Mac Tiger

Hello! I am a bit confused and need your help. I presently have an iMac with system 10.2.8 and Adobe Photoshop Elements 2.0. I wish to buy a new iMac with Tiger (10.4) and have been told that my Elements 2.0 will not work. Will Elements 3.0 work with 10.4?
Al in Sedona

PSE 2.0 was always buggy for updates, but the fix is simple. Temporarily disconnect your computer from the internet, launch Elements, and then go to Elements>Preferences>Adobe Online. Set the frequency at which it checks for updates to Never. Reconnect, and you're good to go. The bad news is that you've never gotten so much as one update. :(
I'm not upgrading Elements again until it's uni-bin, so I'm still using both PSE 2.0 and 3.0. PSE 2.0 is still my favorite. Sure it lacks some new bells and whistles, but (aside from its update bug) it's still a nice program. Don't be in a hurry to update just because there's something newer, unless you desperately need a feature the newest version has, which is doubtful.

• ICal doesn't install correctly when reinstalling Mac Tiger OS X

I have been trying to help my dad with his Mac. This weekend we went ahead and wiped out the hard drive and reinstalled Mac Tiger OS X. When it came to installing Disk 2 (he doesn't have a DVD) it said error installing iCal, and we had to restart and install Disk 2 again. This happened about 7 times and we gave up. In the Log Viewer Mac say the iCal files are too big, and the second line mentions that some iCal file are written incorrectly.
I was wondering if we can start all over again and begin with Disk 1 or skip installing iCal.
Can someone help us please?!?
Thanks!
Bernie

If the computer isn't connected to the Internet, download the Pacifist dmg file on another machine and then transport it to the computer where you are trying to install iCal to. If you download it on a PC, don't attempt to open the downloaded file on the PC.

• Mac tiger to Mac lion

Is there another way how you can connect mac tiger with mac lion with migrationassistent? Mac tiger doesn't support the knew intel processors. Is there a way to let this work?
I can connect the two laptops in a network, that's no problem, but can you copy your i-tunes library with this connection?I hope that someone have a solution for this
Macbook air 2011 is a fantastic machine, very quick, light, .....
thx!

Don't use Migration Assistant unless you need to migrate the entire Home folder. Actually, if you have an older Intel Mac that came with Tiger, then that version of Tiger is an Intel version.
You need to turn on File Sharing on your older computer so the new one can log into your admin account on the old computer and transfer files across the network.

• June 10 2012 Firefox automatically updated itself (no choice) on my Intel Mac/Tiger 10.4.11. Can no longer use Firefox, so how do I get back the old one?

June 10 2012 Firefox automatically updated itself (no choice) on my Intel Mac/Tiger 10.4.11. I can no longer use Firefox. I have an old version of Firefox on my Mac G4, but am scared to use that machine in case that Firefox also automatically updates itself. How can I transfer a copy of that older version of Firefox (from the G4) to the Intel Mac, and how do I stop both versions from then automatically updating? How do I then remove the updated version of Firefox from the Intel Mac, which I cannot use? Thank you for your help.

esqki FF update to 13 and now you can't open ? sorry about that.
1. Download (with your safari) a copy of the latest (3.6.28) from your 10.4.11 mac
from
ftp://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/releases/3.6.28/mac/
2. '''Trash''' the current Firefox application to do a clean install.
3. Install the version that you have downloaded (3.6.28).
Do not select to remove your personal data, your profile data is stored elsewhere in the [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Firefox Firefox Profile Folder], so you won't lose your bookmarks or other personal data.
see also: [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/install-firefox-mac?redirectlocale=en-US&redirectslug=Installing+Firefox+on+Mac Installing Firefox on Mac]
after install the 3.6.28 version go to: Options > Advanced > Update tab > Firefox updates, check mark '''Never check for updates (not recommended: security risk)''', click Ok to save it, exit firefox and restart it.

