Mac to HD to Camera?

I have a new MacBook with no Firewire. If I buy one of those Hard Drives that comes with multiple connections, (one like this LaCie http://www.lacie.com/uses/products/product.htm?pid=11062).
Do you think Final Cut Pro will be able to capture if I connect this Hard Drive via USB to my MacBook and then connect the camera via Firewire to the Hard Drive?
For the one who answers: Have you tried this?
Thanks in advance.

USB (even2.0) can't be used for capturing video. You have to use firewire.

I bought a brand new Mac 27" desktop that came loaded with Adobe CS6. Everything worked like a charm until the hard drive, 1Tb, developed a bad sector and the Apple Store reinstalled a new one as I had extended warranty with them. They recycled the drive immediately (like a fool I didn't ask for it back to get the data off it.) But luckily I have all my data on CrashPlan. I downloaded it and it worked great except I downloaded it to the desktop and not the original location so it got squirrely. I also have an external 1.5Tb drive that I wanted to make bootable so I installed Mavericks 10.9.3 . I then went ahead and installed it on the newly installed drive too.
I think that because I have a new drive Adobe thinks I have a news computer. I bought the 27" Mac brand new from Ebay and it came loaded with software, including CS6. I have a serial number for CS6 but Adobe said it wasn't valid. (I have owned CS2, CS4 and now CS6 which came preloaded onto the Mac by the seller who told me that the software was registered to the Mac???
I am going to re-download the backup but this time to the original location (I still don't think it will work with Adobe. What can I do about this?

  • Getting my Mac/FCP to recognize camera

    Hello Everyone!
Just wondering if anyone can help me out on this one. I have a Panasonic PVGS400 digital camcorder. It's about three years old and it does have a Firewire connection. I'm ready to do some capturing and logging on my brand new Macbook. I'm getting the textbook "Preview Disabled" message. How do I get my Mac to recognize the camera in Final Cut Pro? There is a driver CD that came with the camera, but it's for Windows only. Any suggestions? Thanks a lot.
    Dan

    Dan:
Did you set an Easy Setup in accordance with your camera before trying to capture? Your camera is a DV one, and if it's NTSC you first need to set the Easy Setup DV NTSC.
Try closing the project you have now, select the Easy Setup, create a new project (that will take that setup config) and try capturing again.
    Hope that helps !

  • Does the Mac Mini have a camera?

Thinking about getting a Mac Mini because it is very affordable, and I hate my PC, does the Mac Mini have a camera for facetime?

I think cameras are in the displays.  The Mini is the "scrunched" version of the tower.

  • OS X 10.4 on a 2008 mac book pro that came with 10.5.5

Beginning to think about moving from my eMac.
Now that Marathon has moved along,
the only thing I want to bring along is Photoshop 7.0
which runs on OS X 10.4.11 at the latest.
Currently, I have a firewire hard disk with a 10.4.11 and 10.5.8 volume.
I boot into 10.4.11 when I want to use Photoshop.
I might inherit a 2008 mac book pro that came with 10.5.5 installed.
Any way to get it to boot into a 10.4.11 volume?
    never hurts to ask
If so, which Tiger disk do I need to scrounge up?
My Tiger disk is PPC only.

Previous version of OSX cannot be installed.

  • MAC address and the CAM entries on the Layer 3 FWSM(Transparent mode)

    Hi,
With refrence of Cisco Secure Firewall Services Module (FWSM) of Cisco Press book it's mentioned that
"While configuring the transparent mode in FWSM, it is important to specify the MAC address and the CAM entries on the Layer 3 next hop device of FWSM."
This part of configuration is not very much clear to me please let me know the logic of this things
    The following are two examples:
Layer 3 Device A (PFC) at the Outside Security Domain
! IP address of the next hop for the outside security domain
    interface Vlan20
    mac-address 0000.0000.0001
    ip address 10.10.1.1 255.255.255.0
! Specify the IP address and MAC address at the first hop layer 3 interface
! of the inside security domain
    arp 10.10.1.21 0000.0000.0001 ARPA
Layer 3 Device B at the Inside Security Domain
! IP address of the next hop for the inside security domain
    interface Vlan21
    mac-address 0000.0000.0021
    ip address 10.10.1.21 255.255.255.0
! Specify the IP address and MAC address defined at the first hop interface
! of the outside security domain
    arp 10.10.1.21 0000.0000.0002 ARPA

Check the serial # reported by Sys Info against the serial # printed on the bottom of the case. I bet they are not the same. The service center did not change the serial # on that new Logic board to match the REAL serial number of your Mac.
So when you try to go to the MAS it looks like a completely different Mac which is not registered under your Apple ID.
If the above is true, the serials being different, then you need to take it back and have that changed to your REAL serial number.

