Mac to Camera connection problems

I am a professional photographer and having an ongoing problem connecting my Canon EOS-IDS MKII camera to my MacPro (2x3Ghz Dual-Core Intel Xeon) running MacOS 10.5.5 for tethered shooting. I am using EOS Utility 2.4.0.3. I launch EOS Utility and then turn on the camera which is connected via a Granite Digital firewire cable (with LED) so I can tell that the connection is good. I then get an error message that EOS Utility 'Faiied to connect with camera. Check connections'
So far these the things I have done to troubleshoot the problem:
1) downloaded and installed the latest version of EOS Utility
2) tried each firewire port on my mac and the one on my 30" cinema display
3) tried three different firewire cables including a brand new Granite Digital cable
4) taken the camera to the local Canon service center, where they tested the firewire port on the camera and replaced the 'PCB interface' and '1394 connector'
Despite all of this the problem persists... Not sure if this is the best place to post this problem...or even if the issue is Mac-related, but any help on finding a solution would be much appreciated.

cool... I should add that I've been shooting tethered with this particular camera for over a year...without any problems... probably 2 or 3 sessions a week on average...with all the predicable strains on cables/plugs/ports. The connection issue only started to pop up (initially every now and then and then gradually with more frequency) a month or so ago... so on the whole I'd say set up has given me very good reliability/value for money. An extended warranty is definitely worth considering given that inevitably the physical strains on the camera/cable link will take their toll.... depending what you do with it of course...
good luck

  • FLIR A2600SC IR camera connection problems with NI-Vision - error code 0xBFF69011

Hi, hopefully someone can help me out with a connection problem I’m having with a FLIR A2600SC IR camera:
The camera is detected by NI-IMAQdx in MAX but when clicking on the camera (to browse) it just comes back with error code 0xBFF69011 “Unable to get attribute”. Reading through the Forums, there is a file: “SC2600_1_0_0_8FC7DBB4.xml” which tells MAX what attributes to ask for but the files has quite a few lines and trying to figure out which line is causing the problem seems to be a daunting task.
I used the Camera Validator Utility that ships with NI-IMAQdx and it detects the camera just fine but it also comes back with an error: 0xBFF69012 “Attribute value is out of range”. These two errors lead me to believe that I need an updated (xml) file for this camera. Any ideas of where I might get it?
All FLIR drivers and software packages are installed and their software works just fine with no issues.  LabVIEW and NI-Vision software are updated to the latest available and are running on a Win7 (x64) machine.
Any help or comments will be appreciated!

    Kozby,
The "PacketSize" value is located in the "devicename.xml" file that MAX loads up when initializing the device. Search in "c:\Program Files\National Instruments\MAX\Assistants\"USB device name"; normally it has the same name as displayed in the device tree under MAX. Use an xml editor or NotePad++ when changing values in the file; XML syntax applies.
When MAX detected your USB device and loaded it, it created a folder for the device in its directory, and saved all the necessary files needed to access said device. So, look at all the xml files in that folder and one of them will have the parameters.
The way I figured out which parameter was causing the issue, was by comenting out the configuration parameter that I tought most likely to be the culprit and running the device to see if the problem went away. Once I pinpointed the offending parameter then continued by changing its value until I got the device to work properly. For me the "PacketSize" was the culprit because it was set to a size not allowed by the IR camera. MAX was expecting/requesting a packet size (video grab) bigger than what the camera could grab/send and MAX or the IR camera was erroring out. Also, look at the documentation for your device and find the packet size it send during TCP/IP communications (for my IR camera it was 1408).
Make sure to use xml syntax. To comment out a line in an xml file use "<!--  "parameter data"  -->" where "parameter data" is the line you are commenting out.
    Best regards,
    Opus20

  • Camera connection problem

I have a Canon EOS 40D which always used to open Image Capture when connected so I could import images.
This is not happening any more though preferences are still set for it to do so.
In system profiler the USB tree shows the camera though this is the only place on the Mac it does appear.
The camera is on, the USB plug works and the cable is sound.
Be grateful for any help.  Am running Mountain Lion.

Try these and you could also make another user account and see if the problem persists in that account.
    SMC RESET
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964
    Shut down the computer.
Unplug the computer's power cord and ALL peripherals.
    Wait 15 seconds.
    Attach the computers power cable.
Wait another 5 seconds and press the power button to turn on the computer.
The 5 second timing is important to a successful reset.
    PRAM RESET
    Zap the PRAM
    Shut down the computer.
Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command, Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
    Turn on the computer.
Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears.
Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
    Release the keys.

  • Digital Camera Connection Problems With Leopard

    Hi Everyone,
I'm having a big problem with connecting various digital cameras to my macs. I have 3 different machines (a G5 iMac, 2 MacBook Pros) all running 10.5.1 or 10.5.2 and none of them will recognize my canon Powershot SD800 or my SD1000. I haven't had a chance to test it out with my Digital Rebel yet but I'm suspecting I may run into the same issue.
I've read through all the tech notes in the iLife section and various articles on the web and from what I can tell Apple has a problem with usb device connections in Leopard. I've tried all of the fixes (deleting caches folder, resetting PRAM, updating all applications, etc) and nothing works. The cameras were working fine under 10.4.11. I was really hoping Apple would have fixed this in 10.5.2 but it is still not working. Does anyone have any ideas if Apple is working on this? For photographers like myself this is a major deal. I can get around the issue right now using an external memory card reader, but that's extremely inconvenient at times and I'm just not impressed that something like this has gone months without a fix from Apple.