• I have Mac Tiger 10.4.11 i cant upgrade itunes

i have Mac Tiger 10.4.11 i cant upgrade itunes Please help me wat i have to do

To sync with an iPhone you need to be using an Intel Mac running Snow Leopard 10.6.8 or higher.
Start by checking if your Mac can run Snow Leopard:
Requirements for OS X 10.6 'Snow Leopard'
http://support.apple.com/kb/SP575
The OS 10.6 Snow Leopard install DVD is available for $19.99 from the Apple Store:
http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard
and in the UK:
http://store.apple.com/uk/product/MC573/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard
When you have installed it, run Software Update to download and install the latest updates for Snow Leopard to bring it up to 10.6.8, or download the combo update from here:
http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1399
Check via Software Update whether further updates are required.

You can't update to Firefox 6 on OS X 10.4
*Firefox 4 and later require at least OS X 10.5 and an Intel Mac.
* http://www.mozilla.com/firefox/6.0/system-requirements/
Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of the extensions is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).
*Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.

• MAC Tiger vs. Any "Street Atlas" Software

I'll post here, because I'm at a logical dead-endand need help.
Is there any useable "Street Atlas like" application for the MAC Tiger besides the insufferable "Route 66" product?
DeLorme walked away from the MAC and the virtual PC and Street Atlas solution seems too slow.
(I can't believe there's not a MAC solution that works....)
thanks.

I'm a professional Cartographer and can say even Street Atlas isn't that hot. The problem is relying on ancient Census data you have lots of maps showing roads that don't exist anymore, or are not in their actual locations. Granted it may have improved some, but still the best source would be a map you could edit yourself when you get more accurate information. For that there are Mac Geographic Information System packages like Canvas GIS, MacGIS, Grass GIS, LandSerf, and Macmap (of no relationship to my website Macmaps). You can look up Geographic Information Systems on http://guide.apple.com/ for more details.

• Latest Firefox update compatible with Mac Tiger OSX 10.4.11

Firefox notifies me that I'm not running the latest version (I have 3.6.24 GTB7.1) and to download the version compatible with my older system (Mac Tiger 10.4.11). I click on that link and can find nothing that states what systems the version(s) there are compatible with. I have in the past downloaded and installed an incompatible version, a situation to avoid for obvious reasons.

Thanks for the fast responses, I am particularly happy to have found the floodgap.com website. Didn't think that I was the only one muttering about the abandonment of two decades of pre-Intel software and tech files that my work depends on, and am glad to see some action in that direction. Surely a cottage industry will spring up to keep hardware available. I love what Apple has brought us but not their ability to turn their back on what brought them up, and millions of users in the process.

• Accessing a friends Mac (Tiger) from my iMac

I would like to know if it is possible to access a friends iMac (Tiger 10.4 ?) from mine (10.5.6) *via the internet*. She is having some problems which I usually resolve over the phone but I believe it would be better if I could operate her computer from mine and take her through the steps to solve her problems plus show her some things that she is missing. Would appreciate it if some one could answer this question for me. Thanks.

If you both use MobileMe it's trivial. Just use Back to my Mac.
If not, then you need to understand how to configure your routers and firewalls to allow a direct internet connection. You need to open ports on the firewall and router on both ends and use one of the options in the Sharing PrefPane. As Kappy notes, this may not work well if one machine is running Tiger, but it should be possible.
You can also search the net for other options and software. Use the search term "vnc"
One that comes to mind is "Chicken of the VNC"

• Mac Tiger distribution upgrade to Mac Tiger Server

Hopefully this is a quick question. Is the upgrade from the basic distribution of Mac OSX Tiger to Mac OSX Tiger Server a destructive one? In other words, will I lose all of my current information if I load Server on top of the current OS or is there a simple upgrade path?
Thanks!

The ports are correct. The default is 25 and that is what the mac is using.
I guess I should have added this before - The outgoing works, but the incoming is the part that errors.

