Mac to PC local connection
I want to connect my mac(10.9.4) and pc(win 8.1) using a personal hotspot type of a network ...
I don't want to share the internet, i just want to create a local network to share data and media...
I tried to use "create network" on the mac, but the network that is created is not detected by the windows pc ...
Is there a way to detect the network, or any other applicaftion on mac that could perform this task ... please help ..!!!

It sounds like you are having issues with your PC being unable to join a network created by your Mac. The following article gives instructions on how to set up the wireless network from your Mac -

If that does not work, you may want to connect the computers using an Ethernet cable instead of wirelessly.
Once either of these is working you can set up file sharing to work using the following article -

Why is my Mac initiating hidden VPN connections?
In looking through my system.log, I've discovered that my Mac is initiating VPN connections in the background but I don't know why, nor do I know what it's connecting to. It's apparently been going on for at least several weeks, if not longer. Here's some relevant entires from the log:

There's lots more, but it all looks pretty much like the above. Would the OS, or some standard system service or application, be doing this? During the time period covered by the above log entries, as far as I can remember, the only apps I was running were Mail, Safari, and 1Password. I do have some VPN connections defined in the Network panel of System Preferences, but I was NOT using them at the time. Is this normal, or do I have a problem?

Im fairly new to flash and am building a web page in
Dreamweaver using two frames that contains flash movies on several
pages. I have a movie on one page that contains buttons that link
to another page, my problem is that I have another Flash movie in
the new web page that needs to start at different frames depending
on which button is pressed in the links section from the previous
page.
I have already set up a local connection from the links
section to update the movie in the header (Top Frame) and this
works fine, is the Local Connection method the way to go to achieve
this or is there another way that im missing?

Music page) and the 'Choose Retailer' movie on the 'Buy Our Music'
page...one more thing, i have also set up a local connection
between the 'Choose Retailer' buttons and the 'Retailer Display
Area' above the table.I just set up 7 web pages with different swf files that start
at different points. It leads to more files but it works, Hope this

Ive got a another problem now. My local connections seem to
not work properly in IE on the PC! They work fine with Safari (Mac)
and Firefox (PC) however which is the strange thing! Anybody heard
of this before? Could it be something to do with the updates that
have been made to IE 6 and would there be a quick fix for this?

I have an apple iphone 4 that I want to download audio books from my library onto. I cannot figure out how to do that. The iphone does not show up on my mac laptop as a connected device. Does this kind of download have to run through itunes? Thanks
Yes it is done through iTunes. The iPhone will never show up in Finder as a device. I have a black Macbook 4,1 running 10.7.5, an iMac 11,3 running 10.7.5 and a new Macbook Air 6,2 running 10.9.5., I have file sharing turned on on all machines. All machines are visible and I can connect all machines except for the Macbook Air. The Macbook air can see the other 2 Macs but does not connect to either of them or even give me the option to connect as a guest or a registered user. The other Macs connect to the Macbook Air but it will not connect with them. Any help is appreciated. Thank You.

My early 2009 Mac Pro does not connect via bluetooth to my sound bar or bluetooth mini speakers. Both my wireless keyboard and mouse have no problems connecting. What do I need to do to connect to external bluetooth devices?
I would always have a wired keyboard and mouse on hand (need not be expensive ... any cheap wired devices will work). "Emergency recovery" procedures can activate features in random order, so the opportunity to select a recovery partition may pass before the wireless devices are recognized.
That will let you select the "turn on Bluetooth" icon. -
Mac/iPhoto trying to connect to an old server that no longer exists
I have a MacBook Air, running OS X 10.7.5
Because I was running out of space and set up an AFP connection to a NAS. The NAS is now dead and gone, but in certain situations the Mac tries to connect
1. In MS Office, if I have the ClipArt/Shape/etc browser open, it tries to connect to the server - is a PITA but I can live with it
2. In iPhoto, it constantly tries to connect, particularly if I am using the slideshow feature - Has rendered iPhoto unusable.
The iPhoto situation is that I perhaps foolishly connected to a photo folder on the NAS share and iPhoto imported a bunch of pictures from there. Now that the server is offline, it constantly looks for them and tells me that it can't connect.
I can still see the thumbnails but obviously it cannot access the full files. I don't know exactly which folders are NAS pictures and which are not
I've found some similar topics but not a satisfactory answer.
How can I stop this message - how can I stop the Mac from trying to connect to a server that is never going to be there?The location should be /Users/your name/Pictures. You can change this by holding down the option or alt key (the ones immediately to the left or right of the cmd keys either side of the spacebar) whilst clicking on the iPhoto application icon in your dock and making an informed choice from the options you see.
By default iPhoto creates an iPhoto Library (the folder where all your data in iPhoto is stored) in the /Users/your name/Pictures folder. It seems that in the past you must have selected an externally or network attached volume named TOSHIBA as the location for the iPhoto Library instead using the instructions I've given you. All you have to do is revert it back to the location you now want. -
EPM Error while creating a local connection
Hello everyone,
I am a Dashboards designer and am new to BPC 10 MS. I am working on a dashboard that connects to BPC 10 MS to retrieve data via the EPM Connector. For this a 'Local' connection type must be used when creating the report in the Excel sheet using the EPM Add-In. I tried to create one but am facing a curious error which does not seem to be a known issue. I have installed the ODBO Client and therefore can create a local connection of type 'SAP BusinessObjects Planning and Consolidation'. Once I select this provider I entered my application server name and chose Windows Authentication for BPC MS as I have the service account credentials. I encountered an EPM - General error with the following text: Error while communicating with the server. Details: Framework message: Authorization failed. This error shows even if I'm using Excel and not Dashboards. If I use a different connector, I am able to access all the BPC data just fine. However, with local type (which is needed for the dashboard connector) it just doesn't work. I tried reinstalling the EPM Add-In as well as the EPM Connector without any change to the error.
I am using Win7 32-bit, Excel 2010 32-bit, ODBO Client SP12, EPM Excel Client SP16 Patch 1, BPC 10 MS server SP08, Dashboards 4.1 SP1.
Has anyone come across this before? Any help would be great as I'm very much stuck at this point.Hi Deena,

