiences with running OS 10.4 on G3 iMacs. We have more than the stated minimum of RAM (256)and I would like to have the whole school running the same os if possible. Will there be any noticeable problems (freezing, slowness, etc.) on G3 iMacs?
    Thanks!

256 MB of RAM is not enough RAM to run Tiger, despite it being called the minimum. I'd start with no less than 512 MB of RAM.
Also if your Mac does not have built-in Firewire Tiger is not supported on those Macs, though third party methods exist to circumvent that issue with XPostFacto from http://www.macsales.com/
If your Mac has no DVD drive, you can get the Media Exchange Program which comes on CDs to install Tiger.

  • Photoshop CS6 can't save to server after upgrading to Mac OS Yosemite Server from Mac Lion Server

We recently upgraded our server from a Mac Pro 2008 with OS X Lion Server to a Mac Mini 2014 with LaCie 20TB 5Big Thunderbolt 2 RAID drive. Everything is working fine with the exception of Photoshop. It does it intermittently but once it happens it will continue to do so. We get message like "Can't save to disk because of disk error" and "Can't save file because of program error" . Sometime we are able to do a "save as" and save over it. Most of the time we have to "save as" with a different file name and then rename and recopy the file. We have check permission on all the file as well as the server HD has ignore ownership checked. Again only three things changed. 1) Sever hardware change from Mac Pro to Mac Mini. 2) Server software upgraded from 10.7 Lion to 10.10 Yosemite(both have the latest update). 3) Drive when from internal on Mac Pro to External Thunderbolt 2 LaCie drive. We have no problem with Illustrator or Indesign. Only Photoshop. Anyone with any suggestion is greatly appreciated.

Unfortunately you seem to be using Photoshop in a way that Adobe discourages, so you may not be getting a lot of helpful advice.