• HT1338 i have a macbook with mac tiger 10.4.11 , i need microsoft office, how do i get it?

i have a macbook with the 10.4.11 tiger os ...i am in need for microsoft office for mac and do notknow how to download or install or from where to..plz help !

Find and purchase Office 2004 or 2008; places such as Amazon or eBay may sell these. Note that if you later upgrade the computer's OS to Lion (assuming your Mac is compatible with it), you won't be able to run the Office 2004 applications.

• Need older update: for mac tiger 10.4.11 (have 3.030

I have an older MAC laptop: can not afford a new one. I am running Tiger 10.4.11. My firefox is 3.0.10 which will not work anymore. The updates are too advanced. Where can I get a download of firefox for MY OLD computer that will work?
Thanks

Thank you for your suggestion. I got many windows that tell me this:
1. Firefox 3.6.25dmg is on a FTP server that may not allow applications to run or they will run very slowly.
2. Server connect interrupted, ftp.mozilla.org-2
3. following disk image failed to mount. Reason: not recognized.
Boy, I must be a geek, I can not even do this right.
Any other suggestions?
Thanks for your time!

• HT1338 I have a Mac Tiger version and I would like to upgrade my Operating System.

Can this be done by downloading it directly or do I have to bring in my computer to an apple store?

Your computer profile information is confusing. You say you are running Tiger yet your profile says your computer is running Lion which is three versions beyond Tiger. Which version are you running?
Get more information about your computer. Go to the Apple in the upper left corner of any window then "About This Mac", and tell us what it says for "version". Now continues to "More Info..." Copy and paste the information here, but omit the serial number and Hardware UUID (if present).
You can do any system upgrade yourself. The ease with which is can be done is more a matter of which version your really need. If you are indeed running Lion then upgrading to Mountain Lion can be done online for $20. If you are indeed running Tiger and are running an older computer that can only go to Leopard then you will have to do a lot of hunting for a copy of Leopard and be prepared to spend a lot of money buying it (maybe $100+?)

• G5 mac tiger to snow leopard?

I have a G5 and I want to upgrade it from tiger to snow leopard, is ther a particular disk I need or can i buy any, plus do apple still sell them?
also when up grading from 1gb to 2gb what memory can i buy?

Then you should be good to go! (Except that you need to increase your RAM considerably, preferably to 4GB+ )
Requirements for OS X 10.6 'Snow Leopard'
http://support.apple.com/kb/SP575
Whilst Apple have withdrawn Snow Leopard from their stores, you can still get it from Apple by calling 1-800-MY-APPLE (if you are in the USA) and they will supply the SL DVD for $20 for a single user, or $30 for a family pack that covers up to 5 Macs. You can also purchase the code to use to download Lion from the same number (Lion requires an Intel-based Mac with a Core 2 Duo, i3, i5, i7 or Xeon processor and 2GB of RAM, running the latest version of Snow Leopard), or you can purchase Mountain Lion from the App Store - if you can run that:
http://www.apple.com/osx/specs/
If you are outside the US call your national Apple Helpline:
http://support.apple.com/kb/HE57
If you're in the UK, use this number: 0871 508 4400
When you have installed it, run Software Update to download and install the latest updates for Snow Leopard.

• Cannot sync with my Mac Tiger

Just got Palm Desktop 4.2.1 installed on my Tiger laptop.
I have a PalmV I had used during my PC days.
The cradle used to connect with the PC using a serial cable.
So I bought a "RS232 SERIAL to USB converter cable",
connected the female serial to the cradle's serial, and
connect to my Mac via the USB end.
But the Sync just won't happen; It "Can't find the connection..."
The username is the same on the handheld and on the desktop software.
Much obliged for any help I can get.

I am trying to figure out a related problem but one of the issues is that not all serial to usb adapters seem to work with mac. The one which is generally recommended is the keyspan usa19hs.