HT204017 MAC Mail no longer connects to my mail server after 11/30 yosemitee update.
Since I update to yosemitee on 11/30 MAC mail will not connect to my mail server. I have deleted and re added the account, tried every setting that my provider has for incoming and outgoing but the problem seems to be with the apple update. any help??

I have a Mac on my home network and also a Systemline music server on same network. My PC was able to find the server but my MAC cannot. I can ping the server from the mac, but cannot actually connect . Also can't add the mac as a location from server, despite following the Systemline instructions that impy this can be done.

Mac keeps trying to connect to a server when opening excel
i worked for a week at a production house and they had me log into their server to access files that we all used. obviously i forgot to eject their server before i left and instead just closed my computer and left. now, since Lion makes all documents that were left open restore automatically my mac keeps trying to load a spreadsheet that i was reading off the server but obviously i'm not connected to said server anymore. and i won't ever again.
how can i stop my mac from trying to connect to this server? also, is there a way to stop Lion from auto restoring?
thanks, all!Well, I was hoping that if you remove all traces of recently opened documents to resume and you disable the resume, then Excel would not try any longer to connect to the server.
One more question: is Excel trying to reach the server when you start your system or when you launch Excel?
If it happens at start up, then have a look, if Excel has been added to the start up items (System preferences -> accounts -> your account -> start up items) and remove it.
Quit Excel (with Option + Command + Q) if it is open and remove the loginwindow preferences: Navigate to Library > Preferences > ByHost > com.apple.loginwindow.[xxxxxxxxx].plist
The [xxxxxxxx] represent some interminable string of numbers and letters.
If it happens at launch time, move the Excel preference file to the Desktop before you launch Excel. The file is locate here:
/Users/your user name/Library/Preferences/com.microsoft.Excel.plist.
If you keep your Library hidden, as it is by default, go to the System preference folder from the Finder menu: Finder -> Go -> Go to Folder (Or shift-cmd-G) and enter
"/Users/your user name/Library/Preferences"

I'm trying to clone a internal hard drive from another mac using a usb connection.
I'm trying to clone a internal hard drive from another mac using a usb connection to an external drive so that I don't lose the file before reinstalling the software but I keep on getting a message:
"Restore Failure
Source volume is read-write and cannot be unmounted, so it can't be block copied."
Any advice on how to make a copy of this internal drive?

....also the internal hard drive i am trying to copying run on a mac os x 10.5 and i'm reinstalling the software because the computer is not starting and only shows a grey folder with a question marks inside.I've had my Maxtor external OneTouch 250GB for about 18 months now and it hasn't skipped a beat. I have hear of people having their Maxtor drive just up and die but you will probably find that goes for all manufacturers.
By the way, Maxtor is, amongst others, an OEM supplier to Apple. -

Looks like the JNDI that you created for the ConnectionFactory is not reflected in the server.
Login to WLS Console> Summary of Servers > server_name > View JNDI Tree
Browse to the JNDI tree and see if your JNDI is visible there. If it is not then, please restart the server and recheck.
Once you are able to find it in the JNDI tree, then execute the customization file.
If you have modified the existing JNDI properties (that have a small exclamatory symbol) then any changes to those are not reflected till all the servers in the cluster are restarted.
If it still does not work, then recreate a new Connection with a different name and then retry. It should work then.