And I'm not having any problems with Leopard mounting my Canon PowerShot Pro or Rebel though I typically don't connect them, choosing to use a card reader instead. (Saves camera battery.) This is true on the 4 computers I use at home and work as well as my wife's MacBook. Two came with Leopard pre-installed the other 3 I installed Leopard using Archive & install.
We can talk about how you upgraded to Leopard or what you have installed that might be getting in the way, or you can buy an inexpensive card reader and be done with the hassle.

  • CAMERA CONNECTING PROBLEMS

I am trying to connect my Olympus E-5 to my IMac running Mavericks.  The combination used to work fine in the past, that is until I was trying to transfer some pictures last night.  The camera suddenly disconnected itself from the computer.  I tried to reconnect, but this time the data transfer was very slow.  When I tried to reconnect the camera again it froze although the camera data transfer light kept flashing as if it was transferring data.  However it wasn't because the camera wasn't recognised in Finder.  I had this problem last night and couldn't resolve it and so went to bed.  When I tried again this morning the whole system worked perfectly well and I thought it was all back to normal. However, as I tried to continue the work the problem identified last night reoccured.  Has anyone had any similar snags?

I have had a Windows PC for years, but came over to Apple because I heard great things about the system.  Not so sure now.
Macs are superior over a PC except when it comes to gaming (I am also a PC user).  Once you get your E-5 situation figured out, Macs will win back your trust.
It just might come down to the fact that you need a powered hub which works best w/Macs.  Or the E-5 is not compatible w/Maverick *yet.*   It takes time for 3rd party hardware & software to catch up when Macs come out w/a new OS.
Let us know what Olympus says.

  • Mac mini, bluetooth connection problems

Hi, My mac mini (latest model) has recently got problems with the bluetooth connections to the keyboard and the mouse.
It seems to be some kind of interference to the wireless signal that makes the KB/Mouse to lose connection, and then
    connect again.
I assume that it was one recent update that caused this as it worked without any problems for months before it
    started by itself.
    Any tips?

  • Pple 24" LED and Mac Pro usb connection problem

    Hi,
I'm having issues with my Mac Pro 8 core (2008) connected to an Apple 24" LED. I have a Radeon HD 4870 graphics card installed in the Mac so I can use the Apple LED  mini displayport connection. The video works perfectly fine but to use the built-in speakers and iSight in the Apple LED I have to use the USB cables and connect them to the USB sockets of the Mac Pro. This is where the problem seems to be as after a time using the Mac it crashes in a strange manner and I get a few lines of coding and the Mac shuts down on its own. I've used Dr Botts extension cables to extend to reach of the USB cables which I thought maybe the issues and taken this off and I've also unplugged any devices plugged into the extra USB sockets on the Apple LED. I think it's something to do with using the speakers as playing video seems to crash the Mac also but once I unplug the USB cables the video plays fine, but without speaker sound. Has anyone had similar problems and have any solutions?
    Thanks in advance.
    Alec

I have had no problem at all.
    Assume  you have considered: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2400
If you have concerns about possible extension cable reliablity, you might want to consider trying a spare such as this one that is available from the Store: http://store.apple.com/us/product/H6730LL/A/

  • Basler camera connection problems

    Hi there,
I'm just wondering if anyone might be able to help. I've been talking to tech support in UK as well about this problem but they are struggling a bit with a solution, so I said I'd try here in case anyone has had a similar experience. Basically I recently bought a Basler IP BIP2 camera and I am trying to connect it to the Link 2 of my 9024 cRIO.
I have set the (static) IP address of my camera to 169.254.82.108 and the cRIO link 2 as 169.254.82.103 (this is on a different subnet to the Link 1 IP). When I turn on the system first or reset the IP addresses, I can see the camera in MAX for a few seconds before it disappears. Then if I restart the cRIO a VISA error comes up (see attached). Last week I could not even update the IMAQ software on my cRIO because of conflicts so I did a total uninstall and reinstall of NI softwrae on my system, installing all the updated software from the Spring 2014 release. I was then able to install all the new software on my cRIO ok. NI has suggested I do repairs to software, disable firewall, Uninstall and reinstall the VISA software but nothing has worked or changed it at all unfortunately. I have also tried different settings with my Basler camera, using Static IP addresses and manually setting host and server names and following any of the instructions I could find online for setting the camera up with cRIO.
I have tried everything again and again and I am just wondering if anyone has been in the same place before and tried something else?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Kindest Regards,
    Kelly

    Hi,
First, you need to make sure the USB camera is DirectShow compatible.  If it isn't it will not work with our vision software. You need to use the IMAQdx drivers (which requires a license) to acquire from a USB web cam.  Once you have the IMAQdx drivers (Vision Acquisition Software) installed and the drivers that come with the camera installed you should be able to see it in Measurement & Automation Explorer (MAX).  Once you can see it in MAX you can use it just like any other camera in LabVIEW.