  • Mac won't detect camera.

I accidently asked about this in the iphone section. My bad. I skimmed through the site and decided to ask here. I'm new to the site so bare with me. I'm sure there are dozens of threads on this site asking things like this but I'll ask anyways. My Mac will not detect my Sony Handycam. It is a Sony DCR-HC28. I have it connected to a Firewire USB chord into my Mac. My Mac is version 10.5.8. I opened iMovie and when I click the camera icon the only option it gives me is for the built in iSight. No option for the camera. I googled and tried a few suggestions but to no luck. I checked System Profiler and found nothing. Charged my camera and rebooted my computer. Got nothing. Unplugged and replugged. Nothing. Any tips??? Is it possible because my Firewire connects through the USB port rather than the Firewire port that it won't work??? I could sure use the help.

Here's a pic of the kinda chord I'm using. It's a Firewire that plugs into USB. If you look closely you can see the USB symbol on the plug.

  • IChat on older Mac without built in camera

    Hey now -
My Mom has an older iMac (G5 White) that does not have the built in camera. She recently saw my niece and I using iChat and thought it was pretty cool. I think she would like to be able to talk to the Grandkids via iChat. I see that Amazon has some USB add on cameras in the $25 - $100 range. I'm thinking about buying her a camera for her Mac so she can start using iChat. I have two questions I'm hoping someone can help me with -
    1) Can someone recommend good USB add on camera for use with a G5 iMac and iChat - in the $25 to $75 range? Is that $25 Macally on Amazon any good?
    2) I know the G5 Mac is running Mac OS X Leopard - would iChat be installed on her computer even if there wasn't a camera attached to the machine at the time of the OS upgrade? If not, can it be loaded from the Leopard disc?
Your help / advice will be greatly appreciated!

    Hi,
Cameras fall into 5 main categories now.
    1) Firewire like the External iSight (not available for Apple and expensive on Amazon/ebay)
    2) USB 1.1 cameras that do not have Mac Drivers
    3) USB 1.1 Cameras that do have Mac Drivers
    4) USB 2.0 cameras that are Vista Certified (Or USB Video Class (UVC) Compliant)
That do not need drivers with OS 1.4.9 and above (They will not work in USB 1.1 as they have no Mac Drivers)
    5) USB 2.0 cameras that are not UVC compliant.
Re 1) there are not many on the market now.
re 3) Most of these also need the iUSBCam Utility to change the Video feed from the camera into something iChat can work with. However on this site there is a camera Guide on the right hand side of that link that list cameras that will work and links to Drivers that will work with the Mac OS

  • Transferring photos from my Mac back to my camera - can't do it, can you?

I use a canon d30 and an iMac and can't figure out how to transfer images from iphoto back to the camera. Can anyone else do it?
    imac   Mac OS X (10.4)

As Canon cameras don't mount on the desktop, the only way to to do it is to use a card reader, which will. You can then drag and drop your pics onto the card. Be sure to follow the folde structure of the card if you want to see the pics on the camera.

  • Mac freezes when connecting camera

My camera >>Nikon Coolpix 775<< is listed as compatable to Tiger but I am not having any luck with it! Everything was working swimmingly until I upgraded all my software (Tiger, iPhoto, etc) last week. Now when I connect my Nikon everything freezes up--I have to do the dreaded hard reboot. I've tried creating a new library, checked my camera's card, and looked throughout the discussion boards but am stuck. It's miserable...
Would incompatability to my camera give me such a problem? What could be causing this?
    Someone please help!

    Hi Mate,
dont know if you have got your ipod working yet, but I have just managed to get mine back up and running at last!! I reinstalled my old ipod installer disc, erased the memory, and connected to my mac, it would get up to about 78 tracks then freeze again, really ****** me off, but then I charged my ipod fully and tried again, straight away all my tracks were loaded, I am so bloody pleased, took a gamble wiping memory though but had to try something!!
    Hope this helps you,
    cheers
    Swordie.