  • Mac Wireless Mouse Connection Problem

My Mac wireless mouse and my MacBook Pro works very well. The problem is that every time I start my computer, I must always pair and connect through system preferences. It rarely automatically connects. Is this normal?

    Hello waben:
Probably not. However, try clicking the mouse several times. That usually causes mine to "find" the Mac.

  • Mac to TV connection Problems

I would like to connect my mac to my televison so i can play videos. I have the mini display to HDMI converter and I also have the HDMI chord. after I plug the chord into the televison my computer screen flashes white then goes back to normal function while my tv simply stays black and does not respond. I double and tripple checked that the tv was on the right imput I even tried all of the HDMI ports. Does anyone know what is wrong?

Within the Displays preference pane in System Preferences is a choice whther to extend your desktop, or mirror your desktop. Apparently, the current selection is to "extend the desktop".
Set the preference to "mirror the desktop", so that your internal display shows the same image as your external display.

  • PSE 9 PC to MAC transfer catalog connection problem

I am transferring PSE 9 from PC to MAC and each time end up with all the photos disconnected.  I'd appreciate any tips on PC to MAC catalog placement.

    Barbara,
    Thanks for replying.
What you described is what I think I've done.  I've been following what may be your paper "Moving a Catalog from Windows to Mac" dated 10/7/10.  I suspect my problem revolves around areas in which I need a little more guidance.  These are 1) when restoring the "New Location" I don't understand the criteria that defines the location and 2) I'm confused by the suggestion to create a new folder for the restore.  My chosen location was somewhat arbitrary and I didn't create a new folder for the restore.  Any guidance you have would really be appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Otto

  • Mac os x connecting problems

how can i connect wirelessly a intel based mac os x to my WRT54GS - 7.0
that is working flawlessly on my vaio xp sp2.thanks a lot

O.K. This is the default configuration of the router.
Check the following: unplug the router from power for a moment. Use the Airport card (or you can certainly use another computer as well) and search your environment for other wireless networks. Do you find another "linksys" network there? That would help to know. Plug the router back in.
Next I would suggest you change the SSID of the router to something unique. Search for networks and connect to the new SSID. See if that works. If yes, remove the wireless network again from the configuration on the Mac.
Setup wireless security WPA2 Personal (or WPA2-PSK) on the router. Choose AES+TKIP and a good pass phrase. Save the settings.
Now let the airport search for networks again. Again connect to your new SSID. The Mac should automatically ask you for the passphrase. See if this works.
If something does not work post the exact error message please.
What Mac is it? What MacOS version?

  • HELP! Mac Air, Wifi, Connecting Problem

My MBA suddenly have some problem connecting my WiFi at home, while my PC and Cellphone all doing fine. The problem is whenever I tried to connect internet with Air, Something like:"Another device on the network is uding your computer's IP address, try connecting again later. If you continue to have problems, change the IP address of this computer or the IP address of the other device. Contact the network administratot if you need more information." will pop out.
But actually, I did not have the mentioned "other devices" using the same IP.
    Please help!

Try assigning a static ip address. Is your wireless internet password protected? If not someone else could be using it. this can cause the issue.
your ip range may be 192.168.1.100 to 192.168.1.110 this would give you 10 possible ip addresses, 10 devices. (Normal for home use).

  • Chronic Wifi Connectivity Problems

My late 2011 MBP has been having chronic wifi connectivity problems ever since I got it, although I have really only begun to see the full extent. I bought it in late April 2012, so I am still covered by my one year warranty.
    Problems are as follows:
Will not connect to certain areas. I am okay in my dorm, at my house, and several friend's houses, but it won't connect anywhere else on campus. (You can imagine that this is a problem.)
I am running bootcamp on it, and the Windows side has no issues with connectivity.
About every month, like clockwork, the wifi stops working altogether. It won't give me an IP address and the only solution is to clean reinstall OS. Which is getting very annoying.
    Additional Information:
Within the first 60 days of having my mac, I had connectivity problems at a friend's house. Still covered by Applecare, they fixed my problem by renewing the DHCP lease and some other things that I can't remember.
I took the MBP to a Genius Bar when the wifi completely went out and the only solution they had was to clean reinstall the OS. This involves completely wiping the harddrive and reinstalling, not reinstalling over top of what is already there.
As you can imagine, I am extremely frustrated having to reinstall and restore my machine. I am wondering if these problems are preventable, fixable, or if my computer has a manufacturing problem that can be fixed under my warranty.
    Thank you for your help!

    Hey RJS568999,
I found that if you can connect to your Wi-Fi router, but are having issues with webpages loading, sending or receiving email, etc., Apple recommends you use Wireless Diagnostics, included with OS X Mountain Lion v10.8.4 and later.
You can read more about it here:
